A big thank you to Nokian Tyre for sponsoring this road trip! You can see more about their awesome tires at this link here - Thanks for watching! nokiantires.com
We're in Idaho Falls and we make this run from IF to Boise all the time in our Model 3 LR. Love the videos
you should consider investigating into glass cleaners on road trips especially in Warm months!
Nokian! Cool! Finally. I know you guys are huge fans of the Hakkapeliitta tires for a long time.
@Out of Spec Mororing I’m curious, how many miles on your Model 3 and what percentage of battery degradation do you have? Or, more simply, what was your full/trip charge new and what is it now?
"not wasting water, it's aquafina" nearly made me choke on my breakfast. Wholeheartedly agree!
Near Triple Digit Speeds “allegidly” ….lol
In Canada
Your road trip videos always feel like a little vacation. And they always make me appreciate my Model 3 a lot more
I think roadtrips in Teslas are so much fun. I love all of the stopping and charging/resting. Plus the auto pilot makes this car a breeze to take a trip in. Plus, it's cheaper. I just fell in love with my car after taking a roadtrip in it. Before I liked it, but now I LOVE IT.
Yes, who wouldn't like sitting at the superchargers for HOURS, while gasoline cars just blow down the freeway, after a 10-minute fuel stop?
Also, Tesla with big wheels and super low-profile tires make driving on rough payment a joy. NOT.
@@DerekDavis213 Supercharging is only excessive if you don't plan your trip at all, and charge up to 100% at every single supercharger stop. You should be stopping at a supercharger every two hours or so for 15-30min. At any rate the extra time charging may add, it is such a non issue during a road trip. If time is that much of a concern then buy a plane ticket.
@@frozenbacon Like *most* *people* , I get annoyed waiting in line at the grocery store or at a restaurant. I'm certainly NOT going to spend hours of time waiting for the car to charge, while the guy with the gasoline car can put 400 miles of range in his car in 8 minutes.
You say to stop every 120 miles and charge for 15 minutes? That's not enough charge! Especially if the weather is cold and you have the heat on, or if you are driving UP an incline. And if you run out of battery power, the only option is an *expensive* *tow* .
Gasoline cars are 100 times more convenient and reliable!
Gasoline cars come with a beautiful *functional* dashboard, not some big iPad screen.
Detroit to Miami Florida is 1412 miles. An EV Trip Planner shows that Tesla will need 8 hours 20 minutes of charging on that trip. And that's not including time *waiting* for an available charger.
1412 miles is about 3.5 tanks of gas, total time spent at the gas pump is *less* *than* *30* *minutes* .
Tesla is a HUGE waste of time.
Tesla Full Self Driving is YEARS LATE and still nowhere close to working.
Not a Tesla fan, but I love EVs, headline cars are NOT more reliable. They have thousands of moving parts that can go wrong. Unless you're glutton for punishment you shouldn't spend more than 2 hours without stopping to move around.
Tesla should install some pull up bars at the charger stations.
@@bronzeage_222 Toyota Camry or Honda Accord will go 100,000 miles with just oil changes, air filter, tires and brakes. Those cars are very reliable.
A 1000 mile road trip in a gasoline car only requires 2 stops for fuel. Total time at the gas station: 10 minutes. I'm driving 75 mph with the air-conditioning on the whole way.
How much time does the Tesla owner have to WASTE at the Superchargers? Maybe even waiting in line for his turn.
And then Tesla, with big wheels and low-profile tires and inferior *coil* *springs* is going to give a rough ride. No thanks!!
virtual queue on the screen would be nice to put yourself in line. then the SC wont connect if someone trys to take your spot.
That wet rag you're using for the handle, you can also use on the windshield
Hey Kyle! Thanks for explaining superchargers etiquette to the masses! All about the splitting of power, A& B’s, leaving trailer configured chargers alone! It’s shocking how often here in Southern California, you can be alone in a 10+ supercharger site and some Tesla owner yahoo will go out of their way to take the slot that makes you split! It’s crazy! So thanks for trying to educate the Tesla peeps!
Some of the Superchargers in my area have a (for example), 7A, 7B, 7C, 7D, 7E....... and it's impossible to figure out which stall to charge at.
For men it’s easier. Superchargers are like urinals. If there are multiple available, why would you insist on standing directly next to another man?
@@nielsvandenkieboom5034 😅 exactly!
It’s probably because a lot of them are new Tesla drivers that don’t bother to learn or ahole brainless Tesla drivers. If they knew the right way to do it then they’d have done it. Happened to me before, at a small 5 staller at a gas station. The dumba*# parked right next to me instead of the space over.🙄
You deserve more than 1M subs.
Am I the only one that hears, "Typical Out of Spec Motoring road trip," and thinks "Dirty windshield"?! Great video, guys.
I just saw you have your roof bars still on. If you took them off, wouldn’t you save a heap of power?
Crazy to see these old videos and how much has changed for the better today! I would be thrilled to see you guys one day here in Germany near Stuttgart. Hope to see you one day :)
Appreciate your videos! Any plan on making a tires comparison video? I think that will be very useful to know which tires best for range vs performance vs value and everything in between!
Your 700-mile range assertion is not far off. A guy in Germany hyper-miled a M3 at about 25 mph and got around 650 miles.
I realize that a potential issue for Tesla owners is the lack of squeegee and compressed air at the charging stations. Minor issue but it didn’t occur to me until I watched this video. That windshield was disgusting.
Lmao I wouldn’t quite call this an “issue”
Squeegee and trash cans. I wish they were at every charger. There has become an issue of people leaving their trash at stations.
FYI: I've towed our camp trailer (Alto A2124) with our 2017 X100D from Pendleton to The Dalles before. Generally you have a headwind going that way too. Every time I've charged at The Dalles it hasn't been crowded but I've heard stories such as yours. After going through with the trailer a local fire took it out for awhile. Had I been a few hours later we would have had to find a campground somewhere before the fires and waited it out.
Yay! Electric road tripping again. Missed this.
Love "Range Confidence" lol. Great, that you're working with Chargeway and Matt is awesome! Good to also see you we're able to drive back east on I-84 in Oregon during the day. I grew up in Hood River and can't wait for them to put in the new superchargers there. Hope they put 12+ V3 stalls to reduce The Dalles chargers from getting so backed up.
I am currently living in Idaho Falls, ID, estimated Delivery of Model 3 LR by end of this month. My parents live from just south of Portland so this video is a super cool look into the future of a road trip that I’ll be making 2-3 times a year. (Idaho Falls-Portland) Thank you for the awesome content!
That screen is so much smoother than the Mache E
Great videos Kyle it’s a joy to watch. Is the electricity eco, I can hear a lot a wind. Keep up the great work
25:03 The charger bump is a mood 😂
Maybe the bugs splatter on the window looks worse on camera than it really is? The way it looks on camera I'd have to wash it on a regular basis. It'd drive me crazy. LOL
Yeah that Dalles to Pendleton sucks so bad!! Long stretch and so few in The Dalles, then at the casino, it’s a very far walk to bathrooms (icy walk in the winter)!! Then also Portland proper doesn’t have superchargers!
So awesome to see you finally coming to my neck of the woods here in the PNW!
Kyle is the type of friend everyone needs.
Yes a new video of tesla model 3 thank you for the new tesla video
Funny I was just in “The Dalles” Oregon just this morning. Pronounced Dalles like Pals. And one of the only cities in the US that actually starts with “The”
Next time in Twin Falls you simply MUST stop at the restaurant Elevation 486.
I’ve been on many (100’s) road trips all over the country. (45 of the contiguous 48 states) and Elevation 486 would be in my list of top ten restaurants nation wide.
Love your videos - because your knowledge and your way to present.
Thanks for posting how long you spent at the chargers. This is the first video I’ve come across that provided this info.
Absolutely love their tires. Only winter tires we buy for our small fleet.
They make great all-season tires now too! I just ordered a set of the tires he drove on this trip, the Nokian One.
I really like my 9 gallon Chevy Spark 44.4 miles per gallon and really cheep to fill up. Rides great and smooth on bumps lovely car to maneuver. It’s a 2020 I just paid 14,000. It’s white in beautiful shape
The "wet handle" trick may be fooling a sensor rather than preventing potential long term damage to charging equipment. Something to think about.
Tesla should add some destination chargers to a super charging location at a hotel. The only place that I have seen this is at the south rim of the Grand Canyon in Tusayan there are over 10 supercharger and over 10 destination chargers
He's so popular that I think Tesla would've already contacted him by now if it was an issue to tell him and everyone else not to do that.
It can take it.
Don’t know why I find these entertaining but I do.
Nokian doesn't yet sell the Nokian One 235/40-19 size installed on your car. You must have some pre-production examples.
Hello just a tip...fill water bottle with water plus dish liquid...for windscreens..wipe with micro cloth...ABC.. all be cleaning ..
North Carolina misses you! SHHHH!
Oh btw, if you are using superchargers in Denmark on the way to Norway, I can recommend Rødekro or Hedensted for the bearnaise burgers at Sunset boulevard(10% rebate for Teslas charging in Rødekro) then there's the Elvis museum at the Superchargers in Randers with great burgers etc as well. cheers.
Clean. That. Windshield.
awwwww.... can't believe i keep watching all your videos of you just "driving" and "charging" !!! haha - but SO VERY HELPFUL. helps so much! Thank you!!!
That supercharger at Twin Falls is one of the nicest I've been to. Much nicer than the 250kW one in Burley. Often you'll see people base jumping off of the bridge over the gorge.
**THIS** When going through Idaho this is a must stop charger. During regular hours you can use the restroom at the Visitor center in the parking lot as well. They are also in the process of building some new restaurants adjacent to the chargers.
watched this after your CES trip with software 11.. lol this is so much nicer software wise
I use the cold rag trick all the time it works !
Too bad no base jumpers at Twin Falls - looks like it was too windy for them though. Twin Falls is a great charger stop just for that reason.
I can't believe you drove by Multnomah Falls and didn't bother to stop and do a quick film. It was right down the road from the Dallas on 84
The Dalles, OR and Trementon, UT superchargers are awful, I've visited both several times and they are always slammed typically with queues.
Truth - These are two key chargers that most everybody has to hit.
Baker City, OR is the birthplace of Wally Byam. Wally was the inventor and manufacturer of Airstream travel coaches.
Kyle, I have noticed on a few of those older units that the notch is broken and the cable does not stay - so people lay the cable down. I try to reverse the cable in the holder, seems to work as well.
This a brilliant video great channel 👍
Living on the edge...love that battery management.
Love this roadtrips... I am looking forward to some winter ones :-)
And now with v3 SC's this same 27 minute, 45kWh stop takes 14 minutes. So much time saved
Currently running Nokian One's on my Volt, can't complain so far.
So happy to see a Performance edition Tesla for a change. The milquetoast RWD long range ones are so Magoo. The mind-blowing acceleration of the Performance models is something that no one should avoid given the option. Nice interior too, getting tired of the black interiors of every single car on the road...
Assuming tires & brakes wear a lot faster on a heavier, powerful, AWD car like Tesla than any non-truck on the road. Am I wrong?
Watching your videos makes me want to buy a Tesla and road trip
Now that you said that you bet you could get 700 mile on a full charge you need to prove it.
Road trips are always better with A L Y S S A ! Did I just say that out loud???
If you lower the background music during explaining bouts I could understand much better
Does anyone remember if he installed any protective film on any area of the car when he got it? The finish seems to be holding up pretty well.
Doesnt the Nav app show how many slots are available at the SCs when you are planning your route?
These road trips are fun to watch for the 2nd time when i am working on mindless things at work. God, I hate my job but it pays well and I need health insurance right now. Haha.
Start doing the "wet rag trick" on your windshield sometimes, it would provide " I care about the quality of my product" and increase the viewers appreciation of the entire video.
Loving these Road trip videos
I go will them in their tour ..
forget the visitor center, how about a bucket and windshield scrubber?
how about keeping some glass cleaner and a roll of paper towels in the back seat or trunk to keep the windshield clean ?
So what was the Wh/mi? This would give everyone an idea of the efficiency.
Scotty Kilmer says try " 205 Reseal" on noises from suspension rubber type bushings, Worked when I tried it on a squeaking suspension part, and noise never returned
When going to new cities, do not forget to drive downtown if you have a chance.
You done goofed by not going to the twin falls supercharger (unless you went on the way back). Prettiest supercharger I’ve been to
Range anxiety 😥 That’s the one thing I always worried about, -1% 😬 If I remember correctly, when the battery goes to 0% you have approximately 83 miles before it shuts down. ⚡️🤷🏽The rag trick definitely works 😁
good thing hood river got another huge charger
Instead of the wet rag trick, I placed a freeze-pak on the handle and got a big quick boost. Had to hold it on, though.
Is utilizing the damp rag trick at a V3 charger any good? Since they have their own liquid cooling built in.
Great video as always, but here’s an idea: take your microfibres and Aquafina and spend 5 minutes on your windscreen while you are supercharging… this will make your awesome footage all the better! :)
Just use the windshield wipers and spray
@@ironqqq nah, you can damage / degrade the blades on debris. Wipe with a cloth if you can.
Lots of people have told him about the bugs but he doesn’t seem to care.
It's kind of wild that you guys do these trips with two dogs in a Model 3 instead of a Model Y. It always looks a bit cramped in there
Yay The stats are back!!!
re: chargers at hotels - YES YES YES Level 2 charging FTW! You can have a lot more level 2 capacity than DC and get a good charge overnight. Less strain on the battery as well :)
Yes!Thanks for providing the charging data!
Its been a while since the last model 3 roadtrip I am beyond eexcited for this video.
Kyle another awesome road trip 👍 ..
BTW you said you got a full charge @ 42:20 .. but the details you put up @ 42:28 you posted 6-58% at only 17min? So you guys order food, eat and chat in only 17min?
Fun to see you on the good "old" model 3! Missed some of those roadtrip videos!
In the back of my three month old model Y I keep a bottle of windex and a roll of shop towels. If I ever run into you at a supercharger some day, I will clean your windshield mostly due to this episode. The scenery is awesome, the trip looked fun, but MAN, clean your windshield!! LOL. thanks again for the awesome videos!
Question: Road tripping to Superchargers often involves preconditioning the car battery for charging which must use some juice. If you don’t select the Supercharger as the destination (so no preconditioning) wouldn’t the car have more range and go farther? If that’s the case you’d have to charge longer to make up for no preconditioning. Is this correct in your experience?
Been on a tear with the videos recently! Wondering if you've ever removed the roof rack? Considering getting one but not sure how easy it is to remove?
In India 60KW Max charger can be found and 50KW is available most of the car like TATA NEXON Charge at 25KW.. recently EV’s are introduced in India that’s why we don’t have high end KW Charger.. Hope we get 100KW Soon..
You were within 4 miles of my house when you were charging at the Fairfield hotel in The Dalles. lol
It is possible to have a negative range. Tesla has about 15-20mi of range beyond 0. It’s not advisable to do repeatedly or chance running out of charge, but there is a little extra beyond 0, which is part of the actual EPA estimates, according to Tesla.
Tesla should put the charge port in front. Tell us more about how you grew up and your family.
Coming through Denmark? I get you the coffee, breakfast and a free place to stay overnight 😉
Eastern Oregon is beautiful. You went through my hometown
Love these videos, I like the caption on the top right indicating time, speed capacity. I would suggest taking a portable windshield washer and something to clean the touchscreen. I'll be an EV owner in the near future and have learned so much from your videos.
Just installed a set of Nokian One tires, on my Model 3 SR+. I'm anxious to see how efficient they are (or aren't)
Any update?
Glad to have you back with another trip. Other electric car trip videos leave out so much info and even spout wrong info about cars/battery/range etc..
Did I miss which model Nokians? I have been using Nokians for years and years and love them. I have the eNTYRE 2.0 on my model 3 right now. EDIT: Oh I heard it now. One
Does the wet rag trick work at Electrify America chargers ?
Love listening to the road trips 😊
Nice Looking Rims on the Car…
Love the content as always, but please clean your windshield! I find it hilarious that y’all often look board at a supercharger stop, yet still leave with a windshield full of bugs.
Why keep the roof bars on when on these trips if you aren’t going to use them? Doesn’t that hurt efficiency?
I always worry about overt tightening them and cracking the glass roof so just leave them our model 3 and y.
