In Italy already exists a flavour of Fanta that is based on bloody oranges, it's called "Fanta aranciata rossa" which literally translates to Fanta red orange juice, if you can find it it would be a more direct comparison

In other parts of the world, Fanta releases mystery flavours more frequently, not just on Halloween

Having so many people tasting "blue raspberry" definitely reminded me of the "Don't Trust Your TASTE" episode, where the colors of things could fool your sense of taste because of your expectations.

As an Italian, Matpat absoulutely KILLED the pronounciation of the film!
He did falter at the Dracula part, and he butchered Aranciata and Sicilia.
@@dezdanna9297 Yeah! But still, the pronounciation is amazing for someone who (I'd assume) doesn't speak Italian as a second or first language :) Most non-italian speakers butcher Italian pronounciation so it's refreshing to hear someone not badly butcher an Italian pronounciation ^^

I find it really interesting how "You can't tell what it tastes like!" became a sales argument.
My group of friends used to live for the 'they changed the slurpee flavour' days when the machine was halfway between the old flavour and the new one.
@@justinwhite2725 i work at a movie theater and we have this issue. sometimes we can't really clean out the machine properly so the coke flavor that we switch out can get mixed with the special flavor. weirdly enough when we put in the mystery flavor icee, we switched it out with the cherry so for a few days we couldn't tell what the flavor was.
Well I think it's more trying to appeal to the "you're so special" part of the brain where they try to appeal to the fact that people think they will be the chosen one who can guess it while millions can't
Fun fact from a movie theater employee who deals with the soda machines Matt references while making his guess as to the flavor combo; we do have flavor cartridges that add flavor options to every drink in the machine, but blueberry is not one of the options. We have grape cartridges, and lime cartridges, but no blue in the rainbow of flavors.
Does your theater also sell it in its icee form?
@@kiebahow442 no, we have different stuff for icees. The flavors are in these plastic bags stored in cardboard boxes, they’re really heavy, but then they’re placed on a shelf where they’re hooked up to a tube that connects to our icee machines, it’s all done behind concession stands in the back kitchen area

@@jpazar6742I think there’s a genetic anomaly that causes some people to find that cilantro tastes like soap.
I’ve never heard of it being the same with ginger, but maybe they’re wondering if that genetic anomaly might apply to ingredients in Diet Coke too?

I thought about that too. And he said the same about Coke zero so maybe it comes from the artificial sweeteners. I have issues with how those taste too but I never thought about classifying it as soap although it definitely ruins the flavour and leaves a lingering bitter aftertaste. It's weird when I first taste it though. And then I'll also have a migraine the next day so I'll pass on these drinks.
And yes, I do think koriander (cilantro) does smell like soap and in larger amounts I taste it too. my brother does too. We clearly have the gene in our family somewhere.
But I do enjoy ginger.
Or did he have COVID at some point because my SO has complained about a lot of sodas (especially cola and citrus based sodas) as tasting like soap since having the Rona.
It still cracks me up that blue raspberry isnt a real thing but its such a defined flavor
I always just assumed it was the same thing as regular raspberry, but colored blue for candy so that it wouldn't be confused with cherry.
@@BlueSparxLPs Not really, it's more tangy, harder and somewhat berry like. In some cases it feels like what you imagine battery acid to taste like if it were a kind of food like thing.
Just like how broccoli isn't a real vegetable but it's treated like it always was one.

If you guys do this again next year, maybe have half the team not look at it before they taste it! If last year they colored it blue and it tasted like orange creamsicle, maybe they try to use color to trick you into thinking of flavors that normally match the color of the drink

In Australia we have a drinks company named Bundaberg that successfully sells a Sarsaparilla (ie. licorice flavoured). It is popular in our household, and the oldest in our house is 41.

okay so the process of figuring out the flavor was pretty cool, that was fun, but I find myself just *so happy* for matt that he gets to have two things he loves collide in the best way, airup and cola. like, seriously, that's so freaking great for him, and I hope that helps him with backing down off of so many sodas all the time. he's been prioritizing his health a lot and that's great, but still, those *can't* have been good for him to have so much of. I hope these pods do him, and many others, a lot of good. ☺💖

Thanks! My Aunt and Uncle have this at their house and I was scared to try it, now that I know what it is, I know I will like it and then I can drink it (I prefer diet drinks over full sugar ones) and they have it in diet there. Can't wait to try it
update: It's actually really good. I can taste the raspberry and the citrus but also it DOES have that afternote of snowcone syrup/melted mixed slurpie

I don't think the San Pellegrino will taste that similar to the Fanta since the San Pellegrinos are way more concentrated juice so they have way more kick to them (or atleast the lemon one does)

I too am ashamedly addicted to diet soda. as a type 1 diabetic for the past almost 25 years it's been one of my main go to drinks. i'm just like matpat but i need my diet coke flavored. and thankfully air up is doing just that and giving us one of the best ones. i might need to buy this immediately
Last time Fanta had a mystery flavour competition in Canada I worked at a gas station. When we got our delivery from Coca Cola, the order form literally said “Fanta Mystery (dragonfruit)” lol

Closest America's had is those "Coca Cola lab" flavors that come out as a "Mystery Flavor" - though they get labeled stuff like "Space" and "Dream"

I think it depends on what is more popular in the region in question, Fanta is more popular in Europe since it's a German brand, whereas Mountain Dew has the flavor profile thing going for it in the Us

The fanta mystery flavors are often enough actually not bad imo. One of the three pink ones some time ago was dragonfruit and one was mango-passionfruit if I remember right, that was great!

I think Fanta is the only product that I've NOT seen a "mystery flavour" version in local stores. Even had a 500ml of mystery flavour MILK (which was possibly strawberry cheesecake).
We just had "seasonal flavor" milk here. Very reminiscence to the blue milk you see in Star Wars. Tastes like cotton candy or the milk after a bowl of lucky charms.

As someone in food service and has a coke freestyle machine, I had the exact same thought. Another thing you can do is take out certain flavors and if the fanta flavor "greys out" after removing the flavor cartridge, you can identify which flavors are in the soda

That San Pellengrino flavour is VERY popular in pubs and restaurants in the UK, i'm sure if you have connections over here, you'll be able to get your hands on one very easily.

I wasn't even aware of any yearly flavors for carbonated beverages. I don't really buy such drinks (because drinking them in PAIN), but most fancy flavors aren't even around where I live.

I once spoke to a coke cola rep a few years a ago whilst I worked in a pub and he was telling that those make your own machines in America save all the mixtures people make and test them for new flavours , he also told me about they were making new cola just for whisky and other spirits and a few months later they came out

Fanta has been doing mystery flavours in the UK for at least a decade. I remember them doing it when I was 15ish and i'm 28 now.

A guy who worked for coke once told me all the Creation flavors and the Mystery Flavors tend to be the most popular mixes from the coke freestyle There is actually data that is sent to coke. He did slightly tell me what the mix for starlight was but also said it wouldn't be exactly correct if I tried to make it at the machine since coke goes in a tweaks it for the releases

I think the Voodew reveal was a trick because it does NOT taste anything like airheads nor the cherry one. It tastes (to me at least) like the nerd ropes or more the aftertaste does.
P.S. I don't drink many sodas and brush my tongue regularly so my palate is very *click* noice 👌

If I had judged just from your descriptions of a flavor I would have gone a very different guess.
I don't know if it exists in the USA, but here in Brazil some candies have a "flavor" named "tutti-frutti", which is... Basically a mix of fruit flavors.
It exists in the USA, but it's not very common. More recently it is the name of a chain of frozen yogurt shops, so using it as a flavor name has gotten more complicated and using the flavor name has mostly been ditched in favor of things like "fruit punch". But actually much of the history of the flavor and all its variants is from the USA. I believe it was invented by Italian immigrants to the USA in the 1800s.

Oh, I didn't know the MD Voo Dew changed. Ive only had the one last and this year and just thought it was skittles like last year when I thought the same thing. I just like it being so sweet and a treat i can only get around this time.

I work at zaxbys, and we have the coke freestyle machine, what I observed on the sides of the cup after dispensing, was splashes of green, orange, purple and green. Fun fact pineapple is now available for Fanta and hi c, even funner fact, the blueberry mix in is colorless.
Dude I was in France when the original mystery Fanta dropped, and I was fascinated by it, but it was super hard to find. My poor roommate, who doesn't like soda, was super confused when I'd get really excited when I'd find it somewhere.
I actually first tried this soda from one of those Coke machines, I saw it used orange and green syrups and my drink ended up more of a tamarind brown and tasted more like a weak sprite

You can sort of make your own if you mix Jagermeister and club soda. Fentiman's also sells a Burdock and Dandelion soda that gives a licorice vibe, although it reminds me a bit more of cough syrup than licorice outright.
I think if it had real licorice theyd need to put a warning though due to the whole risk of death by over consumption of licorice.

When I saw it in the store, I assumed it was grape flavored when I picked it up, but saw it was "zero sugar" and immediately put it back, so I'm interested to hear what it tastes like.

Not sure if this would be a good idea for a video- I always wonder how seemingly random snacks make as the main airline snacks. For example how it went from simple pretzels and peanuts to specifically lotus biscoff cookies or quinoa chocolates (that was new to me on my last flight). I can’t help but wonder why and how those agreements are reached between airlines and the companies that produce those snacks. Would love to see a video on your take

Thank you for trying this one out... I have a complete taste aversion to every sugar alternative that gets used in these drinks, and it seems like they ONLY do this one in zero sugar.

Here in brazil we got a mystery fanta that is definitely just supposed to be apple cinnamon pie. It got that dish cleaner apple smell and got a bit of a kick at the end so they were def trying to imitate it, which is strange? Cause we dont have a tradition of eating pies at Halloween since we dont even celebrate it(sadly).
That is actually my preferred flavour of San Pellegrino 😅 Very much sold in Canada at big box stores - not limited edition or anything
