The GoPro looks noticeably better. That shark footage was crazy! 😲
I like the DJI a tad better in the end. Up close to the rocks and coral there’s a green hue to the picture but in all the deeper pictures the contrast is superior in DJI. The reef bottom is much more clear in the DJI from farther out. I also appreciated the wider picture captured on the DJI. Thanks for the video!
thanks for the feedback!
I noticed that too.
The reef bottom clarity up close with the DJI was amazing.
He has a tough decision
Neither camera was perfect for all scnerios
But in the end, if you’re not watching side by side cameras but just one, either will be fine imho
I noticed the smae contrast and saturation difference. If this footage is straight out of camera, the DJI looks better. But like you said. Both are good, tough decisions.
Wow it really is a toss up. Both cameras did a great job. In some shot I thought the DJI showed the background clearer. I would be happy to watch your videos on either camera, so with ever you choose keep on bringing us the awesome shots!
love to hear it!
As a joiner of the vast family of you tubers. I have chosen the go pro 11 myself and you just helped confirm it. Look forward to the possibility of events with people like you and Gabe and Kelly!! Tight lines.
haha I appreciate it!
for me, the gopro looked to be better quality up until the spearing segment, and then i preferred the dji. this is a killer video and i REALLY appreciate you doing comparisons like this. I do content full time in a different realm not related to outdoors but ive been considering filming my escapades since I just moved down here to florida last month and I cant decide what camera to get.
yea its def hard to tell, since most of my footage is on a head cam and you don't see the people. still may be advantage gopro. but hard to say! thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoyed it.
Both are very good. It's splitting hairs to choose one, but the go pro just barely edges it out. Love the content, keep up the good work! Love to see some more "Iron Chef" type stuff with Will!
thats how I feel! thank you!
Thank you for this video, I’ve been searching for a true underwater comparison and you did a great job. I favor the DJI by a hair. I wasn’t there to verify colors, but they seemed more natural to me on the DJI than the GoPro at all depths. On my iPad I can’t see any difference in sharpness and not enough in dynamic range to worry about. Thanks again, best wishes.
thanks for the feedback!
Hey I just want to start by saying I’m a huge fan and I love the videos. I miss my home state of Florida and can’t wait to move back now that my wife and I are out of the military. Your videos are the perfect blend of informative and entertaining and I thank you for it. You have sparked a desire to start free diving in me that I can’t shake off lol. Thank you for everything you do. And as far as this video goes I think over all I’m gonna have to give it to the DJI. You seem to get more field of view in the footage and the color grading seems more accurate to what you actually see and almost has a movie quality to it. I think the DJI is better suited to your film style and would help set you videos apart from the other content creators out there. It would be nice to see how it preforms in dirty water and the mangroves side by side like shown here to be sure it’s best suited for where you film the most. Thank you for always making my days better and happy holidays.
can't thank you enough for the kind words and really appreciate the feedback! happy holidays!
Man, what a great comparison video! I use go pros myself and was a little biased starting the video. I’ve got to say the DGI was really impressive. At the end of the video I couldn’t say which I like more! I would say for you, as much video as you shoot, ease of use would be my deciding factor. Both cameras preformed exceptionally well. Thank you for another great video!
Def tough to say! Thanks so much!
GoPro for sure, i like the color correcting feature. I have an older GoPro and run a magenta filter to correct the green effect that comes from losing red from being underwater especially in the northeast. The downside is that it’s really noticeable on the surface and in shallow water but once you hit 30ft or so it clears up.
yea ive never messed with those but have heard of alot of people using them! thanks for the feedback!
@@KeyWestWaterman absolutely, appreciate the content as always!
I pick the one that will get you and Madeleine out there to make more for us that will never be able to see it in person. You are doing a great job! Thank You!
Haha love to hear it! Thank you!
How I feel lucky that youtube recommended your channel. Subscribed right away. I like freediving and spearfishing. I liked the video. Please keep them coming
love to hear it! 🙏
The GoPro appears to be better as the DJI has a green tint to the color. That being said the DJI had a bit more contrast in some footage. I would think there are adjustments on both to dial in the colors. I know the GoPro has some more advanced features for shooting video out of the water for those using it as a multi-purpose. Like you said they both provide very good footage so a difficult choice. Personally I would go for the GoPro for now unless DJI provides some color adjustment or had a firmware update for color correction IMO. Loved the hammerhead footage and the dive footage!
yea its a tough call! would they both can be fine tuned problem is with diving its constantly different conditions, visibility, depths etc. so that auto mode needs to preform best. thanks for tuning in!
Thanks for the kind words Aaron!
Btw I typically just have a single wrap of shooting line on my gun so I can get to the fish quickly. Helps a lot when Goliaths and sharks are around.
Was a pleasure brother! And i’ve been preaching single wraps on reefs guns for years now. Love it!
I think the go pro looks clearer and more natural. Love the channel I'm going spearfishing for the first time this summer and your channel has been a huge help in preparation me for the water as well as new ways of cooking fish. Thanks!
really love to hear that! thanks for the feedback
I would say to use the one that you can get the best shots with. Both are close. Thanks for sharing!
Great comparison video Dibs! The only thing the DJI was definitely better was the wider angle. I found it was definitely greener in a lot of shots as compared to the bluer crisper GP. Overall, either will be great but I prefer the GP.
yea for sure, thanks for tuning in!
That’s honestly hard to choose. They each have their own perks. I have to go with the DGI. Not a big enough difference in quality though. Just keep pumping out videos. I know you guys are super busy but maybe throwing out an extra “vlog” style video here and there would be cool.
I do appreciate it! def stay busy haha
Been waiting for this video! Excited to see the difference.
love to hear it!
The surface level & 3rd person looked better from the DJI & the first person, deeper shots seemed to be better on the GoPro from what I was able to see. Hope this helps! Love your content & appreciate you bringing us along!
it does! thank you!
Wow, That last dive. Incredible, I will have to say G-Pro overall.
thanks for the feedback!
Hi Aaron. The GoPro is better. If the size bothers you, get the Mini. I think you confused color temperature or white balance with the thermal temperature. When you use auto white balance, the camera uses an algorithm to decide what adjustments it needs to make to create a balanced image (not too green or pink, not too warm/yellow or cool/blue). The algorithms in the newer cameras got better at setting the white balance automatically underwater. Underwater white balance is challenging because the water blocks the red wavelengths of light. The deeper you go, the less red you have, so the camera has to add a lot of red and magenta to compensate. The GoPro sometimes looks pink/red for a few seconds when you come back to the surface, because it adjusts the white balance more gradually than the Dji (slower WB adjustement is preferrable, less jarring). Professional videographers set the white blance manually using a grey card and or shoot in raw to get a perfectly balanced image. You can also improve the color of your videos by color correcting in post (I know you are busy, this takes time and practice to learn and perform every time). The blocky pixelation on some of the Dji clips is compression artefact. The GoPro does a much better job at preserving information on busy scenes. Make sure to turn High bitrate and 10-Bit color on in the Protune settings. You can also download the GoPro Labs firmware to get even higher bitrates on the GoPro
haha thats a foreign language to me! but some of that makes sense. will have to look into the mini! thanks for the feedback! 🙏
What he said. :)
sorry wondering if u can get similar video color with the DJI if the video is processed again with video software ?
yes WB 5000/5500 under water is best and on the GP 10 color natural....I hate the pink when using WB Auto :)
This comment about covered it!
+1 vote for the GoPro overall. On a side note it’s such a cool perspective to see the boat behind you bobbing on the surface. It really shows how are just a visitor in the water. Thanks for sharing.
thank you! and thats funny I was thinking the same thing when I was editing this video.
they both have a great platform to work with. great video
glad you enjoyed it!
Go pro hands down for underwater, DJI seems to do better topside (from the little bit we saw in this vid) so maybe have that one in the boat? Would be cool to see a topside comparison of both also. Really appreciate your commitment to putting out quality content. Keep up the great work!
yea thats kinda how I felt about it! maybe ill do that, thank you!
@@KeyWestWaterman also the DJI may do better for the shallow water mangrove tunnel stuff since there’s lots of light and transitions from under and out of water. Could do a whole series of comparisons that would probably do really well since there’s not many vids out there. Also I’m just rambling for the algorithm so don’t feel like you have to respond again. Peace!
I agree with 100acre. Below about 10 feet the GP appears to have better color and clarity. Above 10 feet the DJI gets my nod for the same reason. Thanks for your videos, I look forward to them every week.
I really enjoyed the shark footage and thought it was really cool. As for the cameras I prefer the wider field of view and higher color rendering of the DJI but I think it almost needs color grading to reach its full potential. If you do decide to go with the DJI I would look into setting the color temperature manually and that should let you get rid of the green tones you are seeing. At least I think it should based on my experience using DSLR cameras for photography.
glad you enjoyed it! and yea I could get fancy with it but im looking for a "plug and play" camera haha, not very tech savvy. I do appreciate the feedback!
Great comparison but very hard to choose one over the other…each had some better colors over the other at different times based on location - depth and angle to available light. In other words, I’m no help at all, haha. We will all be happy with whichever you choose - mix them up on your trips and you have a contest for us to pick which you used. Cheers!
As a PlugandPlay camera, I think the GoPro is better. I have seen some good videos off DJI’s…but only after color correction.
Yes!!! Very happy seeing this, thank you so much
love to hear it!
Just happy to watch your videos brotha . Keep up the great content 🤙🏾🤙🏾
thank you! 🙏
Great comparison and excellent footage as always! Unwilling I hate to give it to GoPro but must due to clarity and definition . Color correction and enhancements can easily be made during editing but you can’t fix graininess. I say unwillingly because how can I trust a company I’ve used for years who knowingly released a poor product. You did great going with the GoPro11. Can’t say the same for me and my multiple GoPro10s that have endless issues. Great video! When you get to the point when you’re ready to take on a videographer/video editor hit me up!
hate to hear that! heard the 10's had alot of issues. thanks for the feedback!
Tough call, but since the toughest shots to get are low light/deep water, I’d go with the GoPro. Everything else is “good enough” but what makes your channel shine is the underwater shots.
Great video of the hammerhead! Also, did you see the broken fishing line trailing behind the Goliath grouper? Some angler lost that tussle!
appreciate the feedback and yes I did!
I have no dog in this hunt and liked the Go Pro better initially. The DJI had a few scenes where I liked it, but in general I preferred the Go Pro overall. I'll trust your eye as to the best representation of reality 80 feet under water. Every video you do is a gift.
I appreciate the feedback!
Thank you for this comparison. I’m a beginner snorkeling. First try was with a Sealife iPhone case, researching DJI pocket vs action. Action 3 or 4 has my vote 👍🤙🏽
If you aren't looking to color grade anything post production I would go with the gopro. As a viewer it was easier to make out features on the bottom and see what was going on because the DJI still had the noticeable green/blue tint to all the surroundings.
yea im looking for a plug n play type of camera we are very low budget over here! 😂
I agree about pros and cons with both cameras. I would be curious about cost difference... Looks like GoPro 11 comes in at $399 and DJI comes in at $329. I like that both cameras are water proof so no need to have the outside shell/underwater housing anymore. Thanks for putting this together!
We need the housing regardless as we dive much deeper than the cameras are rated for. But def had to sayb
If you drown your camera due to a leaking gasket, DJI will not honor your warranty and you must purchase a new camera. if you have an additional warranty in gopro (thanks to which you can buy a camera cheaper) they will replace the camera for you twice for free, no matter what condition you send the camera back to them.
Champ!
DJI for surface/shallow waters and/or boat footage. Go pro for the deeps. Amazing job! That hammerhead got confused with 2 different signals coming from ya. He came to check it out closer.
Blessings from Brazil!
not a bad idea! thank you!
@@KeyWestWaterman My pleasure, champ! Thank you for the great content in forms of vdo quality, hints and tips on spearing and specially the cleaning and cooking. Wish I could have met you and Mad when I used to live in Marathon.
Great comparison video! I can see why it would be hard to chose a all around camera. But it seems the ski is better at the surface and the GoPro down at depth.
thanks for watching!
I don't think you can actually compare them effectively without color-grading the footage. The gopro seems to have slightly better automatic color temp correction so it'll look better to most people. The DJI also has wider FoV so again the gopro will look a bit sharper (more pixels per degree of FoV).
i'm looking for a plug and play kind of camera as I don't color grade any of my footage. kind of the point for me.
The DJI looked better in shallow/ out of water. Definitely go pro for the underwater/ deeper footage.
appreciate it!
Go Pro has served you well, and video’s are fantastic! Keep them video’s coming!
haha thank you!
I’m torn between the two camera’s footage but I think the Go Pro just had the edge overall.
I love the way those sharks just come in so close and then cruise on by!
Goliath grouper fish looked so cool too.
yea def hard to tell! thanks so much!
My vote is for the GoPro: color correcting and greater range of colors overall. You could try the new Mini to reduce some of the weight on your mask mount. Would love to see more shots from below the other diver; so interesting to watch all the controlled body movements that go into a shot and retrieve. Keep the awesome content coming! 🤙
I do appreciate the info!
Overall I liked the GoPro video quality. I enjoyed how bright the colors were, and I also noticed the graininess in the middle of the water column on the DJI.
yea the grains kept throwing me off. looked like 720p! lol
Great video, I remember the hammerheads coming into the channel during the winter. On balance, I found the GoPro the better camera. DJI is a player and GoPro had better stay on its game - but for now, and price point being somewhat equal, the GoPro has my vote.
haha every winter! I do appreciate it!
Eyes spent more time looking at the GoPro. Love ur content, never miss an episode.
love to hear that! thanks for sharing!
First here 🇯🇲🇯🇲 the go pro for sure it has more clarity
thanks for watching!
definitely the gopro! man what are you gonna do with that dji?? probably just throw it out. use the garbage in my room.
its in the trash by the road, go grab it before the trash comes tomorrow morning!
You make the choice Arron as you can NOT please everyone and as long as you keep making the videos most of us will keep watching Love them all, Here in Canada there is 3' of ice on the water we dive please keep up the good work
I do appreciate it!
DJI on diving , resurface & surface of water . GP on the bottom , in the boat & backyard kitchen . Would like to see the difference between the two in the mangroves , shallows & or caves ( with underwater light ) . Seems the DJI has a little more turquoise color & I did notice the grainy illusion from the DJI when you spoke of it . GP seemed to have a hint of cloudy & pink at times . Both look good but I'm also curious about all weather conditions as far as quality. Overcast vs sunshine etc etc . Awesome video and some great points to think about ! Thanks for the content as always & y'all have a great weekend !!
yea may have to test them in other settings as well! thanks for the feedback!
I have done alot of diving in the keys and to me the GoPro seems oversaturated the DJI seems like it's more true to reality on video color. But there were some situations where the GoPro image quality was definitely a lot cleaner. That's a tough one for me. They both have their advantages and disadvantages.
yea its a tough call for sure!
Both have good picture and quality, with that said I noticed that I focused on the GO PRo while viewing. The Hammerhead was Defiantly a cool shot!!!!!
was an awesome shot! loved filming it haha
I’ll be watching either way. Your stuff great bud. Thank you!
love to hear it! thanks so much
All of your videos are amazing thank you for sharing them. I think the GoPro camera looked better. But the dji was also very good.
thank you! love to hear it!
Holy smokes. That’s amazing. I’m running an older GoPro (2) and it can’t hold a candle to the new ones.
haha old school!
Both look amazing. Roll with whichever fits you best.
thank you!
Hard to choose. Both shoot great footage!!
Side by side shots made it easy to notice the differences. While both seemed to take quality shots, I like the rich blue colors the GoPro produced.✌
yea def did!
What up my ocean brother . Pros and cons , It seems like the DJI has a better picture at the top but the GO PRO is my opinion way better as you get deeper and go down . So I would have to go with the GO PRO . And awesome footage of the Hammer Head that was priceless . As always great episode and thanks for what you do for us . God Bless and have a great holiday and MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR . 👍🙏
thanks for the feedback! You as well!
For transparency, I am red/green color blind and I am certain this plays a role in my preference. I saw a clearer picture in the Go Pro in general as the DJI pic at times seems grainy. But there were shots where I could see the DJI picture was sharper and with more contrast. When filming the other divers I notices it in their gear the most. My vote goes to GoPro but I think either way you go you will be good Aaron. Thanks for the awesome content. Something I look forward to weekly.
My wife and I love your videos!
I think overall the gopro was better. We did however prefer the dji on the bottom but the clarity of the gopro can't be beat, even if the color is a little off from time to time. Keep the content coming!
love to hear it! thanks for the feedback!
From someone who is particularly colour blind , I found the clarity of the GoPro much better. The tints and shades overall were best with the GoPro. Cliff from Nova Scotia. Keep up the fantastic videos!
Thanks for the feedback! 🙏🏻
Good to know from this aspect!
Loved the GoPro for the up close and personal shots, but I’m a fan of trying to find the fish on your way to the bottom before you announce them and the DJI seems to be a noticeable amount clearer at distance. So it’s the DJI for me, both are much better than the GoPro 8! Love the videos, keep ‘EM coming!
I appreciate the feedback!
My vote is for the GoPro, i feel like the imagine is bigger and the colors are more vivid. I think the go pro shares your experiences better.
Thank you for sharing your videos
thanks for the feedback!
Good video! Both those cameras were pretty good
Thank you!
I really think its 6 in one, half dozen in the other. Definitely preference there are shots I love 100% more on the GoPro and then next clip 100% Loving the other... both great cameras but I think its personal preference they both shot great video. This was a cool one thanks brother!
yea its a tough call for sure! I appreciate it!
Yes, I also vote for the GoPro 11. Thanks for allowing us to vote and comment on your selection.
Absolutely! Thank you!
Overall I think the DJI is slightly better with the one exception on the green hue , I think that either cameras preformes well enough to make great content for RUclips. Thanks for the great videos and all the knowledge that you pass to us fellow spearfishermen !
thanks for the feedback!
I think I preferred the DJI. I liked the wider field of view, and the colors at shallows depths. Whatever you choose will be amazing though.
I do appreciate it!
Hey brother- Go Pro looks like the cleaner picture. Thanks for what you are doing.
thank you!
Thanks for this! Been curious
absolutely!
Dibs it's the Gopro 4 me. Thanks for your time and hard work/ keep doing you.
Thank you!
Super sick footage of that big hammerhead, what a treat that was to be up close to. GoPro 11 all the way bro 👍🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
was awesome to see!
Gday from west Australia KWW, long time watcher first time commenting, love the content it’s fantastic so thank you! My preference is the GP, the green tint of the DJI is a little dull. Keep it up and good luck, see you in KW soon!
Love to hear it! Thanks so much! 🙏🏻
Good afternoon Aaron 😊 in my opinion the Go Pro as the colour looks more real. All the very best .....that shot of the hammer head 👌
thanks so much! 🙏
Gotta go with the GoPro, seemed much brighter and clearer. The hammerhead footage is insane, would've surely got my heart racing!
thank you! haha it was pretty cool!
Gopro hands down, but i use my DJI for lots of timelapses, Using photo-timelapse- color grade Photoshop - Edit, Adobe Premier Pro, also DJI Action, and shooting in manual mode, helps with good ND filter. But doing deep drops you wouldn't want to be in manual mode. But the clarity on the bottom, the footage from the Gopro looks great and in other shots the dji has better contrast on the reef. This could be the sensor built into the camera playing catch up at low light level.
My overall take... Some images from the bottom had amazing contrast with the Dji, But the Gopro had better coloring on the fish,
But what it comes down to is the coloring of your face on the first drop, Dji was extremely green, this might be an easy fix playing with white balance setting.
Hope this was helpful
I can agree with that! Thanks for the feedback!
Beautiful footage definitely prefer the go pro but dji color is better at times.
Yea kinda hard to say!
Thank you for sharing you’re the best!!
thank you!
you did great job bro
Thank you!
DJI for the win! I was surprised I thought It would be a no brainer for the GoPro but the DJI color saturation was more appealing to me. Great footage as always!!
I appreciate the feedback!
A little late to the comment reel here, but I found myself looking at the GP view more, better detail and contrast. Although I kinda liked the other view in the last dive. Loved the hammerhead shot, very cool. Enjoy your videos.
yea I ended up with gopro, I do appreciate the feedback!
Thanks 😊
thank you!
I can definitely see pros and cons on both cams, but I think I'm a bit partial to the GoPro. GoPro tends to have less UV filtering which helps out a lot in low light and under water clarity, but then has a bit of a tradeoff in bright light.
thank you!
Overall I say GoPro it seemed at times the details get a little fuzzy on the DJI. But the pinkness when you seem to get closer to the surface is definitely noticeable on the GoPro. The DJI did better on that. But at the end of the day all that can be corrected in the editing of the footage. What you want is clarity a little bit of off color isn’t a big deal. Great fair comparison 👍
thanks for the feedback! 🙏
Both are great, so hard to pick. I’m going to go with the GoPro. Great video!
thanks for the feedback!
Aaron like others have said, I will echo as well. GoPro. However either way they both are really good. I guess you could go GoPro as your main and have the DJI as backup
I appreciate it!
Both cameras look great, but the GoPro is better for sure. Thinking abt starting to make spearing videos of my own so this helps a lot!
I do appreciate it!
Go Pro for sure.... not even a question in my opinion, the color washout of the DJI was off putting when compared side by side. I do agree that if they weren't side by side both would likely be fine. But the Go Pro is more vibrant, and sharper imo. Great channel man.
thank you!
I personally like the GoPro. That last dive was insane. Amazing bro.
glad you enjoyed it! thank you!
Final dive was awesome!!!
loved it!
I also noticed pros and cons, would probably give it to the GoPro since it doesn’t have that green tint. Either way, both are great cameras and happy to watch on whichever camera wins 👍🏻
I'd say take the camera that gives you the best battery life and gives you the least issues. If you took either file into a color correction software I'm pretty sure you'd have the same power.... it's really incredible how good uw video has gotten!
yea that will come into play for sure!
I prefer the go pro camera. They are both good but the go pro just seemed a little more clear. I'm telling you brother, you could sell a lot of those still shots, that hammer head was sick!!!
appreciate the feedback! and im soon investing in a real camera to capture some of those!
definitely leaning towards gopro, both looked great, sick hammerhead shot always cool to see!!
thank you brother!
They both look amazing, I did not like the pink at the surface and I don't plan to be as awesome as you deep underwater :) for surface snorkeling I think I will go with 3 vs 11 they both amazing :) thank you so much
Dibs, I would definitely go with the GoPro brother. The DJI had some really cool shots for sure and definitely some better color shots but out of the entire video you filmed I think the GoPro was significantly better for probably 90% of it. That hammerhead was sick!! Love your channel dude and always look forward to your episodes every week. 🤙🏻
I appreciate the feedback!
Definitely GoPro. You have an amazing ability to hold your breath. It's definitely a unique skill. Keep up the good work. We otherwise would not be able to see the world under the water.
thanks for the feedback! 🙏
mostly just to buck the trend but I actually did like the DJI better, the contrast and depth stand out and that green tint doesn't bother me, I'm sure most people wouldn't even realize if it wasn't side by side.
Thanks for the video, awesome diving!
you're probably right! thanks for the feedback!
I was thinking to buy the DJI, thank you so much ❗️
happy to help!
Great Video both are excellent though I lean towards GoPro due to the sensor size on the GoPro Hero 11 - the 8:7 ratio gives you more vertical in the shots which is nice! I feel the contrast on the DJI was better BUT the shadows detail IMHO on the GoPro is better though flatter!
Haven’t messed with that setting yet but thank you!
6 to 1, half a dozen to the other. I like how the DGI picks up the reef/rubble, and fish/ eel look sharper and pop. The GoPro wins the rest. Like to see DGI in the ledges w flashlight. If it flies, it’s my pick for reef excursions. Ns why, but all the fish look 5-10% larger w GoPro to me. Angle of fish eye lens? You have a winning philosophy and character regardless of camera choice. Thank you Brother!
