Aw, man!!! So bummed about Staveley! I really enjoyed that series, and I was so hoping that you would too!
I had so much trouble getting into the writing style of Pariah. I will try picking it up again later probably.
So glad you appreciated (I almost said enjoyed, haha!) The Warrior Prophet! R. Scott Bakker is my favorite author, and I'm always thrilled to see someone else *appreciating* his work. I've yet to encounter any author who can top him. Cheers!
Hey! I was just in Disney Land last week. We must have missed each other. If I had seen you, I would have bullied you into finishing The Dragonbone Chair!
I would have considered it if you bought me a corn dog!
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews 😄
On the other hand, the religious aspect of The Covenant of Steel Trilogy is what made it work for me. The Pariah was so good, I immediately binged the final two books in sequence.
Glad you got to have a fun trip with your fam!!!
Since you like things like the wandering inn or dungeaon carl you should try the perfect run
Read book 1 and loved it
I think I had the same feeling with pariah. I audiobooked it and felt I missed a bit so going to give it another go. But I lived the waking forest books.
Just wanted to say that I also picked up Wandering Inn after seeing you put it in S tier multiple times. I'm now almost finished with Volume 2 and its already become close to my favorite series of all time. It's crazy how good WI gets overtime
Yay! That's wonderful!
You have me so pumped to try Bakker! It’s been so painful these past bunch of months to see you trying so many new mid series like Unhewn Throne with Shadows of the Apt on hold. That series is calling your name!!!
I know, I know, and it just got pushed back ANOTHER month. Ugh...I'll get to it soon I swear!
I am all set on the wandering inn. Read it all in 5 months its so epic. Thank you for your video's!
Whoa! You *really* binged them! 😂 I thought I was going fast! I began in Nov 2023, and I'm about to complete Tears of Liscor.
I've obviously read some other stuff in there, too. (The complete Farseer Trilogy - thanks, Matt! - and The Gentleman Bastards - a re-read.)
Yeah i was really digging it. The last book is so awesome i cant get my mind of it. I am now reading dungeon crawler carl, its really fun but i think pirate aba is my fav author now!
Just finished Son of the Black Sword - so good! What a nice surprise.
Shogun up next!
I k ow you say that was not a lot but from where I am sitting looks like a great month. I gotta get to Follett. Hope I am saying that right.
I wasn't going to read World without End because I heard the book 2 wasn't as good as book 1, but.... idk now haha. 😂
It's really, really good!
Because of you and a few other channels, I picked up The Wondering Inn by Pirate and I am loving it I am only 3 books in so far tho
The Covenant of Steel trilogy is very very good I hope you continue the series. Every book incorporates more magic/fantastical things than the last and of course he builds a new group. It's not a new group of thieves but military group instead the story itself is more like Joan of the Arc and Bloodsounder's Arc trilogy.
Welcome back Matt!!
Hi Matt, If you're looking for an unknown series, I recommend you to check (Galaxy's Edge) and (Galaxy in Flames) both great space operas.
I'm about to finish Tears of Liscor, so I was reading some reviews for Wind Runner. The reviews kind of nose-dived! I was shocked! Rains, Blood and Tears of Liscor all had a lot of action. The Wind Runner is a "breather" book, apparently. *I* think that's gonna be a great thing, but *a lot* of the reviews said it was the "2nd worst" after book #1. 🤷♀️
Readers in general hate "breather" books. I love em!
Relatively new subscriber here. Thank you for recommending the Esslemont books; I am in the middle of Path To Ascendancy and enjoying every chapter. I’m also looking forward to starting the Wandering Inn. -Regards
Such a wild ride! (twi) ... be patient (please!) with book #1. It starts sloooow, but I PROMISE it takes off. Have fun!
The audiobooks are TREMENDOUS! The narrator does *a lot* of very unique accents and speech patterns that add a lot to the story.
Man. We already did our big vacation to Peru a couple of months ago, and we don't have anything else planned until Dec. I don't miss those daycare years. My daughter is 16, and she's looking for a summer job.
I read 7 books in May, and they were all pretty good. The best ones were Trouble With Peace and Stones of Light by Zach Argyle. I also really liked The King's Blood by Daniel Abraham and Murder at Spindle Manor by Morgan Stang.
Trouble with Peace is SO good! Can't wait to eventually get to King's Blood!
Warrior Prophet is such a powerful reading. Definitely in my top ten along with some other giants like the last two books of The Second Apcalypse, Storm of Swords and Silmarillion
Staveley was a big disappointment for me too. Some cool ideas but the exetution was bad and I did not like his prose at all
Hey Matt! Any plans to continue the malazan re-read soon? I’m a first time reader of the series but caught up with Gardens of the moon and am excited to start the second!
I'm not going to organize a big thing like I did for the first. But I will let people know when I start the 2nd so they can talk with me about it. Won't be for a few months though.
Disney: Death March to Fun™
Hey, Matt! How's your health going?? Is the scent/taste thing straightened out? Did I miss an update about it somewhere? (I feel like I've watched everything 🤷♀️ )
Nope, just kind of don't think about it anymore! Going to try acupuncture soon, but not really holding out hope, not am I letting this really impact me. Not the biggest problem in the world 😀
According to phonics rules it's 😉
Love crusader kings 3 ! Did the ottomans or Persia give you any trouble ? It seems the a.i. always struggles against em.
Persia imploded pretty quickly and ended up a cakewalk. Really didn't run into any problems at any point, which is not normal!
Kingbridge series are all standalones??
They are a series, but not super connected. Best to read in order though.
@@MattsFantasyBookReviews plan on reading only the first book.. Conclusive ending for the first book??
@@MsBalharathey’re standalones but set in the same world hundreds of years later. If I’m not mistaken they just give shoutouts to previous books but I’ve only read the first one which was a masterpiece. 1000% read it
@@MsBalhara Yes very much so!
Sorry you didn’t like The Emperor’s Blades very much. I love the trilogy as well as the prequel and sequel books and think The Emperor’s Blades is the weakest, with The Providence of Fire (book two of the trilogy), Skullsworn (the prequel), and The Empire’s Ruin (the first of the sequel series) to be masterpieces. I recommend you push through. I will say though that the trilogy has one major blemish (mostly in the third book) of overrelying on a miscommunication/mistrusting trope that does get annoying.
I loved them too, but I do agree with you. I think "misunderstanding/miscommunication" is my LEAST favorite literary tool.
TIL, you live less than 2 hours away from me.
You in California or western Nevada?
