This was a great job, Emily! I don't store the things I declutter, though. That sabotaged me into re-accumulating too many things, and the cycle began all over again! Like ex-husbands, unwanted clothes are better out of your home and out of your life! So, I start with any item that has "an issue"...too small, too large, too itchy, etc., and then move on to things that I haven't worn for at least 2 years. Usually by then, I'm good. I declared a "no buy" Jan and Feb for 2025...an entire year is not doable for me! This gives my existing wardrobe a chance to "settle", before adding more items. Right now, all I have on my need list is a comfy pair of shoes. You bolstered my decision to cut my own pixie undercut from now on, and it rocks-many thanks! I love your style, and the inspo you send our way! Be well!
That sounds like a great process and I'm so glad you found what works for you. I think that's key!
Great advice! Especially “start with your loves.”
Thanks so much!
I don’t know about anyone else but the more I weed out my wardrobe and only buy what I love, the less I have. I went into a store today and tried on jeans and some khaki pants. I literally walked out with nothing. I just decided I wasn’t “sold” on any of it. I am so proud of myself and staying true to myself and my personal style choices. 😊😊😊
The preceding video was so helpful. I mentioned it to my therapist who said that was the perfect method for those with ADHD, like me. Start with loves, so few decisions. And this one also addressed questions I had about what was left, to keep me on track. Thanks.
Such excellent thought through advice and the MUSIC 🤗😎
Thank you so much! Music is so important to me! 🙂
My heart was in my mouth over the gorgeous pinstripe, mentally screaming “Act in haste, repent at leisure”!!
Well as usual you have made my closet clean out sensible, easy and practical. Thanks again for the brilliant way you break things down. 🌸
Good call on the pin stripe blazer - it looks great on you!
Thanks, it is a classic 🙂
You brought us full circle Emily. Thank you for creating a fulfilling process 🤗!
Yay! So glad you enjoyed!
I really have enjoyed this series. I purged my wardrobe a few years back and have really tried to build a more conscious one. But I've definitely got some pieces that just didn't work out, and some "loves" that need to go. I live in an extremely hot and dry climate. The pieces I love the most are three wool blazers. And on those rare winter days when I can actually wear one of them - I always reach for the same one. I know I need to let the other two go, but...but...😂
Yea, that's the hardest thing when you love something so much! But I say just stick for the one you grab for.
Thanks, Emily, for this useful content. Further, recent post-cross country moving decluttering/donations gathering continues as we unpack the remaining boxes & a very large container of my Summery dresses, etc. (I already have previously unpacked long clothes hanging, spaces filled!) 😳😁♥️🌞
Love a lot of your content! I think though that decluttering videos from influencers should always come with a little disclaimer that they probably have way more stuff - and therefore way more stuff to declutter regularly- than the average person and way way way more than a conscious consumer intending to have or already having a curated wardrobe. Otherwise it gives the wrong impression (for example overconsumption and the resulting need to declutter so much stuff regularly).
oh, Emily, your blazers! I love them all! ❤
Thank you! I have a blazer obsession
Your advice and tips are great. Your music is a 10 ‼️
Thanks so much!
Great job Emily! Absolutely agree with you
Yay! So glad! :-)
I forgot all about the items that I took out! I guess that's a pretty good sign that I can get rid of them ;)
Whew, finally resolved, and finally I'll sleep through the night! 🤪👍❤️
Just in time for tea... 🥰🥰🥰
Haha yes! Love that!
I'm still regretting getting rid of my vintage green suede jacket. it breaks my heart when I see old pics of me in it. Beware of what you toss!
I just had a big declutter and already want to kick myself for half the stuff I no longer have. ESPECIALLY because I move countries from time to time and what does not work now will be very relevant in a different place. Better to move items around between wardrobe and storage.
I know exactly what you mean. I still think about my first pair of black and white vertical stripe pants I got rid of in my first big minimalist purge :-(
Has anyone mentioned that your lamps make you look like you have antenae? Pretty cool❣️
Have you ever considered doing a colour analysis? I think this could be a great tool to help declutter as well. I’d be curious to know your thoughts.
@Veryveros Emily looks so good in black, I feel like she must be one of the winters.
I got my colors done and I actually still wear and love colors that are arguably my worst colors. I like the “vibe” they give rather than needing to flatter my coloring all the time.
Good job! I have trouble making the decision of letting go, I guess, I have to learn to be a bit ruthless 🙃.
It gets easier with practice! You got this! And definitely try storing stuff away for a bit. Takes out the emotional attachment
I also have created a high standard wardrobe and really dialed into a cohesive capsule. The issue I am having... the wardrobe is fabulous, works with my body and my personal style. However it doesn't work with my lifestyle. I am finding myself over dressed 5-6 days a week. I could live in tee shirts and joggers, but want my blazers, button ups and trousers. 😢
@erinbisson918 I say, better overdressed than underdressed, especially if you feel good it what you are wearing!
I feel fairly satisfied with my wardrobe (I think) but when I went to try this exercise, I feel like there’s so little I actually love! Not sure what that means for me.
Ahhh I'm sorry to hear that. Even if it's just a few pieces start there. And then focus on why you love those pieces and maybe you'll find that in other pieces. Or have a dress up day where you try on all your clothes and style them in different ways to get a different perspective on them.
Great video Emily! Obrigada 🇧🇷
Thanks so much!
I totally understand in regards to hoodies. I think for me, it’s how the hoodie feels on me. I feel trapped inside it.I prefer a beanie and a scarf. Like you, I do have a few that I wear for specific occasions but not for day to day.
Yea, maybe it's the weight around the next I don't like.
@ Exactly!
Ciao
Mi piacciono tantissimo i tuoi video!
If you are ever in the UK near North Wales , I need your help. I can't seem to part with anything. xx
We cut up tshirts that we would otherwise donate and we use them as rags.
Oh my gosh! That's what we did growing up
@@EmilyWheatleyI figure if we are going to get rid of them anyway we might as well use them!
Hilarious looking at your "loves." If I sorted my closet to keep only the loves, I'd have about 20 pieces in total across tops, bottoms, layers, shoes, accessories.
I did step nr 1 today and ended up with 101 pieces... 😬 not 65-70 as I hoped. How can i narrow it down? Its waaay to many clothes i feel. HELP! 😂
When it comes to it, just really focus on the clothes you truly wear. If you're not wearing them, most likely you won't.
hoodies! as someone who is 29 & "youthful" i do not wear hoodies because i am *guaranteed** to be mistaken for a minor. *even still i've been mistaken for a minor
Haha so true!
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻🥰
:-)
I like hoodies and coats with hoods. I have shorter hair than you. Hats squash my hair down, and it looks ridiculous!

Just so you know :) I looked this up for myself :)
In my opinion, don't declutter !
This is brutal 😢
