0:31 in my headcanon, Thomas is a built as a prototype of the E2s with the extended side tanks, but he is built as a smaller prototype and with the error of the rear buffer beam not being lowered to match the front's height (the latter of which isn't noticed until it's too late). The results prove satisfactory, but it is because of the buffer difference Thomas is left as a pilot engine for safety until he gets sent to Sodor.
You know I have the same head canon as well
I thought Timothy was the prototype E2
@@Tugsboi47 Timothy is not cannon.
@@JosephRailwayStudios2000 oh ya!
@@JosephRailwayStudios2000 even if he was, good luck explaining how they messed up the rear buffer beam twice XD
In my headcanon, Thomas has a friend from the mainland, who is a J50 tank engine named Tommy. Thomas & Tommy came to Sodor due to World War 1 efforts and became the station pilots the Sodor railway. Thomas then gets modified to be smaller to handle shunting jobs better, but then gets reverted back to being longer for his new branch line.
I think this series really helped me get into modelmaking. So much fine detail and care is put into these trains, I love them.
I like another discrepancy I noticed between the real E2s and Thomas is that Thomas has those big splashers under his side tank extensions, while real E2s did not. I wonder why they were added? Anyway, I love watching the process of you making the models. You're steady hands and attention to detail are second to none. Seriously amazing work.
my only guess is that they were added after he had his wheels swapped out with slightly larger ones
couldve been done as a fix for the E2s instability issues when travelling at speed
@Feegee tuvshinbayr *jinty
Maybe its because they tried to obscure his orgins and or was a batch of 4 engines that looked like e2 tank engines but has the parts of a jinty and was a part of the knatford elsbridge light railway and molly was the 6th engine and edward was the 5 and thomas was number one and the engines ill give random names are peter number 2 jeremy number 3 and topham number 4 jaiden *this is partaly porterverse*
I think that’s because either Awdry, the publishers, or whatever wanted Thomas to look just a bit more unique then an E2.
@gan-erdenetuvshinbayar2947 The Jinty's have Belpaire fireboxes, and Thomas doesn't. The Jinty's also a have different cab design, and the front windows are different.
I really love how you don’t just switch the fronts of the Bachmann Thomas and Friends engines. You actually do the work and it’s amazing.
0:00 - 2:03 this has been the basis of my Thomas plans for a long time, long enough to make my own separate headcanons for a J50 and an experimental Jinty with extended tanks. Those thoughts never left my mind.
Just a fun fact, the E2s and jintys were actually the same size. Another note, I don’t like Thomas being a straight up E2 either. I always thought he was too big and long
I personally like Thomas as an E2, but I totally understand where you're coming from here, and your Thomas is DAMN good 👍
In my headcanon, I have always had in my mind have Thomas as LMS Jinty which even if you ignore the fact the jinty's were better than the E2's, then storywise makes more sense.
Given Sodor's position next to LMS territory, it would make sense that Thomas wouldn't have far to travel to get to Sodor compared to how an E2 would travel all the way up from the south coast. Also, the relationship between Thomas and Gordon takes on a different edge in which the teasing that Thomas does on Gordon is down to the LMS/LNER rivalry which makes some good reason for why Thomas would go after Gordon in the first place. Speaking of which, as a Jinty instead of an E2, he and Gordon would be about the same age instead of Thomas being older than Gordon which honestly I'm not a fan of. So yeah, wrote more than I meant too but yeah, Thomas as a Jinty is actually makes so much sense compared to him being an E2.
This is actually a good head canon not gonna lie the Lms and Lner rivalry is a good factor as well
My favourite series ever! Ever since the channel was terminated I was very upset that the Tug’s trains were gone! Thanks for the reupload!
This looks accurate to the RWS! Fabulous work.
I love this series, it’s helped me learn a lot about modeling plus is just so fun and satisfying to see your models come together and has inspired me to make my own models. So glad it got a comeback recently and can’t wait to see more of what you’ve got in store!!! :)
The 2nd model of Thomas you made and showed does indeed look quite stunning on a Bachmann Thomas model engine chassis on my opinion. The other 1 used for the final version was quite impressive too.
I do like the E2s from an aesthetic point of view. They seem to have been a little less than adequate irl, but they looked fantastic.
I couldn't but imagine both of your Thomas model engines with his CGI style face.
Simply because they definitely fit the personality of Thomas.
This model for Thomas is fantastic of yours
I can't wait to see the prop accurate models.
0:20 its Gina, Rosie, thomas, and salty!
Yeah
Ive watched this video so many times i love it
The model is so satisfying and pretty
YEEEES, its back! Your modeling videos, Especially this one, are inspirations for me, I modified my thomas recently and BOY was it worth it.
4:46 I personally think the Hornby chassis for the E2 Thomas model seems to fit perfectly well for the most part.
Feeling bad for you about your channel and that, but it’s good that you (Correct me if I’m wrong) can just re-upload your videos instead of having to remake your videos.
also I’ve gotta say it. First!
Thanks for reviving these videos for us.
At first, seeing a Thomas without his face was very strange, but after a few videos of yours explaining a few things, I definitely agree, this is the perfect Thomas.
I honestly really like the Jinty Thomas photo shop. It looks like how I picture Thomas in my headcanon. Gonna have to keep this image in mind if I ever make a Jinty Thomas model.
Ah yes, I’m glad this channel is back!
This exact model of Thomas is my OC for how I portray him. Couldn’t be any more accurate!
I’m so glad you’re back nic 😊
0:19 I’don’t know if you’ve noticed but the E2’s are F*****G HUGE
And Thomas is not.
I love this series, it inspired me to create my own custom models, expect for me to make a video on a custom polar express!
I agree with what you say about Thomas and the E2’s. Besides the E2’s were more useless than useful, and that Thomas should have been a Furness Railway G5 or GNR/LNER J23/50
I literally love this model I even made a small version of your model exept it has a flat running board. The model you make is so accurate and is one of my fav models you made along with Edward, duck and Oliver
FINALLY A REUPLOAD OF THIS BANGER
Let’s be honest, Tug’s trains is the best series Tug has made by far
Tug's Trains is finally back!
I’m glad tugs trains is coming back on this channel ever since Il the first one was terminated
I know why Dapol's quality control is bad, they're based in Wrexham so, they must've done the work whilst watching home games

question who’s gavin and what did he do?

Welcome back Unlucky Tug!
I have a headcanon that Thomas is an accidental E2 and J50 hybrid
When the builders were making Thomas they originally were going to create a J50 tank engine
but while the first half of Thomas's base was a J50 the workers accidentally got the blueprints mixed up and finished Thomas using the blueprints of an E2 giving him the elements of an E2
They couldn't fix the mistake (both because it would take awhile and consider it would be the first world war at the time) they had to finish him as is and legally they would classified Thomas as an E2 tank engine
How tf did LNER/GNR got an E2 blueprint?
@@M-60127 if i had to consider maybe some workers who had blueprints of engines to build managed to snag a blueprint of a E2 Tank Engine from brighton and brought to the area where they built Thomas
The big Chad of the Thomas fandom
I was watching this video the day the old channel went down
Welcome back man
I liked it since you uploaded the original video on my birthday.
I would like to think that Thomas is an experimental prototype of the E2, just like how Gordon is a prototype. The concept was to make a miniature version of the E2 to make it cheaper to make, and more efficient… didn’t really work out that way though.
I love the fact that you are able to use real coal for your models.
This video has inspired me
This is still the best Thomas ever.
That a perfect good Thomas. Really love the story
Hey tug, thank you for posting the videos.
"It's made by Dapol, who's quality control is ABISMAL, for OO scale" well THAT aged well (lol).
What happened with Dapol?
@@TidmouthSheds Dapol basically makes trash models
Unpopular opinion. I always thought he resembled the E1X (which isn't a million miles removed from what you finished up with there) more than anything. This also fits with the late Rev's penchent for making his characters one offs, rebuilds and prototypes.
Knuckles helping unlucky tug making a thomas model is something imwould never see.. amazing model.
I had a AU idea, maybe why Thomas is that size is maybe in 1915, the LBSCR tried to fix the e2 length problem and tried to make it shorter and more stumpy to get around sharp corners. But great vid tho and I love the look of both models
10:33 if only Thomas had the red lining on his bunker. But nevertheless the model itself is very well done.
When he adds that it would be rws,tvs and some parts of the cgi accurate
@@PopCorn-pv8qq yeah and I for 1 think Thomas himself looks very stylish with the red lining on his bunker.
On the topic of his back lining, he regained it in the great thomas movie, the adventure begins as far as I know
@@PopCorn-pv8qq yeah I do remember that and also some of the other engines did have square lining painted on their back ends in most of the early RWS books.
Ok
HE’S BACK!!!!!!!
I am absolutely IN LOVE with the baby E2!
I'm thinking on getting my own! :D
A yes the first video i watched from you
I feel like Thomas could have originally been an E2, but after his ‘comes to breakfast’, or another really bad crash incident, he was too damaged to be sat on his original chassis, so was cut down and heavily modified to fit on a shorter chassis (perhaps an unused spare Terrier chassis after cutting the body off for scrap or something), akin to how Henry was modified from a boofed A0/A1 into a Stanier Black-5
Hey tugs, I would like to thank you for your designing and painting, I used this video to make my model via painting and I just find it awesome, thank you.
Excellent work Nick, and I can’t believe you use real coal. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️🚂🚂🚂and I love that Thomas cab light up.
im glad this is back
I was just rewatching Thomas and the Great Railway Show and Thomas *is* illustrated nearly as tall as Green Arrow, who is about as tall as the A1s/3s, so I can see him being pretty much exactly that height difference, which was about the same as he was drawn as in that book.
My Headcannon for Thomas is that he was originally a SDJR fowler 3F that was painted blue and given no. 21, then he was sold to the LBSC and Modded into an E1X in 1912, then sold to the NWR in 1913 as an E2 but really was an E1X. After his breakfast crash was rebuilt back into a Fowler 3F but retaining the original E1X features with some elements of the later E2.
UNLUCKY TUG!!! I'M YOUR 2ND HUGE FAN!!!
Yes. It's has returned!
Thanks for the video tug i even made my own Thomas
yeah i've had a problem with one of my dapol locomotives the GWR Mogul. It's side rods went out of line causing it to wobble & constantly derail. luckily i was able to return it & get a replacement which runs fine but still a hassle.
7:30 what happened with Gavin?
I like Thomas as an E2, I just find it hilarious that he's technically older than Gordon, it's just so funny to think about
It's a crime that Gavin called Thomas "Tombo"
😆
Eyyy! A Doctor Who fan!

Thomas’s rebuilt basics in the railway series is shared to Russia ь’ s classes but they are with outside valve gear
Whats that symbol on top of the smoke box? I also saw similar symbols on Caledonian 419 in videos and always wondered what they meant
Twentieth time watching this and I'm still amazed by it.
5:53 One time dreamt I adopted a little Thomas the Tank Engine who'd been abandoned under a bush in the rain.
I took him home, he ate little coal bits out of my hand and I set up a toy railway that ran around my house.
Sounds like a wholesome dream tbh
Tugs Trains is BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do not know how to do Thomas in my headcanon.
Either he’s a GER J23/LNER J50, and it’s explained that the artist cocked it up and the wrong design became too iconic to fix, he’s a LB&SCR E2 and the illustrations shrank him, he’s actually a smaller variant of the E2 that never entered full production, or he was a regular E2 until he was cut down to a smaller size for some reason.(Maybe he had an accident and they didn’t have the parts necessary to restore him to normal size, or maybe they thought shortening and lowering him would help with his design’s many, many issues.)
In my Headcanon for Thomas he is the prototype for the series 3 E2s built in the 1920s with a smaller length and extra cab window but the mistake was his footplate was sloped on 1 side and the other was flat not long after the series 3 e2s were cancelled and Thomas was sold of to the north western railway
Yes!!!!!! Tug's Trains are back!!!!!! Tug's Trains is my favorite series on the The Unlucky Tug channel!
My theory is that Thomas was initially built in 1915 as a prototype for the E2's with extended side tanks, though someone at Brighton Works accidentally got his measurements wrong. This meant that he came out much smaller and stumpier in comparison to his siblings (e.g., he ended up having a much shorter wheel base). Initially, 2-3 of his older siblings, would make fun of him for this, making him upset. However, this would change when Thomas discovers that being smaller and stumpier than his older siblings meant that he had a much easier time negotiating tight corners, enabling him to get one over on them, his eldest and (potentially) third siblings, along with Stepney's younger brother, Boxhill, try to keep the others in check. Unfortunately, Thomas never gets to meet his younger siblings or really know most of his family all that well, due to a war-time mix-up resulting in him being sent to Sodor and making his retrieval difficult when the error is finally realised.
After travelling for (say) a few days, Thomas reaches Barrow- in- Furness, where he meets Edward. Upon finding out that they are both being sent to Sodor and realising how young Thomas is (approx. 3 months old), Edward decides to become Thomas' mentor, picking up where the likes of Boxhill left off. During his early years on Sodor, Sir Topham Hatt I notices that, despite not having too much trouble when negotiating tight corners, Thomas still has some mechanical issues (e.g., having an inefficient boiler). That said, with a fair number of loaned locomotives to assist with the North Western Railway's construction and Thomas primarily being station pilot, these aren't too bad. This, however, changes in 1920, when a goods train breaks away or a particularly troublesome loaned engine decides to bump Thomas while the rails are slippery, causing him to crash into a wall, a signal or the turntable well bunker- first, bably damaging his rear end. Consequently, Thomas is taken to Crovan's Gate Works for his first rebuild, and the rest is history.
Who is Gavin? What did he say for Tug to blacklist him like that?
Don’t think I’m blind, but what happened to Gavin? One however you spell his name
I love this one
Kids: Me need curve running board!
Audrey: NO! No curve running board for you! Only FLAT running board!

I WANT THE CURVED RUNNING BOARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What model trains do you use? Hornby or Bachmann? I enjoy a good hobby and wanna hear your opinions.
Still the best model I've seen
my head canon for Thomas is that he is a 0-6-0 p class with extended sidetanks. Thomas is a small engine but not smaller than than Percy. I'm not saying that your headcanon is bad but I understand that he could be a jinty.
I love the idea of making Thomas model
Personally, I like to believe the reason Thomas is so small for an E2 is because A): the Brighton Works employees made a mistake while building him and made him much smaller than the average E2. B): There might've been a tiny shortage of iron material for when they were gonna build him, so they made do with what they had and added splashers because....why not? 🤷
But if Thomas WAS accurately sized, he'd knock Gordon down a couple pegs.
JUST USR THE CLASS 323 ITS EXACTLY RIGHT - the dip in the front and the side tanks
Ps: why is the running bord warped?
Question regarding an E2:
…does “E2”… mean anything?
Like, is there any substantial difference between an E2 and, say, an E1?
Train classes have always confused me…
