you can also see that he developed from being a lone wolf to caring about relationships, when perona was about to leave the island after staying with him for years - as soon as she found out moria was alive. contrary to his initial character, mihawk told perona to be safe on her journey. the lone-wolf mihawk would just be nonchalant and say nothing sentimental when she mentioned leaving.
And he planted a cocoa tree for her
Zoro sacrificing his pride for Luffy is one of the greatest character arcs I’ve ever witnessed

After the whole abolishing of the Warlords thing I really see Mihawk joining up with Shanks and his crew more or less because he knows they will be in a direct path to Luffy and Zoro, wanting to see if his bet on Zoro and Shank's bet on Luffy will actually pay off

I mean, Mihawk was the first Warlord we saw, he literally decimated an entire fleet without even trying. So it was basically instilled within us the power of having a large crew vs being the pinnacle of sword mastery. We didn't need to question it because Mihawk answered a question we didn't even know needed to be asked.
Small ship shaped like a coffin with a cross and green flames, gigantic black sword enameled with jewels and a lot of sass. destroying a galleon in one motion, when zoro said "this is the power of the world" we knew Mihawk was beyond imagination powerful.
Truly just one example of Oda's masterful storytelling. Conveying a lesson like that, while also showing the massive gap between Zoro (who had been stomping everyone out at that point) and the best in the world...which then served as a limiter for Zoro's INSANE power for another few arcs as he recovered from the insane wound Mihawk gave him. Just nuts.
True but then we were introduced to the Warlords and after that especially it caused many people to completely discount Mihawk because - to be honest - while the Warlords are strong their power level is not nearly impressive enough to describe how strong Mihawk must be. This guy literally served(s) as Shanks' rival when it comes to combat ... like come ON. But I blame OP for not somehow driving his power home more, I cant wait till we get to actually see MIhawk let completely loose and Oda unleashes his full glory.
Edit: I wonder how g5 Luffy compares to Mihawk. I mean of course I am pretty certain he would beat MIhawk - unless MIhawk is somehow even stronger than Kaido. But still I'd like to see it. Or how about we just get to see a Shanks v Mihawk snippet????

It's not "probably" it's confirmed. Because after the first bounty Mihawk goes to visit shanks to tell him about Luffy, about a "kid you once mentioned"

I highly doubt that statement. Zoro got lost while riding an animal. All he had to do was stay on the animal and he would’ve gotten to his intended destination, the top of a mountain. After falling off the animal, what was his solution for getting to the top of the mountain? GETTING ON A FREAKING BOAT!!
My point is, even though the baboons weren’t an obstacle, Zoro couldn’t just leave whenever he wanted.
That line was more of something Mihawk would've thought since Mhawk probably doesn't know about Zoro's bad direction at that time.

Zoro doesn't care if he gets lost and usually doesn't even expect to. The point is Mihawk noticed that Zoro didn't even bother and understood the actual reason.

@Saigo no Kuro mihawk is definitely going to be close to emperor when he goes all out. You saw what zoro did to kaido after being injured. Mihawk is still a stronger swordsman than him. He would have left a big scar.

You managed to put words on why Mihawk is my favorite character in One Piece and have been that since he first appearance. The mystery about him, his whole lonesome character and how he suddenly got this spark of interest in a mere boy who he easily defeated, was why he got the first place on my favorite list. He sure is an interesting character and I do hope we get to see more of him and learn more about him.

1) I never thought of the similarity of Shanks and Zoro both swallowing their pride for luffy.
2) The point about mihawks development in the war, realizing that luffy has the greatest power on the seas like whitebeard gathering a strong crew and hence allowing perona and zoro to stay on the island

Thank you for this! I always thought it was so out of character for Zoro and Mihawk to be have Zoro train under Mihawk, but with Mihawk realizing that having relationships and throwing away you own selfish needs to help protect the dreams of others was something I didn’t even realize until I saw this video. That was ultimately the decision to train Zoro in the first place. This is amazing! I do hope we get to see more of Mihawk has he’s so mysterious in his own right that I would love to see more of him. I still would love to see a Zoro vs Mihawk rematch.

I still think Vista is very underrated, sure he may not be as strong as mihawk but his power was recognized by him and he managed to hold him off, and neither of them was serious. And most importantly Vista is one of the rare people that can measure up to Mihawk's drip.

I read again the Marine Ford Arc just 2 weeks ago and it's very interesting to see the power of protagonist like Marco, Vista or... Izo. Years ago we couldn't really understand the true power of this characters but now, we can have a more relevant perspective of powers in One Piece world.

I wonder if Oda WOULDNT Say that He Wished he was drawn MORE the way the anime is handling the Ryuou eith the visuals etc.??? Fook is all the Oden Flashback making Redtaro & Buggyjiro SO MUCH More hype people at least agree on that? I guess Oda DOES have us Waiting for Shanks to MAKE His Move and I bet itll be something done in a way we WOULD NEVER Expect to happen.. Is it an articulation of Ryuou or Haki MAYBE? or is he the Guy with the magical sword slice fruit? that exists without Making someone into a cooler version of Byakuya Kuchiki For SOME Reason? though I thought it was CONFIRMED to be an Early idea for HOW to Articulate the Use of Ki in Physical Attacks or I suppose Haki in this case.... sorry to ramble but Theirs A LOT of questions that COULD be answered if we See maybe Vista come back after the Wano Ryuou animation and See how they HANDLE drawing the flowersword style or whatever it was called... WTF do other people think about vista and his Unusual Sword Style with wierd flower visuals etc. and not even in the coolest of ways YET so maybe he COULD be used to Frther expand on SOME of the Advanced Haki Ideas??

I've always had a theory that Mihawk's giant sword is actually just a sheath for his real sword and he just hasn't bothered to take it out yet. He just doesn't seem like the type to use a BFS.

Yes! You need Haki to be a strong swordsman. What sepates him from Shanks is most likely the CoC. There could possibly be other ways to use CoC in the future (Hell, there already are! Like Kaido and Big Mom's natural impenetrable bodies are a product of CoC coating and also coating armament with CoC to increase damage). Possibly even more! I really like how Oda is now starting to expound on the CoC concept.

Nowhere in the story is it said that Shanks is the strongest in Haki power.(He might be the stronger Haki master out of the 4 Emperors and this might be proven in the future) Why can't they both be proficient in Haki but be masters at different specializations. Mihawk could be a master in armament and observation but still has high level CoC while Shanks is the CoC master and has high level armament and observation. They could both be masters in all fields of Haki with the only difference is usage like Shanks being very versatile with all three (these are my headcannon until proven in the story otherwise).

Shanks was mentioned in the Kaido dialogue of one of the pirates that could defeat him (might be the reason why you think Shanks is stronger Haki wise which is justified) but who is to say Mihawk can't? Those mentions were based on experience by Kaido from the pirates He himself have fought. Since he hasn't fought Mihawk of course he wouldn't include him although Mihawk is strong or atleast strong enough to be Shanks rival in duels.

In the Ace novel when he thought Ace sought him out to fight his first instinct was to grip his sword and lastly his only confirmed duels are with the WORLD'S STRONGEST SWORDSMAN. He even split the sky in his clash with WB the same as Rodger vs WB so we know he uses Conquerors coating. And for Shanks to be as young as he is he had to start picking these skills up early, even as early as the duels with Mihawk because theirs no way he's battling the world's best and he doesn't have Conquers coating when we know even competent samurai in wano that would be fodderized by top tier fighters can use advanced armament which has been shown as very inefficient at tackling people on the highest tier in One Piece.

The argument that Shanks Haki is so strong that's why he beats Mihawk doesn't work. Swordmen always use haki all the time. So Shanks is not "out of the league" for Mihawk.

Yes many people use haki but it's a matter of how strong one's haki is, and shanks is known to be one of the strongest haki users along with rayleigh. So the haki argument is NOT irrelevant

Dracule "Hawk-Eye" Mihawk is a great character in One Piece. His swordmanship is top notch and gives hard lessons between real and fake swordsmen in the world of OP. Whatever may be his next step in the next Arcs, Mihawk will take part in the ultimate showdown. Hope he becomes an ally of Luffy.

I believe Mihawk is actually several hundret years old, and the "wine" he is drinking is actually blood. Hence why he doesn't have any crewmembers anymore. He either drank their blood or just outlived them. This would also make sense why he is considered the best swordsman, having centuries to train.

And in order to become the World strongest Swordsman you need world's strongest haki or you know all the people who are known as top tier have to have strong Haki. Mihawk and Shanks dueled multiple times, Mihawk is currently known as WSS and Shanks is known for strong Haki and I'll let you piece these simple puzzles together.

Id like to think that mihawk have the strength, and fighting skills comparable to the yonkous, but minus the power and influences for the teritory in the region
If that was the case, we could say Kaidou = Mihawk
Mihawk is one of my favorites, but he’s probably slightly under the Yonko in strength. Guys like him and Akainu could give any of the 4 Yonkos a hell of a fight, but I don’t think they have the strength to win most of the time.

I think there are some points here where you totally misunderstand Mihawk and his character.
Mihawk didn't leave the war because Shanks was either stronger or weaker than him. It's because he didn't want to fight a friend.
Mihawk does not see the fact that Shanks lost his strong sword arm as a disrespect to their rivalry. He was just disappointed about losing a sparring partner he truly acknowledges.
I think you are reaching into it for a story arc as well. I do not think that Mihawk didn't know/acknowledge the power of having people fight with you, because if so he would definitely mock Shanks about his crew. Mihawk just prefers being alone and he is okay with that. He prefers being alone but doesn't totally avoid company i.e with Shanks.
Also the fact that he was just bored and decided to hunt down Don Krieg was pretty normal. Why is he a selfish swordsman who lives for himself over that? He was just bored and wanted some fun. Heck, Luffy and Zoro does that. If they spot someone strong they are typically up for a challenge for fun.
I think Mihawk is a pretty simple character and doesn't need all these character arcs and ideas put into him.
He doesn't need all these character arc stuff to make him compelling and cool. Because he totally is.

I feel mihawks disappointment in shanks for losing his arm is pretty blatant in the way that he talks to shanks. Mihawk used to not think much of being bonded with other people and was pretty intolerant to the way other swordsman would act if it wasn’t just about them being a swordsman. However I think when he wanted to test whitebeards stregth that is when he relised his true power and it was not some insane physical feat or a crazy display of vigor, no he recognizes whitebeards true stregth is the bonds he formed with his family. Skip to when zoro asks mihawk for help and he at first is disappointed that one of his potential rivals would so such a pittyful act but once he learned it was for someone else he reconsidered because he was curious himsellf in how important a bond can really be to a person and you start to see him open up more rather than the start of the show where he would of never done a act like this but after he saw whitebeards/luffys true stregth he realized that maybe he should try to have more connections and closer with others even if they don’t have his exact ideology, this was why he was willing to train zoro and let persona stay on the island with him.
Gotta appreciate the consistency in character that Oda surprisingly manages to give his characters. Jesus, you're analyzing these things from episodes that are hundreds of episodes (several years in real life) apart, yet throughout, the same values and essence is still present in Mihawk.

When you mentioned how they treat swordplay as a religion of sorts, I had remembered a scene from when Zoro fought Mr 1, and Mr 1 said you shouldn't think of him a a swordsman because he has many ways to fight. And Zoro seemed frustrated that he was struggling with someone who doesn't even aspire to be a swordsman.
I am probably only partially remembering a bad translation...and it isn't about Mihawk, but I just love how revered swordsmanship is and how much respect its given, considering that most of the great swordmen are pirates. They appear as pirates that are using swords to most people, but they are truly swordsmen who have become pirates

I have this feeling that Mihawk is secretly the Red Haired Pirates 2nd in command. The relationship Shanks has with Mihawk is very different to the usual rivalries you see among the top pirates. Even Roger and Whitebeard still had their own way. But Shanks and Mihawk, the way they act around each other is more like they have probably made a deal in the past and are looking forward to finally accomplish it.
They both are very similar in some aspects. They both mentored someone with the goal of been overtaken by them eventually. Luffy and Zoro.
Now that Mihawk is no longer a Shichibukai, i am sure once we start the Post-Wano Arc where the news reach the entire world. We will see Shanks and Mihawk together. Mihawk having gotten rid of the Marines going against him sees that Shanks was there in the case he needed help.
Mihawk tells him his worries are unecessary. And that technically he's now back to been a regular Pirate.
That's when Shanks asks him. Why don't you finally join our crew? Mihawk realizing that the time for his duel with Zoro is closing in, smiles and accepts Shanks invitation.
That's when Mihawk tells Shanks that he's far more cruel that he imagined. Shanks says, that he's just happy for Luffy. But the time has come for Luffy to overcome him, but he won't go down easy. After all, Luffy needs to prove him he's the one Roger is waiting. Besides, knowing the final war is coming, why the hell not? Let's also aim to become Pirate King.

Clips, Zoro has never shown Conquers Haki in both Pre-Timeskip and Post-Timeskip Era like Shanks has, and Zoro is never going to have Conquers Haki, but Zoro definitely had the strongest Armament Haki next to Mihawk out of all the swordsmen Mihawk has fought over the years, so yes the analysis of Zoro vs Mihawk is somewhat truthful in this video.

@@lukastardie1671 , thanks for telling me that Zoro can use Conquerors Haki like Luffy too because there were a lot of fan theories on whether or not if Zoro could use Conquers Haki or not, so it was left for fan speculation to know if Zoro can use Conquerors Haki like Luffy or not until Oda outright said that Zoro is able to perfectly control Conquerors Haki like Luffy can too, and I’ve always watched just the anime and never read the manga, so that’s why I was curious if Zoro could use Conquerors Haki or not.

@@Doflaminguard , the Strawhat Pirates and the Revolutionary Army beat the shit out of Fujitora despite him being a blind guy that made himself intentionally blind, so there’s no reason on to why Mihawk should have stopped sparring with Shanks.
@@saifullahkhalid286 , also Mukuro is right that Mihawk was in fact scared shitless to fight Shanks, and that’s why he taught Zoro the swordsmanship skills that he uses.
@@RoronoaZoro-ur6hr Theres a youtube analysis on Mihawk. The man is prideful. He's the only Warlord without a crew. He spars with Shanks when he is bored. He is disappointed in shanks for throwing away his sword arm. He is even disappointed in Zoro for begging. Both Shanks and Mihawk are swordsmen and theres a reason why Mihawk is called the strongest Swordsman.
