@@cadet526 it's called "Tesla". I always preferred the looks of the Fisker Karma over the Tesla even though the Tesla is a better car. The Taycan pretty is the Karma body with a porsche front and rear and the capability of the Tesla. I would pay the extra money for that car anyday.
These trips look so fun and I like the way you share all the specifics and stats. That said, your last couple of videos prove that if you’re a road-tripper, it’s about infrastructure - infrastructure - infrastructure. That’s where Tesla is light years ahead of everyone else. You want to be able to charge without white knuckling it at each stop wondering if the chargers are going to work. I agree that VW has the opportunity to make it happen by owning the EA infrastructure but they clearly have more work to do
This is way better than the original movie (which was a spoof anyway). You guys are incredible. It was also amazing that Kyle's co-drivers gave him so many complements about his instruction on how to do things. It just goes to show that he is the master among masters. The other thing that is obvious is how much work EA has to do on their network. I recall only one or two charge stops where there was another car charging, which is a good thing because often the EA charger location only had one or two working stalls. I am watching this in May of 2022, which is 17 months after the original publication date. Hopefully EA has gotten its act together by now, as there have been many more EV sales since the publication date which means there will likely be many more customers competing for those one to two working stalls per location. Again, congratulations to Kyle and his team (including the spotters strung out all across the country).
What a beautiful car - best EV on the market right now (for me ok?) They just announced the RWD Taycan with large battery as the entry level model - "cheapest" which is relative with 79k$ ...starting price.
@@bavariancarenthusiast2722 European network is fine if you live in Germany and the Nordics but here in the UK, not many chargers and those they do have are unreliable. Just about works in the US when you have 4 or more chargers to yourself and you can park in-between chargers for when 1 fails ! They still have a long way to go but then they've set themselves a far more complex task than Tesla. Think I'll wait a few years before buying a Taycan, Nav not working in 20221 ?
I just noticed we now (spring 2021) have a rear wheel drive only Porsche Taycan with available 93KW battery, I wonder if this would do better as it is lighter possibly more efficient.
Another awesome road tripping video. Was interesting to see the Taycan on this trip, and goes to show that non-Tesla DC fast chargers still have some kinks to work out. Hopefully they'll improve and be seamless to where you can just pull up to it, plug it in, and let the car and charging station do the rest.
I have just finished watching this video in its entirety, and I must say it was better than any movie I've seen from Hollywood. Congratulations on becoming number one in an EV! I can't wait to see what you do next. Great teamwork, by the way.
Congrats. You have just made Porshe Taycan my number one choice for a performance EV car. I went from considering the petro Panarama to the Taycan. Pprshe and Electrify America should compensate you for figuring out theory behind the 350kw situation with the Taycan.
Wow, what an achievement! Kudos to Kyle for making it happen and to the entire team and the resources he assembled. I think people have the wrong takeaway with EA. Every single one of the stations worked, delivering at least 150kW. After the battery temp thing was figured out, the 350kW was great. It's just a bummer cuz lots of time was left on the table. That Taycan was sweet, if not buggy with its software. No Tesla can do what it just did.
This video showed an aspect of charging that I hadn't ever thought about before. So many of these places are untended and have no snow removal. At any reasonable gas station, the attendants will be out there clearing the snow, then salting/sanding. Slipping on the ice is an issue for those of us that aren't spring chickens anymore.
Thanks for the Video and greetings from Germany. Some stats would be nice. Like: distance travelled, kWh consumed, avg consumption, charging costs. And a recap of all the charge stops. What a great car...one day when I find the money...
Congratulations on setting a record! You should tell us about the confront sitting in that type of car for that type of travel -- You should do a sales video on this car -- the good and the bad......
This may have already been said but can you imagine where Tesla would be if their cars and the Supercharging network ever performed even a fraction as poorly as this?
What this video has shown me is that VW and Electrify America still have much work to do in solving software issues. For the price you pay to own a Porsche, the car should be almost perfect. Still too many bugs to work out. However thanks to guys like you, VW and Electrify America can learn from this trip to improve their vehicles and fix the software problems so it should be a seamless experience like Tesla's. Thanks for sharing the journey with all of us. The verdict is I'll still stick with my Tesla Model Y and reliable Tesla Charging network.
@@Ifyoudonttakeitucantfakeit , now you can appreciate how good Tesla's Charging network is and their software. Remember that Tesla has been at this for over 10 years. Great video! I just found this channel and love watching you guys! Super appreciate the little charging tips and tricks everywhere, and the spirit of experimenting and trying different and wild things out! I don't know the specifics of EV charging, and maybe I'm completely wrong here (glad to be educated), but generally with electronics and batteries, it's not the supply which 'dumps' a certain amount of power or amps into the load (car). It is the other way round, where the load, either through natural characteristics, or artificially changed (for safety, temperature, etc.), presents a certain 'load resistance'. This load resistance is what determines how many amps will get pulled from the EVSE, and the load resistance is entirely determined/set up by the car. There's normally no way a charger/EVSE can 'force' more amps through a load than the load is naturally asking for (via resistance). The supply can /reduce/ the current to something lower than what the load resistance would've resulted in by /adding/ more resistance on its side, but it can never supply /more/. The hypothesis about cooler battery allowing the full 270kW sounds plausible - but in somewhat the inverse way. When the battery is warmed up, it simply asks for 270kW. What I suspect is happening that the EA equipment freaks out when that much power flows in a very short ramp, and that kills the session. When the battery is cold, the car limits the amount of power it requests, and the EA gets a nice slow up-ramp as things warm up - and it is able to handle that. This is purely my speculation of course.
Great doing, really awesome! This reminds me of Race Across America, where solo cyclists have to reach coast to coast in less than 12 days. Power on good folks 👍🏻
“Who would’ve thought charging infrastructure would have been the hard part of the trip?” I raised my hand immediately. That is largest issue Tesla’s competition has. Of course that is not earth shattering information.
its the biggest reason to just buy a Tesla. I have NEVER left without a successful, flawless charge. I have only had to wait in a line to charge twice, in 80,000 miles of Tesla driving. The supercharger network is top of the line. They just work.
Congrats! Would love to see another Tesla attempt once the V3 superchargers are built out further (or Tesla releases a CCS adapter). Also, I hope Ed Bolian invites you back for another vinwiki interview!
Really interesting thought that I had while watching - you guys actually seemingly benefitted by not having the Nav working. If the Nav was pre conditioning the battery up to temperature, and the battery being up to temperature was causing the overcharging/requesting too much power from the 350s, you were actually better off with the car not knowing you were pulling into a charging station, so you could manage the temps yourself and pull in artound the 84/85 degree mark like you figured out. Awesome run!
Just watched the whole video. Very cool. And to think it could have been faster if it wasn’t for the snafus of needing to change chargers to look for the fastest rate of charge. Great video! Almost like a Top Gear/The Grand Tour episode.
Congratulations with an epic journey and a fantastic video to share with us. The Porsche certainly is a fantastic road trip car. I bet there's at least 30 minutes still sitting there on the table just with the charging issues and If you had been able to plug into every one of those and reliably get full charging speed.

Nice work. But now I have a video to send to all the Porsche fanboys who make fun of Tesla bumpers falling off. It’s 2021. Cars are no longer just pieces of metal. Software is at least equally important.
It seems to me that non-Tesla manufacturers and charging stations have a lot of work to do to ensure that their cars and chargers work together more smoothly. It also seems completely unacceptable that these very expensive cars are so unreliable when it comes to charging on road trips. I think many people will hold off adopting the technology until these infrastructure issues can be worked out better.
When you get a chance you should check out the newer EVgo chargers going through Cincinnati Ohio. There are a few evgo 350kw /100kw chargers paired next to Tesla superchargers here.
Too much power is EXACTLY the same problem that the new Signets give Energicas. Sending so many more amps than requested until the vehicle initiates a safety shutdown. So until they fix them we have to call ahead to try to find locations without Signet (which are few and rare).
Absolutely terrifying that you had that much level of support from Porsche and Electrify America and still run into that many charging issues. Absolutely stunning.

@@OutofSpecMotoring I'm in Atlantic Canada, where Tesla is just building out their network... I would love to see an Electric Canadian Cannonball run from Halifax, Nova Scotia (my home town) to Vancouver BC!
Surely Netflix needs to pick you guys up ! This was epic.
Great run! It is really incredible how fast the electric car technology is evolving.
Thanks Kyle and team. Well done! As the owner of a 2021 Tesla M3 LR AWD I find it amazing that the Porsche was only slightly faster and twice as expensive with a worse charging network. I’ve done nearly 2000 miles in 11 days since delivery and the Tesla SC network has been flawless. Stay safe, from CLT NC.
Fun to watch, you guys are awesome for doing this! However sad status of unpredictable/unreliable EV road trip charging infrastructure for mainstream adoption of electric cars. Hope this continually proves the work needed by companies by electrify America to work on their systems. Not to mention a high end luxury performance car with a navigation system not working.
You guys are my heros. Electric Cannonball...that's the most exciting thing I can think of!! So cool that you guys can do something like!!! 💯 👌🏼
congratulations and great stuff. Love how you constantly managed charging speeds, charging stations and all the calculations. Really enjoyed the video and your honest feedback. Hope Porsche and EA can fix the bugs you guys encountered.
Congrats, looks like fun! I'm jealous of the massaging seats.
Congrats! In future videos can you pls put an image of the map with your current position...something to help visualise progress, for subscribers/viewers who are not from America...
Kyle, I've been watching your videos for a while now and this is the most I've EVER seen you wound-up 🤣😂
Keep up the good content! 👍👍👍
Must be nice to be able to call up Porsche and say, "Got a Taycan for me to run a cannonball with?"
Hey Mclaren, got an extra 765lt? I'm trying to break a cannonball run record. Thanks
oh man its gotta be an honor to hold a cannonball run record, this is like the new stock car racing
Yep, VW willing to torture test their halo electric product on their charging network in a cross continent race, pretty good low cost advertising!
And how does that work with 40k followers? Not to denigrate 40k, that’s not easy, but I would have guessed you would need at least 500k for Porsche to even respond.
Ah, Gumball Rally. A 70s favorite.
What a beautiful car - best EV on the market right now (for me ok?) They just announced the RWD Taycan with large battery as the entry level model - "cheapest" which is relative with 79k$ ...starting price.
Can't wait for the RWD Taycan. Perhaps the enthusiast's choice? Lovely. - Kyle
@@OutofSpecMotoring yes for me it is :) you get maximum range, give a bit of acceleration - but man it should handle...
RWD Hatchback (Sports Turismo), 3 years old, that'll do me ... as long as the Ionity network is sorted (which hopefully it will be by then)
@@malcolmhedges7346 cool too :)
Depends where you live - this Cannonball run showed it works too in the US now, I was impressed.
Was very happy to see this in my sub box. Congrats on the record to the whole team!
Nice video I laughed pretty hard when you said 60 miles we just drove in a half hour maybe 40 minutes
I just noticed we now (spring 2021) have a rear wheel drive only Porsche Taycan with available 93KW battery, I wonder if this would do better as it is lighter possibly more efficient.
It's actualy slightly less efficient as it does not have the more efficient front motor and cannot drice in Eco mode.
The fact that you and electrifying America are working together to make this happen just made my day 😃😃😃
Same owner. I would hope they work together. It’s amazing how poorly it worked anyway
Awesome. So glad to get to see so much detail and behind the scenes of how you guys made it happen. Congratulations!!
Them's fightin words!
Well, a Tesla just beat it by a few minutes... But I agree, Taycan is amazing.
Been waiting very impatiently for this video 😂
Thanks for the Video and greetings from Germany. Some stats would be nice. Like: distance travelled, kWh consumed, avg consumption, charging costs. And a recap of all the charge stops. What a great car...one day when I find the money...
There’s a link in the description with some of what you’re asking for
Congratulations on setting a record!
It’s just a series of weak excuses for a car and network which are both unfit for purpose. I simply do not believe this run s legitimate.
@@Ifyoudonttakeitucantfakeit , now you can appreciate how good Tesla's Charging network is and their software. Remember that Tesla has been at this for over 10 years. They have a head start compared to the traditional automakers. Now the other guys have to play catch up. It's almost as if Tesla has an unfair advantage as their Engineers are the best in the world and they also build rockets so it is "rocket science ". 😅
@@smr32061 Agree but this video should not be allowed as it will put people of evs. That I suspect is the whole point.
I am watching another video about the same car which I hope will show it in a much better light.
It failed, more excuses made by someone who has been ripped off by Porsche.
Here we go!
Popcorn time!
I can't imagine what 99 people didn't like that video. Congratulations again!!!!
Awesome effort you put out there! Best wishes from Germany and congratulations to everyone involved 👏⚡️
Congratulations! Awesome trip! I hope that the EA network fixes their glitches, as well as Porsche.
Can only get better from here!
EPIC. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I watch the entire episode and didn’t think until later that my father and uncle were originally in Cannonball Run which the movie was based on. They have trophies and newspaper image from their fun times and crazy stories
I'm a new Porsche Salesman, this is very helpful. 👍🏾🤙🏾
So entertaining!! I think this is the most references to “shredding” I’ve ever heard.
Well done!!!!
Breaking the record for adverts on a RUclips video!!!!
its the biggest reason to just buy a Tesla. I have NEVER left without a successful, flawless charge. I have only had to wait in a line to charge twice, in 80,000 miles of Tesla driving. The supercharger network is top of the line. They just work.
This has been the best video for the channel and well done!!
Best quote of the video… “You got the wrong one there buddy” hahaha.
Amazing run and love all the data and calculations!
Y'all are crazy. I love it!
Congratulations guys! Give me a call to be a spotter in Cali next time
You probably should have added the “Cannonball Run” movie score, just for effect. Yes I know the movie, both of them, and I love the theme. Good job.
Love these types of vids 🔥🔥
Congrats Guys on the record! I love these types of videos
Probably more than 30 minutes! We cut out tons of waiting time
@@OutofSpecMotoring
Well that's kind of good news because it means you guys get to do another cannonball in the future with a good prospect for cutting that time down even more. Even more fun for you and us when we get to watch you do it again.
Again congratulations glad the trip went well. :)
"A fantastic road trip car..." For 2 people.
Generally uncomfortable for the third.
@@rogerstarkey5390
It's a Porsche dude. It's a four-door sports sedan that happens to be super car fast. Not sure what you would expect.
I wonder if EA could have set the 350 chargers to have a limit of 250 so that it couldn’t over charge and brick.
Exactly! This is what I kept asking during the trip for them to try and apparently it wasn’t so easy? Not sure.
@@OutofSpecMotoring This is why I love this channel. You know this EV stuff in and out and figured out the battery temp trick
Too bad they couldn’t do that little hack to set the charger to 250.
Holy crap on the planning/logistics!
Could you guys next get the country vaccinated? Seems easy compared to this.
Just let everybody get covid that wants it. It'd be faster & easier.
Covid?? On an EV channel??!! Really!!!???!!!
@@fredlane1969 It's called humor, which is generally ok on any channel.

Covid-19 has a 99.2% survival rate for those over 82 and with no comorbidities. I’m not taking an experimental vaccine when the companies have no liability. Turn the news off and you’ll live better.
Loved the video. Thanks for sharing. Next time with better charging infrastructure and software issues I think you may be able to shave off more time and re - beat your own record . Congratulations
You guys should get a tesla model S long range and do that road trip with it
Wow, Electrify America sucks more than I thought it did.
When you get a chance you should check out the newer EVgo chargers going through Cincinnati Ohio. There are a few evgo 350kw /100kw chargers paired next to Tesla superchargers here.
We thank you for exposing the underbelly of the challenges with EA and VW, the inconveniences will keep me in my Volt for a few more years
Too much power is EXACTLY the same problem that the new Signets give Energicas. Sending so many more amps than requested until the vehicle initiates a safety shutdown. So until they fix them we have to call ahead to try to find locations without Signet (which are few and rare).
That’s one of the many problems, yup
How cool is that video, how much prep work and strategy went into it! Love it
Woohoo! A movie length episode 😃👍
