I finally caught these when they were on sale, and have had them for a week now. First thing I want to say, is that the sample track is not just a watered down, flat EQ and it actually doesn't sound bad without the personalization. At all. Even the 'neutral' sample track sounds better than most headphones I have ever used. However, these are not the kind of headphones you want to use for 'professional' audio engineering, or for that sound. These aren't that kind of headphone.
The personalization does work, however. I tested it with my 3 family members. We all had vastly different settings, and none of us preferred each others over our own profile. In fact, we hated the sound profile of some of each others, and felt it sounded flat, or had a 'hiss' in the background. But to the person belonging to that profile, it sounded perfect.
I didn't get these for the personalization primarily. I got these for the bass. I am a basshead through and through, and I am used to audio registers where the bass drowns out the mid and highs just a bit. I was a little apprehensive that these actually had enough bass, because every time in the past when someone says headphones have a lot of bass, I have been disappointed. Until I got my sony MDR-XB950BT headset, which was my favorite...Until now. The Nuraphones blow those out of the water when it comes to the bass, and all without drowning out the mids and highs, like the Sony headset does. Turning the bass slider all the way up is nuts. I usually have it just a quarter away from being at 100% (front row), and that's enough for me with most genres. Even at that setting, the ear cups literally vibrate. I can feel my glasses on my face vibrating. The bass is phenomenal. So, as Lou said, if you're even remotely a basshead, you need these.
My only complaint is that the ear buds can start to hurt your ears after a while. Something I'll no doubt build a tolerance for. But if you're like me and you're not used to in ear headphones, it'll take some getting used to, which I'm already starting to do. Everything else about them is extremely comfortable. I even find them more comfortable than my Hyper X gaming headset, on my head and around my ears.
Overall, I'm not sure if they're worth 400$. That price might be a bit steep, even for the technology these headphones contain. If I didn't get them on sale, I wouldn't have them right now. But, found a black friday sale, and got them as a christmas gift to myself...One I am very happy with.
The bass is insane, and the sound, while not the best available, is still great. They are comfortable, the battery lasts around 30 hours, the personalization DOES work, and they are easy to use. The bluetooth works like a dream, and connects to all my devices very easily.

Nice review! Have you ever tried the Skullcandy Crushers? I currently have those but im looking for an upgrade, and I'd love to know how these actually represent the bass if you know what I mean. Do they just shake on your head or do you get that deep low freq "wearable subwoofer" feeling while listening to it. Are they comfy enough to be worn on like 12 hour flights? it just looks really weird lol
I would agree. I haven't had a chance to set them up with anyone else to see the listening profile variation, but I look forward to it.

@Gabriel CENA Hey, I've had the Crusher Wireless and returned them for the Sony XB950N1 (which STARPHASE named in his comment). I can tell you that the Sony ones are way better than the Crusher. If the Nura are better than the XB950, they should be like two (or more) steps above of the Crushers. Hope this helps!

I remember having this feature on an Sony Xperia Z3 . You could use any earbuds to make a custom sound signature. Pretty cool to implement it in the headphones with Bluetooth now, they also look really nice.
I pledged for this kickstarter like 2 years ago and received mine around a month ago and I just want to say that this is very accurate. My friend set up a profile too so we could compare and hers has a lot less bass and we both hate each other's profile and really like our own it's like witchcraft lol. But seriously when you crank the bass all the way up, your head literally shakes it's insane lol. Also the bass comes out from the cup while the treble comes from the in-ear part so you can still clearly hear the treble even though you're shaking from the bass....those are legit the best hearphones I could have hoped for :)

plus each cable is 20 dollars excluding the lightning cable which is 40. so unless everything you use comes with USB-A port (the cable it comes with) you'll be spending quite a bit more more than 400 dollars

Crushers are absolute garbage. They just vibrate instead of providing real bass. I've never bought and returned a product so fast.
I'm using a 1970's Pioneer SE-700 modified with Sony MDR-X10, and a late 60's, earliest 70's Pioneer SE-L40 modified with Sony WH-1000XM2.
Both sound beautiful. The first one is heavy on bass and very decent on mids and highs. The second one is just well balanced. Decent on the bass and very clear mids and highs, more proper for anyone and or for producers, studios, etc.

I have used both BOSE QUIET COMFORT and the Nuraphone. I love Nuraphones IMMERSION mode, on full ! But with the BOSE headphones volume full it’s sounds like the Nursaphone’s on low IMMERSION. Interesting innovation!

What I'm going to say is not meant to be an insult but Lew doesn't seem to understand sound quality in headphones. He just thinks the more bass = better. As far as I can tell, that bass will make everything else except for the low end unperceivable to the human ear (unless you're an alien like Lew)
You do realize no matter what happens when he puts the headphones up to the mic, you're not hearing exactly what Lew hears. Thats then going through your own headphones or speakers. Not to mention it's personalized, so it's not going to have over accentuated bass for everyone.
I have a pair of nuraphones and they are out of this world im telling you. Bass doesnt blend with the crisp mids and highs because of the separation of in ears and around ears. Its totally unique. The sound feels like it comes from inside your head kind of.

I agree these headphones have insane bass, one of the best bass head headphones out of all headphones maybe the best bass headphone, i know because i own a pair of nura phones and the bass will blow you away seriously...i only recommend them to bassheads but at 50% immersion is all you need if you don't want the bass to drown out the mids and highs.

I have the Sony xm3, skullcandy crusher wireless, the nuraphone and now a couple of days the audeze penrose X. Still the nuraphone have the best sound of Them all. The audio separation is from another world. The highs and the mids in ear and the bass over ear.

Worn mine for 3 weeks, these are by far the best quality headphones in qudio quality and in actual build that I have seen or heard. It's all sounding like a gimmick until you play some high quality tracks on APTXHD or through the classic Aux cord. But trust me, there are slight flaws in the software, like how you can't tap the side buttons when plugged in, and how you can't force it to not sleep when using the aux cord after a while of no sound. By and far these will last you years.
Got mine for 4 years if I recall correctly... Still goes as hard as at the beginning and battery lasts ages...

I did a little experimenting... I’m pretty hyped on these so I wanted to see if I could combine two hearing sources and sync the music together to get an idea of how the nuraphones sound.
I got my freedom f5s and my turtle beach xo one over ear headphones and tried to create a nuraphone experience if you will.. didn’t go so well. I couldn’t get the music to sync from my phone and computer together perfectly but I did get some idea of how the nuraphones work. I was hearing the mids and highs coming from the f5s (lowered the bass too) directly and got the surrounding bass from the xo ones... pretty cool
Maybe this is how they came up with the idea..? Idk but nonetheless I am definitely excited about these and I think they would be worth every penny if you’re serious about quality and they really do change the way you hear music and blow minds of course..!

sounds pretty futuristic, and while it tunes to your personal ear it's mostly just positioning the higher sounds deeper in your ear canal so lower/more bass can be used without drowning out other noises. Smart idea - a little exaggerated.

Nura does bass just as well, if not better. And they did it without clouding mids and high. Using them for action movies and FPS gaming with bass set to max is like wearing a rumble pack on your face.

I have been using a setup like this for a few years now. I have used some $70 non noise canceling Bose ear buds, with some Turtle Beach over the ear headphones. Use that setup for six years, and it was very nice. Now I use the $99 AKG earbuds that came with my Galaxy S9 note from last year, with some new Sony high base over the ear headphones. The quality I get by using both of them together is the best setup I have ever tried. It's not nice. It's fantastic. Well, for me it is.

The fact that it's subscription and easily replaced and you get every updated pair every year is fantastic.
Because I don't have the self disaplin to save £14 a month for 2 and a half years to then buy some headphones.
Plus headphones break, this sorts out that problem.
So it becomes completely dependable.
I will say what I think about them when they arrive.
I'm a producer and very critical about sound.
Will they be any good for mixing when learnt?
Big answer yet to come.
Because if it's adapted to your ears acoustics, once learned they could be good for mixing.

I trued these in Westfield these are amazing
I purchased the bose qc2 35 headphones 3d.....2 years ago.....great set.....
Wore out the padding.....
Traded for Sony xm1000......they sounded almost as good....but were not waterproof......
I then discovered the Bob Marley headphones 🎧......similar to the bose qc2 35.....only much more comfortable......so comfortable that I forget I'm wearing them. ......
I can put on some xtended music and...within 30 minutes I forget I'm wearing them......
