- In 1985 or 1986, Dennis Wolfberg appeared for the first time on a popular Late Night television show. I happened to tape it that night on a VHS tape that I finally digitized.
VHS (analog) signal degrades over the years by magnetic "bleeding' so the image quality has suffered, regrettably. - Приколы
My favorite comedian of ALL time. Took away from us way too soon. I miss his stories. I watch him every chance I see him on the tube. RIP
I saw him in Atlanta back in 1994. His routine last over 3 hours!! It was absolutely the funniest thing I ever saw. I missed part of his shtick because I was laughing so hard I couldn't hear him. He is and always will be the BEST stand up comedian ever!!
That was sadly near the end of his life. He was a legend.
Definitely one of the Top Ten from the last thirty-five years.
I was lucky to see Dennis also, the best
Dennis just randomly popped into my head. Always enjoyed him when I was younger.
R.I.P. Dennis thanks for the laughs
To this day, my family wishes each other a Happy Chaka Khan.
What a great comic. I've been a fan of his for a long time. Totally original. Best delivery.
One of my all-time favorite comics. Talent like this comes around so rarely. Tragic when he passed so young.... An incomplete life
Completely original and hilarious. I was sad to hear he died so young from cancer...
i loved this guy -- i am SO grateful for youtube!!!!
One of my all time fav comics. He's passed now from cancer.
He died in 1994, sadly.
Great act! Always loved the "fiber content of a ball of twine" routine...remembered that for years😂🇺🇸
"It's one thing to be regular, it's another to be UNSTOPPABLE!"
Raw twine...
A great comedian. His facial expressions are great. The stressing of punchlines reminds me of Sam Kinison. He'll be missed.
I don't mind comics who work blue at all. Pryor, Carlin, Rock, etc. are all fantastic. Wolfberg had a unique delivery combined with a creative use of the language which made him hysterical.
I've bought tickets to see the following comedians live: Richard Pryor; George Carlin; Eddie Murphy, at the Comic Strip before famous; Jay Leno (with a group); Dennis Wolfberg; assorted others...
Wolfberg killed 'em all.
My favorite ever, going way back to the NY comedy clubs in the late '70's-early '80's. I liked him *even* *better* when he had his guitar!! -- The house would be already rocking when he bounced onto the stage strumming his chords, and then he'd cap it all off at the end with a rousing "American Pie." My favorite ever.
In addition to being funny the amount of energy this guy is exerting is incredible.
I was medically deflowered. Great line.
One of the funniest I've ever seen.
Bill Bur and Bert kreitzer were both bragging on their new podcast about how funny this guy was
I'm glad they did. This man is brilliant, and I never would've known
This never gets old. Never. This guy left us way too soon.
He was great!!
Happy Birthday Dennis Wolfberg! You were absolutely hilarious and are missed.
Carson should've invited him over to talk. I would've.
Agreed. I’m surprise he didn’t
Why did I click on this? Yesterday was my Dad's 100th birthday. He passed away 44 years ago. I have lived fourteen years longer than he did. Dad was a type "'A" personality and I am a sort of "Cast Your Fate to the Wind personality.
Dennis , Gilbert , Louie , Rodney.......1980's good times
After all this time, Wolfberg never fails to make me laugh.
I’m on a Dennis binge. Can’t stop laughing. One of the greats.
My favorite comic. He was the GOAT. I'm so sorry that he passed.
What a SILLY, SILLY man! Ironic that we lost him at only 48 years old. Exceptional delivery and timing, no profanity. The perfect storm of ridiculous comedy.
Thanks, this man was on his way, but I guess God wanted him more. This is a bit later than 86.
Sungodv As an atheist the comment that god wanted him more is so ridiculous. No, unfortunately he died of cancer at a young age. No god involved.
Carson should’ve invited him over to the couch. No idea why he didn’t. Might have changed the entire trajectory of his career. You can hear Johnny in the background laughing hysterically. Absolutely killed.
I saw a big chunk of the episode tonight on TV. They were running super late and he had Joe Garagiola coming out after, and they hardly had time for him.
‘I was medically deflowered, and he charged me 300 bucks!’ Hilarious. I remember Wolfberg many times on TV back in the 1980s. I always laughed out loud.
The ORIGINAL Gilbert Godfrey!! No.....Dennis was a LEGEND. Period. End of story.
Well, no comparison, except maybe vocally. But he was, in fact on SNL before Dennis Wolfberg came along. Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilbert_Gottfried
Joshua Rialto 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Gottfried?
no, this guy is actually funny, and by the way it's "Gottfried"
a great comic no doubt the only comic that made me laugh till it hurt r i p dennis
Fantastic;)
Terrific video - thank you for posting! Dennis was the best ever!
I wonder why Johnny didn't invite him over to the couch, though. . .
😂😂😂😂 That was Great 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Dennis even waited a few seconds like a true pro to be invited to sit down with Carson 😢 A horrible mistake on Carson part not to give Dennis a sit down for a few seconds only the Elite Comics would get 😱😱😱😱😱
Agreed
I thought the same thing. Dennis earned and deserved the honor. Too bad.
Agree
I remember this routine! I forgot about this guy for years! Somebody mentioned his name on a podcast saying he was super funny so I looked him up I think I've actually watched this OG routine and laughing my ass off!
I’ve seen at least five videos of Mr. Wolfberg in which he does this routine. I rarely hear him do any other material (I’m sure he wrote plenty and I wonder where it might be), but I still laugh at this every single time. RIP Dennis.
Funny stuff.
I laughed so hard I cried too.
Great delivery on his punchlines.
A genius.
R.I.P.
Honestly, one of the funniest bits in the history of stand-up comedy
I'm absolutely surprised, as well as disappointed, that this comic never became as famous as Seinfeld or Dangerfield. He is a screamingly entertaining performer. Thank the Lord for RUclips and its contributors.
He was just getting in to high gear when he was forced to put it in to (permanent) park. Very sad.
I have looked everywhere for this love this guy!!
The good old days before a comedian felt compelled to do material to "save the world" Good stuff!
I miss Dennis Wolfsberg, Sam Kinison, and Richard Pryor. They were the best comedians ever. Nobody in the last 10-20 years has come close to being as funny as those guys.
mattcolver1 Richard Jeni and John Pinette did, I feel.
Add George Carlin to that list. A master of the English language.
@mattcolver. Brian Regan.
I had the great pleasure of meeting him at a comedy club near Asbury Park when I was working at WJLK. Extremely nice guy . . . piss your pants funny . . . gone way too soon.
Great comedian
Awesome!!
I cried when he died. Dennis was my favourite ❤
Here because Jeff Allen said Mr Wolfberg was one of his favorite comedians.
I think I have this on VHS, too...
One of the funniest men around Gone too soon.
"The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson" is where he debuted this classic routine. Just as hilarious now as it was then! Dennis Wolfberg; Robin Williams; Bob Saget; and, of course, Betty White. The funniest always seem to get taken away, way too soon.
Betty was a few weeks short of her 100th Birthday when she passed. Just saying. Not EXACTLY too soon. Nevertheless, all will be missed.
One of the all time greats. And the greats, sadly, all seem to go early. Also, Sam K., Mitch H., and Patrice. All faves, all gone too soon.
"Medically deflowered." Great line.
"Edgy" doesn't mean good. This guy was Good - "edgy" or no. He would get work in any era.
yes, still funny and sad that he died so young
Oh my gosh, this guy was so funny. Wow!
Odd that you would describe it as 'a popular Late Night television show.' It was The Tonight Show!
+angelthman Well, it was popular, although I never watched it myself.
sha11235
Makes you sound ignorant.
Interesting comment! I hear yrs ago that he died of melanoma...Tragic. What a great comic he was!
playinhard Baby doll melanoma is a cancer. We all miss him
RIP.... taken to early! he was great!
That delivery.
Did he just get back from two weeks in the Caribbean?
Care to ACTUALLY mention the Tonight Show is the specific late night show??? I doubt Johnny's estate would freak dude.
Gone too young.
Taken from us too soon.
funny but I get tense watching this guy
Gooshie! Center me on Sam! #QuantumLeap
She was a hundred and two. Someone told her to act her age and she dropped dead.
He and Gilbert Godfrey have a similar comedic attack
Did Johnny invite him back to the couch?
I don't recall. Sorry!
Apparently not. Other commenters said that the show was running over
Why didn't Johnny wave him over to the couch? He killed.
Gooshie!!!
reminds me of george kastanza from seinfeld
Good thing he died before edgy comedians took the stage, (Sara Silverman), because this guy wouldn't know edgy if he was cut and bleeding.
This is horrible.
what a creepy dude. his whole persona is unlikable and spastic. material is pedestrian and comics that constantly snicker at their own material makes them look pathetic.
OR, it's one of the classic comedy bits of all time.
Wow...are you in a tiny minority. He's hilarious! Makes me wonder who you find funny.
srg914 Answer: Dane Cook.
the fuck do you know
Are you one of those people that laugh while Keith Olbermann reads an old book?
