My 55 y.o. husband has been diagnosed with an approximate 5cm x 3cm Parotid Tumor. He discovered it in October. After the Scans & Referral to the ENT Dr, we finally had the Consultation Visit on Wednesday 12/4. It's almost the same size as the gland itself & protrudes out his neck causing him discomfort. So, that's concerning to us. The Dr doesn't want to do a FNA & risk infection. He states he is very busy (understandable) and Surgeries are booking in February.
My question is, if the tumor is Benign at this point, could it become malignant in that amount of time (per your evolution chart of the tumor)? Or if it's Malignant, could it metastasize to other organs, in a few months? We feel like there's no sense of urgency. Your advice is much appreciated. 🙏🏻🤞🏻
Hi, I’m so sorry your family is going through this. I prefer to do a biopsy to know where I stand and how quickly i need to act. In the past 25 years that I’ve been working I have only seen maybe 2 people get an infection from a needle biopsy. They are done under sterile conditions. The information that I gained from a biopsy is very helpful to me. If it is a cancer then waiting to February makes no sense. If it is not a cancer, then you can wait till then to do the surgery.
