  • Greetings, my dear RUclips viewers! So, get this...my Samsung laptop LCD FAILED after just 2.6 years of ownership, and now I've got an entire tech review to explain what happened.
As a world traveler, I need technology that I can count on. Several years ago, I thought my Samsung Notebook 7 Spin laptop would carry me through at least half a decade with proper care and basic maintenance. After all, Samsung is a reputable global brand in all things tech; therefore, I had no doubts that I had indeed invested in a "premium," high quality, long-lasting product.
Unfortunately, I discovered all too soon the major mistake I had made in my laptop selection process. Several weeks ago, my Samsung Notebook's LCD monitor suddenly had a panic attack and stopped working altogether. Since then, I've had quite a negative experience with Samsung Customer Support, and I've made a few discoveries while attempting the fix the problem here in the Philippines.
To those of you looking for your next laptop, I'd strongly advise you to think twice before getting a Samsung (if Samsung laptops are still offered in your country). Samsung, I think it's about time to let go of your laptop business altogether rather than continue to hold onto a small portion of the market as an afterthought.

I can vouch for Lenovo also as I had a Lenovo Laptop for 9.5 years and it served me really well.

Lenovo and a MAC is comparable in prices. An after market screen will probably last you another year or two. I think the lifecycle for most laptops is around 3 to 4 years.

Looks like a backlight failure, either of the component itself, or the associated circuitry. Your LCD display may be working perfectly, but there's nothing to illuminate it.
I have a Notebook 7 Spin that I got a decent deal on at Best Buy around Christmas of '16. The hard drive is now on its way out and I was about to pull the trigger on an M.2 SSD drive to replace it. Then I found the horror stories online about how many people have experienced failures after installing an M.2 drive in these models. You have to disconnect one end of a ribbon cable to access the M.2 slot on the motherboard to do the installation, and apparently this simple procedure (or just plugging in the new drive) can result in anything from the Wi-fi and Bluetooth becoming non-functional, to full motherboard failure and a bricked computer.
I think I'll stick to the standard SATA SSD drive replacement and leave the M.2 slot alone, thank you very much, and then stay away from Samsung when I consider a new laptop.

Thanks for this comment and specific information, PereMarquette!! 😊 I've been so frustrated (as you can tell from the video) with my Samsung, and I'm noticing more glitches here and there as months go by. What poor design and build quality!! I do hope Samsung gets this feedback from many customers regarding their terrible laptops from several years ago. I also hope you're able to maintain your laptop before it goes belly up. 😑

@@natehovee Yeah, it's sad that Samsung is apparently just cynically cranking out sub-par laptops while investing all of their time & effort in smart phones and TV's. If their heart isn't in it, they should discontinue the line.
It's good to see that HP is at the top of the heap now, though. For years they were a bottom-tier bargain brand, so it's great that they've turned that around.

There is no appreciable performance difference with SATA and NVMe drives with everyday use, even when creating 8K content! Linus Tech Tips made a point of this with his recent NVMe and SATA SSD blind test experiment. For a 4 year old laptop, the simple solution is to replace it with a new device. Like mobile phones, laptops just do not last forever.

@@user-kc1tf7zm3b Ohhhhhhhh, hello once again!! You just can't stop writing all over the comments section of my video. You really did enjoy my video this much?! Thank you!! I knew you actually enjoyed it deep down and just couldn't bring yourself to express how much it inspired you. I'm honored that you've traded Linus Tech Tips for me and my reviews!

@@user-kc1tf7zm3b What's wrong?? I thought you would have had a remark or two by now that I'm sure you would assume to be wity and intellectually brilliant. Now it seems you avoid starting your RUclips sequel in the comments?? How surprising! I'm afraid all of your attention on me and my work-of-art review has distracted you from, well, everything else that matters. Do return soon with your ridiculous banter.. I was beginning to enjoy your self-absorbed monologues and flailing attempts to discredit my review (when I actually know you probably watched it 20 times.. thanks for the views!).

Maybe it's an issue with Samsung. I had a Samsung laptop too back in 2011 and in 2013 it just gave up on me. I had a lot of files in there especially memories you have gathered along the way in so many years. Funnily enough my new laptop is a LENOVO too. What a coincidence. 🤘🏻😉

We have a very similar experience with our 55 inch LCD Samsung TV. After only 2 years, when we were watching one morning. The screen went completely Black. Just like that ... It was Gone.... Dead. It's was our first time to experience a thing like that. We still have a 10 year old Sony (smaller) TV that is still working up to this day. We contacted the Samsung tech guys to have a P650 home check up (with out a guarantee that they will fix it). After a few minutes of looking at it. They say that the LCD screen is already damage and beyond repair. They say that they could replace the whole 55 inch screen for P28,000 (which is almost a price of a brand new TV these days.) . We just decided to buy a new TV ( instead of their offer). We will NEVER buy a Samsung TV again.

i think you could repair the screen in pc shops for 1.5k pesos. also you could transfer the samsung hard drive to the lenovo. in my area, the total cost would be around 2k.

well, when in Philippines you will actually need a UPS got good surge protection. This is not because of Samsung being a bad product its just because of the electric surges that gets the thing fried. one thing to always keep in mind.

My Macbook Pro 2018 (yes, the one with the unending number of keyboard issues) gave up on me after just 2 years. They asked me for £500 just to repair the stupid keyboard. I argued that the touchbar stopped working 4 months after I bought the laptop in the Apple store and the keyboard is their fault from the beginning. They agreed to fix it. One week later, a call from Apple: we can not actually repair it as we found water damage inside!! Whaaaat??????????
I will never touch Apple products again! Go to Samsung store in London. You are treated like they wanna do business with you. Go to the Apple store: a bunch of arrogant youngsters who want to upsell you on every expensive shit they make. And dongles, dongles, dongles forever...
I was looking for a Dell or the new Samsung laptop series, but you kind of helped me decide. Dell seems to have a long reputation of building solid products.

Asus is worth it, especially its Ryzen. Great for office and school work-- and gaming. Companies use Nec. Dell and HP are also more durable but cost more. Me, I use a 10yr old (discontinued) TG Averatec.

That's really good to hear, and I hope you'll get a few more years out of it. I'm still baffled why my screen doesn't work. I'm actually using an HDMI cable now so that I can view everything on another monitor. -_-
