Never expected this video to "blow up" and do so well in the way that it did all things considering. Thank you to all the people that watched and enjoyed what I put out and hopefully continue to put out.
It's understandable though. So many shows have misused CG and used it to produce absolute crap, so people have an automatic bad reaction to CG. I absolutely hate CG and never thought I'd like a CG show, but this show is beautiful, and uses it's CG to add to the beauty, rather than just attempt to mimic 2d and failing. More people would give CG a chance if it was used like this, to make things traditional 2d animation cannot, rather than to just find a cheap way around animating their show.
@@nicolasmoncada1554 It really is. You can't catch the translucency of the gems with regular 2d animation as easily. Also, the lighting and scenery is wonderful
funny enough Steven Universe and the manga of houseki no kuni were in production around the same time, so no ones a rip off of either, but rather its a crazy coincidence.
While Steven Universe is build up on the idea that a kid gets dragged in a conflict from a merging alien race, land of the lustrous is based on Japanese Folklore that a human consists out of Flesh, Bone and Spirit. In the anime/manga those components got separated and each of them got his own habitat (Bones->Earth, Flesh->Sea, Spirit->Sky). Even the design choices are too different from each other to draw any connections
Bidane Martinez-Huerta err... not really. Houseki no Kuni is waaaay older than SU. Because its webcomic was published 7 years before SU, while the official manga was published on 2012, a year earlier than SU first pilot episode.
Bidane Martinez-Huerta ,gems are shiny colorful and beautiful Why wouldn't you want to turn them into girls? (I know that the gems in both shows are gender less)

You forgot to menion how while being a 3D anime, they setup most of their shots as if it were a 2D anime. And they're very smart with their camera work. When perspective changes aren't needed, you can tell they made a pre-recorded shot and just scrolled it across the screen. Honestly, it's such a refreshign and innovative anime that it needs to be known everywhere.
Just correcting you here, Orange didn't animate Black Bullet or Dimension W, those were Kinema Citrus and 3Hz. Orange did however do the CG for those shows. This is actually the first ever full anime they've done.
the colours, animation, camera work, tension, choreography were well done . they utilized 3D CGI in a way that it adds to the cinematography instead of just being too lazy to properly animate,
siamiam also CG makes it possible for the hair to naturally move since hair animations take too much time and money to pull them off constantly but CG is computer generated so they can use it whenever they want or Cinnabars little orbs. It made the experience way more realistic
I tried convincing my friends to watch Houseki, but they are kind of CG haters, and even though I told them it was well done CG, they just don't want to give it a chance. This video is really well done, I'll try to have them watch it, maybe it will convince them... Really good work!
Did you persuade them yet? Just tell them to at least watch the first episode, I'm sure they will fall for it. Unless your friends only likes fighting anime, I have a few classmate who only watch actions and doesn't care about plots, which is kind of sad.
I too am a CG hater, but I finally gave in and decided to check it out and I relearned the age old lesson to never judge a book by its cover. I will never again let my hatred of CG blind me to a possible masterpiece. This anime is a beautiful and surreal gem. Your friends are missing out.
I looked it up and, fortunately, Steven Universe came out only a year after the Houseki no Kuni manga, so their similarity is almost wholly coincidental, as crazy as that is.
Mandatory hate on Amazon for stealing this show, but otherwise, this is my absolute favorite series of the season and going right up in my own top 5 of all time. I actually love CG anime, but so many companies do it wrong by dropping the frame rate to a disgusting crawl that just feels like playing a video game on a bad laptop and makes the experience miserable. This studio did the style justice though and I love it. While I love the properly done CG, I also adore the soundtrack of the show and Phos' VA is actually one of my favorite VAs in the industry. If I'm remembering right, I started this show the day it first came out, immediately following my completion of Hibike Euphonium, of which shared the same lead voice actor. It's just a delightfully lively voice that fluctuates really fluidly and always makes me smile at its dynamics. I'm sure that as an audiophile that the voice acting bit is really just something I'm alone on, but still. She brings Phos alive as her acting really compliments Phos' playful character.
Regarding the voice actor, (*if you haven't read the manga, spoilers!*) I wonder what day will do after chapter 44. The current VA would either have to change her tone drastically or they might need to change VAs completely
Not to mention that Phos had so much character development that it was amazing, even more amazing, the studio and VA managed to capture that really well. Phos has after all changed so rapidly in such a short time compared to how she has been over the many 200-300 years ish long life?
CrekA CG if utilized properly is a lot cheaper than 2d. More and more anime are gonna be animated in it for one. You can do stuff with CG like texture effects, modeling, and tracking shots (especially tracking shots) a lot easier
10:10 well since they're gender less rock people, it really doesn't matter how you refer to them. You could call them him, or her and neither would be wrong.
Houeseki no Kuni is the first ever cg anime I was able to watch, usually I end up turning it off halfway through the first episode because I cannot stand the animation. This show was done so beautifully however that I could watch it for visuals alone. Thankfully it has an amazing story line with a ton of depth that easily makes it the best anime of the season as well as one of the better anime I have ever seen. That says a lot considering how much I cannot stand cg anime, studio orange did a great job, I now pray that we get a season two. Everyone be sure and tell your friends to give this anime a shot, if we get the audience they will have to make a season two.
I somehow missed this series when it first came out. I'm one of the many CG haters, but with this one I can't imagine it looking even half as good in traditional animation. This show definitely deserves more love!
Well, it's already one of my favorite anime not just this season. Some critique to your video, since this is a recommendation video for those who haven't watched the show yet, you used a lot of spoilery scenes.
Yu Takeda Yeah I couldnt help that since I wanted to show off all the awesome scenes/shots from across the show. I was just hoping it waa out of context enough not to really affect much. And I think it helps that none of the characters can die that I can show some of the later episodes, but yeah I was iffy and tried not to be too spoilery.
Yeah the scenes he showed really didn't have any context. Someone who watched this without seeing the anime wouldn't really understand what is going on, I don't think anything was really spoiled.
*Information about the manga without spoilers* - *for those who watched the anime* I started watching recendly and now catched up with the manga and without spoilers: guys read the manga, im speechless at how good the story devellops. I would recommend that you take the time to read it from the beginning as the art is very pleasing and has a very unique style. The episodes adapt the panels of the manga pretty much one on one so you won't miss any story if you just start with chapter 32. The only difference to the show plot is that the very last scene in EP. 12 with sensei is not in the manga,(it was probably added to make a better conclusion because the plot cant be divided into arcs all that well...). That and the fact that for some reason the amethysts disturb the attempted communication instead of cinnabar. Thats really the only thing different. From what I noticed even the dialogue is pretty much identical for episode 1-12 and chapter 1-31. So if you dont want to waste time its no big deal to just jump right in.....its definitely worth it.
I'm embarrassed to admit I passed on this show initially simply because it was CG. Fast forward to half way through the next season and my curiosity about all the positive reviews finally got the better of me and I decided to check it out and I never looked back. This really is a unique and worthwhile show that should be tried be everyone.
Actually, at first I hated the character of Phos so much that I stopped watching. It was only after I could binge the show that I tried again, and then I really liked the character development. Think the manga is going nowhere with its current development, though. For me, a typical case of the author stalling the narrative to extend publication of something that is successful. A pity.
Well, literal translation is "Country of gems/jewels", but the raw meaning doesn't sound as good. Although it seems to have that spark that will make me watch it. The 月人 lit. Moon people have a history in Japanese mythos, being known in the Tale of Kaguya from 100's of years ago, and I originally came across the term Lunarians in Touhou. I wonder if this anime will feature it's own Kaguya, I hope it's not that predictable
I don't think so, as it's based more on the mystical notion that humans are made of bones - earth / flesh - water / spirit - air. The moonpeople seem to be trying to reunite with both the bones and the flesh and recreate humanity, something Kong-sensei seems to oppose, for reasons yet unexplained. Even the jellyfish (forgot her name) was not so sure whether keeping the 3 parts separated was the best option. But as humanity no longer existis, it's unlikely that we'll have a Kaguya in the story.
