- Welcome to episode 4 of my new guest series, where in each episode features music majors, teachers, professionals or people of other professions watching/reviewing kpop, usually for the first time!
Ep.4 features 2 Eastman School of Music DMs. One is a conductor/composer (and is in charge of ESM's new music ensemble) and the other is a music theory teacher (who has actually taught some of the main series reactors!).

If u haven't listen to South Club - Hug Me please take a time to listen. It will make you feel the exact same feel, yet it's more angsty. I love listening both song in order on rainy days or at night :)

funny story I’m actually a HUGE gfriend fan and the other day (I’m in chamber choir also) we had a choir from New England come in and perform for us. And they also had some solists come up and perform. And one of the soloists sang the song that is featured in Summer Rain!!! I was so shook. I was like “I know this song I know this song!!” But I couldn’t tell anyone how I knew it because none of my friends like kpop. 😭
That is so cool. I want to join a chamber choir too in college. Do you know the process of joining one? I am in a choral option at my school rn, but I would be graduating in three months. Do people have to audition to be in a chamber choir?
The reaction from the conductor for Summer Rain is spot on .. without understanding the lyrics he was able to tell what the song is about

Yeah, Gfriend's powerhouse songs are that for a reason... (Although I still feel MGT was a perfect gem!) But SR has that direct callback to Schumann, which tickled the conductor... So yeah.

I really like how these guys break down and comment primarily on the *chord progressions*. I can get the chord progressions by ear/listening, but they give really interesting insights and observations from their own knowledge and experience. Please make this a series!!

i still amazed that you guys could tell what is going on in the music. what i do is; i hear a song, i like it, i listen to it.

Every moment when I listen to Summer Rain, the harmonies and Yuju's high notes I get goosebumps. It's my second favourite song from them (together with Fingertip) and maybe musically the best decision. IU's dlwlrma has no MV but a very good live recording (ruclips.net/video/nJXW_r5MMeY/видео.html) from her own tour (together with Jam Jam). She is not only interesting as a singer and composer but also as an entertainer. The last one was so beautiful ❤️

Summer Rain by gfriend remains one of their best songs for me. A gfriend classic.

Actually, like School Triology (including Glass Bead, Me gustas tu and Rough), Summer Rain is the part 2 of Girl Love Theory (Love Whisper and Summer Rain). So it will be more interesting if you can see the connections between 2 MV, especially when you have a music theorist 🤣 anyway, thank you so much 😊
Stella Cat wondering if we will get the 3rd part for next comeback or if we can consider Rainbow, because seems right, after the rain and sadness, there comes a rainbow, the lyrics and story goes well, Rainbow should have been a title track too.
snowflake contrail 06 Rainbow is great. Too bad that they didn’t choose it as Aside. Fortunately we still have choreography for it. Anyway, I think we will have the next part of Girl Love Theory. SoMu said before that Gfriend would start another theory after Navillera/Fingertip.

snowflake contrail 06 I wonder that too. I don’t think they will back with powerful girlcrush concept because Fingertip was considered as a ‘flop’ in Korea. But I think they also don’t use girly or cusy like Summer Rain and Love Whisper. Maybe something mysterious girlcrush 🤔
Agree... Rainbow should have been a title track. I can't imagine what concept they'll try next... I just hope it works, and by a miracle, gets them back to 1st-tier popularity again.

It's hard to explain... I barely understand any of the technical terms of course, but it's always lovely to see reactions like these. It's like seeing them geek out or something... this was awesome to watch. Can't wait for part 2!

Would be really interesting if they listened to Gfriend's Love Whisper first before Summer Rain. Both songs have a lot of common chords and progression but are really in contrast of each other. Try listening to Gfriend's b-side called Rainbow. A real masterpiece trust me.
I really love how this channel appreciates Gfriend's songs not basing on the popularity of each songs but its quality. Summer Rain is my favorite because of that classical piece.

Well i think this reaction video is one of the best reaction video by the real musician i've ever seen. They're not only said something good, but they also said their opinion (bad or good) without hurting us as Gfriend,IU and NCT fans 😁
Right! I don't know how careful they were trying to be (to not hurt Koreans & kpop fans) or coached by Umu, but they were excellent! Never said anything bad about our fave groups or anyone at all (unlike the young whippersnappers...) :) Top grades! :) Let's see these two guys again! Love! :)
I agree, they actually know what they are talking about and since they don't know anything they are not biased and they don't let their taste in music influence their thoughts about a good composition. I didn't like the other videos about Gfriend with other commenters (the younger they are the more condescending are their attitudes, these adults are a lot better)
snowflake contrail 06 yes honestly, as a buddy, we expected to other people that didn't know anything about gfriend, watching their mv and listening to their music with a lot of apreciation (not dragging them down). Well, i know since today gfriend is not popular as other ggs from big 3 among western kpop fans.

Awesome episode, I really enjoyed the guest reactors' take. This series also has the added benefit of introducing me to new music, I hadn't heard the last song 'Try Again' before and it sounds really beautiful, and I'm going to look up Schumann's Dichterliebe and Gesualdo as well lol
D.ear and Jaehyun's duet is probably my favourite sm station song. Their voices blend so well together, the sweetness of D.ear's voice and Jaehyun's slight husky voice was absolutely amazing. The melody itself, very beautiful and perfect. Whenever I listen to it, I just feel so relaxed and at peace.
