This is honestly one of the best roles Colin Farrell has ever done. Dude is so versatile it’s insane. Vince Vaughan was incredible too! The entire cast in this season was phenomenal.
Season 2 deserves a higher rating then what it got when it first came out imo. I just rewatched it from like 8 or 9 years ago and it was entertaining. A ton of character names to follow but the acting was solid.
Incredible cast and acting. For my impression, the story was too much complicated, getting lost with so many names and chatacters, i watched this resume because i got absolutely messed up with the storyline. Thank you.
Honestly, it’s not my favorite season because I think there’s just too much going on. It was hard to keep up with. Season one still the best season three pretty good. I haven’t watched anything from night country yet season two definitely least coherent story.
Well the ending doesnt say but it makes the assumption that it will. Season 1 was more serial killer then conspiracy. It wrapped up nicely. S2 was all over the place. Too many characters and building up relationships with characters only to have them wiped out. It kinda reminded me of Fargo a bit.
The thing i really liked about this is season is it's one of the few times in modern media that the bad guys win and the "good guy's" utterly fail. I didn't get the hate behind it at the time but maybe people aren't ready for those kinds of story i guess.
I’m fine with the “good guys” losing. However, it was just lazily written. I feel like they were just trying to copy the Departed with a lot of the deaths and twists but just completely failed to do so.
Not gonna lie. I now understand why people felt the need that Season 2 will always compare to season 01. They were expecting more stuff like season 1. I love season 2 because it's letting us know that there are times you can't always win against the system. No matter how many times you will win, there's a good chance you'll lose too. It's about stepping out of the formula to create something new. Yes there are some noir la investigation vibes but there's no heroes, everyone loses with some little gains.
It's a shame so many people compared this to season 1. They're completely different and both incredible pieces of work in their own right. Two of the best TV seasons I've ever seen, hands down.
Season 2 is dense. I like the constant shit-storm that it is. It's constant pressure. Just when you think the characters are ahead you realize they are so far behind that playing catch up is out of the question. The season would have been better had Pizzolatto's ego not got in the way. Six directors, heavily worded scenes, and a one-year timeline ultimately made this feel a little undercooked. If you can keep up with what's happening and understand the little nuances in the dialogue you'll find that it's a really good story.
Before I watch the Great Recap and Chill, I am going thru True Detective till season 4, and you know what? I loved Season 2. I'm not even trying to compare it to the previous season cause you can't. Season 2 was fantastic ! Loved it!
Yeah, I agree. I think every season of True Detective is good. I treat them as their own thing individually and try not to compare each season, even though Season 1 is the best one.
It was a very good season except for the ending. Hard to believe that Ray and Frank, two streets smart guys, would make such stupid mistakes which led to their downfall. Ray should never have visited his son’s school, as it increased his chances of being caught exponentially. And someone as street smart as Frank should never have punched the guy who asked for his suit when there were five armed men right there. I know the diamonds were in the suit but I feel like he could’ve calmed them when giving the suit to the guy. Just bad decisions that seemed out of character.
I did have to really concentrate and reread the story to see all the characters and the connections and I thought it was really interesting maybe confusing though lol I loved loved Ani and Ray I wish they had more intimate scenes they were so perfect together
Honest opinion, Vince Vaughn was not a great choice for Frank. Paul could've been completely axed altogether. Decent season, not great, not horrible. Collin Farrell was excellent and Rachael Madams was fantastic as well. Loved the modern L.A. Noir vibe of the season but hated every moment we spent with Frank or Paul. Both Paul and Frank weren't great characters for different reasons.. Frank just was not at all convincing as a kingpin/crime lord and Paul's arch had no closure and seemingly no discernable purpose at all save for being the one to find Casper. S2 doesn't deserve the hate it gets but it certainly is no masterpiece either. 6/10 T.V. Not bad
@@RecapAndChill And there is one more thing that I wanted to ask that can you also do a recap video of the X-men:The animated series recap as it's been said that X-men '97 would be a continuation of that original series. It would be really helpful if you can do this. Thanks
I always had a soft spot for this season. Its a mess but theres something about it i like. Going for a LA Noire/James Ellroy vibe was the perfect idea for season 2. It just got rushed.
some things bothered me in S2. collin‘s and vince death for instance. collin could have escaped. vince was intelligent enough to understand the serious situation he is in. dying for a suit is stupid.
I've never watched the 2nd season, I've always heard that it wasn't good, but I think that it suffered from following season one. I always heard people say had it not followed season one, it probably would've been more highly rated.
I just finished it and man i just could not keep track of all these people. It was so hard. The story got too crazy and its a shame. Season 1 was better because it was less crowded. So basically the guy who killed the motorcycle cop gets away with it and with killing Ray as well ? wtf ?
True Detective came out too early. If all 3 seasons came out now with season 4, I'm sure the ratings would've been higher. True Crime is a big thing now and people are now getting into it.
The problem with True Detective: Season 2 is the people of TD:1. They wanted the same old artificially-plot driven series like in TD:1. So they lashed out like unemployed housewives when they didn't get that in TD:2 and their little minds couldn't handle. TD:2 is above mainstream Hollywood.
The story was way too convoluted - even this summary misses things. Frank is not 'prideful' To humiliate him (after he gives up his brief case of cash) the Mexicans tell him to give them his suit too- before leaving him with the slim chance of walking out of the desert. He has diamonds in the suit which represent the majority of his money. The Mexicans do not know it and consequently after stabbing him they drive off letting him keep the suit. He dies with the diamonds still on him.
God, this season was utter trash! The last episode was just lazily written and the whole vibe of the season just made you not care about any of the characters. I always tell people new to the series to just skip Season 2.
It's a mess. Everyone (with the exceptions of Rachel McAdams' character and Frank's Wife) was so corrupt that it just seemed like a leopards eating faces sesh after the main characters join the leopards eat your face party. Frank does business with a cartel... And then is killed by a cartel! (Did he think these were nice people?). Even Woodruff, who the audience is supposed to sympathize with (I think?) completely lacks a spine and puts his poor fiance through misery by staying with her and getting her pregnant. Velcoro is a straight up drug abusing homicidal a-hole. The creators were going for "flawed people take on an even more flawed system" but came off like.. 'yeah everyone here is part of the problem, it's crooked to the core". Ponderously nihilistic.
I was also very upset at the end but then you start to realize the theme between their three deaths. They all had one major weakness. Rays was his family, specifically his son. Woodrugh was his shame of his sexuality, and franks was his pride (not to mention the 3 million dollars in diamonds he had in his jacket they were trying to take.) Their deaths served a point, and once that hit me it was a lot easier to understand why they were written to die. More appreciable atleast
I think that was the point. Perhaps this series got Halloween syndrome. If they reversed the order of seasons one and two, i think season 2 could have been better received. The acting was far superior in season, with Rachel McAdams delivering a unique character with believable motivations and other seasoned actor like Colin Ferrell and Vince Vaughn bringing their "A" game All in all, it was a productive season that followed a logic order of events. My negative criticism would have to be the writers not sticking the landing. The ending felt like cope out.
A plot like this is already hard to pull off and having to do it in under a year combined with the loss of talent from behind the scenes of season 1 it’s no wonder this season sucked

Ray was a fantastic character to watch
Thank you for this breakdown. After 2 episodes I wasn’t pulled in. Couldn’t sit through the whole season 😢😂
The amount of melodrama in this season was wild. lol
Season one, uncovering a conspiracy. season two, trying to uncover conspiracy but doesn’t work out in their favor.
They didn’t really uncover it in season one

The reason people hated it had nothing to do with anything other than the fact that it had a shit ending
This way of speaking with really heavy up and down tones is very obnoxious, please don’t do that in future videos
Vinci, pronounced Vin-chi, not Vin-see. They literally say it like 15 times an episode.
