    Watching these videos has made me want to go to Vietnam and Japan and everywhere in between. Such a beautiful area and everyone seems so humble and happy. Not a world that takes things for granted as we do in America. I am talking about what we just expect to have when we wake up. Like air condition, heat, electricity, running water etc. All the things we don't consider a luxury. We are a very spoiled group of people and certainly can not survive if we didn't have all of our luxuries. I was the first to whine about no electric after the several hurricanes that hit Florida in the past 6 years. I shut my mouth when I saw the devastation in places like Haiti and Puerto Rico.

Paired with Lontong (Indonesian rice cake wrap in banana leaf), fried tofu, fried shallots, and serve with shrimp paste base broth/dressing. It contains 5 types of flavor in 1 bite: sourness from starfruit, bitterness and sweetness from shredded greens and herbs once blended with fermented shrimp paste, umani and saltiness from the small clam meats and also fermented shrimp paste. That's pretty delicious, and you can get all 5 flavor in a dish from 40-60 cent (10k - 15k vnd)! Thanks Sonny for bring this delicious dish up

I long crave for that dish since I traveled there back and forth many times. It was like 50 cents for a decent bowl of that. You can have Ramen, Rice, or Bun noodles. • @forfault
      @forfault 2 года назад +3

      It's true, but also correct for many small towns in Vietnam, the thing is if you run a food stalls here, your only customer is the local so if your food suck, you wouldn't last, the stalls that sell food has been doing it and perfected their trade for years, that's why everything taste good. In big city like HCM and HN you will have way more random customers so crappy food is weeded out much slower

    I love bun bo hue more than pho and that is my go to when I have Vietnamese. However, I can never seem to find it served with the congealed blood in restaurants (at least in PA). It usually only has the pork trotter, slices of beef, and a type of fish patty. I'm not sure if I have to ask for it, I am Chinese American so I wouldn't know how to.
    When I lived in the southwest US, I went to a restaurant that offered bun bo hue on the menu and they actually asked if you wanted it "Vietnamese" style, of course I always said yes and that had all the traditional ingredients. Otherwise, most menus call it "spicy beef noodle soup", where it does not have any of the more "adventurous" meats for simpler palates, just a broth similar to bun bo hue and thick vermicelli noodles.

    • @xboxstudent
      @xboxstudent 2 года назад

      Blood cake is usually considers as "barbaric and unhygienic" ingredients to add into a dish by people's perception in the US. That why you rarely find a Vietnamese restaurant in the US that has blood cake in the food. Unless you asked them to be "authentic"

    • @CGSteve8718
      @CGSteve8718 2 года назад +1

      @@xboxstudent Yes I am aware of the perception, but people who are likely to order bu bo hue would generally be Asian. I think it would be safe to say most non Asian Westerners new to Vietnamese food would be ordering pho. Bun bo hue usually isn't even easy to find on menus as it is not under "pho" or sometimes not even in the "noodles" section.
      All ethnic foods in the US have some restrictions on their traditional foods to be more marketable to the native customers with the exception of Cantonese dim sum places. That seems to be the only time where chicken feet, congealed blood, century eggs, etc. are carted around for everyone (non Chinese/Asian) to see and try!
