  • In this video I'll explain five tips or good habits that anyone trying to become the best AoE4 player they can be should implement sooner rather than later in their game:
    1- Proper use of control groups
    2- Proper use of camera locations
    3- Shift Key
    4- Idle Military Key
    5- Placement of hotkeys according to use
    Feel free to ask any specific questions in the comments!
    Shout-out to IWPatrick for doing the video thumbnail!

    I knew about the other ones but using the patrol function plus idle military key instead of select all military to leave out some units away from the frontline never even crossed my mind.
    I had this exact issue where I was making units on the edges of the map in Altaí to protect my flanks but I kept selecting those units by mistake and sending them to fight, so It just became a less efficient way of producing units in the end.
    I'll make sure to use this trick!

    Thank you for the tips! You said that you try to keep you military control groups to only 1-3; any advice on how you set that up when you have an army with many different units types? (Say you have infantry, ranged, cavalry, different siege units, etc.)

    • @LucifroN7
      @LucifroN7  Год назад +2

      I have cavalry in 1, ranged units in 2 and melee infantry in 3. Once the siege deathball gets going I group both cavalry and melee infantry in 1 and use 3 for siege, although it's very rare that I'm still playing cavalry by the time I go heavy into siege.
      Ideally you use 4 CTRL groups, so you can always split them into cavalry/range/melee/siege in a fix way.

    Very useful, thanks. Do you have any tipps on how to bind your mouse buttons? For example, I have the follow binds (don't know the exact names by heart):
    - mousewheel: last attack signal
    - mouse button 4: select all idle vills
    - mouse button 5: return to work (after shelter)
    so that I can quickly push these without using a key on the keyboard. Does that make sense in your eyes, or do do I give up a better usage of the mouse buttons? How are your mouse button binds (I hope I don't ask for internal company secrets😂)? Thanks a lot in advance

    • @LucifroN7

      If you get used to that, I think it's fine. There are world class players in multiple RTS that use mouse buttons for these things (Moon from WC3, for instance)

    Thanks for the video. I like to build a habbit of using control groups more for my units (I already do for my buildings). It's usually all good when I assign control groups at the start of a fight but I have a hard time adding newly produced units to it and at some point, most of the units from the control group will have died already and all the newly built units are just running around headless. How do you constantly keep adding units to the control groups? I saw that you box-selected the horseman and added it, but for the archers, it seems like you CTRL+click your archers, which will also add new archers and then add them all to the control group. Any preference or other tricks? Especially with larger armees and chaos, I just cannot find the new units quickly enough to add them to the existing control groups. Any tips are much appreciated and thanks for the video. I also like you stream.

    • @LucifroN7
      @LucifroN7  Год назад +1

      It can be hard to keep your control groups updated at all times. I'll explain what I usually do with an example. Lets assume I have my archers in control 2, and want to add new ones:
      Press 2.
      CTRL+SHIFT+CLICK in the new group of archers (so that they all get selected in addition to the previous ones).
      Press CTRL+2 with the new selection, so all archers are grouped.
      There's an alternative that some players use, where you use the "Select All Military" key and then CTRL+CLICK in an specific type of unit to reassign the group, but I don't use it myself and in general wouldn't recommend using that key.

    • @peblazquez
      @peblazquez Год назад

      Unless you've changed your keybindings, SHIFT+Number adds units to a certain group.
      For example, if you create Group #1, with 3 archers.
      When new archers are created select them and press SHIFT+1, this would add them to the already existing group (or create the group if it doesn't exist

    • @baloncestojadimi
      @baloncestojadimi Год назад +1

      SI te refieres a seleccionar todas las unidades de un mismo tipo no me suena que haya nigún shortcut. Lo que sí que puedes hacer es cuando has seleccionado un grupo de control es mantener el shift e ir seleccionando a las unidades que quieres añadir a ese grupo de control, y añadir de nuevo ese grupo de control, de tal forma que tienes por ejemplo 5 arqueros seleccionados al grupo de control 2, al hacer otro arquero pulsas el 2, tienes seleccionado los 5 arqueros, pulsas shift y seleccionas el nuevo arquero creado, teniendo 6 arqueros en el grupo de seleccion actual, haciendo ctrl+2 vuelves a reasignar este grupo de control con los 6 arqueros, y así con todo.

    • @LucifroN7
      @LucifroN7  Год назад +2

      La respuesta que te da Jaime me parece perfecta, hago exactamente lo que él te ha comentado.
      La única alternativa que ni uso ni recomiendo, pero que otros jugadores profesionales sí usan, es utilizar la tecla de "Seleccionar todo el ejército" única y exclusivamente para rehacer tus grupos de control. Presionas la tecla, haces CTRL+Click en el tipo de unidad que quieras seleccionar (Por ejemplo, todos los caballeros), y reasignas el control.

    I usually use the "select all barracks" and "select all archery ranges" hotkeys. I realize pros don't do that and instead use control groups. But are the "select all barracks" hotkeys really that bad? I know there can be some cases where you don't want to use certain barracks because they are too far away, but I feel like that's a very rare case and can only happen in the late game.

    • @LucifroN7
      @LucifroN7  Год назад +3

      I'm not too against those hotkeys. In addition to the issue you mention, it's also not too rare that sometimes your production won't be safe from every single building. By using CTRL groups you can easily unbind the unsafe buildings from your CTRL group to make sure you are not constantly producing units that are immediately getting killed, whereas with the "Select all X" keys you can't. Using CTRL groups gives you more flexibility, therefore I'd suggest this method.
      The select all X keys have the obvious benefit of not having to constantly add buildings to CTRL groups, and in most scenarios you will be fine using them.

      @LucifroN7  Год назад

      Nothing too specific. I've noticed a lot of RTS progamers (especially StarCraft 2 progamers) have been switching to wireless mouse due to it giving you absolute freedom in terms of how you move, I'm planning on trying that soon. For the keyboard I think any mechanical keyboard will do.

    Is there some sort of setting that lets you shift attack deer without AoE4 spasming out? When I do it, the game makes some sort of sound repeatedly.

    • @LucifroN7
      @LucifroN7  Год назад

      Hmm not too sure, never had this issue

    • @Nil-js4bf
      @Nil-js4bf Год назад

      @@LucifroN7 I experimented today and found out that I can avoid the issue by just holding shift + right clicking each deer. What I was previously doing was A-clicking a deer, holding shift down, holding A down and the left clicking each deer. AoE4 doesn't seem to like that. I'm used to the latter since that's what I always did in SC2 and feels less risky cause if you misclick on the deer and right click the ground instead, you queued a move command instead of an attack command.

    • @LucifroN7
      @LucifroN7  Год назад

      @@Nil-js4bf Just tested a bit and I see what you mean now. If instead of holding A you just press it once every time you want to queue an additional attack command it shouldn't happen. In this scenario I think using right-click is better, since I prefer my scouts moving a bit more than they should over them attacking a wolf or a random enemy unit when I want them to take the deer.
      For fights I use right-click too because I find it much faster to just spam right clicks, but one has to be careful about units moving forward in case a missclick happens

    • @Nil-js4bf
      @Nil-js4bf Год назад

      @@LucifroN7 Thanks for the detailed reply Lucifron. Someone told me that I can actually just press A once after holding down shift and that works too. I might try that but I'll need to unlearn my habit of holding down A. Or maybe I'll just try right clicking now cause it is easier to do.
