What's scary about the Predator is that it's based on how humans hunt animals. Use of camouflage, mimicking the prey animals' calls, superior weaponry, ambush from the trees, etc.
Saw this in the theater with my father when I was in my mid teens. I never saw a trailer and I was mesmerized to the screen from beginning to end. To this day, still one of my all time favorite movies! I love the fact that people are still entranced by this masterpiece.
That is such an awesome memory to have. The first time I saw it was with my dad too. It was past my bedtime, but he let me stay up late to watch it with him. Definitely a "don't tell your mother" moment. 😝 One of my most cherished memories.
I love the fact that Addie jumpscares every time the frame switches to "Predator's POV", even though it's just a normal thermal camera 🤣 (The Predator sees heat signatures) Awesome reaction, btw, one of my favourite YT reactors :) 25:40 Predator is basically an elite hunter, and he takes trophies (bones, skulls and other stuff). He can be confused in several ways: as he sees heat signatures, you can block yours (by applying mud), or heat your environment up (by setting it on fire). I was lucky enough to visit the Predator filming location in 2015. It's now a zip-line tourist attraction just outside of Puerto Vallarta, and the enemy base camp seen at 9:23 is a restaurant. They even have a life-sized statue of the Predator there!
Yes! "Biceps - The Movie!" A true classic. A simple yet effective premise executed to near perfection, and with one of the coolest creature designs ever. Also Arnold of course. :) Great reaction as always.
The Predator just kills for sport, keeping the skulls as trophies. Yet he does like a fair fight. Which is why he never went after the woman. She never had a weapon.
Right. As a Sportsman, the Predator sees no sport in killing an unarmed non-combatant. What would the boast be when he went home to hang with his fellow hunters? Predator: "Hey guys! You wouldn't believe it. I snuck up using camouflage and totally killed this helpless woman who was literally not a threat to me!!!" His Predator Buddies: ... -_- .... Dangit Carl. How many times do we have to tell you? It don't count if they aren't fighting back! LOL 😂😅😂😅
Fun fact. Arnold wasnt acting when he first seen the predator. He had never seen the costume design for the predator before this scene so it was a genuine shock to him and he couldnt help but speak the line "You are one ugly motherfucker" which was totally off script but was kept as the director enjoyed his reaction
In Predator 2 (1990) When Mike Harrigan at the Slaughterhouse unmasked the Yautja City Hunter in ‘97 he said the same thing until the City Hunter grabbed him by the neck and finished off the line.
@Addie Counts the predator speices is called the Yautja. It does what it does because he is a trophy hunter. It only hunts those who are "worthy quarry" it's entire culture revolves are hunting for sport and glory. It won't hunt a target that it thinks isn't worth it's time, such as individuals who are sick, weak, unarmed, or pregnant. it won't kill kill those individuals because their is no "honor " in doing that. Basically the best way to survive against the predator is to simply not be armed with any weapons and look as non-threatening as possible.
It suffered under the weight of its own ad campaign. If the studio had just given them a few more months and released it as a teen film, which is what it was, the film would have done reasonably well. But they were so set on having a summer blockbuster that they oversold it targeting the wrong audience and it imploded. You're right that it's under-rated, but it's not the best work of anyone involved.
@@cmlemmus494 Sure, not the best work of anyone involved but still a super fun ride. I'm not so sure about it being a teen movie though. There were some rather adult moments to it that I think shoved it out of the teen category. Maybe that's why they had such a hard time marketing it? It didn't quite fit nicely into any specific boxes? Part teen, part comedy, part action, part satire?
Great reaction, Addie. The Predator was a hunter collecting trophies of his kills, as people would do of wild animals, going from world to world to do so. Other Arnie films to react to which I recommend are: 'True Lies' which is an action adventure comedy, 'Total Recall' Sc-Fi action film, 'Twins' a comedy, 'End of Days' which is horror action film, there are others but these are some of my favourites.
The pilot of the helicopter at the end of the movie was the late Kevin Peter Hall, the actor who played the Predator. He would also play the Predator in 1990's Predator 2. In the comedy Harry And The Hendersons, he played Harry(Bigfoot). And the Predator hunts because he is on safari, like when people go big game hunting in Africa. The entire Predator species travel to other planets to hunt, always with the goal of looking for the biggest challenge in the prey they choose to hunt.
"Let's get muddy!" - line of the video. :) In answer to your question, the reason the Predator does it is for sport. It likes hunting. It picks soldiers and other "dangerous" people (which is why it leaves Anna alive. Dutch says "it didn't kill you because you were unarmed. No sport."). It collects skulls of "worthy" opponents as trophies, like Billy because he challenged the Predator in melee combat rather than using guns.
The soundtrack of the movie is severely underrated. Alan Silvestri's score is fantastic and imo, has a large contribution why the movie had such a great vibe.
McTiernan knew how to make movies. 'Die Hard', 'The Hunt for Red October', 'Last Action Hero'. Even with 'Medicine Man' he did all he could do. And 'Basic', what a ride.
The predator was here on safari, to hunt for sport. He collected the skulls as trophies. Arnold ultimately has to use his mind and wits to defeat the predator. The movie evolves from action/military to a feeling of a prehistoric/primal battle.
Remember seeing this film as a kid, scared the hell outta me, how the predator looks, the sounds it makes, when we look thru its eyes, how its invisible and been in a forest all make this film epic. Predator and terminator 2 in my opinion are the 2 best sci fi ever!
The Predator is essentially a big game hunter, on an intergalactic scale. His actions can be broken down into several basic categories, as long as he's not in a situation where he's pressed for time. Bodies that are hung without being skinned, just gutted, are basically for eating. Didn't provide any challenges, should have done better, get tossed in the food bin. Skinned bodies mean they tried to put up a fight, were fun, and are now being used as territory markers and fear tactics, to make other potential prey more alert and afraid. Removing the spine and head is one of the highest signs of respect the Predator can show. It means that person showed bravery in the face of their own death and fought to the end even though they knew they couldn't win. So he takes the head for the skull to add to his trophy collection.
My favorite scenes in the Predator movies are when you see the Predator/Yautja tending to his injuries. It shows he’s not like your standard unkillable mindless monster, and instead an intelligent sports hunter who relies on skill as well as strength
Predators are a technologically advanced species called "Yautja". Yautja society is a tribal one and they gain status within their ranks based on their hunting trophies. This one was a juvenile which is why Dutch was able to defeat him. If it had been an experienced or elder Yautja, Dutch probably would have lost. Don't get me wrong Dutch is an absolute beast but Yautja are no joke.
I think most reactors miss this but the actual trap is a snare designed to yank the target into the spikes. The big log is the counterweight that pulls the snare up, not a separate trap. The Predator saw the "business end" of the trap but didn't notice the counterweight so that's when Dutch took advantage of it.
Predator mimicking and taunting Dutch's men is not only intimidating but downright scary! Especially when the Predator uses Billy's laugh at the end of the film before the Predator nuked himself! -OG
Addie, you are the sweetest thing. And major props to you for not only sitting through this action packed, suspenseful movie, but also bitting the bullet on your Ophidophobia throughout every single Indiana Jones movie. Don’t be afraid to react to more lighthearted movies either. For that Genre I’d recommended “Twins” staring both Arnold and Danny Devito as brothers if you can believe it! LOL! 😊
@@peju2789 That's the silliest comment I've ever read! Twins was released in 1988. His popularity and career accelerated with movies like Total Recall, Kindergarten Cop, Terminator 2, etc. after that.
@@Scottie_S sorry. It was "Junior". But Twins is not comedy in Arnold style. Just dumb movie. Only Kindergarten Cop was ok as a comedy but still nothing special.
Two fun facts: The iconic Predator clicking noise was created by Peter Cullen aka Optimus Prime, and the actor that played the soldier with the glasses created the Lethal Weapon series and The Long Kiss Goodnight.
A fun fact: One of the actors in this movie was the governor of Minnesota and he was one of the members of the Navy Seals (first generation). Next Predator movies do show their origins and why they do hunt.
The creature is officially called a Youtja. The species itself, despite being hunters, are highly advance technology wise. They have ships, cloaking devices for them personally, and for their ships, energy weapons ontop of normal bladed weapons. The best comparison is, much like how people hunt for sport, so do the Youtja (Predators). They're civilization is a honor based civilization. They show great honor and respect to whoever fights and kills one of their own. They also don't fight unarmed persons or cowering people, hense why the character Ana was ignored despite toward the end picking up one of the guns and attempting to aim it when Dutch kicked it out of her hand.
The similarities between Alien and Predator is just so good. Dutch says his crew is not expendable. While in Alien, Mother says "Crew expendable" while both are being Hunted by an alien organism lmao
Addie, other than making you jump, did the music sound a little familiar? It was composed by Alan Silvestri. He also did the music for the "Back to the Future" trilogy.
Such a fun film. The pacing in this movie is fantastic. And yes, the Predator is there to collect skulls. Think of him like an alien big game hunter, except instead of going after lions, bears, crocs etc, they go after species like humans. :D If you wind up watching the 2nd one, they reveal a bit more about the Predator species in that.
The Predator was on a hunting trip to Earth, collecting worthy trophies. The sequel Predator 2 is worth a watch, and more focused on action than suspense/horror, but Arnold is not in it.
Anna told you what the Predator was doing, making trophies. Arnold told you why it was after them, specifically. They were the dangerous game that made the trophies the Predator could be proud of.
The best way to describe The Predator is essentially he's an alien big game hunter. He just happens to go after humans and his species like to use skulls as trophies.
A movie which demonstrated how dangerous the monster was by throwing the biggest slabs of beef they could find at it until one of them wised up and stopped fighting like a soldier and started thinking like a hunter.
YES!!! MY #1 FAVORITE ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER MOVIE! Facts you didn't know about the movie: Jean Claude van Damme played the Predator in some parts of the movie, but quit production as he was tired of wearing the original suit which looked like a lizard insect hybrid. He even wanted to kickbox Arnold but the producers refused. Kevin Peter Hall, RIP, was cast as the titular character as he was more of an intimidating opponent for Arnold's character Dutch being 7'2". The PREDATOR suit was designed by Oscar Winning VFX company Stan Winston Studios and would later return to the franchise for PREDATOR 2 in 1990. The design of the Predator was based on the painting of a Rastafarian warrior that Joel Silver had in his office. The mandibles were James Cameron's idea, as both him and Stan Winston were flying to Japan to promote ALIENS. Half the cast and crew got food poisoning except for Arnold and Director McTiernan whom ate Spaghetti O's and PBJ Sandwiches. Schwarzenegger would later hire his own personal Chef to give the actors the food they needed but no hot meals were allowed due to the heat wave in Mexico so they ate protein bars instead. The producers hired a bodyguard to protect people from Sonny Landham, RIP whom played Billy, as he was prone to violent outbursts. Landham said in an interview that "We weren't making a movie, it was a survival story for all of us." The stuntman that falls off the cliff and lands in the water blew out his kneecap. It was 110 degrees in the shade while it was 42 degrees due to rain that lasted 2 weeks, making filming even more difficult. The film was a box office success, making $100 million dollars ($470 million dollars today) against an $18 million dollar budget. It was nominated for Best Visual Effects but lost to InnerSpace. It's been confirmed as one of the best Sci-fi Action movies ever made.
11:17 I think Addie is hilarious!! "WHY?!"🤣👍🏻 She gets so invested into every movie that she watches that any sudden movement or any sudden noise gets her jumping. LOL!! Great reaction video to such an iconic movie!! 😂👍🏻
Watching Addie jump and be twitchy this whole movie... is my new favourite thing, I think. Addie (as arnie goes over the falls): Can we get a break? My gallows humour: Arm, leg, or neck? (for the break...) Oh and for the record... it is a "trophy hunter" there is no point in it just the trophy. It wants to test the best among human warriors and meet them in "fair" combat... and kill the best.
I was in my second year of HS when this came out. Such a good movie and it felt like they sat on the franchise, but there were AWESOME comics that came out after. Watching you jump was hilarious. It was a big deal how gory it was back then. Of course we loved it.
A simple idea, Bad ass soldiers come across something more deadly than them in the jungle. The whole vibe and setting make this a classic action movie, with a bit of horror. After all Billy getting his spine ripped out was pretty horrifying, even though he was dead.
Arnold has some great comedies if you want a change of pace. Kindergarten Cop and Twins are two of the funniest. And True Lies is a great action comedy directed and co-written by James Cameron himself.
What I miss about the 80s and 90s films and especially Arnold movies are the sarcastic remarks and puns. It's never overly done or hand hold the viewer. Just if you catch it, great. If not, moving along.
It’s so hilarious seeing you jump so many times when the Predator’s vision comes up! The second film dives into more of what the Predator is capable of and it’s own ‘moral code’. That movie is just as great as the first Predator! Additionally, there’s a surprise reference that you’ll recognize when you see it! Great reaction, Addie! I wasn’t expecting this movie to be on the list and it was a wonderful surprise! :D
I just found your channel and….. love it ❤. You got a new subscriber 🌟🌷One of my favorites action movie 🍿 just so you know, there are more Predator movies. They are Hunters, traveling through our galaxy ; testing their skills and strength with other creatures, in this case… Man. They take their skulls as trophies.
Predator 2 and Prey are must-watches. A great reaction thanks, Addie. Most Arnie movies are fun from Conan onwards, including comedies like Twins and True Lies. (There are films before Conan, but you really don't want to watch those.)
This is EASILY one of the greatest teen-slasher type movies ever made, mostly because it doesn't actually start like most movies in the genre, and Arnie is one of the most iconic Final Girls ever committed to film
Teens? Arnie a "Final girl"? WTF are you on??🙄 Predator's really sci-fi/action/horror. Thank God there were no teens, or the climactic fight would've been beyond ridiculous.
@Deined dude, it's a slasher movie. I mentioned "teen" because they're the most common protagonists in slashers. The lone survivor at the end of a slasher movie is called the Final Girl, even if they're a guy. Therefore, Arnie is a Final Girl.
Predators come to Earth where there is extreme heat and conflict in search of worthy opponents to hunt. The greater the challenge, the more honor the trophy will bring to the hunter. So basically they are alien sports hunters.
Perfect blend of action and sci-fi horror. Fun fact the late Kevin Peter Hall who played the Predator cameos at the end as the chopper pilot. The Predator's 'thing' is pretty much a 'hunter' collecting 'trophies' across the universe.
Interestingly the actor who played the Predator was "Kevin Peter Hall". All 7' - 2" of him. But he also played the helicopter pilot at the end who was picking up Elpidia (Anna), and Dutch (Arnold). As we say here in Texas; Y'all be safe.
@Addie Counts I'm so glad that you reacted to this movie 😁 I hope that you continue with the franchise 🙏 there is actually has some interesting lore and world building.

I love how addie goes from RBF to the prettiest smile in no time. haha.
Never seen anyone jump so much at the transitions! Very entertaining reaction to a great and enduring film.
Facts you didn't know about the movie:
Jean Claude van Damme played the Predator in some parts of the movie, but quit production as he was tired of wearing the original suit which looked like a lizard insect hybrid.
Landham said in an interview that "We weren't making a movie, it was a survival story for all of us."
The stuntman that falls off the cliff and lands in the water blew out his kneecap.
Kevin Peter Hall also played the pilot of the rescue chopper at the end of the movie.
Addie jumping at the mini-gun was peak RUclips
The jump scares every time we switch to thermal is beyond hilarious. Great comedy from a really unique channel. :)
(for the break...)
Oh and for the record... it is a "trophy hunter" there is no point in it just the trophy. It wants to test the best among human warriors and meet them in "fair" combat... and kill the best.
And a legendary Hollywood monster was born… I’m not just taking about the alien creature, I’m talking about the production.
Watching you jump at every little thing was adorable.
I LOVE this movie, and seeing someone watch it for the first time...Gold!
You just began one of the coolest movie franchises ever!
I was in my second year of HS when this came out. Such a good movie and it felt like they sat on the franchise, but there were AWESOME comics that came out after.
Watching you jump was hilarious. It was a big deal how gory it was back then. Of course we loved it.
Sir are you in UK or USA?
@@southlondon86 USA
A simple idea, Bad ass soldiers come across something more deadly than them in the jungle. The whole vibe and setting make this a classic action movie, with a bit of horror. After all Billy getting his spine ripped out was pretty horrifying, even though he was dead.
Arnold has some great comedies if you want a change of pace. Kindergarten Cop and Twins are two of the funniest. And True Lies is a great action comedy directed and co-written by James Cameron himself.
True Lies is a remake with steroids from a french movie.
Don't forget Last Action Hero! One of Arnie's best!
Taking a shot every time Addie got scared
The first and classic remains the most fan-favorite.
Addie should be a Twitch streamer with all the twitching she did watching this movie haha
underrated comment
the jumpscares were the best. no other video reaction has it in the same moments. Congrats Addie😅
FYI, to the editor, I very much appreciate the new visual format with the movie window on the side. Good choice.
I also love predators
Hercules in New York is a masterpiece!
@@mblackwl The Villain (1979) was a fun one too!
Pumping iron is iconic.
Prey was an insult.
This is EASILY one of the greatest teen-slasher type movies ever made, mostly because it doesn't actually start like most movies in the genre, and Arnie is one of the most iconic Final Girls ever committed to film
Teens? Arnie a "Final girl"? WTF are you on??🙄
Predator's really sci-fi/action/horror.
Now watch Arnold Schwarzenegger again in Commando, Kindergarten Cop & True Lies.
Predators come to Earth where there is extreme heat and conflict in search of worthy opponents to hunt. The greater the challenge, the more honor the trophy will bring to the hunter. So basically they are alien sports hunters.
Yeap, like taking your boat out in the weekend and go fishing with the boys
Wonder if they got a cabellas or bass pro shop.
Every time I watch this movie my facial hair rapidly grows.
Perfect blend of action and sci-fi horror. Fun fact the late Kevin Peter Hall who played the Predator cameos at the end as the chopper pilot. The Predator's 'thing' is pretty much a 'hunter' collecting 'trophies' across the universe.
"The demon who makes trophies of men" and the collection of skulls didn't give you a hint that yes the skulls are trophies!???
"I ain't got time to bleed"
"Well you ARE bleeding"
😂
Interestingly the actor who played the Predator was "Kevin Peter Hall". All 7' - 2" of him. But he also played the helicopter pilot at the end who was picking up Elpidia (Anna), and Dutch (Arnold).
As we say here in Texas; Y'all be safe.
Masterpiece ever. Great
@Addie Counts I'm so glad that you reacted to this movie 😁 I hope that you continue with the franchise 🙏 there is actually has some interesting lore and world building.
*This movie was filmed here in Mexico, in the mountains of Puerto Vallarta! There is even a theme park with zip lines for tourists.*
19:51 I'm so glad she included this part, watching her reaction to it had me laughing so hard! 🤣
