I have a 2022 Ram with this exact problem with the etorque stalling took it to the dealership they could not duplicate the problem. Had them look up this video and read the comments before they believed there was a problem. Lucky for me This falls under the Oregon lemon law. People be careful it will apply the e-brake when it stalls. Did that to me crossing the highway through a busy intersection.
I have a '22 Pentastar that had this problem and I was able to figure out how to get it to stall out when hot. It was always from a complete stop or a rolling stop, and then it threw itself into park and automatically applied the e-brake. It would start back up and go with no problem. Disabling the start/stop didn't help. The dealership fixed it with two TSBs: flashed the PCM and flashed the HCP. Been running great since the update. The problem was bad eTorque software. There was nothing wrong with the batteries or generator.
The ever shortening “design cycles” in the automotive industry is really effecting quality. And the designs are WAY more complicated than our dads truck. After 30 plus years as a design engineer in automotive, I gave up and moved over to other industries. Too much stress, and never enough time. Why is there always enough time to redo stuff…but never enough time to do it right the first time? 😅
Clearly this is still a problem. My 2022 stalled while driving down the highway. It was pretty scary to think my wife could have been driving when it shut down - no power brakes or power steering.
When I realized that my Gladiator was not up to task pulling our 5,500lb travel trailer, and wasn't very comfortable on long drives, I specifically searched out a used non etorq 1500 with the 3.92 gears. It's a 2021 Big Horn and had 11,300 miles at time of purchase. It's been a year and it's been a great truck.
I bought a 2022 ram 1500 warlock and it doesn't have the e-torque system. that's why I bought it. A couple 2weeks ago I was rear ended in my 2019 ram Laramie ( no e-torque). The impact drove my box into the back of the cab, so I wondering would that have caused damage to the 48v battery (if it had e-torque) and would it catch on fire like the Tesla's? I wouldn't put me or my family in harms way just so Ram could make more money! I am getting better mileage than with the e-torque so what's the purpose?
Literally had a 2022 brand new etorque. 2 months later had its first stall. 2 weeks later stalled driving into Lowes lol. Took it to dodge, service tech claims they have limited knowledge of hybrid system. Likely gonna be a recall. Smh
Same here. brand new 2023 ram rebel, less than 800 miles, in the shop at the dealer for the same issue. It was not fixed in the recall for the 2021's because clearly mine has it. Not only that but a code for combustion chamber producing insufficient torque and sputters on cold starts. Should have stayed with Toyota.
@@markp.8459 Got me too! taking it to dealer Thursday idles rough at times started shaking like crazy like running on 3 cylinders engine light flashing had to pull over and restart 9,000 miles.
My 2020 etourque caught on fire sitting at stop light!!!! I smelled something warm eventually leading to what smelled like hair burning, was the carpet in rear of cab. I immediately pulled off rd and jumped out & looked back of cab and was the 48v battery which got so hot it ignited carpet and burned the whole back of cab ! So pissed but glad it happened even did and that I was around truck at time because the damage coulda been way worse if not leading someone getting hurt or killed
This makes me nervous because I've smelled a hot electrical smell a few times and I couldn't figure out what it was. I guess I'll do a bit of research to see if there's any preventative actions I can take.
Nice bro I have the same truck. Bighorn Ram 1500 V8 with no e-torque. They tried to sell me the e-torque hard but as I had problems with my last hybrid it was a no. Furthermore when I did first get it for the first three months when I floored it on the high my engine would stall and rpms would get stuck around 3K
My 2022 ram 1500 has this problem, took it to the dealership, they updated the software said it was fixed…nope. Did it again and my truck is sitting up there right now until they can figure it out.
Same here (7800 miles). Flashing every light possible on the dash. Now it's dead and after a $375 tow to the dealer it's been sitting there three days with no updates.
Does the truck throw an error code when it happens? I have a 2021 with Etorque and at about 10k miles it kept throwing error code and the battery gauge would drop to zero and run rough. Dealer had never seen it before. They replaced a computer controller on the Etorque system, $3,500 part, under warranty. It’s been perfect since.
Is this problem associated with trucks that have the Hemi engine only ? I have a 2021 Ram with the E Torque but it has a 3.6 liter engine ( six cylinder engine) and have never experienced this problem.
I believe this decision Ram has made to only offer the Hemi as a hybrid is going to lose them some business. I myself would gravitate to a GM 5.3 or 6.2 or an F150 with 5.0. I don't want anything to do with a hybrid.
I just got my 2024 Limited and so far so good. Ask your service tech about the recall next time you’re in having work done. Worry never solved one problem. Enjoy your truck and deactivate the start/stop with the dash button. I’m happy with my e-torque and RUclips can cause a lot of anxiety with products. It’s good information to know and provides details on what to do.
I’ll have 2021 ram rebel same thing I’ll was turning left at stoplights, all of the sudden stop the engine,, I’ll take it to dealer but they can’t find the problem,, so far it’s run normal,, 🤕 but it’s scary
I will say this scares me. Im 31 and got a 2023 etourqe rebel which is my dream truck. I want it to last to 250,000 miles easily. Dealer said they worked out these issues but it doesn’t seem like it…
I was going to buy a Ram 5.7 but they only had it in e-torque. I passed on this engine and will stick with Ford. I don't want anything hybrid or Battery assistance.
This is how I feel, torn between a 2023 rebel and a 2023 Ford tremor or platinum with the 5.0 but as soon I found out about the etorque it did steer me away dramatically now I’m leaning Ford
@@silverforever15I have a 2023 etourqe and iv had zero issues with it. Sure things break and malfunction. Ford has its problems too. Kinda nice having the extra 100+ pounds of tourqe. Also I get 40 mpg when I’m going 45 miles per hour. The etourqe helps in eco mode.
First time Ive heardcabout this recall. Guess the software fix makes the fuel mix at idle less rich. Seems like easy fix. Still glad my 19 doesnt have this.
I bought a Ram Rebel last fall. Every dealer told me how great the etorque would be. No way I was touching that technology. Finally found a basic hemi 2 states away and bought it. So glad I didn’t buy the etorque.
Yeah I wouldn’t want one with it. It also doesn’t really get you better mpg unless all your driving is stop and go in city. Which will be negated once etorque breaks and has to be replaced.

Droveine pretty hard and put her away wet. Never had an issue. It was recalled though. Took it in and had the flash done. Still no issues.

I took mine today after the third stall and the dealer refused to re flash the transmission, saying my vehicle didn’t qualify
The way i found out i had a recall was through the Ram app. I got mine fixed and it took no longer than 30 minutes.
Help fuel mileage?
I just bought a new one with that etorque 2023.

Yeah,it's working now, but what about 20 years down the road? My current truck is an 01 and I bought it new.
So when they stall do they stay back up or just crank until the recall is repaired
I have a brand new 2023........now I can't get this out of my mind every time I get into my truck. I have no idea if it's still an issue in 2023.
You can deactivate the “start/stop” feature. The system will still help with torque but won’t turn your truck off at long stops.
