He was probably stoned out of his mind and OD'd near the trail or maybe was a victim of foul play. The mama cougar and her cubs didn't kill him, they scavenged his overdosed remains and were killed for the crime of opportunity.
"He was probably" doesn't make it absolute, or even likely. Being on the defense of the "Mama Cougar and her Cubs" might make you feel noble, but it's totally unrealistic, as Cougars; unlike K-9's, won't eat carrion. So if they were feeding on a body, it was fresh.... Period. That is exactly why they kill more often during the summer months, because meat spoils faster. I have done Depredation Work in several states, and can tell you, that your scenario has no basis in reality...
@@prestonjoy8092 It's all speculation and my possible theory ( theory does not mean conclusive proof positive ) is just as probable as any other. If the man was high and was ether passed out or possibly staggering along in what would appear to be a compromised state to the Cougars, they might have either attacked him or, if he was passed out or already dead, maybe capitalized on an easy meal. Cougars kill when they need to eat, summer or winter and while a carcass may decompose faster in warm weather that doesn't change that fact. They also cache their kills and return to feed on them over a period of time. I too live in Mtn. Lion territory and am pretty well versed on their habits. Again, it's all speculation but IF the cat family did stumble across his passed out or recently deceased remains and fed on him due to those circumstances rather than a flat out attack, it is a sad ending for the cats.
