After about 6,000 mile break in my gas mileage significantly improved, with my 2020 RAM 1500 5.7L eTorque is getting 16.6 mpg suburban commuting (no highway), which is better than my F-150 ecoboost V6. Plus, the V8 sound, seamless shifting, grunty predictable power, and no on/off boost is much better with the RAM. Cool feature is how the eTorque matches engine speed for seamless shifting and regenerates energy from upshifting as well as from braking. It also charges the 12 battery without parasitic power lost from a belt driven alternator. Coasting feels like zero friction. Stop start is also seamless and probably the best in the internal combustion trucks. No issues at all with my Laramie. I avoided the overly gizmo upper trim models and made sure not to get a sunroof. Update: This Spring I was getting an even better 17.2 mpg (suburban driving, no highway), but with hot Summer AC blasting it drops down to 16.3. I have several low mileage vehicles and have to trickle charge them, but I don't have to with the RAM 1500 because the 48V lithium battery system automatically trickle charges the 12V battery. Both RAM battery systems have been zero maintenance so far.
This is going to be nothing but trouble as the truck ages. Unless you can deactivate the entire system once it breaks down when it is out-of-warranty- I would like to know how much to fix it and how long the batteries are good for. In addition lithium ion batteries are known to self ignite, it might not happen a lot but I would not want one in my garage.
The real problem is the belt that runs the water pump... it's like an afterthought and is the weakest link in all of this. Wife's truck just tossed it off and it damaged the larger belt on the way past it. Happened as she got on it to pass someone (higher RPMs), and there isn't anything keeping the tension on the little belt that I can see, so it must be like a "rubber band," but as it ages it gets looser and there isn't anything you can do to keep it tight other than replace it? How do you replace it if there isn't anything to adjust the tension? Not happy at all about this.
Buyer be ware! at about 10K the little belt running the water pump will fail and take out the larger serpentine belt. Wife was stranded 50 miles from home. I would wait a few years as this is likely going to be a huge issue. There isn't any way to adjust the tension on the little belt that runs from the crank shaft to the water pump, so as it wares it gets loose and there isn't anything you can do about it.
Mine just Crapped out at 20k ‘ the BCM battery control Module of the The Etourqe unit has failed. You can see it Charging battery upon start up for a few Seconds then its starts discharging. I actually love the Etourqe system as this system restarts Engine after Stops n Starts instead of using engine starter . Just wish this issue didn’t hit a 20k miles. Kind of Disappointed. It is Covered under warranty but a Replacement hasn’t surfaced and its been over 10 Days now. 😏
Not really. Every time you get into the truck and start it you can deactivate the auto start/stop, but it really doesn't quit using the 90 hp motor that was the alternator as it uses it also for slight power increases while driving as a 4 cylinder (MDS). Also, apparently the little belt that runs the water pump is a weak link in the system as my wife's tuck just tossed it off.
Unnecessary... I turn mine off and it turns off in tow mode... 8.9 mpg towing... 12 mpg city.... I own a 2019 limited... awesome interior... just a chugger
Not much of a dog in this fight but I’m curious too. Dad just bought one after debating whether to stick with chev or go ford/ram. He went 2023 5.7 etorque ram laramie
@leedanielson7452 rear end gear 100% has affect on mpg. That's tge dumbest thing I've heard cause if it didn't why even make 3 options and why not even go into the 4's if makes no difference? I had 2015 Hemi 3.92 gears and now 2023 3.21 with etorque and get way better fuel mileage especially over 70km/hr

Can you shut this etorque off permanently?
Good question

You were dumb not to get unless it was upcharge then. Now is no extra charge and fine tuned. Wouldn't go back to regular hemi after I got this Etorque

This is horrible on mpg I have a 2021 1500 v8 etorque I see 11.7 mpg . Don’t be fooled
Depends on gear rations you probably have 3.93 gears not the 3.21 . Tge 3.21 is far better on gas
@@krisi.2011 I have owned many Rams and the E torque and the rearend gearing Both have very insignificant influences on mpg….
@Lee Danielson good to hear thanks informing me on that . I was wondering and hear so many different stories .
