That 3 sec count you mentioned save my life, all other site or video just mention you need to press home & power together, wait till apple appear then release the power, which is wrong.
I have had a bricked device sitting in my office for almost 6 months now. I had not been able to locate this procedure. Thanks so much. Excellent work. Well presented. Why couldn't Apple have this protocol posted somewhere?
TWO IMPORTANT UPDATES: If you have a Mac running macOS Catalina 10.15, you'll use Finder instead of iTunes. Open Finder on your Mac - your iPhone should appear under "Locations". If your iPad doesn't have a Home button:
iPad is not listed under Locations but it does show up in the top menu bar. I can use it as a second display or display my computer on the iPad so it's connected somehow. Any ideas?
@@mejmn9139 I had the same problem and could not get restore to fully run. Thought it was dead. Hold the home and power buttons at the same time for 10 seconds or more and let go of both as soon as the Apple logo comes on.
I just tried this today 11-04-2019 and I want to say thank you. My daughter’s iPad was frozen with the apple logo showing but I followed these steps and everything is perfect. Thank you
So I have an iPad stuck in restore mode - the screen with the cord going into it. I did all the steps on the apple web site. Talked to their tech support. Went to the Apple Store. Had a genius work on it. He said it was not fixable, and I could sell it for scrap for $50. I left the store. Put the IPad in my electronic scrap bag. Then I saw this video. Tried your recommendations. Boom. iPad Pro is alive again. Thank you! 🎉❤
OMG, you already have a zillion comments like this, but here's another: Thanks to you, my 1-1/4-year old iPad that's been a brick for 8 months is now back to her former glory. I can't tell you how many hours I spent on the phone with Apple when it happened before I gave up. Your video emboldened me to try again. The other key for me was that I still couldn't get it to restore from the Finder on my MacBook - your method would get it into restore mode, but it would crash out of it before the restore could complete. So instead I ran the restore from iTunes in a Windows emulator (Parallels Desktop), and was finally able to get the iPad up and running. Then I switched back to Finder and restored my data from a backup there. Now everything's back that I lost all those months ago. I feel like I just got a brand new iPad ... for the second time!
Ipad stuck in recovery, tried everything. Threw in the towel and took to Apple authorized repair shop. They couldn't get it out of recovery and said trash it, has to be a hardware failure. I just couldn't - why would iOS update break an ipad? This tutorial got it done. I'm eternally grateful, ipad back and updated. Can't wait the take in the shop and rub the "experts" faces in their failure. Thank you!
Apple employees are probably not told how to do this or possibly for sales purposes deliberately hold back this information so you purchase a new device. 🤔
For mine, it only is going into recovery mode most of the time, but the reason I know it shouldn’t be replaced is because I got it into DFU mode once, they really need to make this easier
Thanks this worked, it was the count to 3 that all the other videos are missing. Unfortunately I could not backup any of my data. I don't know how anything on the device could be backed-up when it's stuck in a loop with the apple logo. Also after the recovery attempt I received an error (14) which sent me off to find the solution for that.
YEAH!!! My husband's ANCIENT iPad was frozen, only able to get to Apple logo screen. Watched your soft reset, no luck. Tried next level, no luck. Finally bit the bullet and after several tries of getting iTunes on my PC to recognize his iPad.. SUCCESS! Full DFU done. He wasnt 'sure if he had backed up or not...senior moment, for sure. Luckily his iPad was set to automatically back up. He's back in action and I am VERY happy to have found your straight forward RUclips videos. THANK YOU!
But how can you restore from a backup if the DFU mode makes you update to a later operating system?... i must be missing something, mine won’t charge so it won’t show the Apple logo ... any help?
You guys are changing hard lives , I’m gonna show all the support I can as much as the support and help you guys both have to all of us including those people who have hard times with their devices.
My ipad was stuck in restore mode and error 4010 occured using iTunes. Software was going cost $30-60$ to repair it. This DFU mode tip helped and fixed my issue for free. Thank you-
Thank you so much for this quick process. I haven't used my iPad in 3 years because it was disabled and I just recently purchased a MacBook Air and now I am able to use my iPad.
I started the process, I didn't have a backup, but I couldn't start the ipad and it didn't appear to charge. So this was my last option. Thank you I didn't even know there was a DFU restore. Hopefully this will fix it!
Thank you so much. I held down the two buttons for 30 sec and it worked. I am up in the mountains in Switzerland far from anything, and you saved my life. I owe you bigtime. Thanks, Janis Gloystein
Question: I got this iPad that won’t show anything on the screen when I do basic troubleshooting, and it won’t turn on. I plug it into my computer won’t come up on iTunes unless I put it into DFU mode. When I try to restore it says waiting for iPad for about 10 minutes and then it gives me an error. Has anyone ran into this problem and if so how can you fix it?
Thank you; it really solved my issue. I was having trouble updating my iPad 10.5 Pro 2017. It kept staying stuck in verifying the update! Thank you so much!
You guys are the BEST- the Genius at the Apple Store told me that my iPad 5 (2017) was no good and offered to sell me a new one. Then I found your video and it restored perfectly. And I echo other comments in saying thank you for making a concise video that works!!!
I had this problem with my brand-new iPad and tried everything including all you said and it would not work. Then I said a prayer to have the angels help me fix it as a last-ditch effort before I would send it back. And a voice said, "Remove your Bitdefender Antivirus from your iPad". Well as soon as I did that the iPad jumped right on the internet. Something about my Bitdefender configuration was not working with the iPad because the iPad started malfunctioning after I put Bitdefender on. But I still need my anti-virus on my iPad so I will have to look into it. Bitdefender with VPN works perfectly still on my old iPad Air so I need to figure out what the problem is. So here goes my second deep dive to see how this can be resolved now. But great video tho you guys!
Thank you guys. You are geniuses!! My husband's ipad battery was draining so fast, even after I turned off most of the apps, even Siri. Nothing worked until I followed your directives on the video. Now the battery is healthy and drains normally. I am a fan now!!!
Trying to do this to make my iPad get passed the Apple logo loop. When I’m in DFU, I shift click and then click restore, I choose my file. Then I click restore and it keeps switching to recovery mode at that point before it can finish the restore. What do I do?
Mine gives me a message stating there's a problem with my iPad that a update may fix. But the update is gives me is 12.5.5 which is the version I already have.
Thanks a lot, this really helped me out with an old iPad I was locked out of. iTunes kept saying I needed the latest version installed on my windows 7 computer for some reason even though I did have the latest but it worked flawlessly on my sister's computer which runs windows 10.
first vid that got it to where I could do it regularly! Nice...now, after I choose to restore, it goes into "restoring the software" but it says "waiting for Ipad" on top because as soon as I told it to restore, it turned itself off and lost sync with my laptop. It comes back up with the attach the USB cord logo and its just sitting here with the "waiting for ipad" on top. Should it be doing something? My ipad is stuck in a power loop: white screen with apple logo comes up for 5 seconds, then it reboots and loops for as long as the battery will hold out. If I plug it into Itunes it will eventually return to "restore" screen but whatever I choose to do, reset or restore, it will power off and start the loop again. Im at a loss.
Big thanks, was able to revive a iPad Pro after an iOS update made the device stuck at apple logo stage, even went to local apple store can’t help. Now my iPad is as good as new.
quick question:even if I hold the 2 buttons as in this video it still won’t show life and I need to connect it to my pc iTunes to do the DFU restore how can I do a back up 1st if the iPad isn’t turning on or showing up on iTunes?
I found your video to be helpful. I got my ipad free from state program for being deaf. After three years the ipad becomes mine. took me about an hour to realise that USB-C to Lightning will not allow you to enter DFU mode (on my 8th get iPAD at least). Please add a note to only use USB-A to Lightning cables??
I changed my Screen on my iPad 4 and the apple log went coming on but I tunes sees it did a DFU mode and the DFU MODE LOT WORKING so I think I am going to put craked digitizer back on to see if this is the Problem. as I was putting the new digitizer on I was trying to put the cable for the power button the wrong way for over an hour before I realized I had to flip the cable to go in. I also don't think I turned it off before i got fixing it fingers crossed.
Iv got a iPad 6th gen, everytime i try put it in DFU mode or recovery mode it doesnt want to do it. I then have to remove the cable and it automatically boots itself up. My problem is my friend's kid typed the password in to many times and its disabled so im forced to restore to factory settings.. is there another way other then recovery mode and DFU mode to fix my problem?
Thank you so much my iPad hasn’t been restoring in 3 years and when I found this video it was my last chance thank you so much without you guys I would have to bring my iPad to Apple and get it restore so you don’t even know how much this means to me. To all the people that say it doesn’t work it does and if you don’t get the first time try unplugging it then plugging it back in so thank you so much.the fact you guys had the most detailed videos ever goodbye 👋 and again thank you so much
And now it is actually just giving me the battery with the slim red bar the pops on and off. I held down the power and home button for over 2 minutes and never did get the apple to appear. Any fixes for that?
My iPad screen would keep turning black but I could hear sounds. Followed the steps here and successfully restored the iPad but the issue didn’t go away.
Oh my god ,, My iPad hasn’t been charging since like a week ago !!! And I couldn’t charge it . I had to sleep while holding it in the edge of the corner of my bed so that it can charge . I get so uncomfortable and later then in the morning it appears it’s charged as 38% . So when I tried the first method in the video back , it literally worked !
i have ipad first generation which after connecting it ti itunes comes to apple logo and stop at that not changing at all even after several hours of charging at times shows it is in DFU mode please help
I followed your directions and get the message I need to restore my ipad...when I click ok to get to the window behind this message to restore the ipad...it disappears with the first message I need to restore in front of it. I've tried it again and again to no avail. My problem is my ipad won't charge. I've tried 4 different apple cables and chargers and outlets and my computer! NADA! I don't get the little sound it makes when it recognizes it's been plugged in nor do I see the little lightening bolt there on the top right screen. Any suggestions?
Im at the point to put in password on itunes to start the restore but when i did, it keeps saying incorrect password, why is this happening?? I did same password 3 times but same result, should i set it up as new ipad and later do the restore it????? Plz help I tried about 4 other passwords i have with emails n other accounts but none worked, i dont know what to do, but i did back it up before i went into DFU mode like u guys mentioned
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! I had a new iPad that had no power & didn’t detect the power cable. Usual tips Didnt work. Then I found you ❤️ DFU mode ... boom!! All happy again. Nice one guys😎👍

When I hold down the home button and the on button, nothing happens. It just stays black or shows the battery and charger logo. What should I do?.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! I had a new iPad that had no power & didn’t detect the power cable. Usual tips Didnt work. Then I found you ❤️ DFU mode ... boom!! All happy again. Nice one guys😎👍
How did you get DFU mode to work if you had no power? I wonder if this would have fixed my dead iPhone 6s....
