I love this effect. Started doing it years ago. I start with a couple of lighter colors first like wild honey, then rusty hinge to take the color further then then finish with vintage photo and a couple incidental streaks of black soot for some really burned effect in some spots.
In response to your question I think you could maybe try a dark marker like brown or black and go over the edges. Start lightly at first and then add more layers of ink as needed.
Hi..I really your bird journal and the pages you showed...I wandered how they did that...just wandering you know how you said to do several layers..I was thinking if you did a black ink on the last application wouldn't it give it a more of a burnt edge or would it stuff it up? Tfs Irene xx
Omg! Great tutorial Julie! I wish I had enough saw this a couple of weeks ago...lol I actually stood over my laundry sink and set the edges of my paper on fire...lol this is much safer! Tfs hugs Renee
Too funny. If you want to do the technique that I used and make it look even more like burnt edges after inking in the brown ink go over it again in a few selected areas with black ink and then you will get it to look even more like you set your paper on fire.
I run scissors along the edge just like OP & when it’s in book format I take a lighter & burn the edges. I should have led with this statement but if you’re a minor please do not do this w/o permission or supervision, always glad to welcome new crafters but safety first

If you don’t have an ink pad, is there any other thing that you can use?
