    Hey Everyone! I want to point out that I am not a technical reviewer, and my claims about normal focal lengths are a matter of creative belief rather than strict science of any kind. I hope you enjoy this creative endeavour. I also want to thank TTArtisan for this opportunity to work together. They had zero say in this video and for all I know haven't watched it. That said, I really enjoy this lens! Let me know if you have any questions about the lens, and feel free to post them below! Cheers team

    I always had a feeling my 16mm on full frame represents how i percieve a landscape much more accurately than my 50mm. Glad im not the only one - and great video!

      I’ve always felt that way! Don’t get me wrong, I still like playing in the 35-50mm range, but wide doesn’t feel like it’s some radical perspective like it’s often considered. Glad you liked the video, it was a blast to make.

    I am with you man, I never shoot video on anything that is narrower than 21mm. Actually I always shoot on a 21mm prime (Fujinon 14mm f2.8). I didn't take a leap yet to get something wider, but I imagine that the 15mm is a good companion to 21mm. 18mm would probably be way to similar.

      It’s just such a good way to build in story! It’s actually a 10mm with a 15mm full frame equivalent, so really quite wide. It’s been a blast to use!

    This was probably the most compelling 'lens review' I have ever seen haha. Sure you took amazing photos, and some really incredible cinematography, but I most enjoyed your perspective and discussion on the normal view. Interesting stuff!

      Couldn’t ask for a nicer compliment. Thanks for watching and letting me know what you thought. I enjoyed the process of disagreeing with the arguments around standard focal lengths haha. This little lens is also pretty epic to play with, especially if you enjoy those big frames

    People talk about the natural human perspective lens idea a lot, but it's difficult to actually achieve because we see in stereo. I think 40-50mm is roughly equivalent to what we see magnification wise but our angle of view is, like you said, much wider.

      Very true. Feels as though there isn’t a true “right” answer haha. Still fun to have this dialogue and make this video. I love considering unique perspectives. Thanks for watching and commenting 🤙🏻

    I like your philosophical discussion about the human field of view, and how that translates to lenses and composition. A topic that can be discussed in a whole lot more depth, perhaps.
    About the lens, small light and cheap and a wide aperture. That is good. I have a TTArtisans lens and 2 7Artisans lenses that meet the same criteria, and it makes the decision to pack them a lot easier.
    However this lens does not seem to have a filter thread and that's a drawback. I'd like to be able to put on an ND filter for somewhat longer exposures. This lens might be good for photographing wide night skies though, given that it is so wide and fast. However, in the end that depends on the optical qualities of the lens.

      Hey Tim! The lens does allow for screw on filters. I’ve used it almost exclusively with a filter. I haven’t tested it for Astro yet but suspect it would be average given some of the optical qualities. Thanks for your feedback on the video, I’m really glad you liked it!

      @@SamBugas Hi Sam,
      When I looked up the lens I got a number of pictures for supposedly this lens, that showed what looked like a built-in hood that would not allow for filters similar to what my 7Artisans fish-eye has. The hood must be detachable and I must have missed that fact! My bad!

    • @SamBugas
      @SamBugas  Месяц назад +1

      @@TimvanderLeeuw no problem! Yes it’s a screw on lens hood that allows for screw on filters. I never take it off because there’s no real benefit to having it off.

    Solid thoughtful video. Almost in same vein as BokehTherapy’s videos. Are you familiar with any photographers or filmmakers that have worked with such a focal length? Any that you’ve looked to for inspiration?
    (Unsolicited suggestions from doofus on internet? 1. More photo and video examples! 2. tighter script/less repetition in dialogue)

    • @SamBugas
      @SamBugas  Месяц назад +1

      Hey I appreciate the feedback! Yeah many of my favorite photographers shoot wide. My main niche is adventure photography where this kind of focal range is quite useful.
      I do appreciate those suggestions. It takes a lot of time, money and work to make the photos. I’d have liked to have more to show, but I just didn’t take enough good ones (plenty of bad ones lol). Fair point on the script. I don’t ever script anything, basically just chat, so I could see why I’d be a bit repetitive haha
