Finally!!

Lust - Obsession with attention
Gluttony - Obsession with pleasure
Greed - Obsession with wealth
Sloth - Obsession with avoidance
Wrath - Obsession with justice
Envy - Obsession with others
Pride - Obsession with the self
Well that's one interpretation of it...
That’s a really good analysis of each sin
the sins are pretty much just different variations of one thing; desire.
lust- desire for anything you want (sex, money, power)
sloth- desire to stagnate and do nothing
gluttony- desire for overindulgence
greed- desire for everything
envy- desire for what others have
pride- desire in showing oneself
wrath- desire in taking out rage on another
im not sure "attention" really fits lust very well but other than that they fit. lust just means desire, which is similar to greed but has less to do with quantity or possession, its more of an obsessive drive for one specific thing, often sex, but like the video said you can be lustful for anything.
@@kaelang12 I prefer this interpretation, and it is also what Buddhists advocate: that desire is the root of all "sin" and all suffering.
Cool. Please do the "Seven Heavenly Virtues" too. They're not talked about nearly enough.
Cause they are lame and nobody cares about them
Funny enough, I've never heard of them. I didn't know it was a thing.
@@MattandSadieBug Humility for Pride. Patience for Wrath. Chastity for Lust. Dueiligence for Sloth. Kindness for Envy. Charity for Greed. And Temperance for Glottoney.

I was in love with the stories of the sins and virtues as a kid. Found them fascinating. It was the only reason i ever read the bible. I never liked the new testament version.
I am not religious at all. But found the lore of angels, demons etc very very cool.
Still do.
1 greed 2 lust 3 sloth
4 wrath 5 pride 6 envy
7 gluttony
and worst of them all
*8 not knowing the sponsor*
I know what you are really doing with the 8th sin. But you are making a good point of there being an 8th sin.
The want for more knowledge. Which cast Adam and Eve out of the garden. Some things are best not knowing.
@@danielgodfrey4415 “The want for more knowledge” has led our very breakthrough in everything. Since the first wheel to know building houses powered by solar energy. “The want for Knowledge” or Curiosity ain’t a sin.
I heard from somewhere that the 8th is something similar to not being confident
Sloth is by far the best of all sins.
Firstly and foremost, because it prevents you from committing all the other 6.
Edit: Thanks for the likes, people!
You are out of line😂😂😂 but accurate.
😂😂
Not wrong there..
Satan: I’ve created the laziest person in the world, now we will

At least... Sloth is harmless That's good.
Pride is The worse one

As in hubris, or self-righteousness, not pride as in acceptance of the lgbtq community.
@@RowanWarren78 the lgbt community is represented by banks, all international corporations, schools, govt, media, movies, etc... it's not about acceptance at all. Pride has made the lgbt movement put 15 flags at the self checkout. Pride has made the movement turn into government authoritarianism. Pride makes anything it touches ego. Instead of acceptance it's bow something really weird. If I was gay I would be afraid of the pride movement. Do you see how pride warps intentions?

One reason these sins are so well known is because there are misconceptions about them.
Lust isn't merely desire. In fact, we have a modern word for it. Objectification. Viewing another human being with thoughts and feelings as merely an object for your own (insatiable) gratification.
Envy isn't merely wanting something someone else has. It's resenting and even hating the person who has that thing you want.
Gluttony isn't merely "eating too much." It's overconsumption of not just food, but also drink, drugs, sex, etc. to the point where you hurt not only yourself (health issues) but others (withholding food from the hungry).
Sloth isn't merely laziness. It's excessive self-pity sometimes (though not always) combined with an unwillingness to do what needs to be done (like taking care of your kids).
Greed isn't merely hoarding wealth. It's being willing to do anything and cross any line to get that wealth.
Wrath isn't merely anger. It's violence that goes out of its way to horrifically if not kill somebody.
Pride isn't merely an inflated ego. It's selfish ambition, and the mother of all the other sins on the list, the idea that "only I and my desires matter in the end. Everyone else can go screw it."
The last definition of Pride reminds me of Griffith from Berserk.
He really sacrificed everyone for his own ambition.
1. Pride = Sometimes refers to Selfishness but also refers to someone with too much Self-Conception rather than putting it aside for Others.
2. Greed = Not always about Money, everything related with Materialism or vast Knowledge would consider a Desire to do anything to achieve it.
3. Lust = Not always about Love and Seducion. It's also refers the Deep desire for something or maybe refers to Bloodlust, a Desire to murder someone.
4. Wrath = An Intense Hatred, Rage, & Vengeance which would stoke the Fire inside someone, even starting a War or Battle.
5. Envy = Many others believe it was a Form of Jealousy while actually it was also refers to resentment toward others or Something that attract it's attention.
6. Gluttony = While others believe that Gluttony refers to food, comitting a Canibalism can be considered a Sin. Since you have a Hunger that never been satisfied you can't stop but eat.
7. Sloth = While Sloth refers to Not carrying anything it can also refers to someone who doesn't care about other people who care for him/her and sway them of like an ordinary pawn, which are the form of Laziness.
'Se7en'... one of my all time favorite movies.

If you do the 7 virtues, I hope you add about how they can be taken too far and it becomes self-abuse. Like being so chaste you deny yourself any sort of pleasure. Or being patient even when you know the person is never going to change.
Stfu
okay... that's when a person takes their chastity as a source of pride.

Balance. Wonder what’s up with the hate your catching for this. A personal short coming whose chord you’ve seem to struck with these guys/girls/its
@HulloTheLoser it’s funny, I’m not a Christian, though raised that way. And the funny thing is I adhere to more of the precepts than most ‘Christians’ do. And it’s amazing that most ‘Christians’ cannot name the two acts of violence performed by Christ as documented in the Bible.

Escanor: But I am superior.
He totally gets wrecked by Poseidon. Though, he MIGHT be able to defeat Ares. XD

I think, where I'm from, Sloth is the most relatable. It does involve depression and lost of interest.
I hate that sloth is considered a sin, because it means that instead of helping people who are depressed, Christians are just condemning them :( It's so sad. It's like punishing suicides for having lost faith in God.
Sloth kills time itself that's why its so bad.
That explains the Fullmetal Alchemist's Sloth. He wasn't quick enough to recover.
How does that saying go? "You can't kill time without injuring eternity"
And here I was about to make an anime reference but you beat me to it. Still, it is kind of interesting that the seven deadly sins and most often than not personifications of them play a role in that corner of popular culture.
You forgot what is truly the greatest and most destructive sin of all; Scalping and price gouging.
technically that's greed but I see your point
The most destructive sin is pride because that was the sin that got Satan and he still hasn’t let it go.
@@psychedelicpayroll5412 Way to deflate the joke...

The concepts of the 7 Deadly Sins vs. the 7 Holy Virtues has long intrigued me for some reason. I'm something of an amateur writer and have explored several ideas designed to utilize them in some capacity, though I sadly haven't brought any of those ideas to fruition yet. Regardless, this was a good analysis. Thanks for creating this video. :)
why not go with a similar concept to nanatsu no taizai ?
I actually have been working a game involving them and they promote many concepts of learning but the premise is to help you address and learn bible verses to counter them. The virtues are also part of the game. Can't give details because I'm working on the patent but one day when it hits stores you will know.
@@Hess0410 Intriguing concept! I like it. Hope you finish it and your game succeeds. :)
I know what you mean. I'm amateur writing about the 7 Deadly Sins, too. What are often the relatable causes and the effects on life, but I've stopped Because of my mind I could expend after finishing each sin.
@@lordtrinen2249 been working on it for a year. My wife and I run an online Facebook ministry. We do everything right now from scratch and homemade. The homemade versions are free and meant to be gifts, the factory versions once in stores will have to come with some form of cost for materials and promotion etc. But we also have many different versions of the concept. From bean bags to weight plates. The one game depending on the pieces you choose to use, can go from a game to a work out set to even a set of garden stones to place around or even use as paperweight or old fashioned weight training in bags. I'd have to make a video or live stream to explain in full detail but basically, use any thing you can find, rocks, pillows, bean bags, or whatever and you can apply the sin and the bible verse to it with paint. Nice little thing to have around. Especially when you are having a bad day. My wrath stone is used constantly. Psalms 37:8 cease from anger forsake wrath, fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
It's actually crazy how true they are. Heaven and hell are a mental state and doing these sins will make you sabotage yourself and get you in hell. There's actually a way of living that leads you to heaven that everyone has to figure out for themselves. For example "never judge others" (pride or envy) etc etc. It's like there's actually something that created this world and we are programmed in a certain way.
This works perfectly well from an evolutionary, non-religious point of view too. Social behavioural ecology says that it benefits individuals to work in harmony with, not against, others. Look at ants and bees, or lions and wolves, for well known examples in nature. People who act selfishly tend to incur the displeasure of the rest of society, unless they're rich and famous, then plenty of people seem willing to follow and forgive them for a multitude of sins.
@@Fledhyris yes, one has to remember that similar explanation models has been with us since before christianity. Aristoteles was one of the first in recorded history to talk about this in "Nicomachean Ethics", 300+ years before christianity was even invented.
So let's not put the cart before the horse here. These are crude models of trying to explain nature. We are what we are otherwise we wouldn't be. The result of blind evolution. We are the descendants of whatever behavior led to most genes passed on to the next generation. The "sins" and "virtues" are hindsight expressions of behaviors evolved over vast periods of time as social primates surviving in groups. Glorified by human self-centeredness, a broad imagination and a large brain to express it with.
Hmm, outside of being tempted to eat of the fruit of the tree of Knowledge. Would Envy be the first sin committed after leaving the Garden of Eden? I mean, Kane was envious of his brother Abel, before killing him, then lying to God.
probably
I guess you could also argue that Cain was prideful - he thought his offering was just as good as (if not better than) Abel's, which led to envy, wrath and then - what sin does deceit fall under, I wonder...
@@Fledhyris Hmm, that is a good point. Lust is also a candidate, while not in the carnal sense it still could apply, as Cain lusted after the approval of God to the point of killing his own brother. They that could also be argued to be greed, I feel greed is more material in nature.
the funny thing a lot of religious people fail to say is the whole "balance is key"
sin can lead to a terrible life but virtue can also lead to a miserable exitance
gluttony can lead to heart failure but temperance in excess can lead to starvation
Why you gotta point out my core traits like this?😂😂😂😂😂
LOL, and I wouldn't be surprise if there is a god or spell for each of these sins.
The artwork on this channel is always spot on and perfect! Let alone the narration. Love mythology and fiction explained❤️
I always felt Lust, Envy, and Wrath were unavoidable in some sense. If one feels lust towards another they have committed a sin but did they decide to feel that way towards someone? Should that be considered wrong in an of itself?
They didn't decide it and you can't blame them for something they didn't decide
Just don't take it too far to killing or sexual assaulting someone
And sloth. People can't help feeling depressed, despondent etc. I don't think anyone can really help feeling any of the sins, it's how much you give into them and act on them which makes the difference, in my view.
@@Fledhyris @Fledhyris Proudhon I have always thought about Matthew 5:28 where Christ says he who has looked at a woman with lust had committed adultery and felt that it relates to all of these. Noticing someone is attractive, feeling lazy, or getting justifiably angry could all be quite damning if this is what that means. Quite a standard for anyone to even imagine, let alone attempt.
A lot of these refer to taking stuff too far. Desiring someone isn't necessarily bad but taken to an extreme could result in anything from sex/porn addiction to gRape. But having sexual desire for someone in the right context, like in a marriage, can produce positive things like children or becoming closer as a couple.
Thank you - a concise and illuminating description as always - it's a pleasure to listen to you
Love your content! 💯 It's very helpful and enjoyable...
And I have to complement your narration! 🎵
Absolutely love this channel. This is, as usual, a brilliant video. Please keep them coming. Keep safe out there
I have heard gluttony described as a desire for meaningless things. For example more food than is necessary or different types of addiction where you do something just to do it without it being useful in any way like alcohol, drugs or even betting money
Whenever I see people confuse envy with jealousy, and say things like "jealousy is a sin," I wish I can remind them of the difference between the two; jealousy is fear, while envy is excess.
Jealousy can be completely righteous as well. We're sometimes foolish not to be jealous. God would be jealous sometimes. We've turned jealousy into a pure sin because monogamy seems to be dying in some places. Those places look at jealousy as a sin. Excessive jealousy is distrust and fear... but often projection. The most jealous people are often cheaters themselves
Envy is an outgrowth of pride. John should be happy because he has everything but his pride makes him unhappy because his neighbour has more. It doesn't matter how much more... it could be good looks or intelligence
Good point but does that mean jealousy isn't a sin? Or just a more venial sin? If all sins can lead to the greater sins, and could therefore be argued to be a subset - falling under the umbrella - I could see jealousy turning more to wrath than to envy - jealous husband killing his wife for perceived cheating, for example. So that supports the difference.
But they're both bad
@@jaybah836 They're both just emotions and only as bad as you let them control you.
I have been working on some D&D characters that each represent the 7 Deadly Sins and 7 Heavenly Virtues however the Sins are the Heroes and the Virtues are the Antagonists.
This is absolutely inspired off of the Anime by the same name but not meant to be a 1-1 comparison. I don't know what I plan to do with these characters yet... maybe if I run a game one day they will appear as NPCs who have their own plot going on which the players could intervene in if they want but it's entirely optional as not to railroad the party, and the characters themselves are not meant to overshadow the player characters like I have seen many bad DMs do
Greed known by the Nickname "The Empress" is a Swashbuckler Rogue who loves the thrill of the Heist more that the actual material she gets out of it.
Lust known by the Nickname "The Magician" is a Trickster Cleric who prefers to use practically deception over magically inflicted deceit. The game is all about constructing a lie that people want to believe over the truth.
Sloth known by the Nickname "The Hermit" is a wandering College of Valor Bard with a short attention span and lack of patience. Whenever things become to tedious or boring she is on to the next interest.
Wrath known by the Nickname "The Strength" is a Ancestral Guardian Barbarian, very simply if they come across anything they deem unjust they pick a fight.
Gluttony known by the Nickname "The Star" is a Great Old Ones Warlock with no clear Patron because she makes deals with anyone willing to give her more power and toys with powerful unknowable otherworldly beings.
Envy known by the Nickname "The Wheel of Fortune" is a Wild Magic Sorcerer with a birth defect that makes their existence uncomfortable, so they long to find a way to fix their body while giving everyone else Wild Magic.
And Last but thinks he's First, Pride, also know as "The Devil" a Blood Hunter who dresses very effeminately for a man, because nothing can ruin his self assured confidence but welcomes people to challenge him.
They sound fun, but probably not the best party for sticking and working together long-term! Greed, Lust and Sloth sound like they would have fun together though, just running around grabbing stuff for the heck of it.

THE TRUE 7 DEADLY SINS
THE TRANSGRESSIONS AGAINST NATURAL LAW
WHAT IS NATURAL LAW?
Natural Law is a set of universal, inherent, objective, non man made, eternal and immutable conditions which governs the consequence of behaviours of beings with the capacity for understanding the difference between harmful and non harmful behaviour. The understanding of NATURAL LAW is centered upon bringing our own CONSCIENCE into allignment with OBJECTIVE MORALITY. This means definitively KNOWING which behaviours are RIGHTS becuase they do NOT initiate harm to other sentient beings, and which behaviours are WRONGS becuase they DO initiate harm to other sentient beings.
1. MURDER - taking someones life without just cause the life of another - which does not belong to you.
2. ASSAULT - taking without just cause anothers physical wellbeing which does not belong to you.
3. RAPE - taking anothers free will sexual connsent which does not belong to you.
4. THEFT - Taking property which does not belong to you.
5. TRESSPASS - Taking security in anothers dwelling place which does not belong to you.
6. COERCIAN - taking anothers free will, which does not belong to you.
7. LYING - taking anothers abiliry to engage in informed decision making - which doesnt belong to you.
@@wendyfoster9232 Your point?
@@thomasecker9405 its the true law and not made by man......its immutable which means cannot change .......Natural law is a theory in ethics and philosophy that says that human beings possess intrinsic values that "govern" their reasoning and behavior. Natural law maintains that these rules of right and wrong are inherent in people and are not created by society or court judges.
@@wendyfoster9232 Yes, I am aware of this. Being a member of the faith, these rights you have listed fall within the Ten Commandments, as well as the teachings of Christianity and Christ Himself. But while these sins are concerning actions, the Seven Deadly Sins of Catholic doctrine, like Christ's teachings from the Sermon on the Mount, tackle the earthly motivations of each sin. I'm not a Catholic myself, but I do not find these two lists at conflict with each other, as one handles the actions themselves, while the other is concerned about the motivation of such sins. After all, Scripture does tell us to take all of our thoughts, dreams, and imaginations captive unto the obedience of Jesus Christ.

I ask for this and got my wish. Thank you our host.
I saw a documentary series on the history channel during the mid 2010's of the 7 sins and it said that Pride was the Vikings virtue in their culture and lust was celebrated by the Greeks and Romans. Its alright to have pride but a humble-pride (being proud of who u r, where u come from, ur family etc.), just don't think its better then any others cause that's when its a sin by arrogance. Gluttony as said isn't always about food and drinks, can b of additions like drugs or anything. The 7 sins the core centers for all the lies, chaos, hatred, and wars in the world. I believe there should b 2 more; Sorrow when u let ur grief to consume u and do anything to feel better or it holds u back. Joy is the virtue counterpart. And Fear as said but it's not just cowardice, its also prejudgment cause ur afraid that which is different; or don't wanna look week to others and so many more related to fear. Courage or Hope is what fights against it.
I appreciate these type of videos. I am currently working on a series that involves but the sins and the virtues. I'm very excited.

Great video! Very educational. I didn’t know about the cardinal virtues. And, it’s also more inspiration to read Dante’s divine comedy!!
I enjoyed this video, thanks for it. The mortal sins and their counterparts have always been a favorite study of mine. Now my "two-cents" on the matter. lol
Disclaimer: Below is my opinion based off my personal studies and is just that my personal opinion.
The virtues are just as extreme as the vices. They are not the middle ground. What I always found interesting is that temperance becomes gluttony in some cases. Not eating enough can be defined as both. Chastity is the worst of the virtues. It violates "God's" command to multiply and be fruitful. Most the sins are just survival aspects. Pride= self esteem/value, Gluttony and Greed= survival instincts, Lust= nonchurch approved love, Envy= Motivation and drive to achieve, Sloth= Depression and nonchurch approved sadness and relaxation, Wrath= nonchurch approved self defense, Though anger issues also fit here and those are bad. When you break the sins down you get three things, Lust, Envy and Sloth. Pride can be seen as the completion of envy, Wrath can be seen as the darker aspects of the three, Gluttony and Greed are aspects of Lust. And Sloth is a form of mental illness demonized by the "Holy Men". However what I found interesting in my studies is that Lust is the original sin, with all others descending from it. Yet the only sin that can be considered a virtue. It is the knowledge the "fruit" from the center of the garden of Eden granted and a "sin" all are bound to commit. I have also found Lust, in one of it's many titles, is a virtue to most faiths. The only two faiths I have seen it as a sin is one version of the enlightened, and the abrahamic faiths. But even amongst those it is not a sin in curtain situations. Or recognized as a nonavoidable sin that you must be cleansed of after committing.
I would actually really like to see you do a deep dive on all the sins (from the anime) and how they embody them as well as the virtues

As a Christian, I feel a lot of shame at allowing myself to have given in to Wrath, Lust, Gluttony and Sloth in my past.
Wrath - I am usually calm and friendly, but I also have a fiery temper, and can be uncharacteristically filled with rage when I feel hard done by, unfairly treated, mocked or if someone picks a fight with me. My temper becomes even more difficult to control when I'm going through a bout of depression.
Lust - I consider myself as having being guilty of Lust because I have long struggled with loneliness and depression, and my heart has yearned for a nice lady to share my life with, and to be with in Heaven. I would never stoop so low as to attempt to steal another man's wife, however.
Gluttony - I enjoy tasty food, and used to comfort eat on days when I felt particularly depressed. I am trying to diet now, though Gluttony is hard to resist.
Sloth - When my severe depression rears its ugly head once again and clouds my mind my body feels like a lead weight, and it is begrudgingly that I move. I try to avoid being spiritually slovenly, but depression is nasty and evil, and it sometimes makes me feel like God has abandoned me, or I am unworthy of His grace.
Very helpful sir thank you.
That ad placement 👌🏾
It would be great for a future video to explain the seven deadly frames!
2:06 That kind of shade was uncalled for. 😂
omg i like his voice so much i even watched the sponsor shout out....;D
Great video.
Those visuals are stunning.
That's the best segue into a paid promotion I've ever heard
Thank you so much
I like how the Devil is drawn to look like late actor Andrew Sachs
Just after you finished talking about Gluttony, I got an ad of Domino's Pizza. 😆😆
Since it’s not good it doesn’t actually count.
love it!❤
Well done

“APATHY IS DEATH!”
Good video.
The whispering demon in the thumbail (and in several scenes) reminds me of Burt Gummer from the Tremors movies (played by Michael Gross) and I kinda love that. Whereas the guy being whispered to is basically me every time I say anything anywhere online. "DId I just say something stupid?" "Did I make 40,000 spelling errors?" "Was I too mean?" "Did I do a good job of conveying what I wanted to say?". I worry a lot. I'm a worrier.
I think another fun video that you could do could relate to the video game Diablo. So, you could dive into the three prime evils and the four lesser evils and any kind of theological relation found in the games creation.
Animal symbolysm fot each sin
Pride - the peacock and the horse
Envy - the snake and the dog (most of the time a she-dog)
Wrath - the lion and the bear (Rip Escanor and King)
Sloth - the donkey, the turtle and the snail
Greed - the wolf, the toad (and the ant?)
Gluttony - the boar (didn't find much more)
Lust - the goat and the deer
It would be interesting to score world leaders using these criteria.
