There's a lot of interpretation but I read this somewhere that IU was sent to different dimension since she went into the time machine she built in YOU & I (2011) and unable to meet Lee Hyun Woo but still conmected in some way. The time machine has a destination date of 12/31/2019. The calendar on the wall also marked this date in "above the time". When LHY moved the hands of the clock to 00:20 am as shown in the drawn watch on his wrist, we saw him and IU reuniting and dancing happily however its only temporary (this maybe true or imagined by LHY). The drawn watch on LHY wrist disappeared and a drawn flower on the palm showed up. LHY, however painful, delivered the ladder to IU in the paper ship going nowhere. And IU was not in the boat at the end of the MV. This could mean that they found a way to get together, or simply decided to move on and let go of each other. Anyway, thanks for your reaction! While I’m aware that some songs are less interesting musically, I believe that you’ll be able to find comfort when you listen to these songs with their lyrics. Love poem follows a pattern that IU really likes, which is starting off lively and personally and ending with a grand song for everyone. Every song is such a magnificent, romantic love poem that needs to be shared.

Above the time. is about iu already reach the time she travels referring to Y&I in the mv she travels to 12/31/2019 through time machine but she was lost in a dimension meaning she was lost about their love because she focus too much about her career that explains the music sheet boat she was in which she's willing to leave at the end of the mv meaning she's now willing to let go of her career to enter their relationship. But around her debut, through 'Good Day', and into 'You and I', I was under the impression that those were more pop-style songs + albums produced and written by other composers and lyricists, with maybe some (50%?, or more, or less?) input from her. And that it was only after the huge success of these songs and albums that she took control of her albums and songwriting and became the beloved master singer-songwriter we know today? (20 Year Old Spring, Modern Times, Palette, etc.) So I wonder, how did this sequel come about? Did she write it herself, or in collaboration with the original writers of 'You and I'? I remember how much of a hit 'You and I' was here back in 2011. I'm a fan but not a super-fan, so I'm genuinely curious from people who know more about this. And I did see her once in concert here in Seoul, buying the very last ticket of the very last seat in the top row of the small "Just One Step... That Much More" Sogang University 2014 concerts. But I think this song might have already been written back around 2017 -- which is fine, but it needed to be released before 2019-12-31 and with everything that happened during that period, it was a very tight schedule.
