Bullshit you don't know anything about Israel or palestine if you did you'd know the exact opposite is true. That under the dome of the rock is the Jewish temple. You people are soo sick for lying about history. Israel has been Jewish for thousands of years before the first Muslim was ever born. Tell me who the first leader of palestine was ?

It is always an honor to hear Rashid Khalidi speak. I’m always getting an education on history concerning the Middle East , his historical perspectives are always phenomenal!
They ended their future October 7. That marked the day all chances of statehood ended. Welcome to reality. We gave them many opportunities to be a state. They chose war over peace. They made their bed. Now they must sleep in it. They hitched their horses to Jihad. This was a poor decision.
@@TheOldTurds-c7c Yes, for Israel! 🇵🇸 Palestine will be one state from the river to the sea with democracy, UNIVERSAL human rights for EVERYONE, as BEFORE for many thousands of years. He's were always welcome. Europe has always been anti Jew, never west Asia.
Dr. Khalidi respectfully forgets that israel doesn't care about public opinion, it cares about public (in)action. The lack of action by world leaders only encourages Israel to be bolder in their ambitions.
I hear what you were saying and personally speaking it causes me a lot of anguish as I watch my own government do virtually nothing in the face of a genocide. That said, it is undeniable that the younger demographic overwhelmingly condemn Israel's military conduct and I believe this will eventually be reflected in future western governments as the old guard gives way to the new. I feel there is reason for hope but there will be many dark days and probably years still ahead.
@@bendybruce my fear is that when the younger demographic reaches a position of power and influence, it will already be too late. We need action NOW, not in 20 years
I would disagree on their lack of action, the action of Western world leaders is to give aid military and financial to Israel while maybe sometimes talking about a ceasefire. Which is a deliberate contradiction, if they wanted a ceasefire they should stop the military aid (especially the US). They are as invested and complicit in the genocide and occupation as Israel is
Great interview!! Isn't it insane that we live in a world where logical thought is so inverted that Mr Khalidi describing something so obvious is an 'opposing' view to the current situation in West Asia!
This was a fantastic interview, thanks for doing it. You have a gracious way of asking intelligent questions and I'm glad you pose challenging problems that you've heard from the other side of an issue.
Great effort of Rashid Khalidi to put a human face to this really dire and obscure times. His last remarks on victimhood are really profound. In spite of all the pain, there are many Israelis and Palestinians who are able to talk to each other and to understand each other. Peace is not a dirty word. Those who are the strongest are choosing that path, they are the guiding light. Talking to the one who is different and trying to find a common ground is the bravest thing that can be done right now. Thanks for a great interview. Let’s continue protesting and challenging the mainstream narrative. Thanks for this interview.

I really get angry when we discuss whether genocide is being committed or not. A certain state is bombing a place where half of the population is children, and per day on average more than 10 children are losing a limb, and over 42.000 people die due to the heavy bombardment of that certain state. And meanwhile we, from our safe homes, are trying to figure out what to call this!!! As asked by Jerusalem-born Miko Peled, ''Are we out of our minds? ARE WE OUTSIDE OF OUR MINDS ???
I appreciate what you say but Dr Khalidi was very careful and correct to point out that genocide is a legal term. The significance will be whether CJ rules on it. The ramifications of that (eg arrest warrants, ban on member states assisting etc.) are what's important but sadly only in the long run. In the meantime we as citizens can decide we condemn the action of Israel as we should condemn Hamas for war crimes as Dr Khalidi pointed out.
There isn't genocide. It's rather annoying people think it is. The truth is that the ICJ will eventually tell the world there is no genocide, but unfortunately I already know what the world's response will be. Of those 42,000 dead people are at a minimum 20,000 Hamas. Hamas spent 35 years turning the Stirp into a terror based with their #1 objective to ensure maximum civilian death. Not 1 bomb shelter built, embed military installations behind, within and underneath civilians such as schools, playgrounds, children's bedrooms, mosques hospitals, etc, and lastly refuse to allow even one child to seek refuse in their over 700 miles of terror tunnels. #1. That Civilian Death Ratio is far lower than numerous instances of modern warfare, including Iraq, where the ration was 77%. #2. Israel takes enormous effort to minimize civilian death, more so than any military has done in history vie pamphletting, leafletting, phone calls, emails, text messages, loudspeaker, and roof knocking. #3. The ratio would be even lower If Hamas did not use the civilian population as camouflage. ie if they put on their uniforms and did not hold civilians as human shields. Sinwar himself came out and said, just recently, the more civilians' deaths the better for Hamas. They have also made it clear that they worship death more so than Jews worship life. Ther are, in the literal sense, a death cult. It's as if you walk through life with blinders on.

If an old wise man tells you that something really hard can be done, you can fully trust his judgment. If, however, he tells you that it can't be done, assume that he might be wrong.
9:37 May 21, 2011 was the beginning of judgement day on the world - that message was proclaimed loudly and clearly throughout the entire world - you were WARNED Mr Khalidi said he does not see the bible connection of ancient Israel carried 2000 years later (nor should he). Mark 11;13,14 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find anything thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter forever. And his disciples heard it. That was the end of the ancient nation of Israel. God made them a proverb and a byword, he divorced ancient Israel as his chosen people. Matthew 24;32 Now learn the parable of the fig tree; When his branches are yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, know ye that summer is nigh. Mark 13;28 Now learn the parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near. This is when the proverb and byword become a sign to the churches of summer. The "fig tree" was once again a nation (1948, modern nation of Israel; nothing but a sign) It was time to look for summer... 1974 the biblical calendar was unsealed and published. May 21, 1988 The Holy Spirit left the churches for their destruction. September 7, 1994 The latter rain began outside any organized religion (they held corrupt gospels). The great multitude were being saved from peoples, nations and tongues scattered all over the world. SUMMER The true and faithful gospel was preached by the elect who had come out of the churches. ( and NO, they are not in the modern nation of Israel ) May 21, 2011 on the 17th day of the 2cnd month exactly 7000 years to the selfsame day (17th day of 2cnd month in 4990BC) after God shut the door to the ark, He shut the door to heaven. All of his elect had become saved. Alleluia. It was necessary for the precise dates to be known so that the trumpet could be sounded loudly and clearly for the last of the elect to hear. God made it happen exactly as the times and seasons written were fulfilled. GO look up: Ebible2 timelines or Ebiblefellowship for many archived bible studies or questions spoiler alert: 'last day' = 2033
Of course it is. you believe Israel has no right to exist. Yet, you condemn Israel for defending itself and for not negotiating with people who feel the same way you do! I can't imagine why Israel would not negotiate with people who believe they have no right to exist, and who 's codified raison d'etre - written in their own Charter - is the annihilation of Israel, and who will breach any peace agreement the first chance they get. Are you aware that the Hamas Charter makes it a crime to even consider peaceful negotiations with Israel? Yes, they say all such people will burn in hell. Hamas is clear, they will never negotiate peace with Israel, and that they exist to make Israel cease to exist. Hezbollah's 1985 Open Letter is the same. They are mere puppets to Iran who's #1 objective is the annihilation of Israel, not statehood for Palestinians. If you think Iran care a shit about Sunni Palestinians, you're not following the bouncing ball in the Middle East. Iran is responsible for the death and starvation of MILLIONS of Sunnis throughout the ME, but especially in Yemen and Syria. Yet you think Iran has risked it's national wellbeing and safety to rescue Sunni Muslims who live in Palestine? LOL. Hey, I'm selling bridges this weekend too.
The suffering of the people of Gaza is unspeakable; it's horrendous. We have exhausted the vocabulary of the English language in order to describe what has befallen Gaza 🇵🇸♥️😪🇵🇸♥️😪
@chfHerze. Yes, agree that it's horrendous that Hamas will not allow the Jordanians and Egyptians occupying Gaza to flee to safety when Israel is returning fire due to the constant rockets fired and because of the horrendous acts by Hamas (supported by the Gaza civilians) on Oct 7. Also horrendous, the Yazidi girl held captive by the noble muslims in Gaza. The nightmare that has befallen Gaza is Hamas who were voted in by the people of Gaza.

It’s sad that Rashid is trying to walk this fine line of not calling Gaza a concentration camp, yet trying to articulate the atrocities in a valid way. He’s doing this to maintain his legitimacy as a historian while trying to defend the personal affronts this conflict has weighed on him. It is absolutely a concentration camp, you cannot go in or out, food and water are controlled, civilians are put on a diet, no healthcare. It’s a concentration camp that’s missing the gas chambers, and in today’s world, that’s how you commit a genocide. Through starvation and disease. It’s the only politically feasible way.
A means of exterminating the inmates of a camp is not required for it to fall under the definition of a concentration camp. That would make it an extermination camp, for which the arguments might be there. It could also be that this is his view, and that he finds the label "concentration camp" too mild. But I agree, this was a strange statement for him to make without any further explanation or argumentation. Because it certainly look like a textbook definition of a concentration camp. If it is the case that he finds it too much of a loaded term, it contradicts his point about the Israeli victimhood complex. By gatekeeping these words you automatically play in to that narrative of exceptionalism.
I agree, but I woudn't condem him He is though failing to make the distinction bewteen a concentration camp and a death camp. The Nazis had both. Israel has concentration camps, by any plain understanding of the meaning of that term
awesome man, thanks for doing this. the things i’ve heard about Rashid have led me to believe he might be the type that blindly defends the Palestinians and won’t acknowledge any faults or mistakes on their part. this conversation clearly shows that he is very fair and respectful to both peoples, which is what we need so badly. i’m much more on the side of the Palestinian cause and their fight for equal rights and equal humanity, and i think the best advocates are the ones who can be honest about the failures of both peoples and who are clear-eyed about the conflict as a whole.
Thank you. I am so tired of people in the people around me ignoring reality by throwing up their hands and using the "religious war"/both sides talking point. I have been telling folks who are curious to look at Balfour, and go from there forward.
@pickyourswithcoriginal. Perhaps you are ignoring reality. The muslim holy book instructs believers to strike at the Jews many times. Palestinians are predominately Arab speaking muslims so it is very much a religious war. Nearly all Palestinian Christians by the way are living in the West or Israel proper because you know muslims often have problems with non muslims.
I find it interesting that Khalidi does not see gaza as a concentration camp saying ‘well because people are put into concentration camps to be put to death’ and that’s not always true. The US and Canada had concentration camps they called internment camps where they put Japanese, Germans and Italians during WWII. A concentration camp is simply a place where people are concentrated. Prisons are places where criminals are concentrated for example. The history of concentration camps should not exclude the many reservations created to concentrate native Americans.

Dr. Khalidi was almost cracking down when you asked him what he sees for the future of Palestine, it almost made ME cry. Thank you, great interview!
Thank you!
They ended their future October 7. That marked the day all chances of statehood ended. Welcome to reality. We gave them many opportunities to be a state. They chose war over peace. They made their bed. Now they must sleep in it. They hitched their horses to Jihad. This was a poor decision.

Same feeling here. But we can’t give in to hopelessness.
Dr. Khalidi respectfully forgets that israel doesn't care about public opinion, it cares about public (in)action. The lack of action by world leaders only encourages Israel to be bolder in their ambitions.
You do bad things ( 7th october 2023 )and reclaim for world leaders to applause you ???
I hear what you were saying and personally speaking it causes me a lot of anguish as I watch my own government do virtually nothing in the face of a genocide. That said, it is undeniable that the younger demographic overwhelmingly condemn Israel's military conduct and I believe this will eventually be reflected in future western governments as the old guard gives way to the new. I feel there is reason for hope but there will be many dark days and probably years still ahead.
So very true, unfortunately

Wow, very good conversation! Thank you for letting me discover Professor Rashid Khalidi, he is so knowledgable and eloquent.
There is no genocide.
The war in gaza or WW 2 have nothing to do with genocide if we talk about intent. Everybody does their own job and that is dangerous
42,000 after 10/7.
Before 10/7 the Palestinian population doubled in the past 10 years.
No genocide.

Nothing more racist than Arab society. The slang term for blacks is slave.
During the Jordanian occupation of East Jerusalem, they expunged people they did not like.
people's rights to life and freedom depend on them accepting the right of others to life and freedom
as the so called "balestinians" can't accepts jews' , israelis' and basically anyone else's right to life and freedom, they shouldn't cry when israel retaliates agains their barbaric, inhumane actions
He's a colonist (a non-Native American living on Native American soil) telling the world that Jews (including Mizrahi Jews who are indigenous to the Middle East) are uniquely disgusting for creating a very tiny Jewish-majority liberal democracy with 2.1 million Arab citizens who are wealthier and freer than most Arabs in the Middle East.

If an old wise man tells you that something really hard can be done, you can fully trust his judgment. If, however, he tells you that it can't be done, assume that he might be wrong.
9:37 May 21, 2011 was the beginning of judgement day on the world - that message was proclaimed loudly and clearly throughout the entire world - you were WARNED
Mr Khalidi said he does not see the bible connection of ancient Israel carried 2000 years later (nor should he).
Mark 11;13,14
And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find anything thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter forever. And his disciples heard it.
That was the end of the ancient nation of Israel. God made them a proverb and a byword, he divorced ancient Israel as his chosen people.
Matthew 24;32
Now learn the parable of the fig tree; When his branches are yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, know ye that summer is nigh.
Mark 13;28
Now learn the parable of the fig tree; When her branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near.
This is when the proverb and byword become a sign to the churches of summer. The "fig tree" was once again a nation (1948, modern nation of Israel; nothing but a sign)
It was time to look for summer...
( and NO, they are not in the modern nation of Israel )
May 21, 2011 on the 17th day of the 2cnd month exactly 7000 years to the selfsame day (17th day of 2cnd month in 4990BC) after God shut the door to the ark, He shut the door to heaven. All of his elect had become saved. Alleluia.
It was necessary for the precise dates to be known so that the trumpet could be sounded loudly and clearly for the last of the elect to hear. God made it happen exactly as the times and seasons written were fulfilled.

Rashid Khalid you’re such an important voice armed with your understanding of history thank you for speaking so sensibly pls keep talking 🫶🏼💗
Kudos to Mr. Khalidi. What a great historian he is.
Either you don't know what a concentration camp is or you don't know what Gaza was like before this war. Not the same. Just letting you know.
I agree, but I woudn't condem him
He is though failing to make the distinction bewteen a concentration camp and a death camp. The Nazis had both. Israel has concentration camps, by any plain understanding of the meaning of that term
You should have Ali Abunimah or Max Blumenthal on the podcast talking about October 7.

awesome man, thanks for doing this. the things i’ve heard about Rashid have led me to believe he might be the type that blindly defends the Palestinians and won’t acknowledge any faults or mistakes on their part. this conversation clearly shows that he is very fair and respectful to both peoples, which is what we need so badly. i’m much more on the side of the Palestinian cause and their fight for equal rights and equal humanity, and i think the best advocates are the ones who can be honest about the failures of both peoples and who are clear-eyed about the conflict as a whole.
My pleasure!
Mr Khalidi should mention that hundreds of the civilians killed on Oct 7th died at the hands of the IOF. I find this essential.
Excellent interview! Merci Thank You Gracias
Outstanding once again!
Palestine was never born. And never will 🇮🇱
I find it interesting that Khalidi does not see gaza as a concentration camp saying ‘well because people are put into concentration camps to be put to death’ and that’s not always true.
