The ending is great and then we get cringeworthy narration at the end. Could've just had Jack-52 walking through the clearing smiling with the music playing. Kinda like another movie that was made a couple of years after this one.
""To every man upon this earth Death cometh soon or late. And how can man die better Than facing fearful odds, For the ashes of his fathers, And the temples of his Gods""
Add the first two lines of that small stanza: "Then out spake brave Horatius, the Captain of the Gate.." and you've got one incredible statement from this lengthy lay. :)
Even that little detail I've wondered exactly what The Tet was doing. Was that little "pulse" doing what you said or was it accessing the data of when it destroyed Rome? That's cool that you thought of that as well because I imagine it was doing a number of things.
"How can a man die better. Than facing fearful odds, For the ashes of his fathers, And the temples of his gods." Yeah if i ever have to give my life up for something…these will be my last words. Right before "Fuck you Sally".
Ultimate gratification to him after seeing what the Tet had done to so many human beings. I would have done the same exact thing and probably yelled "Adios motherfucker!" as well.
+Igor Antovski I agree with you. I didn't actually see it until it was on HBO I believe. I really loved it though and this is my favorite scene, who wouldn't want to go out this way? Defiant to the end and making the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the existence of all the human race that's left.
After 4 years I only got around to watching this film. I really liked it. I can't understand how it didn't get better received. I love the rousing speech at the the end. The thing is to die well!
I didn't find the movie that great but it has such a satisfying climax. I loved the part where Sally claims it's his God and Bleech is all like "yeah now is the time to blow the mthrfkr down". 😂
I like how Morgan Freeman's characer was like "this is too important to mess up, but I'm still going to give the decision to blow Sally up to the human that Sally engineered, to show that humanity trumps all".
Until a New Tet arrives to finish the job?. Oh Gosh what a great concept for a sequel, what about the ending being different that time, the remaining humans and him form an alliance or convince the Tet to move on while they serve them as the Borg?.
I dount a new Tet would arrive, even if they where mass-produced. They seek planets to convert natural Resources to energy. Earth is almost depleted. It wouldn't be Worth it.
Well, the whole notion of the aliens stealing our water is just too bloody dumb. Hydrogen is everywhere in the universe, and oxygen is widely available, in MUCH greater quantities, on any gas giant planet you can shake a stick at.
geonerd... The Hydrorigs uses fusion energy. It converts water into fuel, essentially splits it on a molecular level. Energy is generated from this process, partly. To use hydrogen gas wouldn't work, need liquid form. Water works, planets with much water works best since the Tet can remain for a long while. Then it's that gas giants have no solid ground, enormous pressures, radiation, deadly storms.
H5 There are literally billions of giant spherical masses much larger than Earth... That are almost nothing but liquid water. The amount of H2O on Earth is an insignificant little drip compared to what is out there. So yes, it is irrational for them to even contemplate coming to Earth to farm our Waters.
Yes, a Movie detailing a clone army of Tom Cruises running around and killing. If there ever is Another installment it should be a sequel. Maybe 100 years from this Movie and we actually colonized Titan and other planets in nearby solar systems and a new Tet arrive.
Made me tear up thinking that that thing has probably harvested the worlds of many civilisations before Earth. Seeing it die felt really good. Great film!
I know, cross Wall-E with a 501 Clone Trooper and you get him. There is a point that I wish the film could have considered, if the Tet Became Aware that he had regained his Humanity why not negotiate a deal with him and the remaining humans finding a new home for them if Earth was no longer a viable option. They could have had a sequel where Humanity starts over in earth or somewhere else as the Tet uses human Clones and he humans to conquer or settle another planet very much like the Borg in Star Trek.
Tet negotiate? They were conquerors. Negotiation would be a waste of time and energy and resources from their point of view. They were there to gut the earth. Empathy for the species already there is unnecessary. We were a pest that killing or exterminated.
A subtle moment in this scene is when Freeman's character, hearing Sally tell Jack it is his god, gave the detonator to him, as if to say, "answer her with this" ...despite that fact that Freeman's character has been fighting an insurgency against the Tet for decades and has the key to victory in his hand. Recognizing this, and instead of taking the detonator away, Jack takes his hand and they do it together, sacrificing themselves - Jack for his lady, and Freeman's character for all mankind. It was a lovely ending.
This film brings together all kinds of main subjects of the human being.: What are we being deceived of? of well-established beliefs that may just be big lies. What are The purpose of life? slaves of some kind of religious system? Who is god if there really is ? That it is worth "dying well" for a purpose greater than our own life, that we must question everything. That we should risk everything. The love is the key to everything.
Apparently, I made a HUGE mistake not watching this underrated masterpiece sooner or even when it came out. I’m a sci-fi fan myself and to be honest I’ve never watched this movie because when it came out, the trailers weren’t that interesting and there wasn’t really any hype for this movie at all. Therefore, I wasn’t interested in this movie. However, I saw this on Netflix recently and basically said the hell with it and watched it. This is a really great movie and has one of the best endings when it comes to sci-fi movies. I’m so mad this movie didn’t have any hype causing this movie to be so very unnecessarily underrated.
If you have seen this clip here first and have yet to see the film be assured that this is not the actual final ! The film will tell you how Jack got here though and that in itself is brilliant enough !

Not only that, but Jack was tasked with bringing the survivor, and thus he had to take someone with him to trick the Tet into letting him in, but he took the place of Julia because as the others stated he was mortally wounded.
Because he said he wanted to see the look on that sob's face when this thing(bomb) goes off. That's why its such a great plot twist when he pops out of the pod smiling and Sally says, " thats not the life form you promised me". Lol. TETs the thing that Morgan freemans character watched destroy the earth from the beginning of TETs arrival. Wouldn't you want the chance to personally deliver the death blow to the alien conqueror sucking your planet dry and that probably also killed your whole family? Probably the only thing he had left to live for was the hope of earth and humanities' survival and revenge. Someone had to go with Tom anyways, because TET was too smart to let him go up there alone. TET could sense the vitals of another lifeform onboard and TET knew it was not the recognizable vitals of another clone of Tom or his clone teammate, but TET did not count on them pulling the old switcheroo. Lol.
Humans are capable of giving up their lives for the sake of the thing they love. The AI doesn’t understand that concept, that’s why she was so chill about letting Jack in. She didn’t think him capable of self sacrifice.

This was such an epic ending scene. The music, the voice of Sally, the scenery and the emotions! Wonderful film and ending IMO
I rewatched the scene like 10 times after I first watched the movie. The whole movie isn't overly amazing but this ending is.
I cried at the end, really well execute ending.
The ending is great and then we get cringeworthy narration at the end. Could've just had Jack-52 walking through the clearing smiling with the music playing.
Kinda like another movie that was made a couple of years after this one.
