      I would definitely recommend these... The One by John Marr, Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler and Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi xx

      The Palace Job by Patrick Weekes, which is a fantasy Oceans 11-style heist with sarcastic quips and a WoC as the main character.

      Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys was one of the best books i read this year. Also loved the Six of Crows duology. Carry On by Rainbow Rowell caught me by surprise. I ended up loving that book. I did not really enjoy the other books I read from her.

      Ilium by Dan Simmons. If you're tired of the repetitiveness of books, I would 100% recommend this one, it's the weirdest and the most unique book I've ever read. You're basically following the events of the Trojan War but it takes place on Mars in the future and it has Greek gods and goddesses, artificial intelligence and dinosaurs :'D

      This was probably the book I was the most excited to read this year. I saw it here on Emily’s channel first and literally squealed when I finally saw it in a big store. I only have sixty pages to go but it has taken me FOREVERRRRRR to get through. A slow read for me for some reason. I’m hoping the ending blows my mind because I’ve heard there is a big twist.

    I read the 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle thanks to your recommendation earlier this year and really liked it. The same for The Poppy War. I felt the same about Children of Blood and Bone. My pet peeve was the instalove. I think my favorite books this year were The Diviners series, Six of Crows, The Bear and the Nightingale, ACOMAF, and A Darker Shade of Magic. ⭐ I'll be reading The Way of Kings next, which has been intimidating, but I know I will love it.

    This year I've read "The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle", "The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo" and "The Long Walk" and I've really loved them all! It took me some time to read them, since english is not my native language (I'm actually from Spain) but I've really enjoyed them and I want to thank you for your channel, it's such a breath of fresh air.
    Typically the booktubers I follow that are around my age tend to read YA (which I love too), but they are all reading the same books all the time and your channel actually introduced me to some amazing books I've never thought I would be reading.
    So thank you for being honest, real and actually reading whatever you want to read. I'll continue to watch your channel to discover more gems like the ones I've mentioned. Merry Christmas :)

      I actually read all of them save for the Seven Deaths (...)! And all of them were 4 or 5 stars except for Poppy War and Circe which I gave 3 stars. Circe and Children of Blood and Bone were quite disappointing. CoBaB because of the awful instalove (but the world, magic system, and story overall were good, although I don't feel like reading the sequel because of the romance and the twitter drama lol); Circe because the more I got into the book, the less I cared for Circe herself. I also got the vibe that she fell for every man that was nice to her.

    • @bubblega1axy
      @bubblega1axy 5 лет назад

      Only one I read on this list was the Poppy War, but ended up giving it a 3/5 stars :/ Not sure if it's because I read it as an audiobook, but Rin's character seemed to have a complete personality shift midway. Plot-wise it was great though! I think the second book will be a lot better too now that the world is set up :)

    • @Jamhands9
      @Jamhands9 5 лет назад

      Claudia Robles I gave it 2 stars. Rin’s character is so inconsistent. That plus I read large parts of the novel are basically taken from history and other fiction books. That’s what dropped it from a 3 to a 2.

      The his dark materials trilogy is my fave since middle grade, nothing can ever top it and everytime i read it i swear it gets better (and i didn't love la belle sauvage either unfortunately).
      If you enjoyed sagan's way of thinking i highly highly recommend "the varieties of scientific experience". It's non fiction and if i recall correctly it was published posthumously by his wife based on lectures he gave and notes. It's awe inspiring honestly, he was such a brilliant man

    Loved 7 1/2 Deaths! Some of it was not as big of a twist because I read a lot of sci-fi but I loved the mystery so much it didn’t matter.

    Best books...
    Obsidio (which is probably my biggest shock considering how the first two books went for me)
    City of Brass
    The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet (Thanks for the recommendation)!
    Scythe and Thunderhead
    ... It's funny. My average rating for the year on goodreads is higher than normal, but at the same time I feel like this is the year where I was utterly unimpressed by pretty much everything.

    I have tried to read Red Sister several times in the last year. I am not sure if I am just not in the right head space for the story when I pick it up, (which happens a lot with me. I can pick something up more than once and not be interested and later on devour the thing) or if I just really cannot get into Mark Lawrence's writing which I've tried reading more than once as well. My sister is a big fan of his and this is easily one of her favorite ongoing series right now but idk. I usually really like what you have to say about books so perhaps this just means I'll need to give it another try. Also The Fifth Season was amazing. Shout out to black fantasy/Sci-fi writers. We need this!!

    Some of the best books I read in 2018 are: How to Stop Time by Matt Haig, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi, The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson, Fortunately, the Milk by Neil Gaiman, Stardust by Neil Gaiman, Reasons to Stay Alive by Matt Haig & HorrorStor by Grady Hendrix.
    I also have a feeling that the book I'm currently reading, The Green Mile by Stephen King, will also become a favourite.

    The broken earth trilogy was my absolute favorite series of the year, so original. I also loved the seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I read song of Achilles By Madeline Miller and it was amazing I can’t wait to get to Circe soon. I sadly didn’t enjoy the Poppy War as much as I thought I would, I just wasn’t a fan of the pacing and the contradictory way it dealt with drug use. Hoping to pick up several of the other ones you mentioned next year.

    cannot wait to read both evelyn hugo and evelyn hardcastle next year! focusing on more festive books for the end of this year for now but already got such a huge TBR for next year 😅 my favourite reads of the year were The Hoarder by Jess Kidd, We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson, The Beginning of the World... by Jen Campbell (magical realism short stories and they're incredible), Darkest Part of the Forest by Holly Black, Pocketful of Crows by Joanne Harries (novella filled with local, natural magic from the perspective of a 'girl of the woods, a traveller' which deals with love, loss, racism and nature and it's a beautiful book all round), and Peter Pan which is my absolute favourite story ever and it's always going to get 5 stars from me :']

    Have you check out The Rithmatist by Brandon Sanderson? It's not part of his Cosmere. It's set in an alternate universe earth, where magic directly influenced culture and religion from the very beginning. It follows a 16 year old boy in a magical school. I think you would like it!
    Also, the Kingfountain series by Jeff Wheeler. I've only read the first two so far, but I LOVED both of those books. Currently, almost the entire series is out, I think we're waiting on one more? They aren't long reads either, but fast-paced and enjoyable, and the magic system is pretty unique as well.

    I loved The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle too :) The Humans is on my wishlist.
    As for mine:
    - Vicious, by V. E. Schwab. I finally got to read it and loved it. I can't wait to read Vengeful!
    - Release, by Patrick Ness. Now I need to get to the Chaos Walking trilogy.
    - Clean, by Juno Dawson. I did enjoy Cruel Summer too and have preordered Meat Market.
    - The Exact Opposite of Okay, by Laura Steven, was really funny.
    - And my biggest surprise this year: Tattoo Atlas, by Tim Floreen. A YA thriller with a touch of Sci-Fi, you might actually like it :)
