The thing I really love about OoT Ganon is the way the game never gives you a good look at him. There's something uniquely scary about being assaulted by this giant, ambiguous silhouette with a pair of bright eyes poking out.
Too bad the 3DS remake of Oot ruined the final battle by making the entire arena bright as hell. That blunder alone makes Oot the superior version for me.

I'll have to agree with OoT-Ganon as my personal best! Not seeing him for the entire game and then being treated to this monstrosity was a very memorable childhood-experience - Link's shocked face is 100% understandable. :D
Razor Blade 247 Same. Although OoT Ganondorf had a strong first half (you know, where he’s actually cunning. Loved this video, but personally i probably would have gone with the oracle design. It manages to stay true to the original design while also being both threatening and visually appealing. Sure, ocarina was probably his most impactful appearance, and maybe his best moment, but i feel like the hardcore "demon of pure evil" look doesn't capture all the elements of Ganon so much as it makes for an incredible final boss. also, if you're looking for more characters to do, i would suggest mega man (the classic one, not every mega man ever. classic MM has more than enough designs)
The best design for Ganon is definitely OOT but I think my favorite is in a Link Between Worlds specifically the artwork for Ganon. It takes the brute force of the Oracle games and the demonic nature of OOT and mixes them very well in my eyes.
I'm really fond of the early blue pig design for Ganon, the Oracle one in particular. I really like the cape and the trident is just such a unique weapon that you don't see touched on in video games that much, especially not one that spawns energy blasts and can be thrown like a boomerang. That being said the OoT Demon King design is just too good to ignore, so I guess those two are tied for the best in my eyes.
@@ArtistMarkFlynn I definitely agree! It would be really intimidating in 3D. Who knows, maybe we'll see it in BotW2. I can't wait to see what they do with Ganon/Ganondorf in general there.
I think i rather prefer the design from Oracle of ages/seasons I don't dislike the concept of Ganon as a beast, but that only works if it has Ganondorf as a counterpart. Ganon by itself was somewhat known as a leader of forces of evil on titles previous to Ocarina. At the very least we could say he was a rational being. After that, the games always try to separate Ganon into a beast and a human to reflect different sides of the character. Personally, i like Ganondorf, but i also like the idea of this demon pig overlord with powerful strength, magic but also cunning to lead an army. Maybe because i find more appealing to fight that than a mindless beast. Dunnow. *Shrugs* Anyway, great video as always! :)
That grey character at 7:02 is Lort, not Ganon. Ganon looks like a demon in this game, and can be seen at the end of this video. ruclips.net/video/xlWLj8yq5OE/видео.html
"Undeniably Nintendo's most threatening villain" Idk, Andross from Starfox is pretty sinister ruining entire ecosystems and mutating life for his personal gain.
To be fair, rather than the one pictured in the video (which is from the Barcode Battler), Ganon's official art from A Link to the Past is the following: gamepedia.cursecdn.com/zelda_gamepedia_en/9/97/ALttP_Ganon_Artwork.png?version=c3e966428c3f64be4917582e1a893531 Not all that different, but certainly more intimidating. Doesn't make a huge difference, but I wanted to point it out for those unaware. Ocarina of Time Ganon is my favorite as well, both subjectively due to Ocarina of Time being my most fondly-remembered Zelda game and objectively, putting any and all personal bias aside.
You forgot one! Animal Crossing: New Leaf added special villagers you could get from scanning amiibos and scanning the Ganondorf amiibo would let the beast himself move to your town! He's a blue pig with the red "helmet", as you called it, cranky type personality. In his house he has a giant treasure chest.
You forgot to include the design Ganon had in "Captain N: The Game Master". As bland as the '80s cartoon design of Ganon is, I can't help but wonder if the developers at Nintendo took some influence from it. I mean, it's the first one to display the tusks and spiked helmet that later designs would also feature.
@@ArtistMarkFlynn It's kinda the same basic design, but the added detail and shading makes the character look more intimidating than he did in the original show. I think it might've been the same animation studio that did the "Real Ghostbusters" cartoon, which might explain his more grotesque appearance in that episode.
You nailed it. That is the best design though BotW 2 may give us a better one. Nintendo seems to be kind of retconning Ganon from BotW as merely a phantom. So the real monster hasn't been revealed yet.
One important thing to note is how Twilight Princess’s Gannon is supposed to be a foil to link’s own beast form in the game. It’s why he’s feral, and it’s why you take him down in wolf form. It’s still far from my favorite, (Ocarina, obviously) but it’s still a better Gannon for twilight princess than any other Gannon design would have been.
There's a fire boss in the game that you saw for a little bit in the reveal trailer for the game. It had me HYPED because for some reason I thought they'd remade the Ocarina of time ending to open the game. I was so dissapointed when that didn't happen lol. But yeah it's a good design and very appropriate, just not my fave.
One of the interesting thing with the Calamity is that you aren't fighting Ganon in the same way as in the other games. The Calamity isn't his physical body. Ganon was sealed (still is) in the depths underneath Hyrule Castle. The Calamity is a manifestation of his will. In the beginning of BotW, it was stated that Ganon has given up on reincarnation and became Calamity Ganon. It's not entirely accurate. He didn't give up because he kept losing. He was unable to reincarnate due to the fact he was sealed, kept in a perpetual state between life and death as shown in BotW 2 trailer. Calamity Ganon was his plan B. I think that BotW 2 Ganon has the potential to be the Best Ganon.
Lmao yeah sorry. Decided it would be best to hang off on ganondorf until there's more botw2 stuff as I think he'll crop up... Him and zelda haven't been forgotten just delayed for now!
Theres another, uncolored design of Ganon. Its in a height comparison chart for a link to the past. I'm a little disappointed you didn't bring it up because it does the idea justice, i love that art much better Also tp ganon has sleeves. Its weird.
In my opinion the best is 4 swords adventures gonon, I don't know, something about the 3d eras designs for ganon never quite did it for me, OoT, TP, HW, and BotW all had really good designs, but none of them were ever quite Ganon to me, I'd like to see a game where either Ganondorf's transformation into Ganon causes Ganon to have a 3d version of his classic 2d design, or take Ganondorf out of the picture altogether and have it just be Classic Ganon from the start, BotW did have the chucking Ganondorf half of it, but it was far from Classic Ganon in design, it's certainly not bad, in fact it's probably my favorite of the 3d games, but it's still not quite Ganon to me
I can’t remember if I’ve suggested this before, but would you consider doing a video on Pac-Man’s designs? There’s a lot of interesting stuff about Pac-Man that nobody’s really talking about.
The Artist Mark Flynn That’s good to hear! There’s already enough material to work with for Pac-Man’s designs by Namco, but when you take into consideration the 80s US designs, before they really had any style guide and just let artists go nuts making whatever design they can off of a yellow ball, that opens up a LOT of discussion. I think a video on that would be a great way to celebrate Pac’s 40th anniversary in 2020.
Ganon is acually not reincarnating. Most of the time he just gets sealed away but its most of the time the same guy. Its always Ganandorf who simpley never revertet bag to his Gerudo Bodey. The only times he reincarnatet was in the Child Timline after Twilight Princess. The Ganon we see in the Oracle Games is a butched resurection from Link to the past. And its the same Ganon that gets resurectet in Link Between Worlds. And I can only assume that somhow Ganon was able to stay alife after the fused Ganon was defeatet because he returned in the first Zelda Game. The only confirmed reincarnatet Ganon is in 4 Swords Advanture. And...MAYBE Calamaty Ganon? Thats...harder to say if thats a Reincarnation ore still the same guy from Ocarina.

Maybe because i find more appealing to fight that than a mindless beast. Dunnow. *Shrugs*
Anyway, great video as always! :)
Thank you Alan! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Cheers for watching 😊
You should do BOWSER!!! He's a real doozy in terms of character design evolution
Would love to do him at some point for sure
Points for use of the word "Janky"
*takes a bow*
You need to do a video about Ganondorf too, not just Ganon.
Did you vote in the poll? I definitely will down the line!
That grey character at 7:02 is Lort, not Ganon. Ganon looks like a demon in this game, and can be seen at the end of this video.

Yeah someone else pointed this one out. My bad! I still maintain that ganon looks like malnourished diablo though.
0:50 lmaoo
"Undeniably Nintendo's most threatening villain"
Idk, Andross from Starfox is pretty sinister ruining entire ecosystems and mutating life for his personal gain.
I think the OOT ganon is the best
My personal favorite design is stuck between Oot’s and ALttP’s (sprite version tho)
To be fair, rather than the one pictured in the video (which is from the Barcode Battler), Ganon's official art from A Link to the Past is the following:
gamepedia.cursecdn.com/zelda_gamepedia_en/9/97/ALttP_Ganon_Artwork.png?version=c3e966428c3f64be4917582e1a893531
Not all that different, but certainly more intimidating. Doesn't make a huge difference, but I wanted to point it out for those unaware.
Ocarina of Time Ganon is my favorite as well, both subjectively due to Ocarina of Time being my most fondly-remembered Zelda game and objectively, putting any and all personal bias aside.
I'm certain that is fan art dude
You forgot one! Animal Crossing: New Leaf added special villagers you could get from scanning amiibos and scanning the Ganondorf amiibo would let the beast himself move to your town! He's a blue pig with the red "helmet", as you called it, cranky type personality. In his house he has a giant treasure chest.
This is actually amazing and I had no idea!
@@ArtistMarkFlynn Did you look him up? How do you like the design?
@@BJGvideos not yet but looking forward to doing so later!
@@ArtistMarkFlynn How about now?
You forgot to include the design Ganon had in "Captain N: The Game Master".
As bland as the '80s cartoon design of Ganon is, I can't help but wonder if the developers at Nintendo took some influence from it. I mean, it's the first one to display the tusks and spiked helmet that later designs would also feature.
Isn't that the same as the one from the zelda TV show?
@@ArtistMarkFlynn It's kinda the same basic design, but the added detail and shading makes the character look more intimidating than he did in the original show. I think it might've been the same animation studio that did the "Real Ghostbusters" cartoon, which might explain his more grotesque appearance in that episode.
Can we get Ridley next
Kirby is the next episode! But I'd love to do a ridley episode nearer to prime 4
You nailed it. That is the best design though BotW 2 may give us a better one. Nintendo seems to be kind of retconning Ganon from BotW as merely a phantom. So the real monster hasn't been revealed yet.
Can't wait to see what form he takes in 2 assuming that is him! Ganondorf too! Thanks for watching!
Nice video as always, though what is your thoughts on the Ganon design from BS Zelda, which is pretty much a remake of the original Zelda.
Damn! Wish I hadn't forgot that one as its so different to the others!
Can you please make a Bowser video of best Bowser designs 🙏
I like the Ocarina of Time Ganon design the best followed by the Calamity Ganon. (The Boss.)
Make one about Fox McCloud!!
I think you should do a Crash Bandicoot one (after the ganondorf one of course)
Crash is definitely happening soon. Hopefully before the end of the year.
Ok
I can’t believe we didn’t get the ganondorf video.
Lmao yeah sorry. Decided it would be best to hang off on ganondorf until there's more botw2 stuff as I think he'll crop up... Him and zelda haven't been forgotten just delayed for now!
@@ArtistMarkFlynn WoW… your really attentive to your fans… I really respect that. It truly shows that you actually care.
Theres another, uncolored design of Ganon. Its in a height comparison chart for a link to the past. I'm a little disappointed you didn't bring it up because it does the idea justice, i love that art much better
Also tp ganon has sleeves. Its weird.
Checked out the height comparison chart after I read this. Very cool! Wish I'd known about it when making this video!
Best Ridley design?
Definitely one I want to do nearer to Metroid Prime 4 for sure
And now there is a new Ganon design in Age of Calamity.
Personally I find the original much cooler
Evil
In my opinion the best is 4 swords adventures gonon, I don't know, something about the 3d eras designs for ganon never quite did it for me, OoT, TP, HW, and BotW all had really good designs, but none of them were ever quite Ganon to me, I'd like to see a game where either Ganondorf's transformation into Ganon causes Ganon to have a 3d version of his classic 2d design, or take Ganondorf out of the picture altogether and have it just be Classic Ganon from the start, BotW did have the chucking Ganondorf half of it, but it was far from Classic Ganon in design, it's certainly not bad, in fact it's probably my favorite of the 3d games, but it's still not quite Ganon to me
Gammondorf!
the imprisoned was just ganon to demise's ganondorf
Can you please do Bowser Koopa?
Will do at some point definitely!
@@ArtistMarkFlynn Thank You
@@switchlord7436 thank you for watching!
@@ArtistMarkFlynn Your welcome, don't forget King Koopa and Bowsette as jokes?
After the Ganondorf video, can you do Ridley next?
Too soon for ridley unfortunately but will definitely do that episode some day. I'm thinking maybe around the time or after prime 4 comes out!
PS Kirby is next
My favorite desgin is calamity ganon in his incomplete form
I can’t remember if I’ve suggested this before, but would you consider doing a video on Pac-Man’s designs? There’s a lot of interesting stuff about Pac-Man that nobody’s really talking about.
Yes! It's definitely one I want to do and I'm sure it will happen some time!
You should do Ridley next
But sadly totk one doesn’t come with beast ganon form; but something demise
The cdi ganon was ok in terms of voice and memes we gotta give him that
Best ganon design was the shadow on your wall
My favrite Ganon is defently OoT but my favrite Ganandorf would be Wind Waker.
came for the cheese of both cartoon and CD-I Ganon
OOT by far for ganondorf, ganon and link.
Are you going to to Bowser next?
Kirby is next!
The Artist Mark Flynn spyro when...
Oot Ganon is my favourite and anyways will be
2:54 wait so Ozzy Osbourne would return?!
All abooooooard
how about best design for ridley
