And then if they want even more of those two; after that they can watch Batman and Robin. Also, if we want them to suffer, we can make them watch Batman and Robin.
A little bit of trivia: The Predator's iconic clicking sound was done by voice actor Peter Cullen, best known as the voice of Optimus Prime, who got the inspiration from the sound of the wriggling legs of an overturned horseshoe crab he saw as a kid. And, the actor who wore the Predator suit has an out-of-costume cameo as the helicopter pilot at the end
The helicopter pilot at the end of the movie was Kevin Peter Hall, the actor who played the Predator. He also played the Predator in 1990's Predator 2. Shane Black, the actor who played Hawkins, co-wrote the screenplays for the Lethal Weapon film and the cult classic The Monster Squad. He also directed 2018's The Predator, which has a lot of throwbacks to the first two films. And Prey was amazing. In my humble opinion, I found it to be the best film in the franchise since the original. I also love how it is set three hundred years before the first one. And Predator 2 and Prey are connected to one another.
Actually the only connection in prey to the predator movies is the flintlock pistol. Other than that, it was no more than a pale cash grab. Being no high tech weapons from the predator, he kills anything that moves regardless of sport(referencing the ground beef he left before the confrontation) hell the predator didn't even wear his breath mask in prey, he just wore a flat lenseless visor. Predator 2 established that even when the predator takes off the helmet, he runs out of breath after extended periods of time. He was huffing and puffing on a breather mask on the rooftop before Danny Glover (Mike Harrigan is the character name) knocked him off the side of the building and cut his arm off.
There was something about Prey that made me very curious about Predator: How much do any of these characters understand about what they are facing? In Prey, you are lucky to find someone who believes the Earth is round and orbits around the sun. Do they understand extraterrestrials? And what do Dutch, Dillion, and Billy (the 3 smartest members of this group) understand about what is happening here?
The name Jim Hopper from Stranger Things is a deliberate reference to Predator. Predator 2, Predators, and Prey are all worth a watch and are each unique in their own ways while expanding the lore.
@@kingsora6352 I saw it in theaters when I was 18 and remember not caring for it. Rewatched it for the first time since then after I watched Prey and liked it a lot more. Far from perfect but builds interesting lore and has at least 2 Top 5 Predator moments for me.
The predator decides to fight Dutch hand to hand out of respect. The creature has a code of honor. Apparently no man has ever given him as much trouble as Dutch so he felt like he found a worthy adversary.
Yeah, Predators aren't just mindless killers; they go to planets actively seeking a challenge. They want to find the Apex predator on that planet to fight and kill it. That's what their entire society is built on.
@@Meowtro and they even indoctrinate other species with the code of honor that they are safe, if they win against the predators. Multiple instances of Yautja becoming allies with their worthy adversaries.
Dam straight. It's easy for some to forget just how intelligent the Yautja are. One ugly MF, but they are more intelligent than humans. If these things actually existed there would be no humans around. Mabey 1 or 2 rare combatants that live long enough just because the Yautja deemed it for a worthy death.
@Khari Lane he's a little cooky but overall had good policies as governor. Today he's more so on the progressive side which turned off some fans who thought because he was a big masculine dude that he'd be some staunch right winger 😅
The Predator is basically a big game hunter on Safari on Earth collecting trophies. When he lifted up Arnold near the end he was examining him to see if there's anything different about him since he gave the Predator so much more trouble than the rest
I really think Predator 2 (1990) explains a lot more about what’s happening and feels like a completion to this story before these movies changed to just slasher films.
YES!!!! MY #1 FAVORITE ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER MOVIE! Facts you didn't know about the movie: Jean Claude van Damme played the Predator in some parts of the movie, but quit production as he was tired of wearing the original suit, which looked like a lizard insect hybrid. He even wanted to kickbox Arnold but the producers refused. Kevin Peter Hall, RIP, was cast as the titular character as he was more of an intimidating opponent for Arnold's character Dutch being 7'2". Hall even makes a cameo appearance as the helicopter pilot at the end of the movie. Oscar Winning VFX company Stan Winston Studios designed the PREDATOR suit for the film and would later return to the franchise for PREDATOR 2 in 1990. Half the cast and crew got food poisoning except for Arnold and Director McTiernan whom ate Spaghetti O's and PBJ Sandwiches like Spielberg and Ford on Raiders Of The Lost Ark. Schwarzenegger would later hire his own personal Chef to give the actors the food they needed. No hot meals were allowed due to the heatwave in Mexico. The producers hired a bodyguard to protect people from Sonny Landham, RIP whom played Billy as, as he was prone to violent outbursts. Landham said in an interview that "We weren't making a movie it was a survival story for all of us." The scene where the stuntman falls off the cliff and lands in the water blew out his kneecap. It was 110° in the shade while it was 42 at night It rained for 2 weeks, making filming even more difficult. The film was a box office and critical success making $100 million dollars ($360 million dollars today) against an $18 million dollar budget. It was nominated for Best Visual Effects but lost to InnerSpace. It's now considered to be one of the best Sci-fi Action movies ever made.
Predator has some great BTS stories. I would like to add that the scene where they unload on the forest was because some executive thought there weren't enough shootouts in the movie... So McTiernan did that scene and it's, I think, the scene where the most amount of ammo was used up... Ever. Or at least at the time. Also Hawkins is played by Shane Black... Writer of Lethal Weapon, Last Boy Scout, Iron Man 3, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, The Last Action Hero and, eventually, The Predator (though that one.... Yeah). In fact he wrote the script for Lethal Weapon (as well as worked as an on-set script doctor for this one) during filming. Also the original design for the Predator, as you mention, was... Less than stellar, and it was actually James Cameron who designed the Predator as we know him today as a favor to Stan Winston. Hence the vagina mouth (Cameron likes to inject a lot of feminist or Freudian ideas in his designs).
In one of the special features the design artist was in a plane next to James Cameron who saw the facial designs of the predator. He suggested that it would look cool if he added dreadlocks on it. The design artist pretended to act like it was whatever but immediately saw it as a cool idea and created a dreadlock type of hair on it.
A lot of Jen's questions on the Predator at the end I believe are answered in the sequel. Side question: Did you guys ever see any of Jesse Ventura's moments in professional wrestling? He was a colorful character even back then.
Jesse was a Navy Seal in Vietnam also. I remember him wrestling and when he hurt his back and couldn't wrestle anymore so he became a color commentator with Gorilla Monsoon.
I really liked that they had a female survivor, that was neither really a damsel in distress nor a love interest. Oh, and yes Jen, Predator 2 might give you a little bit of background (or info that is fun to speculate with/on).
I agree, the Predator creature design is one of the greatest ever, instantly iconic and timeless. Hats off to Stan Winston, he's a true master of his craft. Before he came aboard the Predator was supposed to be a giant lobster played by Van Damme or something. Also, you might be interested to know that the clicking sound that the Predator makes was invented and performed by Peter Cullen, the voice actor of Optimus Prime. Also, I think the music deserves praise as well, Silvestri killed it so much that the music pretty much became synonymous with the creature. I would recommend to watch Predator 2, it's not as good, but a decent sequel and it's definitely canon to the new Prey movie, there are some callbacks. Predators is also not bad. A little too much fan service for my taste, but an interesting take on the Predators themselves, because the ones in that movie are more like poachers than honorable hunters. A lot like those Trandoshans in that one Clone Wars arc you watched, where they kidnapped and hunted Jedi younglings =D And definitely check out Prey, it's very good. AvP stuff, on the other hand, I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole. As well as The Predator by Shane Black. It's awful.
Absolutely agree, with the exception of AvP. I really like it, even with all it's faults. Only the first one though. The 2nd one was terrible in my opinion. And I couldn't finish Shane Blacks movie, even though I love most of his movies
I was lucky enough to visit the Predator filming location in 2015. It's now a zip-line tourist attraction just outside of Puerto Vallarta, and the building seen 9:24 is now a restaurant next to the river. They even have a life-sized statue of the Predator there!
@@2KILLAVILLE I greatly enjoyed Predators as well. The only one that sucks _major_ ass is 'The Predator' which came out recently. I honestly think the AVP series is pretty meh. They're good for a turn your brain off popcorn movie and not much else. Then again, that's what most action movies are for soooo...
100% recommend the Dark Horse Predator comics and even the more recent Marvel comics as well. The Predator: The Original Years Omnibus Vol. 1 by Marvel (The Comic issues themselves are by Dark Horse Comics Marvel just put them all together as a Omnibus) is a heavily recommendation after you watch Predator 2 it's just the perfect series of comic issues that will keep you entertained for a while. Think of the Omnibus as a remaster by Marvel with update colours and overall better quality but still maintains the amazing 1990s art work and art style. Marvel did the same thing with the Old Republic and Tales of the Jedi comics from the 1990s releasing a Omnibus with updated panels. There's also new Marvel comics as well which could even tie into future 20th Century Studios produced Predator films as Disney does own the rights now to Predator after they bought 20th Century Fox. The Alien vs Predator comics are so much better than the AVP films they have a more Aliens feel to them using the colonial marines along with many of the weapons and armour introduced in Aliens but of course with a Predator thrown in to combat humans and Aliens. They also expand the lore greatly more than any of the movies and not to mention the novels as well which are really good. There's also comics that showcase Predators in different periods of human history from The Golden Age of Piracy to Feudal Japan. They also did fun crossovers such as Batman VS Predator so it's such a fun read. Predator 1 and Predator 2 are my personal favourite followed by Prey which I did really like. Predators is very interesting while the first Alien vs Predator film was fun while the 2nd was pretty meh. The Predator from like 2018 or something is just garbage so yeah this hope you enjoy a good amount of these films. Imagine if this series had a Kevin Feige type person behind it a cinematic Alien and Predator universe would kick ass if they based stories off the comics.
This movie is actually way smarter than you'd think. The team is introduced as absolute badasses. They joke around, are not afraid of anything, shrug off injuries and take out a whole camp of heavily armed enemies. All that is necessary to establish them as the tip of the food-chain. Then however things take a different turn and the hunters become the hunted... and from that on even the jokes die.
One bit of trivia about the predator, the guy in the predator suit was the black helicopter pilot at the end of the movie and he also was in the alien costume in alien 1.
One of the many things I like about the franchise, at least the first two, is that the Predator's have subtle differences in their behavior. The first, is a seasoned hunter that does everything with purpose, like decloaking so Mac will follow him. The second is more reckless and is more bloodthirsty, that doesn't mind taking on multiple opponents at once.
I like that they are nuances that you don't necessarily pick up on the first viewing. For example, it took me a second viewing to realize that the Predator purposefully drove the boar into their camp to steal Blane's body in the confusion. And also how he blew off Dillan's arm in order to close in for the melee kill. He was definitely having fun with these guys =D
First is not seasoned hunter. There are no marks at his helmet. Both Yautja are juth. Seasoned hunters are hunting Aliens and more dangerous things than human. Read the book. Some of them are really good.
@Rick King 22 You're thinking of Peter Weller who played Robocop in the first two Robocop films and even voiced Batman in The Dark Knight Returns Animated films. Peter Cullen voiced Optimus Prime, The Predator, Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh, Monterey Jack from Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers and KARR in Knight Rider to name a few.
FUNNY MOVIE FACTS ABOUT PREDATOR - * Shane Black ( Playing Hawkins - The ‘Joke Guy’ ) was hired to work on and rewrite the Script - He agreed in exchange of getting a role in the Movie * Jean Claude VanDamme was supposed to be playing the predator but got ‘let go’ after he realized no one would see his face in the Predator Suit. * Most of the Acting Crew got sick ( Caught the ‘Tourista’ aka Food poisoning ) while shooting the Movie * Annie won a Bottle a champagne as he made a bet that his biceps were bigger than Ventura’s. With the Wardrobe crew on his side and misleading Ventura into agreeing to the bet. * Even to this day, the Predator’s outfit and mask, created by Stan Winston ( and influenced by James Cameron ) is still holding to this day as one of the Best Sci-fi Monster
The reason this movie works so well is because it spends the first 1/3rd of the movie building up the special forces team as an unstoppable force á la the stereotypical 80's action movie, and then turns that on its head by turning them into the hunted and showing just how inept they are compared to the Predator.
Great reaction. Good point that Arnold's team was shown early on to be an expert commando squad. They weren't just a bunch of macho guys. It made the Predator attack more compelling and more frightening. The sound design and sound effect editing was tremendous. In a movie theater with a big screen and an excellent sound system, you often got a great sense of where the Predator was even when he blended in with the trees or was high up in the forest.
Early in filming the Predator was a really dumb looking neon orange lobster looking thing played by none other than Jean Claude Van Damme (yes that guy). He was fired for "reasons" and the Predator completely redesigned into the iconic creature we know today. They brought in 7 foot 3 inch Kevin Peter Hall to be the new Predator. He can be seen piloting the chopper that picks up Arnold at the end. The cast and crew said he was the sweetest guy you could ever meet. Kevin also played Bigfoot in Harry and the Hendersons.
The guy who plays Hawkins (the guy who tells those jokes) is Shane Black who wrote many films including Lethal Weapon, Last Action Hero, The Last Boy Scout, Iron Man 3, and others.
Fun facts: Jesse Ventura was governor of Minn before Arnold was in California. Sonny Landham (Billy) also ran for Gov of Kentucky right around the same time as the other two, but dropped out eventually. Landham was also a 70's adult film star, and was so intense in his role as Billy, the movie studio hired bodyguards for the rest of the cast to protect them from him. Jesse Ventura did another Arnold movie (The Running Man), but I can't believe you don't know him from professional wrestling. Of course, he got his start in the US Navy as a frogman. This was before Navy Seals were officially a thing, but he was the equivalent. A true Bad Ass. Oh, and a young Jean Claude Van Damn was the body actor who played the suited Predator early in filming, but dropped out because filming conditions on set were so brutal. Too hot for him....pansy.
The guy telling the girlfriend jokes was played by Shane Black, who you might know as the writer/director of films such as "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang," "The Nice Guys," and "Iron Man 3."
The Predator species are known as the Yautja .. They are a warrior race who live by a code and rules. One I remember for sure from the comics and books is that they don't kill anything that isn't a threat.
from Billy's fandom wiki Billy was of half-Sioux Indian, half-Italian descent and it was from his native people that he learned his exemplary tracking skills. When he was an infant, his people would tell stories of how a Predator had once hunted their forefathers, although Billy was too young to remember these tales when he grew up. Billy notably appeared to possess something of a sixth sense, becoming aware of the Jungle Hunter's presence even before anyone had seen it, and apparently immediately deducing that the creature was not human, knowledge that unnerved him greatly. His perception of the Predator seemed to gradually drive him insane, a fact that was picked up on by the rest of the team. Ultimately, this insanity likely played a part in his decision to fight the Jungle Hunter armed only with his machete. In the film, Billy seems to have something of a sixth sense regarding the Predator. In the novelization, however, his powers go even further, and he is said to be actively psychic, able to access the memories of his ancestors and the ancient Mayans who used to live in the jungle and can actively sense the Predator's presence.
I actually enjoy the first AvP a lot. Yes they were stingy in the gore department (and it's PG-13!!!), but it's a lean, fun, surprisingly progressive monster mash and, tbf I have some nostalgia for it due to the time it was released. That being said, James Cameron agrees with me: it's the best Alien sequel other than his own. Yes even than Prometheus, and a decent adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness" (I mean, its plot is taken wholesale from that). Edit: I have to admit that Paul W.S. Anderson (AvP's director and also responsible for the Resident Evils movies) is a guilty pleasure auteur of mine.
@@damyr55 It is quite a good movie on its own merits but, as is so often the case, if you have read the book it is based upon it is so much less than it should have been.
i liked both the AVP movies myself. my main complaint about the second one is that its just too dark - you can barely see whats happening in a lot of scenes
I also read somewhere a while back that had Schwarzenegger lost the CA governor election back in 2003, he would have reprised his role as Dutch in AvP. Not sure how true that was, but that would have been cool to see.
Arnold's iconic one-liners in this as well as in Commando (1985) and other films always make his films better and give us that comedic relief that we need in serious situations. The fact that his name is Dutch even though he's Austrian was fantastic. The Predator is one of the best villains in movie history in my opinion. Glad Jen went into this blind; I hope the second one will be watched at some point in the future. Holden, I think Jen will enjoy "The Running Man."
I like how Jen brought up the birth control glasses!! I had BCGs in AF basic. I was Security Forces and went to the Tactical Automated Sensor System school and learned how to set up and operate infrared camera surveillance equipment and alarm sensors. The rainbow setting on the Wide area Surveillance Thermal Imager (WSTI), white being hot, and the rainbow colors represented descending temps to black being cold, was referred to as "predator vision." Ah, good times!
The Yautja (that's the name of the Predator's species, pronounced roughly like yah-oot-ja) have some incredibly deep lore and a vast culture. You'll get to see some of it as you get through watching the other movies (except for the 2018 one, that spit in the face of alot of Yautja lore). Watched this movie and its direct sequel when I was about 11 or 12, I think. Imo there isn't a single alien species in all of cinema that beats out the Yautja.
"Dillon, you son of a bith!" "I ain't got time to bleed" "If it bleeds, we can kill it" "Get to the chopper!" (Get too da choppah!) There's an insane amount of one liners from this movie that's stuck around as pop culture still today.
Anna gives some of the backstory 'The demon who makes trophies of men', and that it only happens in the hottest years. AVP2 makes the inept AVP look like a masterpiece
@Holden Hardman The black helicopter pilot you see at the end when they pick up Dutch is the actor that played the Yautja (Predator). His name was Kevin Peter Hall. He also returned and played the second Yautja in part 2, but he died from HIV due to a blood transfusion he received after a bad car accident.
This is arguably my favorite film of all time!!! I still remember where I was, what theater I was in, what day it was and who I was with the first time I saw this on it's initial release back in 1987... AND I NEVER RECOVERED FROM THAT EXPERIENCE! None of the sequels measure up to the first because they've all ignored WHAT the Predator is. The Predator is NOT a "warrior", it is NOT a "soldier", it is NOT a "mass killer", the Predator is a TROPHY HUNTER. It picks out one target at a time to go after and does not kill again until it claims the trophy from that individual hunt. Example: It did not kill again until AFTER it went back and took Blain's body to claim it's trophy. Predators are not of any "noble" mindset as a warrior or soldier might be. They hunt for sport and bragging rights to each other and keep only their trophies, leaving the rest of the kill wasted. The sequels seem to ignore this and make the Predators out to be some kind of honorable combatants trained for warfare...which they're not. They portray them as killing GROUPS of people at a time which a "hunter" would not do. The Predator here could have killed the entire team at one time if it wanted to (as the sequels would do) but, then it wouldn't be a "hunt"... GREAT vid guys! Keep 'em comin'!
It was so funny how she described Arnold after the movie, as "in control", because it immediately made me think of KINDERGARTEN COP and how he was so NOT in control. I really hope you watch that movie. By the way, Holden is awesome at not giving anything away whenever Jen asks him questions. Good job! Thanks for another fun review, and good luck with the cabinet! Keep smiling 🙂👍
this is a classic action movie from the 80's i grew up with. I will say, definately watch Prey (was a Hulu exclusive film that should have been in theaters) when you get the chance. it is a great movie, gives a bit more backstory history to the franchise and has a direct connection to the 2nd Predator movie(will have to watch and pay attention to items from that movie). and yes Jessie Ventura is the 2 time former gov. of Minnesota, but was also an actor and a pro. wrestler before his time as gov. and mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.
Now imagine if you will, it is Friday 12 June 1987. You and your buddies each just spent approximately 20 dollars worth of quarters in the arcade; grabbed some eats at Burger King and chatting about our excitement since Big Trouble In Little China, then herded to the second row in a packed theater to excitedly watch Predator.
Sooo cool that you guys watched this movie. One of the best out there! Fun Fact: This movie was directed by John McTiernan who also directed a little known movie called Die Hard. Please watch some of the Terminator movies in the future too. Can't believe Jen hasn't watched any Terminator movies yet. Crazy. :P But yeh, Predator is sooo good. :)
Well here ya go. The chronology of the Alien / Predator Universe 1. Prey (2022) - Takes place in 1719 2. Predator (1987) - Takes place in 1987 3. Predator 2 (1990) - Takes place in 1997 4. Alien VS Predator (2004) - Takes place in 2004 (no longer considered canon) 5. Alien VS Predator: Requiem (2007) - Takes place immediately following AVP. (no longer considered canon) 6. The Predator (2018) - Takes place in 2018 7. Blade Runner (1982) - Takes place in 2019. (Ridley Scott, director of Alien and Blade Runner sees the films as intrinsically linked.) 8. Predators (2010) - Takes place about 2025, but can fit anywhere. 9. Soldier (1998) - Opens in 1996 then jumps to 2036. (Some of the wars the soldiers fight in are the same ones the replicant Roy Batty was a veteran of in Blade Runner.) 10. Blade Runner: 2049 (2017) - Takes place in 2049. 11. Prometheus (2012) - Opens "millions of years ago" then jumps to 2089. 12. Alien: Covenant (2017) - Takes place in 2104 13. Alien (1979) - Takes place in 2122 14. In the first episode, during a space dogfight, you get a view of the Weyland-Yutani corporation logo from Alien.
Love this classic. A true man's film. The cast is just pure testosterone. Just wish Sly was in it too. Can you imagine Arnold and Stallone in a film together in the 80's and 90's, right in their prime. This film still kicks major ass. Oh and fyi, the Predators are knows as Yautja. That's their species name. There are different clans and species of Yautja, like Beserker Predators. Their similar in appearance slightly but have different genetic codes. They're highly intelligent hunters for sport and dominance. Even went as far as breeding Xenomorphs to hunt. That's how badass they are. I know pretty much all there is to know about the Yautja. Huge Alien and Predator nerd right here. Awesome reaction.
The cast is pure testosterone, but not too many people understand that the whole testosterone deal doesn't mean crap against the predator. It was a commentary on the whole "manly man" type, while also using it in the movie.
Highly acclaimed special effects artist Stan Winston, was brought in to re-design the predator costume. Under recommendation from his good friend Arnold Schwarzenegger, since they both had worked together previously on "The Terminator". The producers realized the original costume look was disappointing to say the least and also due to problems on set with the original creature suit (which was worn by Jean Claude Van Damme) It is a well known effects industry story that Stan got inspiration for the predators iconic face/look from James Cameron. They both were on a flight to Japan, while sketching ideas for the new predator outfit. Stan mentioned how he was under a lot of pressure to redesign the predator suit and he was worried about failing the producers, since the first costume was a fail. During the conversation, James Cameron mentioned how he would love to see a creature with mandibles. Stan Winston took that idea and went to town on designing the Predator we got to see in the movie. I had the pleasure to have met Stan Winston while in college, when he came for a speaking engagement. Truly a legend RIP
To Jen, An alien is just any being not from Earth. It doesn't have to look like anything similar to what we have on Earth (fish, animals, etc). They can be technologically advanced or they can even be non-sentient. Aliens don't even have to have a shape, body, or physical form. Just wanted to clarify since it came up a lot during alien week.
Anna explained the whole story of when "something comes" when the weather get really hot, and "it grows really hot". The sound effects of the predator is brilliant. I guess it is the sequels that you really get sensitive to the sound, but it has the same effect as the Jaws theme. You hear the "click click click" and you know the predator is watching....
This series is worth watching, you can see that epic actioness, the next one keeps getting rougher and rougher, also amazing actors that have come into the whole series, and fun fact the predator's blood was based off of the mountain dew drink which was getting more popular at the time and it has that like brightness which is some sort of like a bioluminessence effect to it,check out the whole series guys it maybe quite rougher but the end result is like phew...finally they're gone,i won't have to be scared and horrified
Yeah AVP imo is the best of all the alien & predator films. Even though Hayden doesn’t like it, Jen might. It’s very mixed in the fan base & divides people, while Requiem is just completely hated.
I just happened across your channel and I have to say your chemistry is amazing. She went from, what’s a terminator to knowing x-files episodes? What a ride! I hope both of you are doing great.
One of the best action movies ever made. Here are some interesting tidbits; 1) when Stan Winston was hired to create a new creature design he was flown in. On the flight he sat next to James Cameron who suggested to Winston it would be cool to have a monster with crab-like mandibles. 2) the new creature design caused a production delay of a few months. But unlike in the Amazon, this movie was shot in Mexico where the jungle does experience seasons and in the fall the leaves were turning brown and fell off the trees. Delaying production would have been too expensive so they flew in plants from the U.S. as set dressing in an actual jungle.
They are not wasting ammunition, it is a military tactic for very specific situations, it is like sweeping an area to shoot someone or for the opponent to find out about the firepower. And they do not have unlimited supplies, in this scene you can see that they take turns, some shoot while others reload and vice versa.
One of film composer Alan Silverstri's most sought out scores. It's amazing, but what's even more amazing and awesome is his score to the sequel, "Predator 2"(my favorite by Silverstri). The percussions are just insane.
Fun fact: the director John mctiernan had to fight to get Carl weathers in the film. He says he needed Carl in order “to show Arnold how to act.” The confrontation scene between the too was one of the direct reasons he (director) knew he needed someone to usher Arnold through the scene. Arnold himself has said of how much he learned of acting from Carl weathers through this film as well.
That's not true at all, where do you pull this shit from? The original idea for Predator came from a joke in Hollywood after Rocky IV that Rocky had run out of earthly opponents, he would have to fight an alien if a fifth film were to be made. They wanted big and imposing actors to play the commandos, that's part of the reason Carl Weathers was chosen, plus the fact that he was in Rocky & the idea came from a Rocky joke was another reason wht they thought of him. They didn't have to fight to get Carl Weathers in the movie, he was first choice to play Dillon.
I'd love it if you did Predator 2 and Prey. Prey has a great concept and interesting characters. Predator 2 was written by the Thomas Brothers who also wrote the original, set in an urban environment and opens up Predator lore. And I love how they were able to make Prey a very different film in many aspects, stylistically, as it was in a historical setting, but they were still able to reference the original and tie it to the Predator lore.
Still warms my heart how well the original Predator film still stands the test of time. It's a timeless science fiction/horror/action classic for a reason. You could release this film in theaters today, without any context or knowledge of the series, and it would still be popular. The sequels...well...the less we speak of them, the better.
What I love about this movie, is the director, McTiernan, threw together the scene where they turn the jungle into salad just after Blain is killed, because of studio interference. The suits, or petty cash officers as I call them, were sending daily notes to McTiernan about "needing more gunfire". The petty cash officers, thought that even after the complex scene where they take out loads of bad guys, the film was short on action. McTiernan decided to have the scene with Mac seeing the Predator go from a simple "Mac sees the Predator, the Predator flashes its eyes and runs into the jungle... and that's it, scene over"... to instead having every character on screen at the same time for 60 seconds of continuous gunfire to shut the suits up for good and let him make his movie in peace. I do hope you guys do RoboCop though. Greatest sci-fi-horror-action movie ever made. Subbed!
Fun fact - One of the Carl Weathers right hand trilogy. He loses his right arm here, in Happy Gilmore, he plays a former golfer who lost his right arm to a Croc and in Toy Story of Terror, he was Combat Carl who has lost his right hand (to an iguana).
"Is that Bigfoot?" Funny enough, the actor who played the Predator, Kevin Peter Hall actually played Bigfoot in Harry & The Hendersons. He was a 7ft tall actor who passed away in 1991 due to complications from AIDS.
You guys should HOW IT SHOULD HAVE ENDED. They did one for Predator years ago and its harilious because it does the whole concept of, "What would have happened had they all dropped their weapons" at that point that you asked about lol. If you do ever watch keep in mind there's like after credit scenes and such.
Ventura is also a real special forces veteran. During the Vietnam war he was a part of an Underwater Demolition Team. Today UDT's are known as the USN SEAL teams.
Since Jen was impressed by the Predator's face design, she might be interested to know that the Predator was designed by the Legendary Stan Winston. But during an interview he said that he was stuck when it came to designing the Predator. And while he was on a flight during that time, his companion was James Cameron. While talking, Cameron asked Stan what else he was currently working on and Stan told him about Predator and his struggle with creating a unique look for the creature. And it was Cameron who suggested that Stan redesign the Predator's mouth and suggestes an idea that was close to what later became the iconic Predator mouth.
There's a video over in Corridor Crew's channel where they actually tested the mud vs. infared vision and it turns out that mud actually hides you VERY well, even from the latest models.
5:15 The first scene of the movie was a spaceship dropping something onto Earth. Then they roll more credits into a military movie. They tell you and then almost make sure you forget for the whole first part of the movie. I don't want to say "masterful" but it is very well executed, it still works on subsequent viewings to redirect your attention, in the moment, even when you know what's supposed to be coming later.
The reason the Predator didn’t go for the Gorillas is because it likes a good hunt that’s the reason they come to earth they come to look for a good hunt to prove them selves worthy as powerful predators. If you guys watch all the movies you will probably understand it more.
25:00 yes he was sent on purpose. As the girl said, they come from time to time during the hottest summers to hunt. Which also leads us to understanding that their thermo thing isn't the best. Coming during the hottest summers will make it easier to "see" their prey. (This explains why the mud worked). Predator 2 helps clarify things a bit, since there's a bit of context shown.
Stan Winston designed The Predator. He's one of the greatest creature designers of all time. He also worked on Terminator, Aliens, Jurassic Park, The Thing, and more.
Fun fact: the first actor that was supposed to play the Predator was none other then Jean-Claude Van Damme. He thought he was going to star in some big production where he would show off his martial arts skills, but the production of "Predator" just wanted him because of the demanding physical work needed to play the Predator. One of the producers said that he was pissed during the test shooting, after having to put on a bright orange foam suit that resembled a mix between a insect and a shrimp (the first design of the Predator). After the test shoot and how goofy it looked, the production decided to change the design of the creature, which was made by the legendary Stan Winston. He also designed iconic characters like the Xenomorph Queen (Aliens) and the Terminator.
Hey, Holden and Jen! "Predator" is a Schwarzenegger action classic directed by John McTiernan, director of "Die Hard", "Die Hard with a Vengeance", "The Hunt for Red October", "Medicine Man", "The Thomas Crown Affair" and "The 13th Warrior". The Predator species name is YAUTJA (YOWT-ja). They are interstellar sportsmen whose entire culture revolves around big game hunting. They test themselves against apex predators which often includes sentient beings like man. They have a code in that they do not kill the unarmed or the infirm as it is not challenging nor do they kill pregnant prey as a way of husbanding the livestock. If vanquished, they leave no trace of themselves behind by detonating a powerful bomb so as to leave the "preserve" pristine by not contaminating the indigenous culture with their technology. As a rite of passage, they must blood themselves by killing a xenomorph from the "Alien" series. If prey is worthy by offering good sport and defeating the hunter, the tribe will bestow the victor with a trophy. There's a pretty good Predator fan film on RUclips set in the Middle Ages with knights called "Predator: Dark Ages" starring Adrian Bouchet (Steapa) from "The Last Kingdom"! The movie is an alien variant of "The Most Dangerous Game", the Richard Connell short story from 1924 which has inspired countless man-hunting-man movies like "Hard Target", "The Naked Prey", "Race with the Devil", "Southern Comfort", "The Running Man", "Surviving the Game" and "Beyond the Reach". The Central American guerrillas were probably Communists receiving supply and support from Russian advisors explaining the Soviet presence. Billy faced off against the Predator alone because he would rather die fighting than running; it was a matter of honor. He drew first blood with his machete so that the Predator would not have the privilege. It's a Native American custom. Anna was unarmed and, therefore, spared. Wounded Poncho was killed because he had already been marked as a combatant and was still holding a weapon. The Predator released Dutch, took off its mask and fought him hand-to-hand because it considered Dutch to be worthwhile prey. The last laugh was the Predator's mimicry. It was using a recording of Billy's laughter at Hawkins' lewd joke to express a fatalistic defiance to Dutch. Three of the cast went into politics! Schwarzenegger became Governor of California, former wrestler Jesse "The Body" Ventura, who played heavy-gunner Blaine, became Governor of Minnesota and Sonny Landham, who played tracker Billy, ran for Governor of Kentucky. Jean Claude Van Damme was supposed to be the Predator originally but he had difficulty with the alien suit as initially designed and was considered too small in stature to be threatening! Special Effects maestro Stan Winston was tasked with redesigning the alien to fit the 7'2" Kevin Peter Hall. The dreds were inspired by a Rastafarian painting in producer Joel Silver's office and the mandibles were the contribution of a napkin sketch by director James Cameron who shared a flight and a brainstorming conversation with Winston by pure chance! Danny Glover stars in the underrated urban-set "PREDATOR 2" which has some memorable set pieces and provides more lore! Dark Horse comics capitalized on crossing the Predator franchise with the Alien franchise inspiring Hollywood to make TWO crossover "ALIEN vs. PREDATOR" films with moderately successful to excellent results. They're fun and exciting guilty pleasures with the second one, "ALIENS vs. PREDATOR: REQUIEM", being particularly lean and mean. There is also a "PREDATORS" film produced by Robert Rodriguez that is definitely worth a look. "THE PREDATOR" (2018) REBOOT, however, should be avoided at all costs; it's a franchise-killer! The 18th-century set "PREY" is an excellent prequel to the original film which was released on Hulu August 5. The Alien films have a RICHER SUBTEXT while the Predator films are more ACTION FARE but they're both fun sci-fi thrillers. Around 1990, my GF & I went to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for a week in a friend's condo on the beach. We were told to rent a vehicle (VW Thing) & go to the El Eden to swim & for dinner in Mismaloya, Mexico. Mismaloya is south of P.V. & El Eden was down a dirt road heading into the jungle. El Eden was/is an outdoor restaurant where they filmed the firefight with the guerillas in Predator. At that time there was no electricity & all of the cooking was over wood fire. They served lunch & an early dinner as they had to be closed up by dark. It was/is located on a river with a waterfall & pool. Above the falls the riverbed is polished rock & the current will sweep you over the falls into the pool below. Having seen Predator, walking thru the jungle above the falls was a bit eerie.
AVP and AVPR are a result of a less than a minute scene in Predator 2 where the main hero sees the predator clans trophies on a wall. One of those is a Xenomorph skull.
Predators are an alien that hunt for sport which is a thing they do on their home planet. He dropped his laser and mask to make it an even fight because they fight by a code of honor which is the same reason he didn’t attack the girl who didn’t have a weapon. He doesn’t attack people/things he doesn’t see as a threat or a challenge. His mask gives him thermal vision and he can mimick voices and camouflage. The reason he nuked himself was because they don’t allow their tech to be stolen, want their remains to be discovered, etc. They also skin things they find that weren’t much of a challenge and take the skull of their victims that were worthy opponents.
If you are interested in more Arnold and Jesse Ventura 80's action goodness I highly recommend The Running Man.
Yep. Love that movie. It’s bad, but in the best ways possible. Which, honestly, kinda sums up most movies and series based on Stephen King stories.
Great call. What a fun film.
And then if they want even more of those two; after that they can watch Batman and Robin.
Also, if we want them to suffer, we can make them watch Batman and Robin.
When Jesse became Governor, he was a independent. He hates the the two party system.
" The Running Man " is a Stephen King story
A little bit of trivia:
The Predator's iconic clicking sound was done by voice actor Peter Cullen, best known as the voice of Optimus Prime, who got the inspiration from the sound of the wriggling legs of an overturned horseshoe crab he saw as a kid.
And, the actor who wore the Predator suit has an out-of-costume cameo as the helicopter pilot at the end
😊ةةةة
Shane black also directed Iron Man 3
There was something about Prey that made me very curious about Predator: How much do any of these characters understand about what they are facing? In Prey, you are lucky to find someone who believes the Earth is round and orbits around the sun. Do they understand extraterrestrials? And what do Dutch, Dillion, and Billy (the 3 smartest members of this group) understand about what is happening here?
@@gazza8799 And "The Nice Guys". Love that movie
@@Mourtzouphlos240 people hundreds of years ago knew the earth was round and the people in this film just know that something is hunting them
The name Jim Hopper from Stranger Things is a deliberate reference to Predator. Predator 2, Predators, and Prey are all worth a watch and are each unique in their own ways while expanding the lore.
Glad you gave predators a mention. No one ever really throws it out but I always thought it was a worthy addition to the series
@@kingsora6352 I saw it in theaters when I was 18 and remember not caring for it. Rewatched it for the first time since then after I watched Prey and liked it a lot more. Far from perfect but builds interesting lore and has at least 2 Top 5 Predator moments for me.
The predator decides to fight Dutch hand to hand
out of respect. The creature has a code of honor.
Apparently no man has ever given him as much
trouble as Dutch so he felt like he found a worthy adversary.
Yeah, Predators aren't just mindless killers; they go to planets actively seeking a challenge. They want to find the Apex predator on that planet to fight and kill it. That's what their entire society is built on.
Such an honourable fighter, he's invisible for 97% of the time.

The Predator is basically a big game hunter on Safari on Earth collecting trophies. When he lifted up Arnold near the end he was examining him to see if there's anything different about him since he gave the Predator so much more trouble than the rest
You are 100% correct
That fact is not fully-fleshed-out until the sequel.
this is the only predator movie i liked. the rest are crap.
I love how this channel has just turned into your guys's channel together. Its wholesome
I really think Predator 2 (1990) explains a lot more about what’s happening and feels like a completion to this story before these movies changed to just slasher films.
Predator and predator 2 are my favourites as think p2 in underrated
YES!!!!
MY #1 FAVORITE ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER MOVIE!
Facts you didn't know about the movie:
Jean Claude van Damme played the Predator in some parts of the movie, but quit production as he was tired of wearing the original suit, which looked like a lizard insect hybrid.
Landham said in an interview that "We weren't making a movie it was a survival story for all of us."
The scene where the stuntman falls off the cliff and lands in the water blew out his kneecap.
It was 110° in the shade while it was 42 at night
It rained for 2 weeks, making filming even more difficult.
Omg you know some stuff lol and how long did this take to do😂
The vagina mouth is my favorite part of the design 🤭
a close second for me, right after T2.
I can’t wait for you guys to watch the rest of both the Alien and Predator movies. Love both series so much.
A lot of Jen's questions on the Predator at the end I believe are answered in the sequel.
Side question: Did you guys ever see any of Jesse Ventura's moments in professional wrestling? He was a colorful character even back then.
He's colorful in the X-Files too... he's one if the Men in Black in one of the best episodes ever.
Jesse "the body" Ventura! With his old partner in the AWA, Adrian Adonis, were the East-West Connection as a tag team.
Don't forget him and Arnie in The Running Man.
Jesse was a Navy Seal in Vietnam also. I remember him wrestling and when he hurt his back and couldn't wrestle anymore so he became a color commentator with Gorilla Monsoon.
"Isn't he in that movie... Terminator?"
Holden immediately goes into planning mode 😂😂😂
@@damyr55 I'm with you. AVP has a special sort of guilty pleasure status in my heart.
I was lucky enough to visit the Predator filming location in 2015. It's now a zip-line tourist attraction just outside of Puerto Vallarta, and the building seen 9:24 is now a restaurant next to the river. They even have a life-sized statue of the Predator there!

2010 Predators as well
@@2KILLAVILLE I greatly enjoyed Predators as well.
AvP movie came pretty close to the books, I think trying to do it off world would have been a little more difficult and definitely more expensive.
Yes, yes, yes. 100 times, yes.
“Damn it, damn it, damn it” has me 💀💀💀. Was wondering what would happen after seeing the raw cut.
Lmfaoooo that was a classic moment 😂 10:27
One bit of trivia about the predator, the guy in the predator suit was the black helicopter pilot at the end of the movie and he also was in the alien costume in alien 1.
Such a great 80s film, and Peter Cullen, Optimus Prime himself actually made all the different Predator sounds.
@@kecenavrtep Nah.
Fun fact: The voice of Optimus Prime, Peter Cullen, did the "voice" for the Predator!
Jen: "Isn't Arnold in that movie TERMINATOR?"
Gee, it's only his most iconic role.
Prey is actually worth a watch it is really well done
FUNNY MOVIE FACTS ABOUT PREDATOR -
* Shane Black ( Playing Hawkins - The ‘Joke Guy’ ) was hired to work on and rewrite the Script - He agreed in exchange of getting a role in the Movie
* Jean Claude VanDamme was supposed to be playing the predator but got ‘let go’ after he realized no one would see his face in the Predator Suit.
* Most of the Acting Crew got sick ( Caught the ‘Tourista’ aka Food poisoning ) while shooting the Movie
* Annie won a Bottle a champagne as he made a bet that his biceps were bigger than Ventura’s.
Exactly. Which is somewhat what Cameron also does with Aliens.
@@Rorujin Not really. Yes, the marines are cocky, but they hardly give off an air of professionalism.
Loved you both discussing this. Your wife again breaks down the film terrifically basied on her likes and dislike's. Fun watch
Jim Hopper? Hawkins? The guys who made stranger things are definitely predator fans.
I think it's been confirmed that they really did get those names from this movie.
The guy who plays Hawkins (the guy who tells those jokes) is Shane Black who wrote many films including Lethal Weapon, Last Action Hero, The Last Boy Scout, Iron Man 3, and others.
Jen "isn't he in that terminator movie" LMAO. Love it. Thanks for making me laugh. I would love to see you guys react to Terminator. "I'll be back".
You might also know him as the director of predator
Let's hope he never makes anything ever again
During Anna's trophies of man monolog you get a bit of the history of the predators and implies that they have been visiting earth for a while.

*you’re
The Predator species are known as the Yautja .. They are a warrior race who live by a code and rules. One I remember for sure from the comics and books is that they don't kill anything that isn't a threat.
from Billy's fandom wiki
Billy was of half-Sioux Indian, half-Italian descent and it was from his native people that he learned his exemplary tracking skills.
I've heard some interesting stories about him living here in central Kentucky, and from what I understand he is quite a personality
@@Xonslaught1 oh yeah I bet. on set he had body guards to protect people from him.
So refreshing to see someone appreciate AvP as well. Even with all it's faults, I just like it

i liked both the AVP movies myself. my main complaint about the second one is that its just too dark - you can barely see whats happening in a lot of scenes

"Dillon, you son of a bith!"
"I ain't got time to bleed"
"If it bleeds, we can kill it"
"Get to the chopper!" (Get too da choppah!)
There's an insane amount of one liners from this movie that's stuck around as pop culture still today.
Don't forget "Stick around!"
Predator 2 gets deeper into the lore. She will love that.
Are you kidding? He gives away spoilers left and right, and then even spoils Terminator for her.
@Send A Raven oh no! That's not good at all. Sorry to hear that.
I like the Brooklyn Bridge / NYC skyline picture behind Holden... Long Island NY here, not too far from NYC.
this is a classic action movie from the 80's i grew up with.
Crazy. :P
But yeh, Predator is sooo good. :)
John McTiernan, not Michael.😎
@@Madbandit77 Thanks, you're definitely right. Corrected now. I think it was late when I left the comment lol.
Well here ya go. The chronology of the Alien / Predator Universe
1. Prey (2022) - Takes place in 1719
2. Predator (1987) - Takes place in 1987
3. Predator 2 (1990) - Takes place in 1997
4. Alien VS Predator (2004) - Takes place in 2004 (no longer considered canon)
5. Alien VS Predator: Requiem (2007) - Takes place immediately following AVP. (no longer considered canon)
6. The Predator (2018) - Takes place in 2018
7. Blade Runner (1982) - Takes place in 2019. (Ridley Scott, director of Alien and Blade Runner sees the films as intrinsically linked.)
8. Predators (2010) - Takes place about 2025, but can fit anywhere.
9. Soldier (1998) - Opens in 1996 then jumps to 2036. (Some of the wars the soldiers fight in are the same ones the replicant Roy Batty was a veteran of in Blade Runner.)
10. Blade Runner: 2049 (2017) - Takes place in 2049.
11. Prometheus (2012) - Opens "millions of years ago" then jumps to 2089.

16. Alien: Resurrection (1997) - Takes place in 2379
17. Firefly (2002 Series) - Takes place in 2517.
@@speider definitely. I would agree.
Highly acclaimed special effects artist Stan Winston, was brought in to re-design the predator costume. Under recommendation from his good friend Arnold Schwarzenegger, since they both had worked together previously on "The Terminator". The producers realized the original costume look was disappointing to say the least and also due to problems on set with the original creature suit (which was worn by Jean Claude Van Damme)
It is a well known effects industry story that Stan got inspiration for the predators iconic face/look from James Cameron.
One of the best action movies ever.
Been soooo looking forward to this.
To Jen,
An alien is just any being not from Earth. It doesn't have to look like anything similar to what we have on Earth (fish, animals, etc). They can be technologically advanced or they can even be non-sentient. Aliens don't even have to have a shape, body, or physical form. Just wanted to clarify since it came up a lot during alien week.
She doesn’t know what terminator is? 🤯🤯😱😱
I hope both of you are doing great.
watch prey its really good and Prometheus for the story
One of the best action movies ever made. Here are some interesting tidbits; 1) when Stan Winston was hired to create a new creature design he was flown in. On the flight he sat next to James Cameron who suggested to Winston it would be cool to have a monster with crab-like mandibles. 2) the new creature design caused a production delay of a few months. But unlike in the Amazon, this movie was shot in Mexico where the jungle does experience seasons and in the fall the leaves were turning brown and fell off the trees. Delaying production would have been too expensive so they flew in plants from the U.S. as set dressing in an actual jungle.
the first AVP i think is worth reacting to i would love seeing jen's reactions for that movie for me it was one of my favorites
They are not wasting ammunition, it is a military tactic for very specific situations, it is like sweeping an area to shoot someone or for the opponent to find out about the firepower. And they do not have unlimited supplies, in this scene you can see that they take turns, some shoot while others reload and vice versa.
Prey is freaking amazing, and if you only watch Predator, Predator 2, and Prey, you will have a very awesome trilogy.
Put some respect on Predators, man!
Prey is one of the best prequels!! I loved it
My favourite parts were ''Stick Around'' and ''Get Tu Da Choppah''
Still warms my heart how well the original Predator film still stands the test of time. It's a timeless science fiction/horror/action classic for a reason. You could release this film in theaters today, without any context or knowledge of the series, and it would still be popular. The sequels...well...the less we speak of them, the better.
Didn't expect Holden to be a TFS fan
Subbed!
My favourite fact about this movie, is that Sonny Landham (Billy) had a bodyguard on set. It wasn’t for his sake, it was for everyone else’s.
Fun fact - One of the Carl Weathers right hand trilogy.
He loses his right arm here, in Happy Gilmore, he plays a former golfer who lost his right arm to a Croc and in Toy Story of Terror, he was Combat Carl who has lost his right hand (to an iguana).
"Is that Bigfoot?"
Funny enough, the actor who played the Predator, Kevin Peter Hall actually played Bigfoot in Harry & The Hendersons. He was a 7ft tall actor who passed away in 1991 due to complications from AIDS.
Was not expecting a legolambs callout! Underrated channel!
Definitely should watch Prey next I think Jen would love it. And watch the Comanche dub for immersion
Richard Chavez, the guy who plays Poncho, served three tours in Vietnam. Apparently, a really nice, stand-up guy.

That was Writer / Director Shane Black as Hawkins.. (Glasses)
