I watch videos like this for one reason: to try and assuage my crippling fear of turbulence. Thank you for documenting this extremely common occurrence in a calming manner!
I flew this flight many times on the old A340-500. This was back when SQ would fly over Russia and the flight often went straight over the North Pole, out of New York. At 3AM, over the North Pole, you would go through 12 time zones in 4 or 5 minutes and it was suddenly 3PM. And you also gained a day at the same time. Weird.
you're a legend bra - keep posting and your channel will be massive, guaranteed! good to see a humble aussie representing a country forced to fly long-hual because of our geographic location.
Brilliant video (as usual). Your editing and commentary made a seemingly boring 19 hour flight into something super interesting to watch. Keep up the amazing work!
that solo seat is quite some distance from the window. I love to look out and down. Was that an issue? I would probably risk having someone next to me for a better view.
Loved the video! It was very informative and entertaining. Next time, if you have the option, do try out the long haul/ultra long haul business class products that SQ offers. They are different. Based on your previous video, the one you experienced on the 787 is the regional configuration. Whereas the A380's and B777 have the long haul configuration. For the A350's, they have 3 configurations and they are split according to their aircraft registration. If you're on a long-haul A350, the aircraft reg would fall under 9V-SM_ or 9V-SJ_. If you're on the ultra-long range then you will have the 9V-SG_, if you're on the regional aircraft configuration which is the same as the 787, those would have a 9V-SH_ registration. Hope this helps with your future bookings and do keep posting! 😃
Great review! Little correction - the business class seats on the 350ULR planes are the same as the 777s which are their 'long haul' product vs the 'regional' seat you reviewed that they use to BNE + PER etc.
Bro, absolutely love the videos, informative and great quality, your chill vibe makes it even better. Keep pumping these out because I think I have finished your channel in the past week lol
I completely agree with your assessment on project Sunrise. I wouldn’t pay a premium for 20 hour long torture in either PE or E… and I'd even think twice about doing it in BC. Maybe once, for novelty? 🤷♂️
As I worked for one of the biggest Catering company around the world who serves SQ ! Hate to break it down to you that Your Main Meals are just standard economy meals 😭 in a posh way !
Thanks for your fantastic review! Those solo seats at the back of the ULR are among my favourites in Premium Economy anywhere - on those long flights, I change into my QF PJs once airborne, pretend I'm in Business Class, and more often than not, disembark happy as a lark.
Love the video - does it get lonely travelling by yourself all the time and all over the world? At least you can you have done it now. From Matt in Melbourne Australia 👍
Sometimes! Though I now have a few friends around the world that I can visit on the way. Travelling a lot alone has now made travelling with people the most annoying activity!
My next flight will be be San Francisco to Auckland, around 14 hours. I’ll be in a econousky couch seat, where you get the whole row to yourself and the seats convert to a lie flat couch. Have you done that?
26:22 “I will definitely be trying to get on one of those early project sunrise flights; but not with a whole lot of gusto” Just however much gusto you can fit in your carry on? 😉
Converting the ULR back into standard -900s also requires reconfiguring the forward cargo hold. The forward cargo hold on the ULR is literally an empty space with no equipment or liners.
I flew the Singapore Airlines Route LAX to SIN in business class both directions, followed 2 months later by Qatar Airlines Route MIA to DIA in Premium coach. Coach had 10 seats per row, which was uncomfortable (especially getting to the restroom). The fact that they tried to get everyone to sleep through the majority of the flight exacerbated the issue. In both flights I felt incredibly disoriented after disembarkation. Next time I think I will stop in Eastern Europe overnight before continuing to my Thailand destination! Thank you for your review.
I think you'll be better in Business class because you actually get what amounts to a small lie-down bed to get decent sleep. That makes a huige difference on these 18 hour flights.
0:58 you weren’t impressed by SQ Biz class seat? Hmmm SQ actually has 4 different types of Biz class seats. ULR Biz Class seats aren’t the same as the one you reviewed previously which was for A350 mid-haul journey (which are the same for B787 as well). Suggest you to try other SQ Biz Class seats - A350 long-haul (which are similar to B773), A380 as well as B738 for fair comparisons. Anyway great vid 👍
I agree that sunrise makes little sense. Getting off that plane for a bit to stretch your legs is a great value. Flying Paris to Sydney can be achieved for about 1200 bucks, and if we include chinese airlines, it can even be done at 900 bucks. Knowing Qantas, it'll likely be much higher. Add to that if you're a oneworld status holder, it makes more sense to fly with Qatar through Doha and spend some time in the lounge too. I just can't imagine spending 20 hours in a plane, let stand these 18 hours- cheers for suffering for us !!
The flight is awesome I have taken 2 times, as an airplane enthusiast I really enjoy it, it’s a really long flight yes, but I love to be on airplanes, so i dont mind.
I love your reviews so much!!! The Food out EWR is trash, your right. Even food in C is not good. Flying out of SIN though is a whole other story. Food is very tasty if catered in SIN.
I enjoy your videos, but I got an especially good chuckle in this one the way you pronounced the departure airport. It is no different than the way an American would unknowingly pronounce Canberra or Cairns. Locally the departure airport is pronounced Nuwurk, said quickly and as one word. I grew up south of there and knew that pronunciation my entire life. I then moved a few hours south and there’s another town south of Philadelphia called Newark but it is pronounced sorta like you did but with a longer break between the two halves, they pronounce it as New. Ark.
Great review and appreciate the through research into the JFK-Newark rivalry for world’s longest flight. That flight that was 19h 52m would have been quite a slog! Whilst everyone is talking about direct flights between the east coast and the US each coast and Europe hopefully Project Sunrise will also eventually link Australia’s West Coast with the West Coast of America!
How long ago was this flight? Lol a long time to edit I understand but you said “airline fixed food in March so I’m skipping the food review” -- it’s November now. Lmao. Sheesh. I usually only watch these vids for the food portions. But you saying that made me ask
I love this route, or actually the one from JFK, as it makes NYC -> IST/INC/DXB/AUH/DIA/etc. -> SIN -> UPG which is about 24 hours in the air with 3-14 hr layovers in each airport reduce to NYC -> SIN -> UPG shaving at least 2 hours off of in the air time, and a layover that usually would be on the higher end. Instead of over a day and a half to get to my destination, it's under 24 hours. And while enjoying Singapore Air's superior service and food. I'm a fan.
And I guess you address this right at the end, but in my experience you can't do 2-3 hour layovers at each stop, because it's a full day of travel, you always seem to get stuck somewhere for 10-14 hours. Perhaps not the case flying to Sydney, but when your final destination is a bit smaller, and the choices start to reduce in size, the long layover becomes a thing. I have utilized that for mini layover vacations, but frequently, especially as I get older, I just want to get to my destination that much quicker...
Great report, thank you! Ref the QF flights: what you're missing is that QF have done the numbers on Sunrise based on their experience with QF 9/10 ie the PER > LHR flights As a UK-based Australian, I can tell you that the QF 787 direct Perth flights are always more expensive than the SIN A380 flights, around £1,000 more. The evidence clearly suggests yes, people will pay more for a direct flight. You're not old enough to remember that during the introduction of the 747-438 back in the late 1980s/early 1990s, QF heavily promoted the new one-stop service from MEL/SYD to LHR, when the competition still did it in three stops. In a way, the new Sunrise project is really just an extension of that innovation.
Amazing review! Thank you! I also think Project Sunrise will be a bust. I fly to MEL - Europe 4 times a year always in under 25 hours. Usually business and sometimes economy. I love the stop over. I’ve never had significant flight delays. It’s worth it for all sorts of reasons especially a shower. Also when I’m business travelling the 3-5 hours isn’t going to matter to my employer. What nonsense. Am I paying extra to rock up to London HQ the great unwashed straight from Heathrow. The customer personas they’re expecting to market this to are a fantasy.
I think that this will be the longest flight in the world for a long time... NOBODY would want to be in the air much longer than that, especially in Economy. I hope that Boom's new Supersonic opens doors to longer flights at shorter duration at lower prices.
Just though I'd say, Singapore Airlines has 3 different A350 configurations, regional a350s which have 40 business class seats and 263 economy (same seats as the 787-10), long-haul a350 which have 42 in business, 24 in premium economy then 187 in economy (business, premium economy and on older planes, economy, are the same seats as the 777) and then on their ulr a350s, 67 in business and 94 in premium economy (business is the same as lr a350s and 777s, premium economy is different)
