Maaan, I was so happy seeing Oikawa in the future arc. That he hever gave up on growing and that he got a chance to challenge KageHina on a world level. When I saw that page I broke to tears, because that was the exact resolution I needed from this manga.
Oikawa is my absolute favorite character of all time... This is because if you just slightly change the angle you see him with, more layers are going to reveal themselves and you either hate him or love him. One thing's for sure: his impact on the entire Haikyu!! series (especially in the manga) is UNDENIABLE. Even if he wasn't as present after season 2, his advice and influence on Kageyama stayed as important reminders that never left the court. His open-mindedness and acceptance of his weaknesses made him a wonderfully written character that we may all relate to. He feels very real and I love him for that.
The moment Oikawa transcended the screen for me was when he made that ridiculously long set. The set itself was great, but him smashing into that table, then slipping on the cloth...yet still getting up. Facing countless obstacles but still getting up. Knowing he wasn’t as talented as Kageyama, knowing that he will be surpassed, but still hungry for evolution. Hungry to stay on the court as long as possible, even if he was dealt a weaker hand in life, and man did that resonate with me. Great video dude, I really related to what you said and how you feel. You just keep making bangers :)
i love haikyuu, it has some of the best character depth in todays anime. i hate it when people downplay it as “just another sports anime”. great analysis video!
Thank you for giving Oikawa the recognition he deserves. He is an underrated character and people fail to realise the significance of his skill and persona as an opposition and an antagonist. And yes, though an antagonist, he's character and struggles are relatable. He played a huge part in the growth of the Karasuno team and the duo Kageyama and Hinata. Great video and character analysis 👌🏼
This was a video I needed right now. I've been going after a dream that I've had for 5 years now but previously was too afraid to pursue. I didn't even consider that dream possible, I avoided real action that would move me forward, I just drowned in self-deprecating thoughts and told myself that I could never do it, that I was born a weakling. But ever since I started looking at this dream of mine as a one step at a time process it has been the most fulfilling process. I am still not sure if I will reach that place, if I can do it, all I can do is take one step at a time and believe in myself. As Oikawa states "If you think it that it will never come, it probably never will". Good luck to everyone on their pursuits as well.
never gets so emotionally attached to a character before, well not until I watched Oikawa story. i liked him in the very first time he was shown, and definitely loved him throughout the season. I was really surprised that many haikyuu fans don't like him and find him so selfish. sad but he is an inspiration to me :)
I've started watching Haikyuu a week ago and I am currently at the Aoba Johsai match from the end of the first season, I guess I will have to wait a bit before watching your video 😅
@@HidinginPublic is that manga only? Because we don’t go past school yet in the anime I really hope we get a full adaptation though Isn’t the manga concluded in Japan now? I know many times a problem for some anime adaptations is that they catch up to manga/source material so they have to take a break or use fillers etc But if it’s officially over now (in it’s source material) then *that* aspect (of course there’s more than that that play into it sksjsjsj) shouldn’t be an issue anymore For certain series, I tend to lean more towards anime But I’d consider picking up Haikyu manga but still, regardless I want more of the anime version
Alright, this 1-2 punch about the analysis and the cover of memories of you is very emotional. I ain't cryin. I'm glad you talked about pushing yourself into things you're not great at. Its something I've been struggling to work on for a while and especially with the pandemic seeming to close so many doors and drag me into stagnation, working on those creative outlets, letting myself be bad at something so that one day I can be good or even great not for any other purpose but because I enjoy creating something. I need to be there and play the game and accept that while the talented are good, the true monsters are the ones who never stop trying to grow and be better.
I dont feel like anyone is going to really realize how big something as small as a clip of a video can change a person but damn hearing the words you said makes me want to stand up and change. And when i do i will come back and give you every single thank you under the sun for givivng me ths spark ive been looking for... so ill start by giving one Thank you
I love watching and rewatching your Haikyuu character analysis videos. It helps with the "Oh my god, i can't wait for the next season of Haikyuu to drop" feeling.
Oikawa is my kin because of how much I could relate to him and how real he felt. Oikawa isn't all "sugar" type character who is good and neither is he a "bitter" character who is a villain but instead he is grey, like how people actually are. And he does not deny his feelings. A lot of people I know hate him because he hated Kageyama but don't we all hate, even if a little bit, someone who makes us feel insecure/inferior? But he also believes in himself and works HARD to achieve his dreams and goals and I hope to be able to do that. I really do. I don't see Haikyuu characters as mere works of fiction but as real people whose stories continue to inspire and guide me day by day.
Good video, I've seen the contrasts between oikawa and Kageyama's characters in terms of skills but the way you phrase it as "their weaknesses are the others strength" (or something similar idk look at the script) sounded really cool and made it spark more passion for haikyuu
Always happy to see more Haikyuu content. A lot of times I end up not watching some videos because the genres are usually so different from what I generally watch, but you really make such great content.
Oikawa is a strange character in Haikyuu. The only way he is weaker than any of the other "monsters" is because he is explicitly said to be. For a setter, I don't think any coach in the world would choose any skills over that one talent he has: drawing out the best from his teammates.
I thought it fit too. I originally had a different track there though from the Haikyuu ost but it kept getting hit with copyright so I had to replace it
this channel is incredible with video essays. it puts more substance to the art people minimize to just cartoons. i like your evaluations and your way of presenting an idea is something to learn from.

I love how at the finale he becomes the final antagonist of the series when they fight during the Olympic ... Kinda fulfilling his role as the ultimate rival for hinata and kageyama... But i truly feel hinata when he suddenly meet oikawa at brazil, its the kind of feeling u have when u are homesick but u suddenly found someone familiar that it kinda cures your homesickness😢😢 the familiar feeling of hinata seeing oikawa... I felt that
I just want to say a few things in regard to kageyama being better than oikawa, at least on a mechanical level. 1. oikawa does not have a volleyball journal that he writes in where he plays close attention to how he feels every day 2. oikawa does not pay close attention to how his hand fits the ball every time he plays 3. he does not notice how his stomach feels while he plays 4. he does not notice the air is prickly when he is performing well. basically the point is, oikawa cant match kageyamas perfect precision because he doesnt practice this aspect of the game perfectly. Interestingly enough I think kageyama and oikawa are equals personally and the whole point of their characters are that they can do what the other cannot. Its a lot easier for people to understand how oikawa pays attention to the moods of the people he plays with, but not everyone would understand how eating energy gel would effect how your body moves that day or how focused your eyes are. I think this is why people consider kageyama a genius and oikawa not, simply because of what they can understand. on a last note I think kageyama probably started playing before oikawa so he may have more years of experience despite being 2 years younger. It is said that kageyama started playing in the 2nd grade but it never says when oikawa started, its possible oikawa started in middle schooler or maybe a year or 2 before. And the captain of inarizaki probably backs this up with his statement on geniuses. This is even further soldified with (spoilers) the quotes from the kamomedai coach, the only coach that worked with pros previously to our knowledge, and the one that took kamomedai to number 1 in japan. way too many people shit on oikawa putting him below kageyama without even thinking about what it means to be a good player or why.

4. Miyagi/Noya-Tanaka
- second year who simp to the manager club
5. Mitsui/Asahi
- a third year who seek redemption
6. Kogure/Sugawara
- a super sub
*only Tsuki seem to be original character that wasn't inspired from slam dunk
7. Ryonan/Seijoh
Considered as second best team within its prefecture
8. Sendoh/Oikawa
A player who considered had the closest quality to the best player in the prefecture
9. Uozumi/Iwaizumi
The only player that sendoh/oikawa would listen to
10. Fukuda/Maddog
A maverick who came back from suspension or an exile
11. Kainan/Shiratorizawa
The best team in the prefecture
12. Maki/Ushijima
The best player in the prefecture
13. Tendou/Nobunaga
The trash talker from the best team
So haikyuu was basically slam dunk but without blood and less steroids.
