    What's really amazing is the ACCURACY with which he throws. Look closely at the receivers. The ball almost always hits them right on the numbers. Unreal...

    I agree wholeheartedly, Joe should be the undisputed (greatest) QB of all time. -Joe Montana LED drives, inch by inch to victory, he threw the ball without even looking sometimes (like a basketball player).
    People love to say Tom Brady is in the running for Joe's title but I've yet to see Tom actually prove that he's beyond the offensive system he runs, other than the kicker who always jumped into to save the day.

    If I needed one drive or just one game I'd put my money on Montana.
    People forget he was KOd late in the 90/91 NFC title game with the lead with Rice open on the pass he almost got off.
    He goes down, Young comes in cold. so just trying to run out the clock, Roger Craig fumbles, Giants recover and drive to kick the game winner.
    Montana closes that game out, probably goes 5-0 in SBs and with a 3peat.
    Plus, he lost all of 91 and 92 due to that injury.
    Imagine what SF could have done during those seasons with a healthy Joe. Then he returns after 2 years and leads a so so KC team to the playoffs twice and an AFC title game. He played when you could kill receivers over the middle, get away with contact past 5 yds down field and when QBs got crushed.
    He won 2 SBs before Rice was even drafted.
    If Montana stayed healthy and had Walsh for 18 years as Brady has been healthy but for one season and had Belichick 18 years (I excluded 08 when Brady was out) it's unfathomable what Joe coulda done.
    In only 7 full seasons as a full time starter with Walsh (82 was strike shortened and he didn't start in 79 and not all of 80) he won 3 of his 4 SBs with an 18-1 season in 84 and he also got screwed in the 83 NFC title game by the refs. 4-0 in SBs, zero interceptions and 127.8 SB passer rating. Joe Montana is the greatest QB of all time.

  • @xneo19
    @xneo19 15 лет назад +1

    He IS the undisputed greatest quarterback of all-time.
    The only reason he is not as mentioned as other old prime-time player is that he doesn't participate in anything the NFL does anymore. He walked away to spend time with his loved ones and that's what he does.
    In the end NO ONE comes close to his talent.

  • @r1undertaker

    You're right about the Rams too, MMS. Ravaged with injuries, Youngblood's broken leg, they still gave Pitt all they could handle. The two plays where Bradshaw went deep later in the game, both the same playcall and Bradshaw himself said it never worked in practice. You're right about Cromwell also. He dropped an easy pick six that woulda had the Rams up by 9 going into the 4th. It woulda been Bradshaw's 4th of the game. I also recall Smith's EZ drop that woulda put Dallas over Pitt in SB13.

    It's clear the extra effort his receivers made in KC. They were inspired jus thaving him on the field. You can see a somewhat of a drop off in the KC clips compared to his prime SF days. But we're talking about a 2 year layoff, being with a new team and having to learn a new rhythm with them, and being 2 years older. Still he took them to the playoffs and even one AFC title game. He was clearly the only reason the were any good those 2 seasons.

    • @markengelmeyer1467
      @markengelmeyer1467 10 лет назад

      Um no...the Chiefs were dominate in the AFC for pretty much all of the 90's. They went 13-3 right after he retired so no he is not the only reason at all

    • @pricepittsburgh
      @pricepittsburgh 10 лет назад

      I said those 2 seasons, not that they weren't good other seasons. I mean they were only 9-7 in 1994 with Montana so without him what are they? Probably a losing record. They were 11-5 with him in 1993, without him maybe they're 8-8. They were the # 1 seed in 95 and 97 after he retired so they were improving as a whole while he was with them, but I don't believe Bono or Grbac gets the 93 or 94 teams in the playoffs

    • @markengelmeyer1467
      @markengelmeyer1467 10 лет назад

      I guess we can agree to disagree. The Chiefs made it to the playoffs six seasons in a row from 1990 to 1995, and only two of them was with Montana...the other four without him. I guess nobody really knows if they would have made the playoffs if they didn't have him, but considering that they made the playoffs 3 years in a row before they even traded for him, makes me think that it could have happened.

    • @pricepittsburgh
      @pricepittsburgh 10 лет назад

      Mark Engelmeyer Then there is the possibility that they could have been better without him I guess. Because they were never top seed with him as they were the first year after he left and 2 years after that.It's hard to say how much of the same starting lineup they were in 90,91,92, 95,96, 97. Even when the nucleus is similar it is a different team every year based on injuries, free agencey, coaching changes and age. I guess I just figured since they were 11-5 and 9-7 with him that they would be worse without him. But I realize that they changed their system for him, but probably kept it the same for Bono since he was a former SF west coast Offense QB and did end up winning 4 more games than Joe won the season before, and 2 more than Joe did two seasons before. I attribute that to the team improving and growing during Joe's seasons. So basically I'm assuming had Joe stayed and not been old, then maybe they still go 13-3 with him too.But who knows, Maybe Joe was actually limiting them from their full potential and they placed too much emphasis on him. At the end of the day I'll stand corrected on the second half of my initial posts but it does appear that the first part of my initial post is accurate. That being the part about them looking as if they are working a lot harder than his receivers in SF appeared to be working. Maybe Joe was sucking a little by this point lol and that's why they had to.

    • @markengelmeyer1467
      @markengelmeyer1467 10 лет назад

      It's tough to say. I'm of course not trying to say that I'm glad he was with the Chiefs because I am. The Chiefs are my favorite team and to be able to say that we once had the greatest QB playing for us is pretty awesome..I just wish we could have gotten him sooner when he wasn't as old. I just hate when people try to say that the only reason we had won all of those games was because of Montana and that the team it's self sucked.

  • @Mechanized0
    @Mechanized0 13 лет назад +1

    @MasonMediaClips Montana stated that had he been given at least the opportunity to earn his job back (as if he need to) then he would have remained in San Francisco. Steve Young however refused the challenge. George Seifert, eager to make "his mark," was equally unwilling to allow Montana to compete with Steve Young in training camp and the preseason. Regardless of the circumstances, one does not betray the greatest quarterback in history, particularly in this fashion.

    I agree, MMS. These guys like Ben never saw these QBs actually play year in and year out. Joe won on every level, Walsh or no Walsh. System QB my ass, they are clueless. Joe is one of the greatest in history under duress, out of the pocket throwing on the run, defense all over him, turning nothing into a big play. Ice cool. Bradshaw threw it up for grabs and Swann/Stallworth made some of the sickest catches you will ever see. Other than that, it was Pittsburgh's defense that made that team roll.

    The MVP in all four Montana Super Bowls were offensive players, with Montana winning three times and Rice once. Staubach didn't call his own plays and was routinely considered the better QB than Bradshaw in the 70's. Bradshaw simply had a better defense than Dallas, great as Dallas' was. Bradshaw struggled and tossed three picks and barely beat the 9-7 Rams in SB14. If not for the Steelers defense in the 4th quarter, the Rams win that game. He won his first SB vs Minnesota 16-6. Defense. Period.

    To those who lobby for Tom Brady as GOAT...I like Brady. I also like the fact that he was a fan of Joe's as a boy (to think that the 49ers could have had him...!). But IF we are to compare the two--and I hate that we need to--we can't do it on stats alone. Joe lost 3 total years to injuries because he played when QBs and WRs were not protected as they are now. He was brutalized! He had to play within those rules! And yet you tell me, "don't bring up 'Spygate' or 'Brady Rules.'" Really? Like I said, I like Tom. But the way I see it, Joe is a Brady--who can also scramble. Big difference. If he needs any more credibility, listen to Jerry Rice (who isn't even in the first of these 3 clips; Montana was great before he arrived) or Mike Holmgren.

But if he hadnt got hurt there would have never been a 85, 86, 87, or any other team foe that matter. Joe will live for ever. & pl dont give me that shit about him winning only bec he had rice. FYI joe won 2 , let me say again, 2 superbowls before rice got there. If anything joe made jerry who he was.

    I miss the real 49ers. The 49ers today are a bunch of wimp and overrated hype. Damn it all!

    @wodkins.. First of all how is Brady not what he once was? He won MVP while throwing to a bunch of undersized receivers. He will never be as good as Montana? Ok so if he wins one more ring that puts him at 4 rings w/ 5 appearances. Montana wasn't able to get to 5. Joe is the greatest ever as of this moment. But chill with the "he will never be as good as.." It just screams nostalgic fanboy.

      Wrong! The Great Joe Montana is the GOAT! Brady is just the most ACCOMPLISHED playing Puss Ball while piling up VOLUME stats/ accomplishments.

      +Beast Tom Brady continues to say that Joe Montana is his pick for the greatest of all time. He emulated Joe as his blueprint.

      No, that would be Tom Brady who is overrated and big time lucky! Mr. VOLUME as I call him, who is the most accomplished QB playing Puss Ball while piling up VOLUME stats/accomplishments.
      Mr. VOLUME has played for over TWENTY YEARS and not a DAMN THING WRONG WITH HIM!
