t would be worth pointing out in this tutorial the difference between an artificial light and the sun. If the shadow is cast by the sun then the light rays would be parallel due to the sun's great distance. If the light source is an artificial one e.g. a street lamp, then the light rays can be drawn from the light source. A simple explanation is that when you move sideways from an artificial light, the light stays fixed in its position whereas if you try and move sideways from the sun, then sun moves with you. Therefore the sun rays are parallel. It is a common error perpetuated in many perspective tutorials.
This is a great video, and very helpful! However, I'm not quite understanding is the angle of light and light direction on the cube. Does one determine the other? And how do you decide where both lines will meet?
Light direction and angle of light depends on light source ...... So we get and idea where the right could be so yes.... Direction of light is on the ground and we are assuming the angle of light buy imageing where the ray would fall ...
Whoa to the method of casting shadows you take, that is truly impressive. That is really smart thinking. Thumbs up, brilliant video! I need to have as "steady" or even almost as steady hand as yours but I might need to be sedated or something because I have a shakiness in my line making. Sometimes I can make a semi-alright line, but when it comes to making a curve say for an anime style eyelid or ellipse, then I just end up erasing more :D I subscribed to your channel. I have to learn as much as I can from artisans like you guys.
You decide, now if you want to get serious all depends on the location and the sun direction on a specific time of the year. I never do that. I just make a guess and decide what is best for the sketch
That is correct the video has no sounds, I did this video a long time ago and I didn’t know to much about edition, however I will produce new videos with clear explanations on this method, thank you for your comment
You just completely blew my mind. Years of drawing classes and I have never had shadows explained to me in this manner. Very helpful video.
"Everything in life is Math," and you've gone your way to confirm it, now it makes sense to me lol, thank you for sharing!

Normally when drawing shadows you use 45° angles, a set-square of that angle would help you understand better, or the drawing of a isosceles triangle.
