- Cutting up my huge Ring of Fire to propagate was an experiment.. In this video I show you 8 months of updates on the cuttings and how it went with propagating in water, moss and perlite - plus the mama cuttings in soil. Have you ever propagated a Philodendron with such short internodes? Let me know!

That's amazing that you record the entire process that sometimes takes months and months, thanks to that I'm not left with dissatisfaction 😄 impressive amount od work and patience you've put into this project, fingers crossed for next ones 😉
Thank you very much!
I really like being able to see this whole process with the updates all in one video!!
Glad you like it!
Such great information! You are so different from all the other plant people on RUclips and I absolutely love how open and informative you are when it comes to making videos, thank you so much!!
Thank you very much! That's a lovely compliment ❤️
I just bought one so I needed to know more about this plant. This video is the first one I watch and I think it's great. All information about this plant is in the video. Thanks a lot.
Thank you very much!
Wow you needed a LOT of patience to propagete this plant! The cuttings look so cute!
Yes it took sooooo looonnngggg! But glad to have made several people happy with it in the end
I adore you for doing these videos over months and months!❤ I'm sure it takes a ton of patience! I had NO idea it took so long to propagate the ring of fire! I have the regular green form and was thinking about cutting it this spring. I assume it will be similar in the amount of time it takes to propagate??🤔
Haha thank you - it's been difficult to have an unfinished project in the back of my mind for so long!! The green one might be a bit easier, but take bigger cuts than I did and I'd recommend the water method after this. It's always fun to try!
Hi Lauren, I also have the green form and want to propagate. Have you tried it and could tell how it worked? My thesis based on my general knowledge of plants is that it might be easier but I'm not so sure.
@@kassandrastein4249 hi! Sorry to disappoint, but I still haven't had the nerve to try this yet, lol.. I definitely plan on trying this out this year though because even though it's really compact with the internodal spacing being so tight, it is getting to the point where I'll have to stake it soon and I'd rather keep this plant bushy instead of growing taller I think🤔
Very interesting, and so brave cutting that plant up😅 I air layered my verrucosum last year, had a fair amount of roots following removal of moss, so I potted it up in soil…. And it rotted! 🙈 fortunately the original plant exploded with new growth.
Love the videos, thanks 😊
I've had that too with verrucosum! They're very easy to rot, only a few cuttings out of many survived. So it's not you!
I have tried this - and i just have to remember keeping the moss moist!
I just ordered a young Ring of Fire and am waiting for it to arrive! Yours really grew fast! Very excited!
That's so exciting!!
Hey? If I get slime I mix peroxide an water an leave the cutting about 3 mins long enough too get ick off. Mushu is a gorgeous plant I’m sure the cuttings will go fast. 😀💚
Yeah that can work really well! Peroxide is awesome 🙌🏻❤️
@@plantwithroos Some times lol
Thank you for making this video which takes long time. I will try when my Philoden got too long.
Glad to hear you like it! 🙏🏻
What a beautiful plant. And your braver then I am. A hate plastic wrap
It was a challenge for sure!!
Your technique is BRILLIANT and you should pat yourself on the back. Thanks for sharing your genius. 🥰
Awww haha thanks very much! ♥️ I love plants and propagating and making videos!
I’ve seen people dust cinnamon powder on the cut portions of their props to help prevent rot
I know this trick but from what I've read, it only actually has anti fungal etc properties with pure real cinnamon, which is not what we buy in supermarkets. So it's a bit of a busted myth (sorry). As a powder it might still help dry the cut out quicker 🤷🏻♀️
Guys, give credits to her for this nice video!
Thank you for this! I have a very lanky Jungle Boogie that I haven’t been sure what to do with! I kind of want to chop it but was worried the propagations would be too awkward with the long leaves. It’s also long stemmed enough for a pole so thats another option I’ve considered so it’s nice to see you have yours supported by stakes!
It's tricky to decide what to do with them! But a stake works great 👌🏻 Good luck!
Super helpful video!! Thank you!!
Great to hear thanks!
And now I have the bottom of Mushu (plant3)! 😍 He has so many growth points hahaha I am so excited when he got his first leafs!
Yessss so cool! Please share updates with us (I'll repost them on my stories). Those bottom bits were the best in my opinion!!
Love this video! Very informative
Thank you very much!
Wow wishing I had put my ROF in water or perlite. I got a plant with giant leaves a year ago from a friend but the roots were small. While I was trying to re-root it I knocked off the newest leaf and ended up putting it in soil. I had a single solitary leaf for over a year before I got my activated node/newest leaf last month. Sooooo slowwwwwww.
Aaaaahhhh that sucks! They are really slow
Philodendron Ring Of Fire Super!!!! 🪴👍 Красавчик!
Hello Roos, how did you get rid of the trips? I had that twice and killed so many of my plants. Very painfull
Ah that sucks. I treat them with predatory bugs, I have several videos about it up here!
How are you supposed to water it and what do you give as fertilizer ?
Yes you water like you would the plant, or maybe let it dry out a bit less. Fertiliser I start giving once the plant starts actively growing!
How do I know I have left it long enough to dry before putting it in soil or other kind of substrate?
Check the cut, if it looks a bit dried you're good. Sometimes I don't even wait at all so it's not super necessary, just extra safe
Hiya Roos ❤
I have just recently bought a small ROF from tissue culture. However all of the leaves are either really light yellow or really light green 😢
There isn't any patches of variegation. I guess I'm asking if it's normal for a juvenile plant to be so light and pretty much all one color?
There's some swirls of darker green on a couple and the newest leaf has specs of red through it but that's honestly it so I'm really worried I have pretty much bought a reverted plant. I could upload a video of it to my channel if you like?
Hey, I'm not sure - it usually looks similar to a Thai constellation type of variegation but the very small ones might look different, I've seen them be all orange if I remember correctly.
Great video. Thanks. Is it typical to get multiple growth points? Was that due to rooting hormone? Do you think the original plant was from tissue culture?
Thank you ❤️ I don't know what's typical, I've never propagated them before. But I think it's not normal. Rooting hormone helps with root growth, no idea if/how it affects plant growth. No idea if it was from TC.
your plants are so big and beautiful, i wish.i could let mine get big
Thank you! Lots of light, fertilizer, support and love
😱 Poor Mushu!!
I’ve noticed that when propagating plants with large leaves, growers often cut off half the leaf so more energy can be diverted to producing new roots and nodes.
Just a thought for your next project. 😁
Thanks for documenting your process. 😸✌️
Yesss I've seen that done, especially at the botanic gardens. I didn't think to do that back then but have done it since with other plants. Great tip!
Hi great video as always! In hindsight, do you think it might have been better to make cuttings with two leaves? You might have lost a lower percentage and have faster growth?
Thank you! I think the most important changes i would make are having it airlayer longer, to actually get some good roots plus put them all in water instead of moss / perlite. Some of the cuts were too close together but I wouldn't say it needs to be 2 leaves. Just a bit thicker would be good. But I like to experiment so you guys don't have to! 😅❤️
@@plantwithroos Interesting. Thank you for your response and the experimenting!
I would love to buy a phantom from you
A phantom? I don't know what that is. And I only sell a few times per year, over on my instagram stories
Wait... I thought Ring of Fire didn't need mospoles? Now I'm confused. 😰
It does once it gets big! Well you can let it crawl too but I like support cos bigger leaves 👌🏻 most of the ones we think don't need it do when they get big
Well done! 🌻
Thank you very much!
💚💚
Thank you lovely!
How much did you pay for your ring of fire?
I paid 40€ back in 2019
She is so beautiful
Mushu the plant you mean? Or me haha! 💁🏻♀️😎
i cant get rid of thrips
they suck. I keep finding them too so you're not alone. You'll see in this weeks video :(
