Monday morning the DOT will be surprised when their 8 person crew arrives to open up this culvert. Thank you Post and Ghost - this is some of your best content to date.
I'd love to hear their call bitching at the crew that "flagged" that culvert as needing cleaning :D :D

I came for the giant whirlpool and stayed for the discussion of fart smells. Great content, Post. You just avoided a potential frost heave with that road.
Did you make it to the real fart?? Lol
You can tell it's a real fart by the way it is.

He was even able to rip a fart right in the middle of fart discussion. A true renaissance man.
I had a little chuckle at his comments. Anyone who has drained something with stagnant water will know that smell.
I love how much he loves doing this. It's actually really fun to watch, legit.
One of his videos were recommended to me one day and I have been hooked ever since. That was almost 6 months ago ☺️

A tip from someone raised in a rural area with numerous family-owned lakes:
That frozen surface covering the entire body of water does slow down the draining. Even when the drain's not clogged, heavy precipitation on top of a frozen surface can cause area flooding. If you can find a way to break open 2 or 3 large holes in the surface, about 20 feet or so from the drain, that will usually make a huge difference in the flow rate. Like in the case of this video: if he could have tossed a few of the heavier stones out far enough and managed to break the surface in multiple places, that might have made a huge difference.
The Bernouli Effect ? 🌪
@@bananabob2185 probably vacuum pressure.
Ja I was thinking like an unbalance in pressure so it will try to suck water out but because air is struggling to get in through another spot, the water will be significantly slower down. Sort of like emptying a coke bottle by turning it completely upside down. Then air and water which will move in opposite directions must use the same space. You make an air hole somewhere else then you get a good flow and movement of both air and water.
That does make sense!
Basically air columns pushing the water down. When ice is on top of it there's not much to "replace" the lost space so

“I knew I could do it”, I’m glad you believe in yourself, I always believe in you too post ❤️
This is a perfect example of why we are in so much trouble in this country. We have 8 man road crews with excavators come out to unblock a culvert that could be opened up with one guy and a rake. Perfect irony. Also, “this area smells like a giant fart” was the best line I’ve ever heard on RUclips. 😆
I think that trouble you speak of goes way deeper than this overflow, if you catch my flow.
True story. If it takes a crew to do the work of one man then there are bigger issues than THIS blockage. It says more about them and typical government inaction than it does about POST doing what he does.
If someone every complained about him getting things done and wanted to prohibit him from doing it, I think a recall petition would be in order.
And the 8 would half ass the job, at best. This man knows what he’s doing and gives a 💩about doing it RIGHT.
In some parts of the country they don't even fund the DOT at all. The northeast has it easy. The south is where you really suffer.
Great stuff man. I completely understand the feeling of worrying that someone will stop, thinking you're doing something bad. I like to film dust devil's out in the fields of Northwest Indiana in the late spring and often park just off the side of the road with my camera and tripod. I'm sure it looks kind of sketchy, but the farmers are always entertained when I tell them what I'm doing and tell me "good luck", and are on their way. Keep up the good work bro.
Edit: Also, I think you would like to know that myself and several other of my friends who are also whip makers frequently discuss how your videos are perfect to put on while we are working on custom orders in our shops. Whip making can drag on for a long time, and your videos are great to listen to and glance up at from time to time while we work. We're big fans!

Something that would have been cool, is to use tape, or lightly mark the marker pole with the level of water level to start with. Would have been interesting to see the level difference
we did something similar when we were kids , spent hours in the local streams , we were
outside when ever home from school , we learnt all sorts , how to be safe around water ,
how to hide when bigger kids came looking . We would get home wet but thinking it was
normal , a great childhood .
Lovely whirlpool!
Also from what I gathered about the smell, it probably had to do with anaerobic bacteria breaking down the dead material under all that ice. If there was more oxygen for the aerobic bacteria to eat, they could break the material down with very little smell; but since the swamp was stagnant and frozen over anaerobic breakdown occurred instead.
Microbiology FTW. I have medical microbiology training but I know pretty much nothing about soil/environmental micro. definitely something i'd read up on in spare time
@@rainstorm_jo Oddly enough, I received this information from gardening and methods to composting. To break down matter you need to flip and turn it, to allow more air in there; not only will it break things down quickly, it'll get alarmingly hot, (like hot steam levels) which apparently anaerobic bacteria dislike/ can't grow well in.
Without air, the anaerobic bacteria thrive. It'll still break things down, but it'll be much slower and smellier.

After that it was draining really fast.
Oh i saw that long string of debris coming out of the otherside just as the rush of water came flowing out. I had to laugh. "Poor beavers" had worked so hard to stop the flow

Next time you have something like that green post in the water next to the culvert, you should tie an orange, hi vis ribbon at the water level you start at. That way we could really see the water level drop and track the progress, even time it.
Watching the clog exit the culvert at the start of the surge was so cool. Also proves what you have said many times is right. Water logged debris sinks immediately and doesn't float down stream to the next culvert. You are right too about how great it sounds when the ice cracks when the water is drained and nothing is supporting the ice. Great video.

They turn in different directions, because the flow at the edges goes in the same direction.
@@skilllessbeast7416 They have to get really, really big before the Coriolis force becomes strong enough to force their direction. Storm systems, yes. Whirlpools, not so much.

I walked around our neighborhood with a rake every year to clear the grates to clear up the flood streets. It was oddly satisfying, my neighbors loved it and the city workers appreciate the help.
