Sometimes I think you’re too trusting of vendors 😂 Podcast idea: have an art historian or art restorer (so many on RUclips!) come on to talk about how to spot authentic vintage paintings, originals vs reproductions, etc at flea markets. Would be a cool concept to expand to other areas of decor too: authentic MCM furniture, for example, or authentic Persian rugs. I think you and your followers would all learn something!
100% agree. theres so many fakes out there now that are so hard to tell apart from genuinely old art. Sellers buy gorgeous frames from Mexico that are distressed and made to look old, and factory reproduction oil paintings (that have impasto and mimic the real deal) and do all the things to make them appear to be much older than they really are.

This is an unfortunate truth to vintage flea markets. I have had my eyebrows raised when Macenna ( and Drew sometimes) say they bought an antique item for under $50. I'm Canadian and at first I just thought items were cheaper or more plentiful in the U.S.
Don’t get me started on this Olive Atelier place they are obsessed with right now. If you believe those gigantic vases etc are vintage and came from Turkey you are insane!
That table is stunning, I hope you purchased that. What a fun vlog!! I often thought how fascinating it would be to have the owner of Olive Ateliers for your podcast, talking about origin\history of the pieces and uses in decor design etc.

I have to say, loved the budget podcast episode! Not only was it refreshing, it was incredibly helpful. It helped me wrap my head around the the whole “house Reno/building” project. As someone who is very interested in designing my space, it’s crucial almost to know how much things cost!

The teeny tiny frames that you were looking for....... you're very good with wood, take a frame that you love 💕 and cut it down and make it any size you want 😊 then order your mom's paintings in the size that the frame you ended up with 😁
If anyone didn’t know, and wanted to know, what a hummingbird sounded like, it’s those squeaks and chirps during the haul!! Not used to background noise in Macenna’s vids, so I thought initially it was from my backyard 🤩 I’m sure we’ll hear more thanks to her GORGEOUS garden 🌸🌷

Happy Easter to you and your family...I got an old checker board that is over a 100 years old that belonged to my aunt and I got when she passed away..It had belonged to her father and is all wood..I also got a lot of galvanized buckets, watering can and pails also belonged to my uncle that was gifted to me when my aunt died..

The chess set is so precious. I think you could diy a repair on the chipped bishop. Like maybe make a mold with the other ones and try to maybe create a fill with resin or other material with the broken one. Either match it up or go with something different like gold specks floating or just gold like kintsugi style

Vicariously enjoying your thrifting so much! We downsized and live in a much smaller house - had to give up so many things so I can’t do any home decor thrifting myself. But that makes me appreciate your trips to flea markets even more.
I bought 10 stunning old books yesterday and as soon as I saw them I was like omg mcenna would love these! Lady wanted 50p a book so I bought them all - got them home & started looking at them & researching them and they were from 1880's so nearly 150 years old 🤩 one was written in French called ' stories from my windmill ' and just instantly thought of you
I loved the stool display too! Just something about it looked extra special. And the 2 TALL arch doors. 😮
Watching anything that has to do with Olive Ateliers has my feels all Atelier-ered LOL. I’ve never been but it would be a such a dream come true to go.

By the way, I thought the "little girl" at 12:13 was Sissi, the empress of Austria, but it seems to be a portrait of Madame Rimsky-Korsakov by Franz Xaver Winterhalter (who actually was famous for his paintings of Sissi). The last furniture piece you showed would be perfect in the entry room of your new home. It is so gorgeous I don’t think I would turn it into a vanity for a bathroom. I would miss the beautiful drawers.

You could turn the front room into an art gallery/ library for all your spare art and books. I'd put a couple of comfortable chairs in front of the fireplace with a games table and the chess set.

FYI: Be careful with some of those vintage Willy Guhl planters, they are made from a material called “eternit,” and a lot of those were manufactured during a time when that material actually contained asbestos, which is of course highly carcinogenic. So actually putting food or burning firewood in there-aside from decorative purposes-might not be the best idea 😉. (I’m from Switzerland, where Willy Guhl was from, and this is common knowledge here.) Love your videos btw ❤😊

Regarding the painting of the woman that you purchased: framers still use nails to attach finished canvases to stretchers even today. The attachment isn't done very professionally, so it's possible the artist did it or perhaps an amateur framer. I doubt the painting is from the 1800's as you were told. Based on the condition of the back side of the canvas, it looks probable it was done somewhere between the 1940's - 1980's, but the fact that it's so incredibly clean makes me wonder if it's on the "newer" side (however, if the canvas has a liner glued to the back, this would make it appear newer, although I seriously doubt this canvas is lined). I suspect this is a copy painted by a student, so you might want to take a picture of it and then do a Google image search to see if the original pops up in the results. The painting appears clean and doesn't look like it has a layer of varnish. The frame itself is not super old and I would place it into the period of 1920's - 1940's. I'm not sure this frame is original to the painting, though. If you're going to keep this piece, I'd suggest you take it to a professional framer as there are some issues that need to be addressed.

EDIT: Because I was curious, I did a Google Lens search and did find the original, but no title. The original appears to possibly be a painting of Marie Antoinette in a lilac colored dress. So yes, it's definitely a student copy as I suspected. Bottom line: don't trust that seller when s/he tells you the age of their pieces!
My mom had that same painting of the little girl and it was so precious ❤ she absolutely loved that painting.

I hope you see this MaCenna, I was just watching the newest video from a girl I follow in England.( She and her now husband are also remodeling a hundred plus years old house.) Her channel is named after her,”Laura Melhuish- Sprague” This video is about them spending the weekend at a large antique fair,she bought old pottery,prints,etc. and was picking up old books,sound familiar?😉 Anyway, the first comment on there right now was from someone in France who listed their favorite ten flea markets in France, along with how often they happen,which are high end,etc. (thought you might be interested for your next trip.🥰)

You could set up a couple of chairs with a small table with the chess set on it in front of the fire place in your entry room.
In your front room in front of the bay window or in front of the fireplace would be a good place for a couple wing back chairs with the chessboard in between. On a small table of course.
