Pre-Oct.7th I didn't know anything about Israel and Palestine in a historical context but have read so much and listened to a gazillion interviews of professionals and journalists videos, viewed maps of Palestine pre-1948. Now I conclude I am 100% against the formation of a Jewish state from the get go evicting Palestinians off their land in the 1940's. I think Israel is a sick and cloistered society. It should become 1 state of Palestine with Jews, Muslims and Christians all living together like N. J., or 2 states within 1 state or 2 separate states with the West Bank going 100% to Palestinians.
simply from studying all this since 1948, I see how messed up Israel is, however, curious where you were able to find maps. The best I could do is find maps to just prior to this invasion on 1946. Israelis keep saying this their land re 7th century, etc.

Cenk you have just done what Israel are trying to do been economical with the Truth. When Turkey invaded Cyprus it was an independent state. Turkish Cypriots numbered 18% of the population descended from the Ottomans. Greek Cypriots were 80% mostly descended from the indigenous people. 2% were Armenian and Maronites. Turkey leased Cyprus to Britain in exchange for fighting the Russians in the late 1800s and ceceeded it to Britain after WW1. It wasn't Greek and Turkish it was Cypriot of ethnic backgrounds. Kissinger encouraged a coup and then the Turkish invasion to establish a western presence because he believed Britain were going to leave. They didn't leave and Turkey is illegally occupying the North. At no point did they take the whole island and then give 60% back. By trying to act like Turkey did the right thing it hasn't. It occupied 37% it is no better than Israel. Turkey implanted main land Turks who have turned Turkish Cypriots into second class citizens.
I've cried many tears for what's happening in Palestine. I've felt huge anger towards the IDF who film themselves whilst joyfully committing war crimes but the video that really triggered me was a newsagents shop in Israel, where the shops CCTV filmed a bunch of IDF soldiers walking in and approaching two little (probably five or six years old) boys with their mum, pick one of those boys out and systematically bully him. There was something satanic about the enjoyment one particular soldier had whilst terrifying this small child. And it was the look of fear on his mothers face because she knew if she stepped in to protect her son, there would be consequences.

The British had a policy known as "de-housing". It was the targeted killing of civilians in Germany - the workers. They bombed at night because they didn't need to see a target. The whole town was the target. Was that OK? Are you upset with the outcome that helped to produce? If you're gonna take these positions on moral grounds, you have to be consistent or else we can dismiss your moral argument
No, that was not ''okay'' either, hence the Geneva Convention of 1949 & the Genocide Convention of 1949. This is why it is highly offensive to compare others' atrocities to somehow attempt to 'defend' your own, when you do this, you have already lost the moral argument.
It was a controversial policy at the time. The allies expended a considerable amount of effort working out what worked and what didn't work post war- and they themselves determined that bombing civilians out of their homes made very little difference to the outcome - bombing factories did make a big difference. Furthermore, post war, Albert Speer claimed that the Allies were *very* close to shutting down production - and that the switch to bombing civilian targets gave Germany a chance to rebuild their production capacity, thus prolonging the war.
There's no way to prosecute a war against a government without a lot of civilians dying. Indeed, to be consistent you would have to leave a lot of other governments in place too. Or is Hamas just so special?

Their land? Says who? Up until when the UN partitioned the land, the Jews did not take a single inch of land from the Arabs. They bought the land from the land owners. Even when the UN partitioned the land, the Jews needed to agree to a country that has over 40% Arabs in the territory that was allocated to them, and most of it was desert. The land allocated for the Arabs had nearly no Jews.
Why did the local Arabs accept Jordan (also part of the Palestinian mandate) being given to the Hashemite monarchy?
@@MutantNinjaDonut
They lost over half "their" land to Jordan. Why did they not protest this?
If the occupation started 75 years ago, I take it no Israel should not exist?
If the occupation started 56 years ago, Israel is allowed to exist.
Or is the 18 years of Jordanian and Egyotian occupation counted as Israeli occupation?

PLO already arrested all of Hamas back in the day, and was willing to negotiate the two states, but Israel never offered anything with borders and air space and sea rights. Finally they assassinated Arafat.
In fact, both Israel and the USA blocked the approval of a UN recognized Palestine. Palestinians have tried and tried.
You’re full of it. Arafat died of natural causes. Look it up.
What makes me so despondent is that this man is willing to listen, does not feel attacked and yet does not want or cannot see the facts and prefers to stay in his own way of thinking. Everything is because of Hamas. There is so much evidence of what Israel has done wrong. I have my doubts that it will ever work out.
The entire conflict makes sense if you consider Hamas a sociopathic death cult group that wants to maximize Israels suffering

the whole concept of Israel is just wrong on so many levels, seeing europeans pretending to be from the middle east is just gross. England is to blame for all of this...

Good job, Cenk. Thanks for having this discussion. It will have enormous resonance.
@@marguerX I read the history of the Palestinians granted it was Wikipedia, it said Palestinians have been on that land traced back 3,700 years. Also, if you read New York Times articles from 1940's they refer to the region as Palestine. Many maps that I found pre 1948 list the land that as now Israel as Palestine.

Yes the land definitely prior to Israel state was Palestine I just can’t find anyone naming it Palestine (perhaps a different story), but good to hear you were able to go back that far. It was supposed to be a peaceful region.

I could kinda pin point when my mind turned. A video appeared where a journalist had two babies he found after they’ve been bombed. One child was bloodied and crying. The other wasn’t older than two. That baby obviously had some breathing injury and could barely breathe. I was out afterwards. Done! No kids! No kids! No! It’s not right when anyone does it. I automatically saw every child I’ve ever cared for in life

You get rid of Hams fighters by Treating the Palestinians as humans with respect and giving them a state. Israel takes only does not give.
Thats the recipe for October 7th. They don't want a state they want it all.
@ 32:30 "In a very 'MINOOT' way I try to feel what they're feeling". So in essence he doesn't relate or feel anything for the Palestinians. Wow...

This kinda stuff is hard to watch sometimes but I am glad that this was handled with care and kindness it shows that Cenk is a perfectly reasonable and objective debater when he is being treated with basic respect and decency in return. (at least so far I'm 19 min in that could all change very quickly, I guess 😅😅)
I especially liked the way in which he very gently pointed out the way that alot of these talking points are more propaganda for the other side than for their own.
The things they say out loud looking into a camera live with their full chest look much worse than any propaganda Hamas could have come up with.
27:08 "I'm not using 2000 pound bombs YET?" What do you mean yet?
34:36 bro, they bombed FOOD WORKERS, people who had corresponded with the IDF. Literally, they knew who they were bombing, and yet they did anyways

Ok he's repeating over and over and over the same propaganda, trying to smear the victim. More lies aren't going to swing anyone
If you look good you see the boy had a picture of a gun on his shirt they took the shirt and went
Did you cry on October 7?
@@efi5953 That's not the same as the bully who approached him having a real gun is it.
Any Israeli over 14 years old are considered combatants and IDF recruits in war time. Even non wartime every Israeli over 16 years old have to enlist in IDF so whether they are active duty or reservist they are valid targets for Hamas according to IDF standards.

This is why it is highly offensive to compare others' atrocities to somehow attempt to 'defend' your own,
when you do this, you have already lost the moral argument.
Finally a reasonable discussion
Cenk you’re good.
