How did I just discover this guy??? Thank you for the in depth info. You just educated a LOT! Philippines is amazing and very misunderstood. The people, the culture, the cuisine, the hospitality are all world class. When I go to the Philippines 🇵🇭, I feel like I belong. Been there twice and plans are in place to retire there. It truly is a magical place. Shout out to Cebu, my second home. ❤
Great vlog! I lived in The Philippines a few years ago for two years on an ExPat assignment and loved it! But I was in Makati (metro Manila) and it was much more expensive. However, my company paid my condo rent, utilities, etc. The people are fantastic and the natural beauty of The Philippines is incredible. I really do miss it! The cost of living is incredibly cheap, but you need to add to this what you are making per month as well. Are you making a "US" salary or are you making a "local" salary? There is a big difference and the cost of living is subjective to what you're making. Thanks again for a great video and making me feel homesick for all my Pinoy friends! Salamat Po!
I used to work in Makati for a couple of years. Prices can be a little more expensive but not by much - unless you got charge at foreigners price. Food should cost about the same with other cities depending on the type of restaurant. Services in small shops can be more expensive especially to foreigners. Buy and shop in bigger malls with standardized prices. Travelling, touring, and taxicabs can be more expensive to foreigners although it should not be.
let me just add. The purified water that costs $0.50 or php24 is from small water refilling stations that almost never replaced their filters. I know because I have friends who operate refilling stations and replacing filters at the recommended time just isn't profitable, It just isn't feasible no matter how much volume of business you have because more sales or water sold means m=a more frequent replacement of the filters. A 5 gallon purified water(as seen in the video) in major shopping centers and supermarkets, like those bottled by coca-cola, should cost $4-6 or roughly 10X more. So in this case, the comparison is inaccurate because bottled water in the US or Europe may be better "filtered". Not that we need water so purified - but it affects the cost

Every country has a place, communities, that looks great when there's not much people around. What can you expect? More people, more chaos, and traffic and volume of comes with it. I haven't been to the US but I certainly know that the landscape, city-wise, it's also not perfect. Nait, chose to live in this place because currently it serves his purpose and has found a liking. What a fascinating video./ I never knew Angeles City is that beautiful and clean. (Honestly, I have never been. I was stationed at Clark USAF Base in Angeles City in the mid 1970s. Unlike many of the other single female servicemen I chose to live off base in a small gated community. I loved it. I’m so impressed to see the vitality and growth of the city. There were no malls or McDonalds, then. But I was perfectly happy totally immersed in the local community. I remember thinking at the time that the people that avoided the city outside the base were really missing a great experience.
I agree. It is wonderful to see the people more free and with actual infrastructure. I have been infrequently in the PI from 1968-1985 with the USN. Lovely and happy people. Even back then, they were happy when they did not have much at all. Good o see the Government is actually doing things for the people.
Just came across this channel and really enjoyed this. My wife and I took possession of our new studio style condo in the city of San Fernando, Pampanga near the beginning of January. We stayed almost 2 months before having to head back to Vancouver to get rid of as much as possible so we can get back to San Fernando this autumn for good. I love the city and the view from the 28th floor viewing deck of our building as the sun's going down.

Foodpanda operates also in Laos, Thailand and Cambodia and many other places. I was only in Manila before for a flight connection. I haven’t lived in the Philippines. But I have lived in Thailand and Cambodia. One thing that might be a good hint for some people, is…if you want to save a lot of money, and if you are willing to suffer a bit for two to three weeks to do it, and to get comfortably used to the tropical head and humidity, is to NEVER use air conditioning. Use fan, and cross circulation only. Dress in light summer weight material fabrics, one size too large, for air circulation between body and fabric. I like Columbia men’s button shirts with long sleeves that I can roll up, or have down if I wish. I make sure the fabric is not the winter weight fabric. Same with pants. And I go barefoot in proper sandals with heal straps and arch support. Eat lighter, smaller meals. Mostly fresh fruit and vegetables and only small amounts of chicken or fish. Avoid heavy fatty meals. Always carry a bottle of water. I was shocked at how little I could live for in Chiang Mai, Thailand, and even Bangkok. You have to shop around to find good deals… (doesn’t take long), and in Thailand and Cambodia, usually you can haggle a bit and make a deal. (But not in regular stores with fixed prices) Learn the basics of the language. It makes it so much easier to communicate, although we are fortunate that if there is a universal language..it is gestures, and smiles and being friendly and respectful. Basic English is understood by most people working in larger establishments. It seems to me that Cambodia is cheaper than Philippines and Thailand. I’m not familiar with Vietnam or Laos or Myanmar it other areas….yet. There are expats living in Cambodia on $600 per month, and maybe even less. (I prefer a budget of about $900 - $1000 per month) I’ll be returning to Cambodia, to live there permanently. With visits to surrounding countries. I now have friends in Cambodia. And I know a few people on a friendly basis in Thailand. I’m 71 now, Canadian of north west European ancestry. It takes me two to three weeks to acclimate to tropical climate. Study “Acclimatization”. I end up so used to the heat that I never give it thought, and at that point I actually find airconditioning to be very, very uncomfortable when exposed to it. But when you return to your much cooler home country, your body quickly loses that Acclimatization. I save big on electric bills, and get quite adapted to the heat in the tropics. Just takes two to three weeks to adapt. It’s been about 20 years now since I used airconditioning. Airconditioning is the biggest mistake. Use it…..and you will NEVER used to the heat, and you will suffer every time you step outside. Plus you will have the extra cost to pay. Thank you very much for the videos. Have safe flights and happy travels. ✈️🛫🙏🏼🌴🌴🌴☸️🙂

And minimum wage in California is going up to $20.00 per hour in April 2024. That's actually not good news, just wait and see how expensive everything gets when that happens. I also live in California and it is absolutely outrageously expensive. Many people I know have left or are leaving.
You should not feel uneasy shopping in the open market. I lived in the Philippines for six-and-a-half years. I did all my shopping in the open market. This includes vegetables and meat (usually fish), and it was very good and safe. For Filipinos this made me more like them. I also did any outside eating in Carenderias. When I was in Manila I did eat a few times in the basement carenderias at the shopping centers. Usually I would eat at push carts along the streets. I also drank the local water. I had no problems. Give it a try. One last thing, I only used public transportation, even traveling between islands on boats. Obviously, I did not have much money.
Hey Rodney! I couldn't agree with you more, and I did used to go to wet markets often in the area... Great deals for fresh food! I only meant that I'm uneasy about going now because of COVID and the lack of proper sanitation in and around some wet markets. Local transportation is affordable, fun, and certainly a memorable experience! I'd love to do island hopping that way! Thanks for the post. ☺️
Yup. Tap water in the city is very safe. I've drunk it all my life. All these mineral water delivery places are a scam. I live in the Middle East now where most of the water is filtered sea water and it is not only iffy to drink but... I don't know it feels so weird to bathe with. My skin feels so dry and itchy. Tap water in the Philippines is so sweet in comparison. Not only Filipinos but other nationals have suffered from skin irritation and even hair fall problems from the tap water in the Middle East. Even the locals buy mineral water.
@@gokouson180 Its not actually a scam though, mineral water or sort of "drinkable" water has better benefits in consumption purpose than usual tap water. Drinking tap water wouldnt kill you directly ofcourse, but it is very vulnerable to dirts, pathogens, chemical residue than refiltered "drinkable" water. Its espescially for certain countries with specific issues; like when Australia had gas leaks in their water system that makes their tap water dangerous for a certain period of time.
Why would you even order mineral water?... you're supposed to order Purified water(just like the P25 container he showed in the video). Anyways, I'm pretty sure only places with upgraded Maynilad water pipes have safe-to-drink tap water. I've recently been to Laguna, Batangas and Cavite... and guess what? all their tap water still has some dirt in it -- you can literally see black/brown stuff floating up when you boil the water.
My husband and I lived in the PI. From 1966 to 1969. A long time ago. He was aboard a diesel submarine (Tunny) homeported in Subic Bay. My baby daughter and I flew into Clark airforce base, outside Angeles City during the summer of 66. Clark was closed down shortly after I left, 3 years later, after the volcano erupted, burying the base in about 10 inches of ash. We enjoyed our stay in subic. It is a beautiful country. We didn't get off base too often. It was the hight of Vietnam . The Sub was out most of the time. Its number was the USS TUNNY APSS 282. We said it stood for always patrol on Saturday and Sunday. Too true. I enjoyed watching your video. It looks s lot different from when we were there. Thank you.

Hey former peace corps volunteer here....I lived in the philippines for 3 years in central luzon (santiago, isabela) as an English teacher. I highly recommend traveling to Sagada and just chilling out in the cordillera mountains for a few months! I also recommend checking out Baguio for a permanent spot to live. Its a wonderful city in the mountains. The weather is amazing, but you are still close to the beaaches and lowland countryside. I am super jealous! I love that country and hope to live there again one day.
Sadly Baguio has changed. I visited there in 2012 and 2020 just before the pandemic. Baguio is congested now, esp. the city center. Another earthquake similar to the one in 1990 can do great damage because the buildings built after this earthquake look shoddy. The major sited can be littered during the weekends. I'm sad to say but Baguio looked much better when the Americans had their base there. The base has been turned to commercial uses that you can hardly think USAF was ever there.

I live just fine on that and have no issues with connectivity at all. so, seeing your 43 mbps and hearing you call it "decent" is kind of mind blowing. that is a high speed that should cover any internet needs that you would ever have!
Well, that was in 2021, and I think his ISP is Converge Fiber-X which I am also using (I also live in Angeles City). In 2021 you get 50 Mbps for P1500, but they upgraded it to 100 Mbps then to 200Mbps, still on the same price of P1500. And that is the most basic plan.
Fascinating how Angeles City has changed over the years, which is to be expected. Very well done video, informative, interesting, and insightful. Thank you for your efforts. I look forward to more.
Splendid video, just to put things in better context, stated cost of living is ok if you are living in a secondary or provincial city with a modest lifestyle. The cost of living will significantly be a bit higher especially for the rent if you go to the primary urban centers like Makati or Cebu. Most of the country is tourist friendly and safe for solo tourist but for those thinking of visiting the Philippines on their own, just do your research very well or have someone who is familiar with the culture and norms as to give you a better guidance and experience on your stay. This will also help you to get better deals and avoid unsure places. Other than that, Philippines is an excellent destination for tourist, gives you a better value for your money.
Awesome my friend. I was there on a holiday early 2020 before you know what!! With the cost of living that cheap it makes me want to return as soon as I can.

I’m glad you’ll love to stay there…enjoy! ❤️🇨🇦
Yeah, but try to find a job in PH that pays you 600$ a month. Most jobs just give 250-400$/month. Only possible in big family house with several incomes combined.
Let's be honest. USD is much more valuable in the Philippines. So you get better value if you save and invest in the Philippines to move or retire there. However if you're living in the Philippines and making PHP currency, they consider it low salary and high cost of living. Or you could live in the Philippines with investment businesses or properties active in the US paying you USD

(But not in regular stores with fixed prices)
Learn the basics of the language.
(I prefer a budget of about $900 - $1000 per month)
I’ll be returning to Cambodia, to live there permanently.

@@user-tv4ih2kq6r Well if you say so. Who am I to say? I just lived there all my life.

You make me miss the Philippines so bad. I really enjoyed this video that I was smiling all throughout.
