Best Team EVER - The 1985-86 Boston Celtics season was the 40th season of the Boston Celtics in the National Basketball Association (NBA). They finished with the best record in the league at 67-15, including a 40-1 record at home (37-1 at the Boston Garden, 3-0 at the Hartford Civic Center). Those 40 home wins set an NBA record which would only be matched by the San Antonio Spurs in 2016. Widely regarded among the greatest teams in NBA history, their 67 total wins were one win shy of tying their franchise record of 68 wins set in 1972-73, and tied for seventh all-time for total wins by a team in a single season.
Larry Bird won his third consecutive MVP award and Bill Walton won the Sixth Man of the Year Award. The team was anchored by the "Big Three" frontcourt of Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parish, which is frequently ranked among the best frontcourts in NBA history.
In the playoffs, the Celtics swept the Chicago Bulls( MJ never defeated Bird as a player) in three games in the First Round, then defeated the Atlanta Hawks in five games in the Semi-finals, before sweeping the Milwaukee Bucks in four games in the Conference Finals to reach the NBA Finals for a third consecutive season. In the NBA Finals, the Celtics faced off against the Houston Rockets in a rematch of the 1981 NBA Finals, which the Celtics won in six games.

Old teams would never prevail today. Any team where the center stood under the basket for the entire game, would get 20 3-second violations.
Too many rules changes for the earlier generation of champs to adapt to before illegal defense, before 10 second rule.
Todays champions won't be time travelling back to Wilt, Oscar, and Russel. Otherwise todays champs wouldn't have a chance with that eras champs. No bridging of that gap makes trying to compare impossibly inaccurate.

Whenever a statement is made with a top 5 teams, or the best at whatever it maybe, it will be questioned, especially when the statistics don't support that statement. I question it because it left off the 1967 Philadelphia 76ers who won 69 games and went on to win the NBA Title that year. The 1972 LA Lakers also won 69 games during the regular season and the NBA Title. The only teams to exceed those two teams where the 1996 Chicago Bulls with 72 wins and a NBA Title, and the 2016 Golden State Warriors which won a record 73 games, but lost in the NBA Finals. The NBA has been in existence since the late 40's do some real research before making statement which cannot be supported with accurate stats or data.

I also don’t think you can ignore Larry Bird and that era of the NBA. Without the transformation brought to the NBA by Bird and Magic the NBA was headed toward oblivion. Like Reddick you know the statistics but ignore the larger picture and the heart, skill and quality of the different eras of the NBA. This video was awful.

That is a little unfair because the Bulls had Jordan the undisputed goat, but if you want to measure the talent of the rest of the team then think about it.
