Wow this tutorial is insanely amazing, I have been drawing for over 10 years and was never taught how to work out the shadow lines like the way you teach in this video, I always struggled with shadows boundaries, this tutorial definitely helps me improve my shadows, I can't tell you how grateful I am watching this video, thank you so much 🙏

My Drawing Tutorial you obviously know your stuff you can reach it. If you want to know how well you know something try to teach it to another person. I just learned how to shadow objects in under 15min.
This is so genius like WHAT HAVE I BEEN DOING THIS WHOLE TIME GUESSING WHERE TF THE LIGHT HITS AND STUFF OMFG, CAN´T BELIEVE IT WAS THAT SIMPLE ALL ALONG! Thank you so muuuuuuuuch, Sir!
I want to cry, I’ve been struggling all day with trying to understand shadows and you go and give me the equation. I cannot express how great full I am!!!
Hey I have that mechanical pencil, best one I ever owned. Lately have been using traditional Blackwing pencils. Awesome tutorial, very clear and concise.
Nice tutorial. You seem to teach with ease, well done. I was just browsing different perspective drawing tutorial videos when i came upon your video. At some point soon i will attempt to draw and then paint (water color possibly) my mothers childhood home. The technique learned from this video is already becoming part of the drawings finished product. Thank you for your talent and time sharing it.
I tried using a pencil like that, for efficiency and less maintenence, but found it very hard to use. How can you use the side of those pencils to create shading? Does the led thickness make a difference?
Thank you very much, now what if the light source is filtered, or reflected by matter, objects, water? if there is 2 perspectives points, the rules stay the same because we are in 3 dimensions ? that's for another lesson I suppose. if you have any links please i'm interested
Is this correct, considering sun light is almost entirely parallel rays? This technique seems to treat the sun as a spotlight in the sky. I could be wrong of course, just curious.
James Hadley i'm just talking nonsense, our eyes are a kind of magnifiers, therefore, every difference of the distance between the eyes and every part of shadows will twist the picture we see, i mean, the farther the shadow is, the more it will shrink, and eventually twist the whole shape. it's just like when we see the railway, they are almost parallel, but why will it contract into a dot? i think both phenomenons are because of the same thing.
So I looked at your video and thought, "what if I want the shadow to fall behind the object?" Essentially, instead of having it far in the distance, I wanted it in front of the object. That means using the same light source, but altering the shadow vanishing point. I realized putting it below the object makes shadows go behind the object instead of in front. My main question is derived from trying to take this idea to a sphere. I found the cast shadow no problem. I just did the above process for a few key points on the circle and connected the dots for an ellipse. My problem is figuring out where to put the highlight of the sphere. It's obviously some relationship between the light source and the sphere, I just can't figure it out. Any help would be much appreciated!
shane hoosier Yeah, when it gets to organic shapes, things get a bit more tricky. I can't say I'm an expert at that particular subject yet. I will do more research into that subject when I re-do my perspective course.
Thank you so much for this video! You just explained what my graphic design professors at the Art Institute couldn't give, and it was the one thing I've been trying to figure out for years.

This video was a great help for me in my architecture exam thanks a lot 😄😄😄😄
What if the shadow is on people and there are no sharp edges or corners. What points do you use, head and shoulders?
shane hoosier Yeah, when it gets to organic shapes, things get a bit more tricky. I can't say I'm an expert at that particular subject yet. I will do more research into that subject when I re-do my perspective course.
As clear as a bell, thank you so much!
Great video.
Thanks 🙋♂️🙋♂️
These things help in architectural drawing...thanx
Amazing!!!
Is the light source infinitely far away, like the sun, where the rays are parallel, or is it close to the object like a light bulb?
good perspective and drawing.
