T-Mike - I have an Evinrude 1959 5 1/2 that hasn't probably ran since Nixon was Vice President. I changed everything coils, points, condenser, carb rebuild, paint, decals, impeller, gears EVERYTHING! Compression was about 70 lbs each cylinder with 2 pulls. Single line conversion.
Can't start it by pulling handle so I use 1/2" cordless drill. Still won't start. Tried electric drill & VOILA it started!
Only problem is I can ONLY start with electric drill - can't take it with me on the water - electric cord not long enough!
Runs great and it can sorta idle but dies when lowest setting on tiller. I thought it might be a bad flywheel magnet but checked it and it's strong. No apparent leaks (head, muffler cover, valve plate). Please help! I'm solid grey - when I started working on this I was a brunette!

Sounds like weak spark. When you increase the pulling speed it increases spark level. Check spark for 1/4” gap with the tester I use.

Great video Mike, someone was asking about german made coils. My Evinrude has a couple on it which was surprising, but I heard they are pretty good.

I love your videos. Quick question. What are the three bolt sizes needed to pull the flywheel off 1974 Johnson 40 horsepower? Think I need to check the points and maybe order some parts from your website. Thank you so much!

I used your tune up kit on the 1956 10hp Evinrude I’m restoring. Thanks for the products and videos. However, once I put the flywheel back on it partially rotates before it catches on the cam throttle control and won’t turn any further. Any suggestions?

@@brellavideos3850 yes your coils must be rubbing on flywheel / did you use a coil locator ring to position coils correctly?

Hey t mike I got a question you may or may not be able to answer. I have a older 25 evinrude I belive it's a 75 model. Some times il be running at wot and everything is fine. When I back off the throttle at a certain point my rpms shoot down to just above idling then when I try to speed up again it's like the motor just wont throttle up until it randomly decides to catch and then will run fine again at wot

Sounds like one cylinder is losing spark. Try changing points. I sell the tuneup kit.

Quick question,so my current coils have a nearly flush magnet on the top but my new ones have them sticking out and seem to be rubbing the flywheel,is there a real difference between the two? Just wondering if I can use either one
