I am Jewish but I feel great pain for both Palestinians and Israelis. I read Prof. Khalidi's book based on a recommendation from an orthodox rabbi (who was born in Israel and now lives in the U.S.)! I had some issues with the book when I read it (e.g. no mention of all the Jews who were "expelled" from Egypt and Arab countries - about 900,000 I am told, including my ex-wife's family), so I very much appreciate this interview. I think the professor provides excellent history lessons and I appreciate that he acknowledges the pains that Jews have suffered for over 2,000 years. I would love to hear what his ideas are for a peaceful "solution" to this horrible mess. I believe it is a blight on the failure of governments - especially Britain and the U.S.) and the U.N. to have allowed this situation to exist and fester. Yes, "two peoples" with two states (or one if they prefer) but who have equal rights. It is so sad that about 12+ million people, many of them intelligent, family-oriented, loving people, cannot live either side-by-side, or together, and "make their world (and ours ) a better place for all. Too many lives are being wasted when they should be creating and innovating and helping their families, their economies and their "peoples".

In fact Palestine does not exist. @@rolandthethompsongunner64 You did miss something. Prof Khalidi described why the Palestinians are resisting Israeli, and it's not because they're Jews. He uses the hypothetical of Nationalist Danes invading Palestinian lands instead of the Zionists. The Palestinians wouldn't resist based on religion (roughly 20% of Palestinians are Christians), but because resistance to land theft is a natural response to others stealing your land. And your implication that "Muslims" groom their children is rather Islamophobic, and wrong historically. Again, Palestinians are resisting their Occupation, just as the Irish resisted the British occupation. Religion is incidental (though making a good dividing line for lazy thinkers.)

“I want my legs back,” the girl cried in Arabic. “I want my legs back.” You can’t have your legs back, little girl. They have been eaten by a hungry machine who needs them for fuel to power its gears. The machine needs your legs to keep the sky raining bombs and to make its death robots fly. Your legs power the bulldozers digging mass graves and the tanks blowing holes in the hospitals. A glorious kingdom is held together by the amputated limbs of children. A pentagon-shaped castle is built from the bones of the amputated limbs of children. Wall Street werewolves and bank boys dine on the amputated limbs of children. Movie stars treat their wrinkles with creams made from the amputated limbs of children. Suburban families prop up their smiles with the amputated limbs of children. The news man lies and in his eyes you see the amputated limbs of children. The podium man smirks and between his teeth are the amputated limbs of children. And the little girl cries, and the news man ignores her, and the podium man smirks at her, and the bank boy bites her, and the machine rolls on, limbs fed into its furnace with pitchforks, crushing houses and blackening the sky, poisoning the oceans and bloodying the earth, while the air fills with the crying of children, for limbs that will never come back, for homes that will never come back, for mothers that will never come back, for childhoods that will never come back, for brightness that will never come back, for innocence that will never come back, for dreams that will never come back, for joy that will never come back. And we are here, eating cheesy meatcarbs and watching funny haw-haws and gossiping and prattling and wishing we looked better and trying not to think about all the tiny arms and legs we see covering the earth whenever we step outside. twitter.com/afshinrattansi/status/1768566917055295873 www.caitlinjohnst.one/p/the-amputated-limbs-of-children
It is very rare to hear a Palestinian speaking without hatred about the conflict. We need to dispassionate the debate to see things right. To start to trust each other. Lack of trust is at the root of the problem. A one state solution could be possible giving equal rights for both people if we feel that the will to leave is stronger than the will to die for political or nationalist reasons. These two people have a common ancestor and they could show that their union could make them stronger and better

as a Palestinian in Gaza his family refugeed from masmyea village 1948
Dr. Khalidi, you have a moral responsibility as a Palestine scholar to be more present on social media as an academic. Please continue the education of the public especially the american public. Thank you.

Greetings from Spain! I enjoyed so much this conversation with the professor of Columbia University.
My knowledge on this conflict was broadened!
Thanks for this opportunity.
Thank you both!
This was such a beautiful conversation.
Ireland here. This is what education should be like.
💚🇮🇪💚🇵🇸💚🇿🇦💚
We know from several CENTURIES of occupation, dispossession and repression my sept’s lands in Gleannfeisc
The Irish aren’t Muslims. Ridiculous comparison. The Irish don’t groom their children to become martyrs. Unless I missed something?
Excellent Interview 😊WatchShare😊😊😊😊
very educational. thank you both.
This was so informative and helpful - thank you
I've read two of his books. He's clear and insightful.
I just read his book and I'm so happy you interviewed him. It helped me re-summarize the book very well and burn it into my memory, as well as he gives great new insights on his writing in this video. Thank you!
The most comprehensive analysis of the Palestinian issue, factual, historical and intelligent!
I'm so glad I listened to this interview. I learned a lot. Next step will be reading the professors' book. Thank you!
Fabulous interview. Amazing professor. Brilliant individual.
Just started listening to Professor Rashidi's book a little while ago and came across this video. Thanks for sharing it Tom, it's very beneficial and I'll be sharing it
Thank you Tom ❤
Thank you! So grateful. It's these podcasts that help open the path to essential immediate change.
I’m a Hispanic with Jewish lenient on my father side. I know nothing of this conflict, but I was interested to learn more about it so I asked an Israeli. I told him that I know it’s a complicated situation and he replied “ no it’s not complicated at all. It’s very simple , Israelis expect Palestinians to get up and leave Palestinian Territories so the Israelis occupy them and Palestinians fight back and that’s why you have the conflict.”
Thank you for shedding light on this.
Thanks Tom for this ❤
What an amazingly detailed, nuanced and necessary discussion. Thank you very much for this. Free Free Palestine! 🇵🇸

It is unbelievable how little of the truth is known. I now believe that most news we consume is generated by PR concerns.
You won’t get this perspective in the mainstream media!
Yet Allah never mentions Palestine even once. Still calls the land Israel
The mainstream media is full of propaganda that is controlled by corporate interests… and corporate interests also control government, because the US is an oligarchy, not a democracy!
Other excellent channels for truth: the Intercept, The Real News Network (especially with Chris Hedges), electric intifada, Katie Halper, Zeteo.

“I want my legs back,” the girl cried in Arabic.
“I want my legs back.”
You can’t have your legs back, little girl.
They have been eaten by a hungry machine
who needs them for fuel to power its gears.
The machine needs your legs to keep the sky raining bombs
and to make its death robots fly.
Your legs power the bulldozers digging mass graves
and the tanks blowing holes in the hospitals.
A glorious kingdom is held together
by the amputated limbs of children.
A pentagon-shaped castle is built from the bones
of the amputated limbs of children.
Wall Street werewolves and bank boys dine
on the amputated limbs of children.
Movie stars treat their wrinkles with creams
made from the amputated limbs of children.
Suburban families prop up their smiles
with the amputated limbs of children.
The news man lies and in his eyes
you see the amputated limbs of children.
The podium man smirks and between his teeth
are the amputated limbs of children.
And the little girl cries,
and the news man ignores her,
and the podium man smirks at her,
and the bank boy bites her,
and the machine rolls on,
limbs fed into its furnace with pitchforks,
crushing houses and blackening the sky,
poisoning the oceans and bloodying the earth,
while the air fills with the crying of children,
for limbs that will never come back,
for homes that will never come back,
for mothers that will never come back,
for childhoods that will never come back,
for brightness that will never come back,
for innocence that will never come back,
for dreams that will never come back,
for joy that will never come back.
And we are here,
eating cheesy meatcarbs and watching funny haw-haws
and gossiping and prattling and wishing we looked better
and trying not to think about all the tiny arms and legs
we see covering the earth
whenever we step outside.

The will to live…
The heart-breaking betrayal of the Palestinian people is that Professor Khalidi, for all his fluency and eloquence, does little more than perpetuate the false promise that the clock can be turned back to pe-1948.
I suggest you watch ruclips.net/video/w1Tsl9mEwhE/видео.html for an Israeli centrist's view of the conflict
Thanx for bringing on Prof Khalidi 👏definitely one of my heroes 🦸 Also love Ilan Pappé + Avi Schlaim (tho they're not in the city) maybe next get some of the local resistance leaders + orgs, ie, JVP + Students for Justice in Palestine ✊

The former Prime Minister of Israel Barak had a habit of saying things that are actually true sometimes:
There was no party of God before Israel invaded Lebanon in 1982 because Israel created the party of God since it was a result of Israel’s occupation of Lebanon.
