Hey so I’ve looked through all the playlists and I didn’t see any mentions of red square so I was wondering if you were gonna react to them at all if not that’s fine just curious
I really love the layers of the song, it makes it so captivating. The members voices feel like they’re not completely there while another voice is present while they sing. Then i feel as though the vocals weren’t the main focus in the song and the instrumental was the underlying focus with the percussion/synths. Also the chorus with the ‘wee-oo-wa-wa-wa-wa’ had the sound of a sort of cult like chant like some sirens/witches. All this just sounds like a fantasy
I can't believe that there are many people saying that the ' wee woo ' part is stupid !... like girl that's the main point of the song ... the album is not called song of the sirens for no reason ...
Who knew that GFriend would surprise us again by making the hook emulate an actual siren LOL. It's so good. The 'wowowowah' alone creates a wavy effect along with the rhythm! I love the background vocals and harmonies that create the atmosphere of the song too, adding to the sway of its temptation. There's one added harmony line in the last chorus that I really enjoy, it's right after Yuju's adlib during SinB's line
It annoys me so much that people don’t like this change. I would rather see their music grow up with them as they grow up than them being stuck doing the same thing from earlier years. I honestly see it as an insult that people want to go back to their school trilogy days like let them grow up! It’s normal for a group to change up look at twice and how they switched up I saw non of their fans complain. It honestly so nice to see their music evolve as the members themselves mature and they worked on this album too buddies should appreciate it more.
I feel like I'm the only who believes this is their style. They didn't grow out of their style but rather expanded and evolved with it. A song that I think is out of their signature sound is fever. But the rest honestly sound like it's THEIR ACTUAL SIGNATURE. Mago is not even out of their spectrum because it includes a genre they've done many times before so I don't know why people especially buddies or outside listeners would say "they've changed" or "they've grown out of it" when really that's not the case.
UMU is me trying to explain that gfriend doesn't just have this overused orchestral sound. Sadly fans wanted them to stick to that like how they did IU. I was a huge fan of Glass beads but loved Fingertips and Sunny Summer/ city pop sound and I love seeing a group jump outbox.
I mean... They overuse the orchestral sound because they kinda trademarked that sound already... They popularized Orchestral KPOP... Apple is just like fingertip was before, gfriend trying something new. They wont entirely stray away from their orchestral sound. You will always see it somewhere in the album. They wont let go of the thing that made them big. Its not the same as IU at all. IU is a soloist, gfriend is a group. Soloist can go from concept to concept every comeback. And unlike gfriend, IU's early songs were her still not knowing what kind of sound she wants as an artist. For gfriend, they established that they are gonna brand themselves as innocent but powerful, while using the orchestral sound as their trademark sound. They try something else from time to time but their sound is already in the mind of people that they cant stray away from it anymore. It will always be part of them as a group. Apple is really an attempt of them trying to gain new fans, because im pretty sure the old fans will not like Apple as much as their older tracks. Look at the newer fans, like all the Army that only started listening to gfriend since crossroads promotions. They preferred labyrinth more because its mainstream but long time fans like crossroads more because gfriend already have the niche of fans that like the specific sound that gfriend established since their debut
Actually buddy support this concept & their change. In fact, the only thing that didn't really do well is the chart which is up to the general public especially with the new system that fans can't do much to increase it because we're not THAT big.
@@googogaccaudjs9157 well of course buddy support them for whatever they do, but u can’t deny the fact that despite getting into big hit labels, the old song is much better imo, apple’s views are not even surpassing their previous releases. Yeah I thought 80s UK synth pop as well. For some reason, the reverb arpeggiated guitar and overall sound reminded me of Depeche Mode... very moody and dark. I think this song is the standout out & doesn’t really fit in with the rest of the tracks on their album.
@@slalomie I agree. It's not even a dig on Gfriend themselves but like this track is obviously the route they need to keep exploring for further expansion as musical artists. Don't know why some of their fans don't want them to change. I guess not everyone's musical tastes will be the same (obviously) but this track in contrast to the rest of the album really shows me their untapped potential.
Yesss!! I heard a bit of inspiration from George Michael in this especially in the final chorus. 80s UK New Wave is definitely the feeling i get from this song!
Yes I agree with Kevin this song is a shock for a fan of their previous songs because it is a departure from the cutesy concept and distinctive voices to a more darker fantasy like tone... I liked the song though don't get me wrong it is pretty good overall and I like that 80's influence of this....
At their times, Fever was seen as a maturing of their concept and even Sowon remarked that Crossroads was a throwback to an earlier concept. In that context, Crossroads is a departure while Apple is an evolution from Fever.
@@elsjza1298 Maybe they wanted more variety. They like their earlier style but still want to be able to try new sounds too, and not just be confined to just one genre.
I’ve never been super into gfriend just because they’ve never been my personal taste but this song just blew me away. It’s so mature and is so rich in texture, and that guitar is just *chef’s kiss*! I’m sure this will make it into my top tracks of the year
I think there are two (main) sets of eyes to this song: - Gfriend fans who were used to their natural essence who were wonder shocked by this absolutely magnificent song. - Big Hit fans who are supporting Gfriend as they are family and listening to this song with the same essence as "On", "Black Swan", "Can't you see me?" And "Puma". Like they're working a mould to unite them all in a way. Overall, the song is so good it deserves so many awards and recognition.
I can totally feel Isaac for like 2hours of listening the song but like after that 2hrs I be like we o yayayaya on top of my lungs and trying to hit the part "ibamiya"
10:38 gfriend usually has music that shows the color of their voices clearly, making live performances and recorded tracks similar. The only issue I have with Apple is that gfriend's vocal color is not as prominent as with previous titles. Gfriend can try different styles but I can say "this is gfriend" when their voices are distinct (and different from other groups). I love everything else about the comeback: the witch/siren concept, makeup, styling, the sensual and alluring but not sexy dancing style that embodies the feminine confidence of girl crush concepts.
I feel like a lot of people that think apple is a huge leap from their previous songs only listen to tittle tracks. Gfriend has experiment a lot with b-sides and they've been dark since summer rain, their lyrics, visuals and sound has taken dark turns before. Say my name it's on snowflake album, which is their 3rd album and it was dark, also rough was rather dark. Gfriend always had a certain nostalgic, tragic and downright sad aspect to their songs, to the point I feel like even their happy songs have a hint of sadness. Maybe I just don't get what people mean by dark? But I truly think that even tho apple is different it's still undeniable a gfriend song
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that way. Kinda shocked me that especially buddies would think this way. If you went through all their albums you would definitely know that this is in fact a Gfriend song. I just think they expanded and evolved their style, but change? I disagree.
Now that BigHit acquired Source Music, this song reminds me of TXT’s magical sound (Runaway) but more mature than the boys. Also like this is Gfriend’s coming-of-age transition from the iconic guitar upbeat sounds we’ve associated Gfriend with. Also the weowowowo part sounds super familiar I haven’t found where it’s from ;-;
Could the weeohhwawawawa be related to a Brown Eyed Girls song? I thought GFRIEND's Apple was very reminiscent of the discography and style of these two groups BEG and SHINee (upon my very first time listen of the song!)
I dislike blaming people for not recognizing songs .... but in this case , I won't forgive people ( they had a great feedback internationally with this comeback , but not the best in korea ) for sleeping on this .... this is such a gem among what Is going on in kpop right now , so unique .... and it's quite interesting to me that they still have the Gfriend sound although the song is SO different from anything they've done before . And SOTS is gfriend's best album to date , I've been listening to them since Navillera era and as the biggest buddy , I can say that they have a bunch of great songs on their albums but there are some rushed songs in there but this one .... SO GOOD ... the songs are actually musically rich , I love this... thanks for your reaction ! And feel really good that you understand the connection between the song and the concept so well !
The sound(Hooh-Wooh) created when Eunha fell, idk how to call it, is used throughout the song and for me that is what captivates me to the song like that sound is calling to me, like a siren.
Me too! Song of the Sirens is the second part of a trilogy that started with Labyrinth if I’m not mistaken. So I’m really excited to see what they’ll do with the third album! Although I don’t think we’ll get it this year
i'd really happy what kevin and issac think about their new concept which is *goodesses and witches* , cos he's buddy and really into gfriend music cos the string and orchestra instrument, i hope he like it and dont hate gfriend cos the changing concept, cos this is imo only a rabbit test for the next comeback / some in the future, im really shock at first but now im try to used to hear it, 😢
Is just my personal opinion... he looks like old school buddy that dont want Gfriend change but at the same time in a previous reactions he said that he wanted something diferent... we need keep on mind that they aren´t childs/kids anymore and they can´t to continue with the innocent concept forever... slowly GFriend have been giving us something diferent and more fresh and mature... basically they took something from the girls crush, sexy and dark concepts for create their own version... Laberyinth & Apple are diferent a bit more mature, sensual and for me very elegant specially Apple... and their vocals... every comeback they have been doing it better vocally...
@@charliebrown373 I don't think changing their sound is maturing, I mean gfriend was different they didn't need the "bad ass" or "sexy" to sell. It was based on music not personality, you can do a mature concept without giving up your sound. You don't need the innocence, just keep your sound. Twice is also doing the same thing and being honest with you they are trying something more appealing to American audiences and that is not the way. Americans have enough American music.
@@jessietigres gfriend tends to ignore comments saying that gfriend doesnt need to change. They have the mindset of trying to improve. Most artists dont produce the same sound over and over again, overbearing companies do that. Twice wanted to change their sound for the longest time. Gfriend has wanted to change too. Only the title track apple is drastically different. The other tracks in song of siren have sounds that old fans will like.
Need whole album listen! There's 6 genres in the album!!! My fav track is Tarot Cards. Cause im one of those fans that loves their anime sound gfriend. I fell in love the moment I hear it! Apple focus on general public but still put in gfriend sound. It sounds and looks different but it's gfriend indeed. While the other songs in the album are like from different eras. Or let's just say they put in genre songs that they've done, one each onto the album. It's kinda amazing if you're a hardcore buddy, you can actually point out which era was that song reminds you of.
THE PAINTING ON THE RIGHT at 1:40 in the mv is “Les Hasards Heureux de l’Escarpolette” by Jean-Honoré Fragonard. Also at 2:21 and 2:36, this painting is known for its depiction of lust and temptation behind its rococo and rosy atmosphere, not a coincidental choice. Notice that the white outfits ressemble the Greek Vestals costumes in Antiquity. Such a masterpiece!✨
i loveeeee the old sound of gfriend but this new sound is growing on me. but i love seeing how gfriend grows up, like they don't just suddenly have mature concepts. they actually took their time slowly so we don't really feel the change. it's just like seeing your child growing up, you don't notice them that much but when you look back, you realize how much they've mature. and its definitely a good feeling c:
And fun fact : the main producer of the song is Frants , who has produced many songs for Sunmi ( pporappippam , black pearl , siren ...) and Eternally for txt .... the sirens sound in the song reminds me of the humming in txt's eternally , and the base guitar and the modal mixture is present in some sunmi songs :D
Ohhh no wonder I felt some sunmi vibes in there especially from Porappipam 🤧 But seriously the layers od this song and the instrumentals are so well done and Gfreinds' vocals just complemented the whole production 💜
Have you listened to the rest of the album? I really enjoyed it, there’s so many vocal harmonies and explorations and I think the instrumentals are all amazing as well :D there are jpop , 2nd gen/ kdrama, video game, anime, and 2000s vibes. I really loved listening to the album for the first time, I was in awe😭 I really enjoyed the reaction :) I was a bit worried at first because I thought you might find the instrumental too repetitive but the way you unpacked everything makes the song seem 10x cooler
I bet the j pop is Tarot Cards, k drama is Room of Mirrors, anime is Eye of the Storm, and 2000s is Stairs in the North. Also yes SOTS has one of the best B sides in the whole Gfriend discography
It's inevitable that some people will like the change and some people won't - isn't that the definition of change? I'm sure Gfriend lost and gained some fans with this era. What annoys me is the people who complain that there is no change and then complain when the change happens. There are probably 2-3 artists who can change their genres and still retain a majority of their fanbase - it's v rare. I'm glad Gfriend got to try a number of different styles before they disbanded and I think each member of the group shined at different points. Also appreciate their progression was more natural and not sporadicly changing all the time - excited to see what VIVIZ and Yuju are going to provide in 2022!
There's something I'm sure of after listening to this song. Some singers use their voices like instruments. They control the fine tremor of their breathing to express emotions that do not appear in the sheet music. I was sure in the bridge part of EUNHA. She's a musical instrument.
Finally, I've been waiting for your reaction. In my opinion, the first time heard it, I got shocked because of the significant changes in the concept and the sound (in good meaning). But I impressed with the song structure and slowly accept this new sound after several times hear it again. Although I become Buddy a bit late (around Sunrise era), I have enough time to hear all their songs to think there are people misunderstand about "GFRIEND sound". For me, the summer concept always a timepoint that GFRIEND tries to change their concept or redefine the "GFRIEND sound" term. For specific, before TFTMN, many people said that their songs always have the guitar sound in breakdance parts. But after TFTMN, they said that "GFRIEND sound" is orchestra pop with specific string lines. But, if we pay attention, there Sunny Summer, Fever, and now is Apple, they always try to explore more faces of their "GFRIEND sound".
I really liked this song, though it does feel a little less musically-interesting to me. (However, that’s not a criticism of the song/video as a whole, just a preference.)
The members helped with composing and writing for this album :D I forgot which parts members wrote, I only remember that eunha wrote the bridge for Apple
This song reminds me so much of Sting's "Brand New Day" - the rythmic feeling of the song and the progression. Hope I'm not the only one thinking that way :)
Thanks for doing this reaction! I love to hear the analysis and see what fellow musicians pick up on. I think my favorite part is the second verse where the melody is minor but directly overlaid on that oscillating base which stays in the parallel major. Awesome!
It’s always nice to hear another person’s perspective especially if they specialize in music. It just gives more depth and meaning to the song. That’s why channels like these deserves a lot more recognition!! ❤️
Thank you for reacting to it. Also so cool that you guys have different thoughts, different perspectuve. I'm kinda agree with Isaac though. I need some time to let the song grows in me :)
Apple was my first introduction into Gfriend and I needed more. Such a shame that they weren't able to pursue this concept any further because of Source Music's decisions, but I'm so glad I found them anyway. I never stanned them, but Apple is ear candy to me and it's one of my favorite songs of all time. Not Kpop songs, but songs period. It scratches my brain in a way I can't describe.
I'm fast! Every heard about this channel reaction, my respect toward the GFriend creative music team increase SO MUCH. Thankyou for educating with the nice way!
I love your reactions. I was excited for this video! But I understand that due to the current situation, it's hard to film and everything has to be done via video call, so I'm grateful for these vids. :D
I've been waiting for your reaction since the mv released. Finally.. Cause imo, you understand Gfriend's musics more than other reactors I gotta say. *I wrote comments before watching your reaction
Yayyyyy I’ve been waiting for your reaction to this... Thank you for liking the song!! Hopefully, you could react to their more familiar sound with their BSIDES... The whole EP is basically a masterpiece, they’re all so different in a good way... 😍🥰 STAY SAFEEEEE
For me the fantasy almost sensual sound reminds me of Fei’s Fantasy, but more lively in a sense? It definitely took a few listens but Gfriend def pull off this concept.
Umu my friends and i were discussing that this song really reminds us of something from the 80s or 90s that we can't put our finger on. like I can hear it in my head it's driving me crazy
The song is written and produced by BigHit front-men PD Bang and pdogg (among others), who are behind so much of BTS' output. And the MV is directed by the Lumpens crew, who have made most of BTS' most memorable videos. Ring a bell? Seen any butterflies and apples lately? Would you agree that the song is in the key of E? It sounds to me like an E(sus4>3)-Am9-D(sus4>3) progression, which would be I-iv-bVII. What is that? E minor with the root replaced by a major chord (with dominant 7th)? Or E major (dom7), borrowing the iv and bVII from the minor key? Both? Something else? Are there many K-pop songs lacking a V? Is this some kind of Mixolydian with a iv? ###
I was a fan of Fingertip and not so much a fan for their signature sound but this Comeback really made me a fan, I'm sure for their buddies it was a shook, it'll be interesting to see the path they continue on 👍

- Gfriend fans who were used to their natural essence who were wonder shocked by this absolutely magnificent song.
Issac looks like he's just been told "Santa isn't real" lol.
Girl i- 👁️👄👁️

so true .. poor him
Lol 😭
FAVORITE GFRIEND SONG AAAAAAHHHH!!!!!
ITS LIKE.... THIS SONG IS FOR GFRIEND AS PSYCHO IS FOR RED VELVET KDKSKENDJWKWK
So... mediocre?
leoleo more like one of the best songs ever made in kpop history 🥳
@@dape5244 It's literally one of their worst title tracks, it's so bland omg
leoleo idk about that one but to all their own i guess 🥴
@@dape5244 I'm a Russian Roulette supremacist
I disagree.
Now that BigHit acquired Source Music, this song reminds me of TXT’s magical sound (Runaway) but more mature than the boys. Also like this is Gfriend’s coming-of-age transition from the iconic guitar upbeat sounds we’ve associated Gfriend with. Also the weowowowo part sounds super familiar I haven’t found where it’s from ;-;
hera o I didn’t know about that, but I had some speculations since they’re in the same company now
Could the weeohhwawawawa be related to a Brown Eyed Girls song? I thought GFRIEND's Apple was very reminiscent of the discography and style of these two groups BEG and SHINee (upon my very first time listen of the song!)
@@12323Michelle It's a HYBE UNIVERSE thing 😅
I’ve never clicked so fast!
Thank you for taking the time out to listen and break down “Apple” and for giving your honest feedback on it. 😊
The sound(Hooh-Wooh) created when Eunha fell, idk how to call it, is used throughout the song and for me that is what captivates me to the song like that sound is calling to me, like a siren.
my favorite gfriend comeback to date. i hope they continue to evolve and do more like this
Me too! Song of the Sirens is the second part of a trilogy that started with Labyrinth if I’m not mistaken. So I’m really excited to see what they’ll do with the third album! Although I don’t think we’ll get it this year
i'd really happy what kevin and issac think about their new concept which is *goodesses and witches* , cos he's buddy and really into gfriend music cos the string and orchestra instrument, i hope he like it and dont hate gfriend cos the changing concept, cos this is imo only a rabbit test for the next comeback / some in the future, im really shock at first but now im try to used to hear it, 😢
Wow you guys react to two Gfriend release in one year, WICH NEVER HAPPEN OMG THANK YOU
3:11 GIRL OPEN YOUR EYES 😭
sameee!!! she missed the highlight of the mv lol.
Its fine, they dont react much about the mv but focuses on the melody and instrumentalities
@@yewonmylife4178 if she opened her eyes she would definitely scream i tell yah
I would like to know Kevin's opinion as well, did he listen to it? did he love it?? hate it??
He’s been crazy busy lately, but I’ll message him to see what he thinks :)
Charlie Brown I think you’re referring to Isaac (the one in the video)
yessss been waiting!!!! this is an underrated masterpiece
I love the “Like SinB” sudden insert. Hahaha yeeeez. STAN KWEEN SINB, STAN GFRIEND 😍👸🏻
YEEEESSSS! I'm glad I'm early, I loved this comeback so much. It's great and so different, I'm getting addicted to GFRIEND
Isaac is my favorite reactor I think, he's got such a soft spoken cerebral approach to music
i loveeeee the old sound of gfriend but this new sound is growing on me. but i love seeing how gfriend grows up, like they don't just suddenly have mature concepts. they actually took their time slowly so we don't really feel the change. it's just like seeing your child growing up, you don't notice them that much but when you look back, you realize how much they've mature. and its definitely a good feeling c:
the way you guessed the concept was temptation just from the album name im
I hope you'll react to Song of the Sirens too! Because the album is OG GFriend sound.
I really like how you explain each terms of music. Basically that's what I do every time to open the caption then google it lol
this whole album is art TT!!!! I LOVEEED IT
Have you listened to the rest of the album?
@@Youarekenough you’re right ;)
thank you for the gfriend reaction! it's fun to hear the different perspective to the songs as this was quite a change for gfriend!
When I listen to this song, I feel like floating in the air.
I really liked this song, though it does feel a little less musically-interesting to me. (However, that’s not a criticism of the song/video as a whole, just a preference.)
Same
Totally
Same.
I love this kind of reaction when they pay a attention to little details 🥰🥰
Thank you so much!
The members helped with composing and writing for this album :D I forgot which parts members wrote, I only remember that eunha wrote the bridge for Apple
Yes was waiting for this reaction :) Will you guys be doing an album listen for Song of the Sirens?
This song reminds me so much of Sting's "Brand New Day" - the rythmic feeling of the song and the progression. Hope I'm not the only one thinking that way :)
The bridge is written and composed by Eunha
Yes you already react to Apple❤️
Thanks for doing this reaction! I love to hear the analysis and see what fellow musicians pick up on. I think my favorite part is the second verse where the melody is minor but directly overlaid on that oscillating base which stays in the parallel major. Awesome!
한글자막 떴네요 !! 감사합니다 ㅜㅜ
I highly recommend you to listen the whole album. Every song in the album is extremely beautiful and has this gfriend kind of sound❤️
I WAS WAITIN FOR THISSSSSS
I'm fast! Every heard about this channel reaction, my respect toward the GFriend creative music team increase SO MUCH. Thankyou for educating with the nice way!
UMU, ISAACCCCC I was waiting for y’all to react to this!! 😭😭❤️ ILY GUYS
Thank you so much ....and loved it ....waited for you guys to react and yayyyayyYy
Aaaaa thank you! I have been waiting for this video
*I wrote comments before watching your reaction
yas, i'm waiting for this🔥
Yayyyyy I’ve been waiting for your reaction to this... Thank you for liking the song!! Hopefully, you could react to their more familiar sound with their BSIDES... The whole EP is basically a masterpiece, they’re all so different in a good way... 😍🥰 STAY SAFEEEEE
I was waiting for you guys to react to it! Isaac is such a buddy.
I was expecting this so hard!!! Thank you 🥺❤️❤️❤️
Being waiting~ thank you for the reaction.
Apple just sounds mysterious and dangerous.
UMUUU now you really are the expert in kpop! You understand it very well is amazing!
Thank you for reacting!!
OMG Finally~ thanks for reacting to GFriend again!~^^
Appreciated your opinion guys..,Yes, this song is different from their previous song..A departure to a new GFRIEND sounding maybe
i waited for this!!!!
Petition for mago reaction 🥺🙏
will u be reacting to the rest of the album??? all the songs are really different from their usual b-sides i think
nope, the only different are cream brulee and apple, the rest are very gfriend in terms of instrumentation. you know, the anime-ish vibe.
FINALLY XD
the B side is soo good too, the Gfriend old sound, tftmn - crossroad sound and even zico jazzy sound~
I literally just listened to the song in full for the first time seconds ago. I love the new sound!
I've been waiting for this, thanks for the video
For me the fantasy almost sensual sound reminds me of Fei’s Fantasy, but more lively in a sense? It definitely took a few listens but Gfriend def pull off this concept.
Isac is Back. Thanks Umu for inviting Isac. Hehe❤️❤️❤️
Umu my friends and i were discussing that this song really reminds us of something from the 80s or 90s that we can't put our finger on. like I can hear it in my head it's driving me crazy
These two are the BEST reactors

I was a fan of Fingertip and not so much a fan for their signature sound but this Comeback really made me a fan, I'm sure for their buddies it was a shook, it'll be interesting to see the path they continue on 👍
It was like a kick to the nuts for the buddies, you could see it in Isaac's face.
Bang PD and Pdogg produced this track and some members of GFriend actually helped write the lyrics for this...
Been waiting for your reaction. Thank you!!! I know you will notice that too. 1:34
I've had this song on repeat for weeeeks!
I've never been this early, omg!!!!!
is so good, i love what gfriend did, its different from anything else

Yeyyy Been waiting for this 🖤
I've been waiting for ur reaction 😭
I’m so early lol. Excited for this!
Great song and great reaction! I really want to see you guys react to the rest of the album, especially Stairs in the North. My ears keep reporting slightly off-pitched notes in there but idk if it's my problem XD
