I don't think I'll try it again this year 😂

Hey ! I'm a Belgian reader (French side of the Force) and I just discovered your channel by trying to improve my English with other books lovers. So happy to see a person who speak English AND French !
My challenge is not to read more big books 'cause it's the case already. I've no problem with big books and honnestly, with ebooks, you don't see the difference most of the time. I read a lot of ebooks 'cause they are more pratical on the train, lighter and cheaper than paperbacks (French prices, I know English prices are very different).
My challenge is to read more English books. I read eight English books last year so I want to do at least ten this year. Fingers crossed !

I am planning on reading the follow up to that one World without end which is equally massive. I am probably not going to hit my reading goal but thats okay I am just trying to enjoy the books I am reading now. I may be a little more conservative next year we shall see good luck I can't wait to see how you do!

Great idea! Sometimes I shy away from bigger books, but I think it might be because of my use of Goodreads. I love Goodreads, but I think it makes me insecure about my reading count (so silly). I do love to read big books though. They give you such great world building and character development! Best of luck on your goal!!

You're definitely not alone in feeling this way! For some insane, maniacal reason, I decided I would read the entire Stephen King Dark Tower series consecutively without anything else between. I'm currently on book 5 of 7 (8 since the epilogue is a whole separate book). Each book is around 500-700 pages. What have I done.

  • @PlotsAndPoints

I've got a lot of massive books planned for 2018, I want to get through at least half of the wheel of time series (there's something like 13 or 14 books and the first one is over 700 pages!), Dune, and the wise man's fear. Considering I'm a slow reader that may well be my entire year but we'll see!
I've wanted to read the stand for a while too but it's just so long! Good luck with your goals!

Just found your channel and have binge watched a bunch or your episodes. I listen to a lot of audiobooks while driving around in my cruiser and when I am out sailing on my boat. You are so bubbly and cute when you explain why you like the books you do. The French Canadian accent is so cute too. It makes me laugh at times, which is an added bonus. FYI, I’m Canadian as well but don’t have that French accent. Not to say I don’t sound Canadian because I do notice in my videos I sometimes do say “eh?” at the end of my sentences. You don’t even realize you do it until you watch yourself. Ha ha. You seem to like similar types of books to what I like. Keep those videos coming. I’ll be watching. Craig

I've got the Inheritance Trilogy bind up and I'm planning to read it sometime next year too. And I also played with the floppy pages like you did in the beginning of the video. XD
His Dark Materials is also on next year's TBR. I've never read it (or seen the Golden Compass movie), so I don't know much about it, but I know it's well-loved. I'm looking forward to it!
Hopefully, I'll read more big books next year. Sometimes I just need a push to get me motivated; Tome Topple helps a lot. I actually got through LOTR this year! :)

I'm super intimidated by big books, but after reading It this year (which has the same # of pages as The Stand) I feel like I can read anything. I'm actually going to be reading The Stand in February, and several other of King's larger books this upcoming year as well. I think you'll do well in your reading, but good luck with this goal :D

  • @MartaWis

I love your channel, you made me read more Sci fi and thrillers in 2017 (and King! 😀). I'm going to wait for this video where you explain how you manage to read all those books in one year! The only book I'd consider "big" that I read this year was "It" and it left me only tired and disappointed. Picking up a huge book is challenging, especially if you're like me and you HAVE TO finish every book you start...

    • @BookswithEmilyFox

Don't be afraid of big books. I love to settle down and immerse myself in a thick book. Emma is a great Jane Austen book, Persuasion is my personal favourite. The Lies of Locke Lamora is fantastic world building, and has a great hook. Enjoy. (Oh, the David Eddings book was my first introduction to fantasy, I have a soft spot for it). I should re-read His Dark Materials it has been yeearrrsss. You have some fantastic picks for the year.

I’m definitely reading Leviathan Wakes, the Stand and Dragonriders of Pern in 2018. I am reading the Belgariad too but I just got the first book for Christmas and also A Brief History of Seven Killings by Marlon James which is pretty big and I’ve been wanting to read it for so long. Excited for 2018 Reading! Adding some of your Sci Fi books onto my TBR too!

It’s so weird! This video just popped up in my recommendations and watching your newer videos, I’m so surprised to see the books on your shelves being so different! So much YA, spotting some Pratchett books (I don’t remember seeing them on your shelves recently…), you talking about reading Stephen King and being sure you’re going to love it lol and rainbow shelves? Anyway why post on a 5yo vid? It’s just so random I had to share!

I LOVE big books! They don’t seem to intimidate me unless I’m unsure about whether I’ll like the story. The size, however, doesn’t bother me. I’m currently reading the Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson and I want to finish the Mistborn trilogy next year. I also want to read the 4th book in the Lightbringer series since book 5 comes out next year. I plan to read The Stand by Stephen King as well as Under the Dome, reread the Inheritance Cycle by Chris Paolini, reread Harry Potter, finish the Game of Thrones series and read more Brandon Sanderson! Good luck, Emily! Hoping you enjoy these books so I’ll have more big recommendations! Happy New Year!🎊

Similarly, I find them intimidating, and it's currently the biggest book on my tbr-shelf, so... hopefully I'll get motivated to read it!

  • @juliababyjenjenny8485
    @juliababyjenjenny8485 6 лет назад

I haven't read any of these! I love to read big books, but I also avoid them a lot, because I like to whip through books quickly, and I like to be able to devote all my time to a big book. My argument makes as much sense as yours does! I was hoping to also read 1 big book a month, I think I'll just pick something I'm in the mood for. I started reading Middlemarch in December, and I'm not done (the book is over 800 pages) so I think I'll just finish that one in January. I would LOVE to reread Gone With the Wind this year, its one of my favorites and its been awhile! Some others: Brisingr, Inheritance ( from the Eragon series), Invasion of the Tearling, The Fate of the Tearling, The Tea Rose by Jennifer Donnelly, the 2nd book in the Bronze Horseman series, reread Illuminae, Gemina, and then read Obsidio, A Game of Thrones, The Passage, The Bone Season. I'm sure there's more, that's just off the top of my head.

I know you don't need anymore big books but 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami is amazing! I'm a slow reader and it took me all summer to read but I really really recommend it 😀

Elena Guzman I’ve been considering 1Q84! Is that a good Murakami to start with?

Michele Arnwine You could but some people would consider it boring if they are not used to his style. To start I would recommend Norwegian Wood if you want a good cry, Dance Dance Dance if you want adventure, and The Wind Up Bird Chronicle if you want a mix of both c:

The Stand is also on my big books list for 2018 - hopefully I'll start it sometime in January! I've had my copy for a while but have been passing it up for shorter books.

You're right that opinions on Riyria can be divided, but dang I loved Riyria Revelations. The first 2 books are pretty light n breezy reads, but starting from the 3rd book things really start to ramp up, and books 5 & 6 are just fantastic.
The Expanse!! Awesome stuff, they can get really draggy in places but totally worth the occasional slogs.

I also decided to tackle some big books in 2018. Mine are mostly history, current events type books and historical biographies. I also have some fiction like Dune, Shogun, Freedom by Jonathan Franzen, some anthologies of Shakespeare and F. Scott Fitzgerald, as well as rereading His Dark Materials too. Best of luck with your thick book goals.

I 1000% recommend lies of Locke laboratory!! It is so good and filled with snarky characters, epic twists and intrigue that you don't see coming, thieves and masterminds while an entire world and its history is being beautifully laid out for you! Very much recommend!

Locke Lamora is great, i think you will have fun with this book :) It is big, but i read it really quick. It is an easy read, i'd say.

i laughed only seconds into the video ... reading def is a sport :D ... I really love the idea of this as I often am the same with big books. Lets see how 2018 goes but your idea goes on my pile for 2019 - I already have a project planned for 2018 that I would have loved to involve you but I had no way of contacting you :D. I love getting lost in them but 1400 pages .. wow, really? I often just push books with 500+ back because something exciting comes up that feels like "read it real quick and then pick up the biggie" ... really bad thing about this video is that I do not need more big books on my tbr :D Oh, and I am in love with your lipcolor. What are you wearing?

I have that bind up of The Inheritance Trilogy also. I think I will tackle it and The Stand the month you pick them so it'll give me a little motivation to read my big tbr books on my shelf. :(

I definitely get intimidated by big books too, hoping to change that in 2018! I've got American Gods, a Little Life & The Passage on my very intimidating tbr haha 😂

I loved The Stand. I read it my first year out of college- back in 87. The book still brings a smile to my face.

I LOVE the Lies of Locke Lamora!! In fact the whole Gentleman Bastard series is amazing! I listened to them on Audible and you don't even notice the length because the story is so good.
