Cypriot or to be precise Greek-Cypriot is not a language, it is a regional dialect of the Greek language, sure there are a lot of foreign loans and differences in pronounciation and a lot of its elements especially when it comes to verb conjugation are based on the Ancient Greek grammar, but its not a language of its own its just not the standard Greek you will hear on the news.

Usually an American citizen, without a criminal record, can visit Cyprus as a tourist and will be made welcome. Migration is not so easy. For sure you will need a suitable visa and a residence permit. These are hard to obtain. If your a millionaire or a qualified brain surgeon you have a chance. otherwise it will not be easy. Remember you will be fighting EU beaurocracy.

As a Uk national who lives in Cyprus be aware of the rampant corruption here. Police will resist any form of action on Greek Cypriots . Just observe the numbers of drivers who block pavements with their vehicles! Usage of mobiles while driving is another problem! Watch the police cruise by most incidents, without a care!
Driving standards are poor to say the least, but I do not completely agree with you. The police has been lenient with my family on several occasions just because we are foreigners and assume we are tourists. Cypriot drivers on the other hand get tickets all the time. I am talking about the Nicosia area, not sure about other cities tbh.
