This game was so good i played it through at least 8 times. The OST / music, the acting, the characters, the story, the gameplay and the chemistry between Joel and Ellie made this game a true gem❤
I would have done the same exact thing if this happened to my daughter or sister. I would kill for her and lie for her and if she finds out about that lie. I would gladly take her rage. A million lives would not replace the person I love, if that makes me a selfish so be it..
Realistically, Joel did the right thing. You can't really cure people of something like cordyceps. You can give them supportive care or mercy kill them, but that's about it.

My favorite ending to a game still. interpretation But what this really is is a perfect character driven moment; Ellie wants Joel to be honest with her so she demands him to swear he wasn't lying. Joel wants Ellie to be happy because he loves her like a daughter and would clearly do anything for her at this point, so he lies to her to placate her emotions, to keep her with him. And here I think Ellie sees through his lie, and even sees his intent behind it. Realizing why Joel lies to her, Ellie is content because she finally has the thing she's wanted this whole time; a parent who cares about her in this cruel world.
I played this game on easy purely for the story and honestly- I finished the game in a little over 2 days and it literally just left me wanting MORE! however..TLOU part 2 isn’t quite the same, idk if anyone gets what I mean, not that the game was bad imo but it just wasn’t like a WOW like this game was and how it finished. I’ll always love it though.
TLOU 2 definitely is not the same in the good ways, truly sad, they preferred to told a message rather than the story they had crafted with joel and ellie, which was the main reason it was so well received and successful

I love how the show told artistic licence where to go regarding the ending, and stuck with this. I read books which made me cry, watched films which made me cry. But never played a game which made me cry, until I encountered Joel and Ellie.
All the debate about selfishness, whether what he did was right or wrong, whether it was justified, whether or not the cure or vaccine was possible: That's the whole entire point. You have to question it. You have to think what you would do in that situation. He made a human choice. A choice that's cold, maybe even heartless in a way. But it's one that makes sense, one that even if you don't like it, you can see how he got there. This ending makes us think what's moral, what's just, and what's worth it. That's the real point of a story: a theme. We get close to characters because we empathize with them and eventually associate their story with ours. All this debate and all the points made are important, and correct at least to a degree. We analyze all this to make a conclusion on what we feel the right decision was. And from that, we learn. That's a theme. And let me tell you, even if the theme is technically open ended and up for interpretation (which are arguably the best themes in media) instead of a simple phrase... No matter your conclusion, it's one hell of a fucking theme. And I for one am eating it up like nothing else.
Man… Part 1 and Part 2 are one of the greatest games I’ve ever played. I can understand ppl hating on the sequel but you can’t deny the experience. Makes me happy this saga is one of the most awarded pf all time.

The second is one of the worst story lines to ever be written. The way that game was completed and the way naughty dog carried on like spoiled kids when people were not happy is proof those people deserve no credit for the second.

They just used this song in episode 6 for a different scene, so I'm a little nervous they won't use it again. They also used the giraffe music in episode 3, so we'll see about that scene too. I feel like a lot of the emotional scenes in the game would not have been as emotional if not for the perfectly fitting soundtrack. So far a lot of scenes in the show have been held back because the music isn't the same (like Sarah's death or Joel and Ellie's argument in the bedroom).
The show is okay. A lot of stalling action and rushing it through that kinda bother me. I didn’t mind that they change a bit stuff but at least they got the ending.
today i finished my first playthrough with left behind right after it and damn, this game is on a whole another level.. i played the original ps3 version for the first time ever in january. at first i wasn't quite sold yet but i was still hooked, now with this playthrough i noticed smaller details, like the giraffe scene i had somehow missed, and i get it now. the ending is so powerful and meaningful, it has so much to it and now it has me tearing up..

I always think that Ellie knows the lie since the car ride back to Jackson, because she knows Marlene wouldn’t have made such a big deal if the Fireflies have other immunes. The way I interpret it, the ending is really sad: - This time, Joel can’t say he kills people for surviving anymore. He consciously chose to massacre people. - Ellie thought her purpose in life is meaningless now. The whole game, Ellie thought she is special, made to cure humanity, which is why people died but she lives. But then when Joel said none of that matters anymore. - Joel lied to Ellie, officially making their further relationship being built on a lie.
Let’s not pretend the people he massacred were innocent. The Fireflies were essentially a terrorist group. (Also, you can go through the whole hospital, killing only the one surgeon who threatens you with a scalpel and Marlene) I’d argue he is still killing for survival, the survival of Ellie. He has a valid reason to commit his acts. They wouldn’t have ever been able to make a fungal vaccine with those limited resources in a decrepit hospital running off of generators. Currently, there’s still never been a vaccine developed for fungal infections and thats irl with our countless resources around the globe. The only realistic way for her mutation to help others is by her having children in the future and them receiving her immunity gene. Eventually, many many years from then repopulating the world with people who’ve developed immunity. The sad reality is they knew she’d die, yet she was never informed of that. They were more than willing to kill an innocent child for nothing. Joel simply did what any “father” would do in that situation.

I wholeheartedly agree with what you said, and the thing with Ellie not being informed that she will be killed is also a valid reason for rescuing her because she was never given a choice in the first place.

I was so taken aback by this ending. I wasn't expecting it. And then the morality of it came in. Like, I know that her life could have saved the lives of many others so taking that way is definitely selfish. Especially considering that Ellie seemed to be okay with the idea of being a martyr. But at the same time, Ellie and I went through a lot. How can anyone just ask you to give up someone you care about to be slaughtered? Especially if they don't know if their method will actually work? What if the brain surgery didn't work? Then she would have died in vain. That doesn't sit well with me either. So overall, I'm not sure how I'm suppose to feel, but I know I wanted Ellie to live. I just hate that Joel lied to her, because I felt like I lied to her by association and that makes me feel really bad.

The show is okay. A lot of stalling action and rushing it through that kinda bother me. I didn’t mind that they change a bit stuff but at least they got the ending.
Honestly same the ending did it for me especially how they kept this part the same especially with the song and when it starts up
today i finished my first playthrough with left behind right after it and damn, this game is on a whole another level.. i played the original ps3 version for the first time ever in january. at first i wasn't quite sold yet but i was still hooked, now with this playthrough i noticed smaller details, like the giraffe scene i had somehow missed, and i get it now. the ending is so powerful and meaningful, it has so much to it and now it has me tearing up..
easily one of my favorite video games ever made... i wasnt into these types of games and i experienced it on my ps5 for the firs time... thanks naughtydog
I always think that Ellie knows the lie since the car ride back to Jackson, because she knows Marlene wouldn’t have made such a big deal if the Fireflies have other immunes.
The way I interpret it, the ending is really sad:
- This time, Joel can’t say he kills people for surviving anymore. He consciously chose to massacre people.
- Ellie thought her purpose in life is meaningless now. The whole game, Ellie thought she is special, made to cure humanity, which is why people died but she lives. But then when Joel said none of that matters anymore.
- Joel lied to Ellie, officially making their further relationship being built on a lie.
Let’s not pretend the people he massacred were innocent. The Fireflies were essentially a terrorist group. (Also, you can go through the whole hospital, killing only the one surgeon who threatens you with a scalpel and Marlene) I’d argue he is still killing for survival, the survival of Ellie. He has a valid reason to commit his acts. They wouldn’t have ever been able to make a fungal vaccine with those limited resources in a decrepit hospital running off of generators. Currently, there’s still never been a vaccine developed for fungal infections and thats irl with our countless resources around the globe. The only realistic way for her mutation to help others is by her having children in the future and them receiving her immunity gene. Eventually, many many years from then repopulating the world with people who’ve developed immunity. The sad reality is they knew she’d die, yet she was never informed of that. They were more than willing to kill an innocent child for nothing. Joel simply did what any “father” would do in that situation.
@@smileyheadshot that is true as well. That is what made TLOU so great in my opinion: different people have different interpretations. I wholeheartedly agree with what you said, and the thing with Ellie not being informed that she will be killed is also a valid reason for rescuing her because she was never given a choice in the first place.

Somehow I think these animations are better than the remaster's.
I was so taken aback by this ending. I wasn't expecting it. And then the morality of it came in. Like, I know that her life could have saved the lives of many others so taking that way is definitely selfish. Especially considering that Ellie seemed to be okay with the idea of being a martyr. But at the same time, Ellie and I went through a lot. How can anyone just ask you to give up someone you care about to be slaughtered? Especially if they don't know if their method will actually work? What if the brain surgery didn't work? Then she would have died in vain. That doesn't sit well with me either. So overall, I'm not sure how I'm suppose to feel, but I know I wanted Ellie to live. I just hate that Joel lied to her, because I felt like I lied to her by association and that makes me feel really bad.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, she isn't real anyways.
