Great message here. less thinking / more feeling. Sometimes I feel like rules in art and composition only exist to be broken. But then that also requires we understand them in the first place. They need each other.

      Couldn't agree more!

I'm 57 but started film in 1986 as a teen. After taking a few pics I think one develops the framing and composition "style". Your brain knows great composition like your ear knows great music. There's an old saying that there are no bad (underexposed, overexposed, blurry, off kilter) photos but there are uninteresting photos. My number one photography goal: create an interesting photo!

Amazing insight, and I totally agree. Sometimes the best work just simply doesn't make sense, but it absolutely works. The goal is always to be interesting! Cheers, and thanks for adding to the conversation.

Great video sam ! I love the way u added white beams instead of the typical yellow or orange to emphasize the light. It was so different. Finally, The pirate cove photo was so magical. The 3 bokeh adds so much to the photo ! ❤

Thank you for all the feedback!! I really appreciate it. I try to only work with what’s already there when it comes to light. So I may boost it a little, but I don’t try to fabricate it. I feel that a super fake orange or yellow bloom can be too garish and unrealistic sometimes. Thanks for watching!

Another great video Sam, shame that the shoot didn't go as planned but you still got a couple of good images. A video on framing for compositions would be appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback John! All in all, the photography was a huge success! The video portion could have been better so I could share compositional considerations while actually making them, but I can’t change weather! Haha

I like them all. I think I would have probably liked more texture in the foreground waves in picture 2.

Thank you! Appreciate the feedback. I had many other versions of that shot with more and less texture but ultimately favored the one I showed the most. It matched what my goal was closest, but it’s really cool to hear your thoughts!

@@SamBugas it would be interesting to see different versions of the same picture and explain your tought process on why you choose a specific one. In general not specifically that one.

I haven’t started to shoot videos with my 2-years old A7R5 despite buying it expressedly with the hybrid shooting mindset. Simply my brain struggles to do both at the same time. So I can relate to your current struggles ! 😂

Haha it’s a totally tough process! Since starting RUclips I’ve put hundreds of hours into it, and I’m still often just not able to get it done. I also find that I have more fun making cinematic sequences than vlog style sequences while I’m out shooting. That way the video almost mimics the photos in a way. Regardless, I think it was Thomas Heaton from like six years ago that said it just takes a ton of practice to do both before it ever becomes a natural instinct. Thank you so much for watching!
