Mavis is certainly an underrated character. She’s a nice contrast to Toby for multiple reasons. Unlike Toby, an old steam tram that has learned his limits, Mavis is the young, vibrant diesel locomotive that, in many ways, was designed to replace Toby.
Ahhh, my girl! Mavis was my favorite as a kid; I loved her spunky attitude and just appreciated seeing a girl, any girl, in my favorite show. Plus, I always loved how chaotic she was. Steam engines and diesels fought constantly, but Mavis was above all that, only interested in fucking around and making everyone else's lives harder. Be like Mavis. Become ungovernable.
Happy late women's day Mavis. Lol when I was a kid I always thought Percy and Stephanie were girls so I honestly never noticed the majority of the characters being males until adulthood watching it again because it's neat....and fun fact Rusty was originally intended to be a gender neutral character. I mean they're all engines anyways so pronouns don't matter too much but it's neat to have a few female characters too. 😊
Mavis' more mature personality began around season 6, where she showed sympathy towards Salty when he was sad for not being near the sea, and told off Bill and Ben when one got gold buffers and the other got jealous.
I feel Mavis" maturity shown in Season 5 with "Stepney's Lost" when she sounded more mature and caring when advising Stepney on how spooky things get and to be careful.
Mavis! She's always been one of my favorites, but I seem to forget about her for some reason? I don't know. Toby's Tightrope remains one of my favorite episodes. I just love Mavis to bits.
@@justachonkyspider she had one Christopher awdry story but all that happens is that she gets hit by a truck to explain the predicament percy, toby and Thomas are in.
Mavis and Daisy are by far my Favourite Female Characters. I didn't really grow up much off Emily, as she didn't appear until Season 7, I was actually born/raised on Thomas around the same time Season 4 was made in '94-'95. Season 3 I always loved.
I always drew and pretended to be Mavis when I was a kid. I loved a sympathetic diesel character and young lady, she really made me happy when I was small.
A fun tidbit I always liked is that when they would build sets during Season 3, Mavis was the crew's preferred "test engine" because she had a reliable, buck-standard Marklin chassis with no alterations. It's in Jeremy King's SIF Interview: web.archive.org/web/20170905234946/www.sodor-island.net/episodeguide/jeremyking.html
Ngl, I was shocked Mavis spoke every season, only for her record to be broken, when she was kick for bwba, and this really doing ditty to her, ill miss her.
For an rebrand that wanted to promote gender equality, Mattel really did Mavis dirty in the BWBA era. I guess they deemed her unmarketable too, which is such a shame.
Still mad they introduced Rebecca to replace Henry; if anyone was to replace Henry it should have been Molly, as at least she shared some of his traits. (Strong, shy, caring, sometimes worries a bit too much...)
I was going to comment about the Airfix Kit - I have a couple they are nice to make. But we could make up some stories of the horn. Maybe changed to avoid confusion with the end of work horn at the Quarry , so the workers kept going home early, and so on, I am sure stories could be made.

I find it so funny that Mavis made at least one appearance every season until the era where they pushed for more “gender equality” and was forgotten about.
I don't understand why mavis wasn't used all that much during the brenner era and the BWBA seasons? It's funny because mattel wanted to have quite a bit of focus on females characters yet they purposefully ignore the one long time female character, that people actually like since the book series and season 3 onward, in favor of all the newly introduced female characters in seasons 22 through 24.
@@savagegardenfan9680 No idea, but at least the bachmann model is still around. Hell mavis is still acknowledged at the strasburg DOWT events on some occasions. So if anything mavis being heavily ignored like how edward and henry have been is disrespectful because mavis was the second female engine character to be introduced in the books (with daisy being the first and been used way more). Honestly it's hard to tell what the deal is.
Do orther the maroon fishy train, the one who's last appearance looked like his soul was sucked by the devil and it left nothing but black empty void in his eyes. The one that has a very nice model but never got used again because the writers saw him as a pile of trash.
I’m considering it honestly; however people enjoy seeing dedicated videos on specific characters I’ve found. It gets repetitive but at the same time I can’t say I don’t enjoy finding out what makes them each special. 🤷♂️

The Class 04 / Mavis did replace the J70 / Toby
Well that's exactly what her class was designed for, she was designed to replace him

Same. They missed a lot of opportunities to show her potential.

This was the video was waiting for. I'm more of a diesel train guy and Mavis will always be my favorite
Mavis has such a beautiful model
Fergus next, anybody? I wish more people talked about the history of his model since It's quite saddening to me.
Who would have guessed that dropping a bunch of rocks on an engine could actually damage it?

Epic. About time you did Mavis's model history here.

Great video! Here’s an idea! Perhaps you got a model history of Whiff as he’s the only engine who has glasses. Unless you’ve already done that.

@@Dat-Mudkip I will never forgive for the way they wrote out Henry. Edward too.
I'd love to see the Troublesome Trucks history of TTTE
Actually, Ivo Hugh (the engine) was the last character created by Wilbert Awdry, but he never had time to write about Ivo Hugh before he passed.
I think it would be cool to see a model history of Derek
that would be very short
Paxman
What a video! Loving it. Interesting to see where these models ended up.

Another amazing and informative history.
When you get the chance I would like to see another one of them wrecked videos about locomotives that wreck I like to see more of those
For a future episode you should make the face construction segment a singalong with the “lyrics” at the bottom lol
Great video, glad to finally see that you made this video
I love Mavis when I was small she was my favorite diesel
Harold would be cool, would love to know how they made him fly! 🚁

Yo the Farquhar isn’t finish, where the hell is Old King Coal?
You done the coffeepot yet? Technically doesn't have a model but they existed, atleast in text, in the books.
How do you get these videos out so quick?
